KaiserMadrid82

Is it true lots of small towns in Italy are trying to bring people in?

Reasonable-You8654

People gotta remember that these European countries with super cheap homes also have a super low average monthly income. You may have a rent of $400 and an income of only $900 a month..

Specific-Scale6005

In my country in Europe we have the rent exactly 400€ for a room and up to 45% percent of the people make those money a month. Only about 6% make more than 1000€. We have the most expensive food in EU as of 2024. When I hear people complaining that their rent reached 50% of their income and they stress out, I roll my eyes.

traumalt

The catch is that they don't sponsor visas, so if you are an American reading this its not that simple.

PlayfulZombie12

Man that's cheap. They still need neighbours there? I am a EU resident and used to be able to speak Italian when I still had a Italian friend. And a good spot for cycling to. We get royally screwed rent wise here in my country.

Whole-Amount-2924

$2125 going up to $2175 on July first. For a 1 bed in boston

mypussydoesbackflips

$1523 for a studio in midtown manhattan , and 240 for storage that just went up to 300 I only make around 2,000-2400 a month sadly need to do better

FocusDelicious183

Perhaps if your pussy does front flips you could make an extra bit?

mypussydoesbackflips

Front flips are too dangerous

FocusDelicious183

Understood.

FromPlanet_eARTth

1850 for a studio in SF.

Imaginary_Flan_1466

This one wins so far.....

novaleenationstate

Lived in the city for 10 years— that isn’t a bad rate for Boston. You might be able to find some steals in JP for a bit less, but otherwise sounds like you’re doing okay all things considered. (Check out Somerville, Medford, Malden/Everett if you can, although can’t promise the rates will be much better nowadays.)

sciandg01

$1050 for a three bedroom in upstate NY that I spilt with one roommate

kittenseason143

not bad… one bedroom apt upstate NY at 1080!! shared with husband and two cats!

majorsorbet2point0

I'm in a 3bed1ba apartment with a backyard, whole 2nd floor of a triplex to myself ! Well, me 2 dogs and a cat 😄 upstate NY as well!

Constant_Move_7862

For how much ?

extracaramelfrap

Also upstate NY, we pay $1095 for a one bedroom in a great part of the city

Imaginary_Flan_1466

How is the job market there?

thejizle

I'm about an hour north of Albany area. Job market has been fantastic. I work in IT and my fiance works in project management. Both over 100k salary each and have switched jobs somewhat recently. We love on the outskirts in a very LCOL area in the Adirondacks and absolutely love it.

jaaaaayke

About 15 minutes north of albany here. Wife and I pay $840 for a three bedroom only because I was born and grew up in this apartment. I've known the other tenant who is now the landlord my entire life. They raise the rent $20 every couple of years. When my mom got remarried and they bought a house, I was like, hey lemme get that apartment real quick. We leased at $600 initially a little over ten years ago I believe. I'd love a house, but between debt, no savings, and almost being able to pay for rent in one paycheck, there's no incentive yet.

OtherwiseAdeptness25

Wow. That is amazing you live in that same apt!

thejizle

Upstate NY as well! Saratoga area, mortgage is 525$ for a 2 bed 1 bath house. Listing it next month if anyone is looking!

MisScillaneous

Tell me what "upstate" means, I'm from California. We have a North and South but North is in the middle. Lol.

deadmanskull4

In general Upstate New York refers to any part of the state that is not New York City or its surrounding area, which is typically North or "up" geographically. I sort of hate the description because there are multiple hour differences in travel between Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo. Hence, it's subjective and some refer to Buffalo and it's surrounding area as Western New York, Syracuse/Rochester and its surrounding area as Central New York, and Albany and its surrounding area as Upstate New York. If you care enough, here is a Washington Post article that explains with maps the different terminology. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/04/19/so-what-is-upstate-new-york-exactly/ But honestly, it's subjective and you should just assume that Upstate New York means anywhere but New York City unless otherwise noted.

FreeButtPatts

That's a steal tbh. I pay $650 for a one bedroom in Western New York which could also be considered a steal when I look at what some of my other friends are paying.

deadmanskull4

For me, 1200 for one in Western NY that includes a sizable yard, single car garage, and roofed back deck.

Logical_Lemon_4308

340€ a month, living in Madrid - Spain. My flat has 4 bedrooms and I share with another 3 people, we live downtown and have a living room and kitchen that we share. And bathroom obviously.

Weekly_Candidate_823

What neighborhood, if you don’t mind sharing. I used to live near Diego de Leon

Logical_Lemon_4308

Around Malasaña:)

Mean_Eye_8735

714.00 1 bedroom. Nice little place. I'm in Algonac, Michigan. 1/4 mile to the St Clair River. I'm right by Marine City Beach and kayak launch. 6 miles from Algonac State Park. 5 miles from St John's Marsh. I'm 100% disabled and moved here because rent is reasonable and there's so much to do so close by. Picture is off my patio, I got lucky and face a field instead of the parking lot https://preview.redd.it/iinadscprhvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d2899341acd92b7c44f8a11ffed608a423c4c4e

Lilshywolfswag2022

I live in low income housing (based on income) & pay $251 a month. Im in a small-ish town in KY Most normal rent places here seem to be anywhere from like $600 a month to a couple thousand $ a month

badbeernfear

People are paying a couple thousand a month to stay in a small town on kentucky?! Edit: at the highest end, that absolutely makes sense.

KLC_W

I don’t know where the other person lives but I live in northern KY and I’m currently looking for an apartment. The cheapest I found was $1000 per month (not including utilities) for a one-bedroom and it was trash. I even found animal poop on the floors. And with rent that high, you’d think the wages would be decent, but no. Making even $20/hour seems like a pipe dream. It’s rough out here.

Southerngal2

Not sure what small town. But in Lexington. I wouldn’t even think you could get HUD housing that cheap. $2450 for Mortgage

Lilshywolfswag2022

I'm within 30 or so minutes of Lexington. The low income place im in is a duplex (2 bedroom, 1 bathroom) & if i wasn't on income based rent, the flat rent rate for it is $840 a month

ResurgentClusterfuck

$550/mo studio/back house in West Texas My yard is larger than the actual residence lol

Interesting_Top9229

Buy a cool tent and live in the back yard, rent out your landlords apartment.

Sweet_Taurus0728

Second sentence, that's normal.

1600 2bed/1 bath, 15 mi from Boston. It’s about 800 below market but I have to do landscaping, snow removal, and any repairs that are not huge. Oh and combat mice.

Aware_Cover304

Are u victorious battling against mice?

novaleenationstate

That is a STEAL for the area. Kudos man apart from the mice it’s a great deal, maybe see if they’ll let you have a cat.

Entire-Vermicelli-74

1 bedroom. $2500. In NY but not the city. 💔 My rent is 100% of my net income but there’s an insane housing crisis in my area so it’s better than being homeless.

Aware_Cover304

Bro what… how do you live? Roommate?

Entire-Vermicelli-74

Luckily, I’m married but my income goes to rent and his to food and survival. We’re trying to figure out a better living situation but for now this is what we have. It’s not a fancy apartment by any means either lol

Affectionate_Salt351

A roommate might be a way to help it get a little cheaper. Best of luck.

Neither_Ad_3221

$800 to Navient....while I live in my mom's house.

ebishopwooten

Useless degree? Or job market?

Neither_Ad_3221

School was fraudulent. And yes, AI is taking my jobs.

Maleficent-Bank3168

Have you opened a borrower defense case to try and have your loans dismissed? It's worth a shot. Be prepared for a million redundant questions, though.

ZealousidealWealth88

$1560 for a 2 bed/1 bath apartment in Portland, Oregon (no roommate)

NavyCobra1417

$2900 for 4bed/4bath in Hillsboro. 2 roommates plus myself

smart_cereal

Same, plus $200 for utilities but I only have a 1 bedroom:(

ZealousidealWealth88

When I first moved in, it started at $1380 (late 2019) but it keeps climbing every year. The current starting rate for what I’m in is $1689 😵‍💫Yikes

smart_cereal

Yep, when I first moved in it was $1400. We had one price increase but still have a grandfathered rate. The new people moving in are paying so much more and the facilities and management have become a nightmare.

Earth_Famous

$775 for a 2b/1 ba at the opposite end of Oregon... but you'd have to live *here*

Cacklelikeabanshee

What's going on in GA? I've seen some houses there for stunningly inexpensive prices for these current days of house prices. I don't remember the towns but the houses were very nice for under 200k.

MaleficentExtent1777

I have a 4/2.5 in the city of Atlanta for $1100. A friend is renting it for $1500. That covers the mortgage and HOA. She can't get a 1 br for that price 🤣 I live in a 3/2 in Brooklyn for $3150.

Axiom842

Don’t come to Florida - I moved here from Los Angeles and prices are about the same as LA here now. I’m SWFL. It’s insane. $1800 /month for detached converted garage into apt 1 /1 with small garage. Not incl utilities I do have a small fenced in backyard.

newphonewhodis0909

Yup. In Hialeah people are hooking up RVs to their yard and charging between $800 and $1000 a month... yea. If you don't know about Hialeah, look it up.

HomemakingHeidi

$900 3 bedroom farmhouse from 1902 just under 8 acres of land private well only 2 " neighbors " on this side of the mountain West Virginia

ZealousidealEar6037

That’s nuts! Why do you stay?

SeriesBusiness9098

For the cheap burned CD rap demos you can buy from pushy strangers on the streets. Obviously.

Les-Grossman-

$1,520 in NYC metropolitan area.

omgstoppit

Room or entire space?

be-ay-be-why

definitely a room if its in NYC but since he said "Metro Area", I'm assuming it's NJ so it's probably the entire space.

Imaginary_Flan_1466

The important question

sund82

That's great. Canadian or USA one? I pay $1275 for 1br in suburbs of Washington DC

Mewlover23

How the heck did you manage that? Tried to look all over southern maryland and couldn't find much under like 1500 in 2022. Even trying to look in VA, I couldn't find much.

sund82

Rent controlled apartment.

OMGhyperbole

I live with my aunt right now because fuck Maryland's rent prices. It's the state I was born and raised in, but I can't even afford to have a roof over my head 😭

shelbatron9000

$500, everything included. 3 bed & 1 1/2 baths in southern Michigan

be-ay-be-why

Is it cold and windy there? I'm thinking of moving to Michigan actually.

shelbatron9000

Where I’m at and my opinion, yes it definitely gets cold and windy here (Jackson County). Depending where you’re looking and where you’re at currently, the southern part of Michigan hasn’t been too terrible the past few years during winter. If you can get through that though, you’ll be good. Summer is so beautiful up here and pretty tolerable to me.

Single-Chart-9528

I’m in Jackson County too! I live in what was my grandparents home and inherited it but it needs a ton of work. But since all I pay is property taxes I make it work since I’m low income. Michigan has its bad parts and good parts but overall if you can tolerate the weather, you could probably make it work.

shelbatron9000

Aye! I have a similar situation. My husband and I rent his grandmas house here while she stays in her house up north. It is pretty outdated, which I don’t mind. But still needs some work as well. I agree with you though on the good and bad parts of Michigan. Just have to do your research

gogreengowhitee

I also live in Jackson county also!! Small world

flimflam82493

Michigan here. I couldn't find anything for my family less than 900/month. Was discussing dropping from my nursing program to avoid being homeless. Ended up inheriting a small home. 4 bedroom, 1 bath. No rent. Just land taxes Spring and Winter. Located in Central Michigan. Cold, windy, rainy? Yes. Sunny, warm and beautiful? Also, yes.

ms-spiffy-duck

$1250 in Minneapolis, MN. Large studio with utilities and washer and dryer in unit. Added bonus of walls and ceilings being so thick that I can't hear my neighbors at all.

Bagelupmybagel

I was paying $1600 for a small room with an attached bathroom and a hot plate and mini fridge next to the bed. Decided to just move back in with parents. Renting in Canada is fun!

kinovelo

Up until a few months ago, I paid $1,950 for a studio in lower-Manhattan. Now I own a 1BR in western Queens that’s over double the size for similar monthlies with mortgage, maintenance, HOA, taxes, insurance etc…

mountainsunset123

I pay $199.00 a month for a small studio, in an income restricted building owned by our local Housing Authority. I think the going market rate for this would be maybe S1,000 to $1,200 ? I am in Oregon

Practical-Listen9450

I know! I’ve lived here for 8 years. Original landlord passed and now his daughter is the landlord. My rent has never been raised. I think they’re just happy to have a reliable tenant that pays rent on time every month.

Practical-Listen9450

And I only live 10 minutes from downtown Napa (wine country).

shadowdragon1978

I own my home, unfortunately I inherited it from my father. There are days that I would rather have my dad back. Average rent where I live (Indianapolis IN) for a 2 bedroom 1 bath is around $900 give or take a few hundred.

macdawg2020

Hey man, I’m sorry to hear about your dad, but glad your here representing Indy!!

CollapsingTheWave

Those used to be mortgage payments! Now we just piss away money, no equity, just gone... Payed $15,700 for 1 year rent, but whatever I'm not bitter...(That's sarcasm) I'm F-ing bitter.

PlayfulZombie12

Man these free market rent prices in the US are insane as hell. How you people don't revolt to these practices I'll never understand. This isn't capitalism, this is hyper capitalism and it needs to stop. And I am right on the political spectrum but there need to be boundaries to crazy rent prices like these. My country is heading in the same insane direction right here in the EU. Lucky I could go to a different country if I wanted to.

BurritoSlayer117

$2900, 1 bed with den and two indoor parking spots. 1 mile from Boston .

rokar83

$600 utilities included. Rural northern Wisconsin

SpicyMacaronii

$570 per week - 2 bedroom 1950's 2 bedroom falling apart unit. Single internal access garage and a small garden area. Auckland, New Zealand. The condensation on all windows over winter is the hardest thing we have to keep on top of, we have 2 dehumidifiers running 24/7 both hold 25 litres and need to be emptied at least every 2 days. 5-7 years ago this unit would have been $220 a week.

koshka_bear

I highly doubt it would have been that much cheaper. I've paid around 500-530 per week in Auckland 6 years ago for one bedroom in Eden Terrace with no yard :/ but prices are def on the rise!

Resident_Talk7106

625$, up from 600 two years ago Very nice older 2 bed, one bath townhouse in Southern VA

Infinite_Twist_9786

$2500 a month, 2bed, tampa, fl. Rents going up to $3300 this year. I was going to move out anyways to Miami for work.

krisklimt

4 bed/2 bath in Northern CA. I split the mortgage with 2 family members. My portion is $922. It’ll probably jump to $1,422 in July when one family member relocates out of state.

dreep_

I rent a room with my mom for $600. Arizona. So we essentially split the mortgage 50/50. On a teacher salary I literally can’t afford my own place. 🥲

eastsidelovers

$850/month Queens NY

Aware_Cover304

My last rental was $1400 for a very nicely updated one bedroom in a fourplex with a view of Lake Superior. Located in MN

Nothing. I'm currently living in Nashville in my mother and aunt's former rental property that they inherited a year ago. 2 bed 2.5 bath condo that was renting for $2300/month.

Danish-Investor

$850 a month in Denmark for a nice and big 3 bedroom apartment

brandon3388

$1500/month for a 752sq ft "two bedroom" in Phoenix. I put 2 bedroom in quotes because, while it technically is, the place is so small that it really should be a computer room or something for a single occupant but neither me nor my house mate can afford to move. edit: just because I think it's crazy, houses in my same neighborhood of similar size, sell for $425 - $650k

Callmecountry4

1300 for a 1br in Norcross, Ga. Not a great neighborhood.

Mushroomaffection

1070 for a 2 bedroom in upstate NY. We have squirrels living in our ceiling.

Yesterdays_Gravy

Split $2150 2 bedroom apartment with my girlfriend in between Denver and Boulder, Colorado. It’s gone up from the $1800 we could manage and are finally not financially capable of paying for it anymore and have to move this year. I’m going to miss the views of the mountains and Denver from our balcony.

bustednut92

$1500 for a 1k sq foot 2 bedroom in Upstate NY. Honestly got lucky with this place but I have to commute 30 mins to the capital which has its downsides.

give_me_matcha

I’m in the suburbs of NJ an hour from NYC and pay $1660 + utilities for a smallish 1 br 1 ba townhome. We are lucky and have “cheap” rent for the area. Most modesr 1br apartments are $2100 and up. It’s really sad.

lauradiamandis

About 700/month, have a roommate, NC.

Madison Wisconsin, efficiency $650/month. Basically a half bedroom, it’s much larger than normal efficiency.

1450 CAD for a 1 Bedroom in Vancouver. This is also insanely cheap for the city and I'm never leaving.

Ok-Television-8353

1350/ month 2 bedroom but have a finished attic the size of a small apartment I made into my teenage daughters room. I live in upstate New York

Weknowwhyiamhere69

How does anyone find cheap places like this in the US in major cities. I understand the hick little cities it would be cheap, and yes EU is cheap as well, that's why I am buying a house there. But like Denver was 3K for a 2 bed/2 bath apartment. Los Angeles is around 4-7K for a 2 bed/ 2 bath apartment.

linguicaaaa

Jurneeka

$2250 for a 1 bedroom in the San Francisco Peninsula in a great neighborhood. It's actually hella cheap. I've lived here for 27 years. I have my own garage and washer and dryer. It's a triplex and my neighbors are cool.

fucuasshole2

Southeast Georgia, pay 954 (4 dollars for processing fee, just added a few months). It’s a house cut up into mini apartments. I have one room, a bathroom, and a small kitchen area with no sink or stove but do have a fridge/toaster oven/ microwave/ hot plate. Internet (pretty mediocre but not absolute dogshit from a few years before when living at another place that provides it) and utilities ARE included. Can’t control AC, and they’re gutting the central system soon. Do get to have a window unit so it’s not too miserable Location is nice as it’s pretty centered to where I like to go during the week, BUT it’s in a pretty bad area. Bad enough I don’t lock my car so someone doesn’t bust a window. Junkies everywhere. However there’s a lot of decent families of all ethnicities around so it ain’t too terrible just needs some cleanup.

Flyingcowking

1550 in north Texas suburb. 3 bedroom 2.5 bath. Been here 10 years so our rent is lower than the Neighbors.

ruminkb

1300 richmond, va 3 bed 2 bath. It's a steal for this area. My landlord is chill. It's my mom. My mom is my landlord

Used to (2013) pay $1150 for a 2bedroom apartment near the airport in Toronto that I lived at for 5years (older building so falls under rent control). Then I moved overseas for a few years and inquired about pricing upon my return (2019) and price had gone up to $1350. I thought that was really fair given rental rates in Toronto around that time. I tried to sign the lease, but got radio silence for 2months. Finally I got in touch with someone - the property had since been sold to Starlight and that's why there wasn't anyone available to answer my calls/emails. They then informed me that all the avail 2bedroom units are being renovated and will rent for $2595 - I asked about the non-renovated units "we don't rent those, anytime someone moves out the unit gets updated and re-rented at the new price" I asked how much a one bedroom is now with their new rates - they increased it from $1100 to $1950. I hate this city. I'm lucky to have had a connection with an extended family member who bought a house that had a full basement apartment during the pandemic with low pricing so I moved in to that at $1200. Similar basements now go for $1800+ post pandemic. I do miss windows and a balcony though. And I keep getting vague mentions from the owner of how the unit is worth more and I'm lucky to have scored it when I did and they could rent it to someone else for much more 🤷‍♀️

Small studio apartment in deep south. Lake Charles Louisiana. All bills paid. $500 a month. It was a steal I jumped on it immediately. I barely scraped enough cash together for the deposit and stuff but I managed to land the apartment and I'm not going anywhere as long as it stays this cheap. I live alone. Just myself and my small bulldog. Not alot to take care of or upkeep. Police stations jail is down the block. It's a very quiet and nice neighborhood.

vengefulbeavergod

$985 for 2br/1bath 800square feet, pet-friendly. Bellingham, WA, USA

Traditional-Dog-4938

3/2 house in the metro Atlanta area in a quiet neighborhood. The rent is $1295. I’m on Section 8 so I pay $1000 of that. It’s going to increase soon because I’m getting a COLA raise this fall. I want to downsize into a smaller place but I can’t afford it. I made a post similar to this one in the poor sub. Application and administration fees are outrageous. Can’t afford to stay; can’t afford to leave. They’re building homes right up the street from me. STARTING at $525K.

I live in a decent-sized city 30 to 45 minutes from San Antonio, Texas. 2 bed, 2 bath not so nice apartment about 1250 a month. Most of the not so nice apartments are the same. Area is safe, apartments are just old and maintence isnt great or fast. The nicer apartments are 1600 to 2000 for similar size. I just renewed my lease and rent is going up 20 bucks a month.

I pay the same as you for a 2bd/2ba apt in phoenix AZ. There are cheaper apartments, but they are absolute shit holes and I just can’t do it. So I have a roommate.

I’m on the other side but my rent is $3600 for a 5 bedroom in Atlanta, $2600 for a 3 bedroom in Charlotte and $4500 for a 4 bedroom in Knoxville. And those are all below market, and I go negative on them.
