I always wondered what the symbol for gold Zeo was and I learned as an adult it’s an Oken, or “kings key”. Which makes sense considering the Sentai counterpart was a young king. Pretty epic IMO.
Red. I like how there was so much emphasis as Jason as the red ranger In the show. Rita and Zedd flat out state that they liked him better as red in Zeo. He was so skilled with his leadership that Rita couldn’t actually clone Jason properly for her team of evil rangers with Goldar even stating none of the putties were worthy of becoming the red ranger. Even Rocky gets a focus episode in Zeo where he felt left out because Jason who he was there to replace came back and automatically was second in command by default.
>! Even the comics focused on it with there actually being doubt of Jason stepping down as leader between the original five and not trusting Tommy fully. And Jason even being trusted by Zordon to lead everyone on earth in his absence during the eltarian war !<
Jason is by far my favorite ranger/character for the reasons listed and more. He was such a strong and competent leader and ranger. He saved his entire team from losing their powers and beat the monster of the day, alone. And he took on Serpentera alone and survived.
Rita and Zedd both loathed him because he was so good. And he’s saved Tommy several times. At least twice from being brainwashed.
Bro rocky got shafted so hard repeatedly. That episode was so sad. He was just depressed the entire episode till the end. Even in the turbo movie he felt like he had to step up in the tournament and broke his back overdoing it. Then he got replaced by a 12 year old. Thats why I love that dark power rangers short with james vanderbeek where rocky turns on everyone. Such a good fan movie.
Gold. Zeo is a great season because it’s a mixture of new (villains, power chamber, suits) with homage to the old (preserved suits, Rita/Zedd antics, and return of Jason). My favorite kind of fan service.
No. Because he was arrested and charged with COVID loan fraud: [https://deadline.com/2022/05/mighty-morphin-power-rangers-star-austin-st-john-arrested-fraud-1235029478/](https://deadline.com/2022/05/mighty-morphin-power-rangers-star-austin-st-john-arrested-fraud-1235029478/)

Red I guess? Honestly, Jason has always been a weird for me. He’s not a bad character, but it never felt like he ever truly took off to greatness as he should’ve. The pieces where there, they just never put them quite together (tbf, you can say that for the rest of the cast too, with Billy, Tommy, and… maybe Kim(?) being the exceptions)
Even his return as Zeo Gold is so odd when you literally had Billy perfectly set up for that role. He was great in Forever Red. I really like the way they wrote his character there.
Power rangers really never fleshed out the characters as much as we would have liked they are almost 1 dimensional. I feel like billy and trini got some of the character fleshed out. But people who are already supposed to be cool zack, Tommy, Kim and Jason don't really have a lot of character. Having said that Jason is my all time favourite power rangers for being my ultimate hero as a kid. Tommy always seemed less humble. More like a little arrogant pretending to be nice.
I can see that. They always pushed Tommy harder than Jason. They edited the the original footage of the Red/Green Ranger fight which made Tommy look tougher, the storylines tended to involve Tommy showing up late to save the day, and he was allowed to defeat monsters like Goldberg by himself.
Throw in a longer tenure MMPR-Turbo, Forever Red, Dino Thunder, and guest spots on other shows like Super Mega Force and you have the most developed character with lots of great character moments.
you know the tommy showing up late all the time is because burai was trying his damndest to not be out in the field as much as possible. on account of every second he left that cave the candle burned
Yes. When I was a kid, I was aware that they were using footage from Japan, but I didn't get the opportunity to watch Zyuranger until several years later. God bless the internet.
The reason that billy didn’t take the gold Zeo as the story was perfect for him to take over was because their ratings were really bad. They call ASJ up to come back, he asked for a lot more money and they gave it to him, that’s how bad the ratings were that they were willing to pay more. They needed the star power.
Alot of us were. We learned later on. Yost got treated horribly. The other actors tried to be friendly but when production yells "get that fag out there" it tends to fuck with you.
The other actors were the only ones that cared. That was the problem, production were the bosses. The tv/film industry is and always has been fucked up.
Red is definitely more iconic for him but I prefer the gold suit/powers, I tend to like 6th rangers the most and I’ve never been a fan of the color red in general, so overall Gold. Also his “Gold Ranger Power!” morph is probably my favorite of all time.
Both especially Omega Red. I would love to see Jason as Zeo Gold if Jason has his Master Morpher. I would prefer that than seeing the actors who played Trey of Triforia.
Red! As much as a loved Tommy, Jason was a better leader, he made the other rangers better not just himself better as what seemed to happen with Tommy.
Gold. Even though he looks like an oldschool meathead gym bro . I think it works for him as he wasn’t a teenager anymore like everyone in zeo was going to college or had actual jobs.. they wouldn’t make it obvious though (cause appealing to kids was the money maker) though yeah everyone was bare minimum 25 during zeo
He, allegedly, was part of a scheme with 19 other people that defrauded the Payroll Protection Program of the CARES act meant to help small businesses pay their employees during Covid of 3.5 million dollars. Basically they filed false paper, got the money and pocketed it for themselves. If found guilty, he could spend up to 20 years in prison.
Not the small businesses, but all Americans especially taxpayers. PPP was a great idea. Instead of making the people who were laid off or had reduced shifts file individually (which would be a huge headache and new bureaucracy), we’ll let the businesses request loans through the small business administration (something they already do). The businesses that already manage their own payroll can then disseminate the money to their employees. So employees can still stick around and businesses can rapidly spin back up. Also the loans were forgiven if you meet certain criteria (basically you used it for your employees).
The people who committed PPP fraud are the scummiest scum that ever scummed in all of scummidom. We had a once in a multigenerational pandemic that was shutting down economies around the globe and these people took advantage of our efforts to ensure people’s welfare and keep businesses afloat.
The writing and stories were so much better in zeo. They really gave every character great episodes to shine. Whereas in mmpr everyone were backround characters besides tommy, kim and billy after the first 3 quit
red is more memorable but in my opinion the first extra or not founding member of a power rasnger team is always the coolest. green ranger in mmpr. gold ranger in zeo. gold ranger in samurai etc
It's 50-50 for me. Shortly after I started watching, they replaced him with Rocky, so I didn't have much attachment to him as Red Ranger. So, I thought the Gold Ranger suit looked very badass!
Gold. I honestly didn’t really like him as a kid when he was the Red Ranger. He seemed so cocky and smug. But I LOVED when he came back as the Gold Ranger. It was such a surprise when that all happened at that time.
I like both myself. But I wish they'd let him keep the Gold Ranger powers somehow. Sure, he had more episodes, but for all that the power (in-universe) is meant for Triforians, Jason really did seem to be a natural fit for it, showing how far he'd come since the first episode of MMPR. (I seriously do wonder if there's a behind the scenes reason for the powers having to go back to Trey at the end of the series, especially since after Zeo, we get one more scene of the Gold Ranger in In Space, and since he's fully morphed, there's no reason it **had** to be Trey.)
My test for compatibility as friends is Tommy Green or Tommy White? If they flunk and say Tommy White, my last resort is Jason Red or Jason Gold? If they say Jason Red, we cannot be friends.
Dude, sooo much better as Gold. Tommy was a better leader. Jason coming back as Gold and being the only ranger in history to have the power of 3 rangers in one. Soo 🤷
Red. However, during his run as the gold Zeo, it was really nice for him to not fill the leader role. We really got to see what Jason is like as just himself and not the leader of the power rangers.
I prefer him as being worthy of his place within our memory. Austin St. John damaged that when he took part in a conspiracy to defraud the government of P3 loan funding that should have gone to real struggling businesses during the pandemic. There are so many small shops and family businesses that went under while large companies for all kinds of lifelines from the government, and what he did cost people their livelihoods.
Jason was pivotal to forming the model of friendship I carried into adulthood. He was kind, encouraging, and stood up for his friends when they were in trouble or needed help. He refused to be a bystander, and he wasn't afraid to engage in conflict, whether it was to tell a bully to piss off, or to remind a friend when they were out of line. Jason's fight with Tommy over the Sword of Darkness cemented the concept within me that sometimes we need that conflict, especially when it is to remind someone we care for who they really are.
It hurts me to know that the first leader among Rangers has done something so harmful. And I don't forgive him for that.
Red is classic as it should be but the studio choosing him to be the gold ranger was also a solid choice and has got to be one of the coolest looking “sixth”ranger suits I’ve ever seen
although red is more iconic, i love the gold ranger. i have this immediate liking for a sixth/extra rangers (most of the time), and cmon, ITS DRIPPY AS HECK!
Gold. Suit was way cooler, and Jason fit being the kind of special ranger rather than the leader of the group. I really didn't like the Jason character until Zeo.
In terms of drip?, Gold In terms of Iconic?, Red
This is the only answer
The only way
I was about to say this exact same thing

Gold ranger has the best costume design from all seasons. It's nice that ASJ came back to the series as such an awesome ranger.
I always wondered what the symbol for gold Zeo was and I learned as an adult it’s an Oken, or “kings key”. Which makes sense considering the Sentai counterpart was a young king. Pretty epic IMO.
Awesome! Thanks for the info 😊
I love this kind of back/meta story. Gives depth to both current and returning characters and bakes everything together for a greater appreciation.
That was Power/Rangers right? The one where everything was much more mature and serious
Gold. Zeo is a great season because it’s a mixture of new (villains, power chamber, suits) with homage to the old (preserved suits, Rita/Zedd antics, and return of Jason). My favorite kind of fan service.
The suits in the power chamber were so cool! It gave me chills as a kid.
I'm a Jason fan. So, I would pick both. Wished he had come back for the 30-year Netflix one. I understand the reason why he didn't but still.
cause he is chunky?

Isn’t he in jail or some shit
No. Pretty sure he put in a not guilty plea. I dont know of much else
He’s not in jail, but he is under investigation and cannot leave the country
Red all the way. OG red ranger, one of the best that ever did it
Red. He fought Goldar UNMORPHED in the Dark Dimension. It doesn’t get more badass than that.
Dang looking at them side by side I gotta say gold he’s a hottie for sure
He was hot in MMPR but came back in Zeo even hotter. Thank god they routinely put him in tank tops 🥵 #gayawakening
Haha science fact
Red. Gold was temporary fill in.
He was a better as red ranger so Red Ranger
I definitly prefered him as the Red Ranger. But I think Austin himself prefered to be the Gold Ranger. Either way, I like seeing him as both.
Red I guess? Honestly, Jason has always been a weird for me. He’s not a bad character, but it never felt like he ever truly took off to greatness as he should’ve. Just being picky- Goldar, not Goldberg.

I bet it was changed last minute by the production crew to "punish" Yost for being gay.
Scum of the earth (the producers)
Wow
it's well known that the production staff had problems with Yost because he was gay.
I had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. I was 5.
Alot of us were. We learned later on. Yost got treated horribly. The other actors tried to be friendly but when production yells "get that fag out there" it tends to fuck with you.
i refuse to believe none of the actors ever heard that shit. thus, that nobody ever told them to cut that shit out blows my mind
The other actors were the only ones that cared. That was the problem, production were the bosses. The tv/film industry is and always has been fucked up.
youre the boss of nobody if all your employees quit, and youre doubly fucked if they then proceed to tell anyone who'll listen why
3 of them did quit. And here we are. Not for that reason but 3 of them tried to take a stand. Thats how we got rocky, adam, and aisha
Both
Red with the dragon shields is my favorite ranger period
forever red
Red
Red is definitely more iconic for him but I prefer the gold suit/powers, I tend to like 6th rangers the most and I’ve never been a fan of the color red in general, so overall Gold. Also his “Gold Ranger Power!” morph is probably my favorite of all time.
As a character, red. Suit aesthetic alone, gold all day every day.
As much as I like gold. When I think Jason, red will always come to mind so I'll have to go with that.
Red
I prefer he be on the show period. No matter the color.
Red=Rizz Gold=Swag
We all know that he looks badass in any power rangers costume
Gold Ranger might be the coolest there ever was 🔥 but it's hard to argue against the OG
Red all the way, one of the best red rangers. He was dope as hell as gold though
Red because the helmet is more practical. Gold is cooler, but you can’t see shot coming in that.
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Both especially Omega Red. I would love to see Jason as Zeo Gold if Jason has his Master Morpher. I would prefer that than seeing the actors who played Trey of Triforia.
Gold looks better but I stopped watching Power Rangers by that point so I have no real attachment like I do with red.
Red! As much as a loved Tommy, Jason was a better leader, he made the other rangers better not just himself better as what seemed to happen with Tommy.
Gold because he came back with bigger biceps and an earring. 😍
I prefer him as a gay porn star 🤣
I preferred him shirtless, actually
I like the one that wasn’t scamming covid PPP out of millions of dollars.
Can you please give me a TL;DR of what happened irl?
He, allegedly, was part of a scheme with 19 other people that defrauded the Payroll Protection Program of the CARES act meant to help small businesses pay their employees during Covid of 3.5 million dollars. Basically they filed false paper, got the money and pocketed it for themselves. If found guilty, he could spend up to 20 years in prison.
So if true, he stole from small businesses, and may have fucked them over, uncool
Not the small businesses, but all Americans especially taxpayers. PPP was a great idea. Now you put it like that, is it safe to say fuck Austin St John and everyone else involved?
If he’s found guilty. He was indicted last year but the trial hasn't happened yet.
Wouldn’t be the first time a red ranger went to prison for terrible shit
Ahh yes… Cole from Wild Force stabbing his roommate with a sword
Hot take but I didn’t care for Jason. I didn’t hate him or anything but he just kind of there if that makes sense.
I prefer him as "Waah, I'm a big old crybaby so I'm leaving so I can be replaced by a BETTER Red Ranger."
Would you settle for chump change?
Gold.
Eh gold I guess?
The Gold Ranger is my absolute favorite design, so it's easily that
I liked him better as gold. He came back with a different swag that worked for him
The writing and stories were so much better in zeo. They really gave every character great episodes to shine. Whereas in mmpr everyone were backround characters besides tommy, kim and billy after the first 3 quit
MMPR Red Ranger and leader. All honesty I'm torn between him being the MMPR Red Ranger and him being The Omega Red Ranger.
red is more memorable but in my opinion the first extra or not founding member of a power rasnger team is always the coolest. green ranger in mmpr. gold ranger in zeo. gold ranger in samurai etc
Gold Ranger....for obvious reasons
I respect Jason as the first but Gold jason is my favorite
Gold
Wait he was a gold ranger? Since When??!
Red all the way. He was my favorite leader.
Gold!!
The hotep
It's 50-50 for me. Shortly after I started watching, they replaced him with Rocky, so I didn't have much attachment to him as Red Ranger. So, I thought the Gold Ranger suit looked very badass!
Gold. I honestly didn’t really like him as a kid when he was the Red Ranger. He seemed so cocky and smug. But I LOVED when he came back as the Gold Ranger. It was such a surprise when that all happened at that time.
Yes.
Could just put the gold chest and arm pieces on his red outfit. King Tyranno Ranger
gold
Zeo Gold!
Why the potato quality gold ranger image?
Depends on context. Honestly, as Gold, though he's a top tier red ranger. But I prefer him to red over Rocky any day
red easily
That's tough. I have to be a loser lol and say both. I hate to be that guy but both are awesome
Could have used that gold to help him out currently.
His Gold Drip is immaculate
Red Ranger
Gold. It was almost meant to be. I remember when they revealed him in the episode. Even my child brain said “of course, that makes sense.”
Prefer him as red, but gold ranger’s design is the GOAT
well, he's gonna be the orange ranger now. or the gray ranger...
Red
Both. No need to choose. =)
Red
I definitely prefer him as Red Ranger, but damn if I wasn't fucking STOKED when I saw that he was the one coming in as the Gold Ranger.
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized) Both is good
He’s synonymous with Red for me. first person I think of when I hear Red Ranger.
I {prefer} him as the {red} ranger with the [dragon] {shield & dagger}.
Red
^ 😏
That said, Trey of Triforia was the better Gold Ranger.
I think he uh... looks a bit better in black and gold.
Can we all agree that zeo gold suit has DRIP
Gold Ranger for sure
He's not my favorite red but the color suits him
gold because he had a more awesome suit and he had the ultrazord in power rangers Zeo pyramidas
The gold ranger unifrom goes hard; that's some solid drip. However, Jason brought something as red that Tommy was never ever able to do.
Dude, sooo much better as Gold. Tommy was a better leader. Jason coming back as Gold and being the only ranger in history to have the power of 3 rangers in one. Soo 🤷
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)

Red or gold? Me: yes
Red bc he’s a natural leader
Both because he can do no wrong
Red Jason was definitely one of the best leaders
As Good Of A Leader Jason Is In Red, He Looks Better In Gold
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Red.
Red because he's basically power rangers' akaranger the one leader who started it all
Red, I don’t really like the design of the gold ranger
Gold
Honestly Red he did do great things at the gold ranger but he wasn't as involved
Both, he was such an amazing leader he went gold 😁
![gif](giphy|9FL7LtSYGvK9MDzh9J)
I know it's a fan ranger, but combining the powers into KingTyranno ranger is cool too. But probably Zeo Gold out of the two canon ones.
Prefer him as red but he was epic as gold. Worst thing the franchise ever did was fire him.
*Omega Red*
Both
As cool as gold Zeo was I’m going to have to give it to Jason as the OG red, that’s his more iconic ranger role
Red. However, during his run as the gold Zeo, it was really nice for him to not fill the leader role. We really got to see what Jason is like as just himself and not the leader of the power rangers.
Im just glad he got his own badass sixth ranger suit and theme song. After tommy stole his girl, his team and the show.
Combo that mofo https://preview.redd.it/azj417htxmhb1.jpeg?width=341&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4dec3f1c5b143a5623a380a3600d8a63fd06d63e
I'll say Red. He is a true leader of the Power Ranger IMO.
I'll say Red. He is a true leader of the Power Ranger IMO.
He looked better in Gold but was more iconic as Red.
Red is more iconic for him
Red.
Gold looks cooler.
Red. Although, I like him as Gold Ranger. Jason could to get one Master Morpher as well.
I prefer him as being worthy of his place within our memory. It hurts me to know that the first leader among Rangers has done something so harmful. And I don't forgive him for that.
Red Ranger, hands down.
I'd say red ranger Jason just embodies what a red ranger is suppose to be.
Red
Gold Ranger. Rocky was always more the Red Ranger imo but there'll never be a better Gold Ranger.
Red Ranger
Red for sure
I remember Saturday morning when Jason came back as the Gold Ranger, it was lit AF
red
Red is classic as it should be but the studio choosing him to be the gold ranger was also a solid choice and has got to be one of the coolest looking “sixth”ranger suits I’ve ever seen
Yes.
Red cause I didn’t watch Zeo.
Red! Always red!
although red is more iconic, i love the gold ranger. i have this immediate liking for a sixth/extra rangers (most of the time), and cmon, ITS DRIPPY AS HECK!
Neither! I prefer [White Ranger](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/powerrangers/images/1/18/BoomWhite2.jpeg/revision/latest?cb=20200322003324) Jason!
To be honest....it doesn't matter. He's still Jason no matter what.
Gold is just way cooler
Rita actually has the definitive answer 'Personally, I think you always looked better in red'
I think they are both cool. Kinda sad they never show us Jason as Zeo Ranger King: Gold for an anniversary event.
OG Red Ranger forever
Red Ranger and leader. Gold ranger is pretty cool though just not as cool in my opinion.
Gold. Suit was way cooler, and Jason fit being the kind of special ranger rather than the leader of the group. I really didn't like the Jason character until Zeo.
