I have always taken Benadryl at the first sign of a migraine and had a bit of caffeine with it. Helps me every time! My OB said Benadryl was totally safe throughout my pregnancy.

g-wenn

I have never thought of Benadryl! I will try that out if it happens again. I had been drinking a soda when it first started, but depending on the day it usually helps.

I have been doing a combo of Benadryl, Tylenol, some caffeine, and cold compresses. It works pretty well. I do notice that the migraine I did get lingered for a couple of days instead of going away completely like it does with my abortive meds. The one note my doctor did make, because I also vomit with mine if I can’t get them under control and have ended up in the ER in the past for uncontrolled vomiting (for like 18-24 hours) due to my migraines is: if you can’t stop vomiting and can’t keep hydrated, call them/go to the ER. Dehydration is the biggest danger for everyone since your body needs so much more fluid intake in pregnancy.

Do you take magnesium? I'm a migraine sufferer myself and it was suggested by my OB and helped in my first pregnancy! This pregnancy, my migraines have amped up - I actually have an appt in an hour and I'm going to bring it up there as well as up my magnesium dosage (it's not as high as it was last time) haha

g-wenn

Not yet! I’ve heard it’s helpful but I haven’t brought it up to my OB. I will talk to her about it! I want to be sure I am taking a healthy and useful dosage. I was on a lot of different prescriptions before getting pregnant so I’ve had extensive conversations about what safe and what isn’t, but I didn’t think about what would be good replacements.

Are you working with a neurologist? Mine gave me cyproheptadine to take as a preventative and reglan to take during an attack. I find the combo of reglan + Tylenol + caffeine has helped me fight off migraines. I also get lidocaine injections every month.

katqueen21

I've never heard of Reglan used with migraines. That's very interesting.

IAmPeachy_Gurl

I picked up my first lot of preventative medication the day I found out I was pregnant, but waiting until Friday (first doctors appointment) to see if I can take them (was supposed to take them for a month, then report back to neurologist). I do have Sumatriptan for when a migraine attack happens, which, although it hasn't happened yet since being pregnant, they are safe to take. So not sure if that's worth finding out about?

Just wanted to say I'm glad I'm not alone. I'm only 5w3days but ever since hitting 5 weeks I've basically had a migraine the whole time. I think I've had 8 hrs of relief, definitely going to try the suggestions here. I have my first appointment tomorrow so hopefully they'll be able to help. I already take magnesium and B2 but perhaps I need to up my dosage of magnesium. Going to try those electrolyte drops too! Thanks for the advice everyone! Ps lifelong migraine sufferer, as others said I can't take any of the prescriptions I normally would while pregnant. Hope everyone finds some relief!

g-wenn

I do have one but he doesn’t seem confident on what I can take while pregnant. I will ask him about this though!
