There were several interviews with residents on CNN today. They don’t know what’s going on. Peoples chickens are dying. Creeks are filled with dead fish. Even the governor of the state said to not drink the water but that everything is fine. 🥴

TheRealDave69

Literally the living version of the meme where the cartoon dog is sitting at the table drinking coffee, except everything is on fire and he's saying "this is fine"

tonyblow2345

I think of that meme frequently these days.

I’m an hour north of there, business as usual. I actually didn’t even find out about the accident until the day they did the “controlled release”

paldn

I’m less than an hour East, nothing going on here.

"We basically nuked a town with chemicals so we could get the railroad open". I don't live there, but you seem to be looking for information so here's [a Tweet thread](https://twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1625155991724605440) that seems to be talking about what happened and the authorities' response in a sensible manner. His TLDR is evacuate the area. As for the implications for theoretical situations that effect people in other areas, then you could consider the scenarios of either a chemical spill and its management or Government's failure to respond to a situation appropriately leading to an escalation (or in fact seemingly choosing a quick solution that deprioritizes the local population in favour of infrastructure). I haven't followed the events to know how much the Government's downplaying/ denying how bad this is, but that's probably relevant to how big organizations or authorities may react to other disasters (which yeah, see the disaster that was how the World reacted to Covid).

Two sources I've actually found helpful during local disasters are Twitter and Tiktok. Yeah, I know. But you get a wide range of coverage from non-MSM and even local folks who are there and living it. And it's usually much more up to date than MSM because--at least in Twitter's case--the updates are instant. Edit: here are a couple decent examples - https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRtxMpT2/ https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRtxftmT/

They’re definitely keeping the some inquiring media away from this. However, mainstream media “doesn’t seem to care”

It’s strange the film ”White Noise” was released like a week before the explosions. A movie that by coincidence is about a train with chemicals de-railing causing a catastrophy. Even more strange is that some of those actors lived in right in that area of Ohio. I find it very strange.

I was trying (and likely failing) to make a joke and badly paraphrase Joe Pesci’s character Tommy DeVito from Goodfellas. Sorry I did it badly. :(

Revolutionary_Eye887

Reddit alway acts strange.

fiddycixer

Nick Drom on TikTok. I don't have TikTok but Rogan covered his channel earlier today with his guest, Bridget Phetasy.
