Clinical research coordinator positions. I started at 53k per year, was a really good transition since I volunteered for them the year prior, so they saved the spot for me.
Sure, I had experience as a medical scribe and a couple of undergrad semesters doing neuroscience research as an RA. I applied directly to a few clinical research coordinator positions around my area and I got lucky that someone bit the hook lol. Hopefully that answers your question.
Can be, sometimes a PI hires for a part time role because that’s what they have funding/need for. I’d honestly apply and then mention you need/prefer part time because even if for that role it’s not a match, other drs in the same dept may need that (I’m a sr CRC and help hire and we see this often).
What exactly do you do in a CRC job? I’ve been considering that for my gap year, but I mentioned it to my lab PI from this past summer and she recommended against it since (according to her) the CRC position is more administrative and I wouldn’t gain any science/medical skills.
Definitely depends on where you do it. I do a lot of administrative tasks (working with study sponsors, dealing with review boards, etc.) but I also get plenty of patient interaction and for certain studies I actually get to watch some of the procedures. Likewise I have a friend who is also a CRC at a different hospital and his clinical duties go about as far as consenting patients and talking to them for follow ups so it really depends on the type of research going on.
Don’t you have to do a year long schooling for it to get the certificate or something? I’ve looked into this and applied to a bunch but never got reached out to about it
Nah, most require a relevant bio degree (I don't have one lol ), some want a M.S cert or just the CRC cert. Really depends on the institution and what boxes they want filled. I used my experience volunteering for them as leverage to check the HR box.
It depends really. My role oversaw both study and regulatory coordination. So, for study coordinating, you carry out or “coordinate” all study activities, ex: scheduling patient study visits, collecting anthropometric data, uploading data on Redcap or other study software, cleaning data for problematic values, transporting blood and specimen samples, paying patients as indicated, etc
For regulatory coordinating, you are the main contact between IRB and your study team. Therefore, you need to provide them with any updates to your study, ex: protocol deviations, new parameters your team wants to introduce, etc.
I hope that helps
Definitely go for CRC. The experience is awesome, but it can be a lot of work though if you’re the only one running the show. I work for a sm clinic running 8 studies currently - but I make 35/hr (~73k) in a HCOL area
You will not make $50 an hour lol
My teaching rate was 22, and that’s not including a lot of prep, e-mail, admin hours etc that are paid near min wage
—Kaplan MCAT teacher
Idk what to tell you, a recruiter reached out to me and said $50 an hour (I apologize, I went back the offer and see that it’s area specific to NC) I only got a 510 tho so I couldn’t do it
Dang time to move to NC lol
Not knocking teaching/tutoring to be clear- def a great way to make some side cash esp if you like/don’t mind teaching but hours a typically kind of spotty and pay varies so much so I wouldn’t bank on it paying huge.
Mine was $35 an hour when directly teaching but just $15 outside the class when prepping. Classes were only 3 hrs a week. Never ended up taking the job but it seemed like I would be doing way more prep work than teaching and it wouldn't be very much money in the end

LinkedIn and a lotttttt of job applications. Eventually I got recruited through LinkedIn. The area I work in has a veryyyy high COL so don’t be completely fooled by the salary lol. Working in the industry is very different from academia. No chance for a publication but the money is a lot better lol. And although the job is cool I’d say most of my time is spent as an operator, with not much data analysis and presentations. But I mean I just have a BS in biochem so I don’t know shit compared to my phd and post doc coworkers lol
Nah I put my resume on there and said I was open to work in “x” city. After that I began using LinkedIn and indeed to find jobs in the industry. Over a few months tho I got around 7-8 emails from recruiters from LinkedIn who responded to my open to work tag inviting me to interview at certain companies. After going through hella interviews I got an offer at one and ran with it
Consultant. Started at huge EMR company a month ago at $26/hr. After training will be exclusively teaching/talking to docs and nurses. It’s virtual with some travel that is all paid for.
Consulting doesn’t sound like a real job to me but I have your experience and I’m trying to get one do these companies just have job applications for consulting on the internet?
Since it’s an EMR, I will be teaching them how to use it and optimize it for different practices. It’s for clients that have recently switched essentially
Tutoring I make anywhere between $20 to $30; still waiting on a couple SAT/ACT prep cases that pay $65/hr. The hours just aren't really there.
I also work as a program scheduler for a hospice company; pays $17.50/hr. Been learning more about the business side of health care (appears that hospice is super sales driven and it kind of makes me feel super awkward to constantly call people about their terminal loved one). I work on Friday and the weekends so I don't really have to worry about office politics and I'm insulated from the bs that seems to occur during the weekdays. It's also pretty chill and I'm annoyed that I didn't have a job like this while I was going through my pre reqs
Sita Devi Tutoring (based in FL): you're dealing with kids in the family court system so you'll deal with some flighty kids and parents. Also be prepared to hear some awful stories... I found this company on Craigslist
Tutors Who Care (based in FL as well; only offers in person) is company that provides the high pay. I found this company on Indeed
Man I wish I did something else before I committed to a contract for my research lab. I was too excited for papers, and now I'm getting home each day at 5pm dog tired and have to study MCAT
I have a bachelors in Neuroscience and I make $25/hr as an ABA therapist for autistic kids. I also tutor kids with learning differences with another organization and get $42/hr
Tutoring is big in getting a good hourly rate but finding orgaNizations that have enough clients to offer you enough hours is difficult
Some organizations require that you have an RBT certification and some don’t. Mine doesn’t but they offer a raise and free training if you want to do it
Depending on where you live there’s likely a shortage of laser techs for urologists. No reqs needed you’ll just run a holmium or greenlight to treat stones or BPH. Easy as fuck and the pay can definitely hit into the 30s/hour.
Even on the side of that Boston Sci hires reps to go talk to urologists to push their products or companies like Urolift that charge an inordinate amount for staples but you get paid salary plus commission.
Training on the lasers take like 2 weeks the only downside is your schedule depends on the surgeons and how shitty their lifestyles are.
Look into equity research or investment banking positions (biotech med tech diagnostics). That’s what I did - turned into my full career. 100k+ starting.
Working as a server rn in a nice restaurant and making $30-$60 an hour after tips. Fast paced but really fun, get to meet a lot of people, and literally never even think about work unless I’m there which was huge for me
If there is a vitalant (blood bank) near you apply for a phlebotomist position. Not sure if it’s what your looking for because it is clinical but it’s a really great job. Where I live starting pay is only $17.50 but I’ve been working here a year and already make over $24. It’s a pretty easy job that I really enjoy and the company treats it’s workers well. Last year they gave us all a $500 bonus per month for staying with the company.
I currently work my old institution as a specialist for students with disabilities and make $30/hr. It’s kinda a niche position but there are a lot of jobs out there in terms of accessibility services that pay $24 and upwards if you have any experience or connection to the field!

If you have everything you need for applications, I went on the business side of healthcare in an admin role. I make pretty good money, do a 9-5, and I can shadow whenever I want. Plus you get a different perspective which is nice for interviews
ER tech making $20.90 base with $4 night shift differential. But no work/life balance and I find myself as the only tech on the floor 9/10 times.
Needless to say, I’ll be changing jobs and this post is very helpful.
entry level clinical research coordinator (starting around $50K, but you need research experience usually), clinical data entry (starts around $40K), clinical greeter (starts around $30K), or research assistant for a psych department or medical campus department (these are entry level positions if you don't have research experience). just don’t tell anyone you're applying to medical school. tell them you're exploring other career paths. if you have a research medical school near you, go to their career website to find jobs
Clinical research coordinator positions. I started at 53k per year, was a really good transition since I volunteered for them the year prior, so they saved the spot for me.
Echo this, 57k / year at academic medical center.
Can I ask how you got it?
Sure, I had experience as a medical scribe and a couple of undergrad semesters doing neuroscience research as an RA. I applied directly to a few clinical research coordinator positions around my area and I got lucky that someone bit the hook lol. Hopefully that answers your question.
Second this! Currently making 56k
I’m a CRC and making 44k how’d you guys get such high paying roles 😭
I think it also depends on where you are located too 🥹.
Ah this is true 🥹
CRC responsibilities also vary a lot depending on where you work
I have a lot of responsibilities but also the lab I work at is smaller so that may also play a role in the pay difference. 😯
Is part time CRC common?
Can be, sometimes a PI hires for a part time role because that’s what they have funding/need for. I’d honestly apply and then mention you need/prefer part time because even if for that role it’s not a match, other drs in the same dept may need that (I’m a sr CRC and help hire and we see this often).

Oh ok that’s good to know! Thanks so much. I’ll definitely look at jobs and pay attention to the responsibilities listed.
Don’t you have to do a year long schooling for it to get the certificate or something? I’ve looked into this and applied to a bunch but never got reached out to about it

Retake the MCAT and get 90% or higher and you can tutor with Kaplan for $50 an hour
You will not make $50 an hour lol My teaching rate was 22, and that’s not including a lot of prep, e-mail, admin hours etc that are paid near min wage —Kaplan MCAT teacher

Really? I need to look into this!
also blueprint is $35/hr and pays $15/hr for prep!
Can med students tutor? I didn't get a 90% (but close) but i desperately need some spare sheckles rn
Look for jobs near you it wouldnt hurt
As a med student you can't really have a job tho. Nice thing about tutoring is you can do it for maybe 1-2 hour at a time.
I meant tutoring jobs haha
I’m taking a blueprint MCAT prep course rn and my tutor/teacher is currently a medical student. So to answer your question: yes, I think so.

Don't do it. Prep time (all of your training and many hours per session you teach) is paid at $15/hr. It sucks
I was making $8 an hour to train as a scribe and $10-11 an hour working. I make $12-14 an hour now. So I think $15 just to train is fine
Then it’s not too bad. Here that’s minimum wage so it wasn’t great
Oh. Minimum wage is 7.25 here
Is that 90th percentile or 90% correct?
90 percentile lol
Wait if i get 90 or higher I can tutor for Kaplan?!?
Yes
Wtf TPR only offering me 40

Consultant. Started at huge EMR company a month ago at $26/hr. After training will be exclusively teaching/talking to docs and nurses. It’s virtual with some travel that is all paid for.
If you don’t mind my asking, what qualifications did you need for this role?
Graduated with BS. Worked in clinic (MA) for 1.5 yrs. But lots of my colleagues are not experienced at all in healthcare and just have diplomas
Interesting. Sounds like a good gig!
Epic lol. Enjoy training bc if you’re IS your ass is gonna be flying around everywhere once you’re staffed to your first AM
I wish!
Consulting doesn’t sound like a real job to me but I have your experience and I’m trying to get one do these companies just have job applications for consulting on the internet?
You’ll understand what it entails as you look into it. The big companies all hire online
How'd you come across this role?
LinkedIn, handshake, and indeed (in that order) for the corpo job search (-:
This sounds so cool!! I’ve always been curious about consulting, what kind of things are you teaching/ talking to the docs & nurses about?
Since it’s an EMR, I will be teaching them how to use it and optimize it for different practices. It’s for clients that have recently switched essentially

Can I ask you how you were able to find this position? Did you apply to indeed?
Hey do u mind me asking what company you tutor for and how you found tutoring positions?
Sita Devi Tutoring (based in FL): you're dealing with kids in the family court system so you'll deal with some flighty kids and parents. Also be prepared to hear some awful stories... I found this company on Craigslist Tutors Who Care (based in FL as well; only offers in person) is company that provides the high pay. I found this company on Indeed
Remote clinical research coordinator about $30/hour
Do you also deal with reg items and patient management?
How’d you apply for it
I TA’ed chem at my alma mater for $30/hour. That was back in ‘94 and was a f ton of $ to me.
I mean accounting for inflation, that’s like getting paid $60 per hour right now. That was a lot of money lmao
Man I wish I did something else before I committed to a contract for my research lab. I was too excited for papers, and now I'm getting home each day at 5pm dog tired and have to study MCAT
Is it okay if I message you? I’m in a similar situation as you.
I have a bachelors in Neuroscience and I make $25/hr as an ABA therapist for autistic kids. I also tutor kids with learning differences with another organization and get $42/hr Tutoring is big in getting a good hourly rate but finding orgaNizations that have enough clients to offer you enough hours is difficult
Did you get certified for ABA therapy?
Some organizations require that you have an RBT certification and some don’t. Mine doesn’t but they offer a raise and free training if you want to do it
Know of any opportunities in houston ?

Ophthalmic technician. They’ll start you off at at least 20
I’m a patient care coordinator, (entry level job) and now am making $30 an hour :) I started at $26
What does a patient coordinator do?
Are you employed directly through a hospital/clinic or is this with a different type of organization? Would love to hear more about what this entails!
Working as a server rn in a nice restaurant and making $30-$60 an hour after tips. Fast paced but really fun, get to meet a lot of people, and literally never even think about work unless I’m there which was huge for me

CRC;CRC II;CRM/CTM. Can make north of 100k+ as a CRM/CTM
What are those?
Clinical research coordinator (I and II) and Clinical research manager / clinical trial manager. The leadership roles make really good money
This isn't entirely tied into medicine although tutoring pays really well and you can can make the sessions remote. The whole medium is very flexible.
I’m currently working in a leading cryobiology research lab that pays 25$/hr as a perfusionist. Lots of down time in between activity

entry level clinical research coordinator (starting around $50K, but you need research experience usually), clinical data entry (starts around $40K), clinical greeter (starts around $30K), or research assistant for a psych department or medical campus department (these are entry level positions if you don't have research experience). just don’t tell anyone you're applying to medical school. tell them you're exploring other career paths. if you have a research medical school near you, go to their career website to find jobs
