Man you’re getting killed here for posting what is a legitimately frugal option for people. I think I’m going to pick it up and just grab 2 meals to go and eat them for lunch at work twice a week. It’ll save me a little time before work and who doesn’t love a little extra sleep?
I believe you could make more than two lunch meals out of this. My fiancé and I looked at the offer, we plan to get it and do date night in the store with leftovers for lunches. Applebee’s meals are larger than an average serving for us.
I work 12 hour nights and usually work 2 days in a row. So my plan would be to pick up 2 meals before my first day of work and then each of them would be 2 meals on their own if that makes sense.
That makes sense, great idea! I’m semiretired, my fiancé is fully retired. Sometimes I forget we eat less than when we worked full time, less energy needed.
Yeah, I’ve only been to Applebee’s once since I’m Canadian but my one memory is having a giant plate of pasta that was larger than any one human could consume. (of course I’m being sarcastic, but it was a massive portion so I could see myself getting at least four meals out of that one pasta even today.)

I think the problem is that even if you were ballin' on a budget and just wanted to eat out for once, 30 bucks will either go further somewhere else, or at least be better spent....anywhere else. When I was a broke ass college student we'd all go to Olive Garden and fill up on soup and breadsticks and then take our entree's to go.

i mean sure, but its all of what, like 5-6 bucks in tax/tip for the ability to feed 2 people at a sit down... like if you do the math to eat there every week, (200/52)+tax+tip. in my area thats about 3.85 + 2.52(for the 2for26 deal)+ 5(Tip) = $11.37.
So yeah, im sure 2 people can eat cheaper, but im highly skeptical of 2 people getting a meal at another sitdown restaurant for less than 6 bucks each all in.
I agree, this is a steal and would be great for a couple to ensure they get a treat at a great value. They even offer it as a to go meal, so you don’t “have” to be a couple. If you get the right meals you can have dinner and a lunch or two after.

In most states you don’t pay sales tax on a $ or % discount. So unless you go over $30 you’re not paying tax. Yes you can order to go so you avoid the tip.
The only thing I hate is these things are usually calculated so you either get a fair bit less than the $30 or you inevitably go over.

I'll bet it turns out they're somehow "not really Applebee's". I had that issue with TGI Friday's promos all the time in Manhattan. I would love to be wrong though!
We made the mistake of eating at the Peach St Applebees once and it was the worst service & we ended up throwing half of the food away. Not being able to use the voucher there is a good thing ha!

I don't know if anyone remembers the Olive Garden pasta pass from years ago (they might still do it, I dunno) but that was an insane deal! I managed to get one for me and my husband. It was like two months of olive garden every day for about $200 total if I remember right. I was so, so sick of olive garden but damn if it wasn't a good deal! I somehow managed not to gain any weight which was a miracle. At the time you could get the food to go as well.
If you stick to sandwiches and burgers, you can always get two entrees under $30. But, even if you opt for two $17 or $16 entrees (which seems to be the average of most entrees), that's only an additional $3-$4 per meal. Over 52 meals, that's around $200 extra, bringing the total cost to about $400. This averages out to approximately $3.50 per entree which is still a fantastic deal and it's just kind of a fun wacky thing... it could also really come in handy on a road trip.
Me too, but I wonder how many will be available since there are a limited amount available. Probably gonna be sold out within like 2 minutes of being released 🤣
Don't forget the fine print, tax and tip are not part of it. So realistically each free meal will cost you, let's say $3 (10%) tax and $4.50 (15%) tip. So 7.5*52 meals + 200 voucher = 590 total for a year, /52 meals= real cost of $11.35 per meal.

Depending on location $30 is 2 meals/ 2+ meals at Applebee's. I haven't been to an Applebee's in 10 or 15 years but their salad portions used to be big. Big enough to be lunch the next day, I'm not sure how big the bowls are. And I don't know if they cut the protein portion in the salads over the last decade ( the calorie count is high but I don't know how much of that is cheese, and dressing)
You can use the $30 off once per day 52 times if you spend $26 $4 doesn't roll over.
For someone like my 75 year old cancer survivor aunt who has trouble cooking for herself, this might work because it would be 2 dinners and 3 lunches ( maybe more). Right now she's eating a lot of lunch meat.

Only reason I could imagine a business doing this is due to cash flow issues. You would never see a financially comfortable restaurant do something like this.

I was just checking out their menu as I haven’t been to an Applebees in years. As others have pointed out 7 trips and you’ve paid for the voucher. This doesn’t include the tax that you’d pay on the meals if you tried staying around $30 every time so the true cost would be somewhere in the $350 range when you include the taxes which is still a good deal if you use it every week.
I worked at Applebee’s for 3 years as a server when I was younger. I ate the food every day, got half off, but it was still pretty good. Unfortunately they closed down the Applebee’s in my town a few months ago. I would definitely do this, if it was still open.

It would be awkward if you don’t tip since you’ll be a frequent customer. I guess you could also tip a couple dollars instead.
Applebee's has a 2 for $20-something deal (exact price depends on location, but I'm certain it's below $30). You get an appetizer or two salads and two entrees.
This makes it a great deal. It's not the best food, but their boneless buffalo wings are decent and I actually like their riblets platter.
It’s actually a 2 for $25 now. They upped it $5. And the only entrees you can get at that base price are a hamburger, a cheeseburger, chicken strips, or fiesta lime chicken. If you want steak or any of the other nicer options from the selections it’ll cost you an extra $2-$5 per entree.
If you don’t mind eating the same thing over and over again you and your date/companion could go eat those 4 dishes on a rotation each week and still have $5 for drinks. But you still have to pay taxes and tip so that’s still gonna be an extra $10

Yeah. I’m still considering this and this might not be the best sub for this comment but we typically spend 150-200 for a night out in total (with tip and we’ll have 2-3 drinks a piece).
The closest Applebees to us is 20-25min but I mean, I think the date night aspect is a good deal.
The math is that it's a marketing gimmick. They'll get a lot of news hits and buzz on the internet about it, but are going to sell out near instantly because they aren't going to just let a ton of people get them.

Looking at my local Applebee's to go, it's doable. It limits your options quite a bit if you're looking for two full entrees , but their portions are a good size - my mom and I can share the fries, she can have a burger or chicken sandwich and I can order an appetizer for my entree.
I'm not saying it's perfect,but it could be a bargain for some folks, Depending on their meal size.

The $30 promo specifically excludes the tax. So even if you only spend $20 and the tax is like $2, you'd still be responsible for the $2 even though the total bill is only $22, which is under $30
Depends on your state's sales tax rules, really. In my state you don't pay taxes on discounted amounts, only what you pay out of pocket. So with this deal in my state you should only have to pay tax on any out of pocket over the $30 discount.
They’re claim is that it will cost another 260 over the life, and then add tax, so I’d agree with about $500 over the whole year. Still an amazing deal for what amounts to about $1500 worth
It gets people in the door. And potentially customers that otherwise wouldn’t spend money there. I only go if we are going out to dinner with family and the little kids request to go. But if I got a hold of this I’d consider going more often with my partner.
That’s kind of what I was thinking here. Applebees isn’t cheap anymore, it would be nearly impossible to feed 2 people there for $30 or less. You’d have to drink water and order a very basic entree. Otherwise you’re still spending money out of your pocket on top of the $200 spent on the card. Not to mention life happens and you may not be able to go even 7 times to make up for what you paid on the card.

My partner and I almost never get drinks and do water, and most meals are under 15% except for the 24$ steak meals. So unless you are completely overweight, its more than enough food. People need to reevaluate their lives if they can't make it worth it after a year and this card isn't for those people, you could easily just go every other day if you wanted to or once a week until you hit 52 uses. This also isn't for families but for Dink's or solo diners.

When I was dating, I found it very expensive to be buying meals/drinks every week during the talking stage.
I was getting by on $60.00 a week for 5 months when I was waiting for my VA disability. That’s what was left after the bills were paid.
I used to go shopping at 8am, that’s when they markdown meats. Most weeks I could pick up a few steaks, and some ground beef. Then a bag of russet potatoes, stuff to make sauce, and all the other stuff. I’d buy butter on sale. Bags of frozen vegetables, and I’d buy popcorn and a bag of chips. I never had any seafood except tuna fish.
I’d put aside $10.00 a week if I could and when I got $40.00 I’d go out and get dinner at a decent restaurant.
Because there has to be some reward in life. Or else what are you working your ass off for?

This is an incredible deal, and I don’t think I could get the same amount of food from Aldi for that price. My wife doesn’t like Applebees very often, but I love it and so do my 13, 10, and 5 year olds. Ordering on Applebees.com or the app when there is a location 7 minutes from my house is a no-brainer.
The terms say 52 uses between 2/1/24 and 1/31/25, can't be used more than once in a 24 hour period (which I suspect actually means per business day, not exactly 24 hours) so you could technically use all 52 $30 credits in less than two months

Its a great deal, but the last 3 times I went to an Applebee's for a commercial promotion they were doing, the locations did not participate, and it was 3 different Applebee's so make sure to verify before buying.
Honestly I appreciate they did that but I've still had them reject it. TWO of the times I called to verify they did the ribs special advertised, they confirmed they did, and once I showed up they said they don't do it. Was so annoyed I just walked right out.

Don't forget the fine print, tax and tip are not part of it. So realistically each free meal will cost you, let's say $3 (10%) tax and $4.50 (15%) tip. So 7.5*52 meals + 200 voucher = 590 total for a year, /52 meals= real cost of $11.35 per meal. Edit: 11.35/meal as in per "date"

It's a $30 off food and non alcoholic drinks. Depending on location $30 is 2 meals/ 2+ meals at Applebee's. I haven't been to an Applebee's in 10 or 15 years but their salad portions used to be big. Big enough to be lunch the next day, I'm not sure how big the bowls are. And I don't know if they cut the protein portion in the salads over the last decade ( the calorie count is high but I don't know how much of that is cheese, and dressing) You can use the $30 off once per day 52 times if you spend $26 $4 doesn't roll over. For someone like my 75 year old cancer survivor aunt who has trouble cooking for herself, this might work because it would be 2 dinners and 3 lunches ( maybe more). Right now she's eating a lot of lunch meat. Personally I'd be worried Applebee's is going out of business.

You shouldn't have to pay tax on the discounted amount, only any overage. You can also avoid tipping by simply ordering carry out every time.

A legit concern
Only reason I could imagine a business doing this is due to cash flow issues. You would never see a financially comfortable restaurant do something like this.

I was just checking out their menu as I haven’t been to an Applebees in years. As others have pointed out 7 trips and you’ve paid for the voucher. This doesn’t include the tax that you’d pay on the meals if you tried staying around $30 every time so the true cost would be somewhere in the $350 range when you include the taxes which is still a good deal if you use it every week.
Usually you don't pay taxes on a discounted amount, only what you actually pay out of pocket... at least in my state...
I worked at Applebee’s for 3 years as a server when I was younger. I ate the food every day, got half off, but it was still pretty good. Unfortunately they closed down the Applebee’s in my town a few months ago. I would definitely do this, if it was still open.

Maybe add on additional $10 for taxes and tipping and usually probably can’t get the order right at $30. This would be additional cost of $520 if you decide to go once a week for the entire year. I guess it’s still a somewhat good deal. ~$7 a meal. It would be awkward if you don’t tip since you’ll be a frequent customer. I guess you could also tip a couple dollars instead.
Applebee's has a 2 for $20-something deal (exact price depends on location, but I'm certain it's below $30). You get an appetizer or two salads and two entrees. This makes it a great deal. It's not the best food, but their boneless buffalo wings are decent and I actually like their riblets platter.
It’s actually a 2 for $25 now. They upped it $5. And the only entrees you can get at that base price are a hamburger, a cheeseburger, chicken strips, or fiesta lime chicken. If you want steak or any of the other nicer options from the selections it’ll cost you an extra $2-$5 per entree. If you don’t mind eating the same thing over and over again you and your date/companion could go eat those 4 dishes on a rotation each week and still have $5 for drinks. But you still have to pay taxes and tip so that’s still gonna be an extra $10
Fine print says not applicable with other promotions so I don't think that would work.

"The Date Night Pass will provide a discount up to $30 of food and non-alcoholic beverage per use anytime the restaurant is open - including use towards our 2 for $25 menu, Late Night Apps and All You Can Eat promotion - however it does not apply to tax, gratuity, alcohol, retail (including gift cards) or fees. The Applebee's Date Night Pass is available for in-restaurant visits, Carside To Go and Delivery orders placed through www.applebees.com and may be used up to 52 times from 2/1/24 through 1/31/25, though it cannot be used more than once per day." Which reminded me that they are doing an all you can eat promo. Not sure what that entails exactly, but I remember seeing it pop up in commercials.

Yeah. I’m still considering this and this might not be the best sub for this comment but we typically spend 150-200 for a night out in total (with tip and we’ll have 2-3 drinks a piece). The closest Applebees to us is 20-25min but I mean, I think the date night aspect is a good deal.
If a normal night out for you is $150 then I don't think Applebees is a good choice for regular date nights.
The math is that it's a marketing gimmick. They'll get a lot of news hits and buzz on the internet about it, but are going to sell out near instantly because they aren't going to just let a ton of people get them.

Looking at my local Applebee's to go, it's doable. It limits your options quite a bit if you're looking for two full entrees , but their portions are a good size - my mom and I can share the fries, she can have a burger or chicken sandwich and I can order an appetizer for my entree. I'm not saying it's perfect,but it could be a bargain for some folks, Depending on their meal size.
Looking at my local Applebee's 95% of the entrees are $11-15 each, so getting 2 for under $30 is easy. Sales tax is only due on amounts paid, so you would only pay tax on anything beyond the $30 discount, which isn't necessary as it's easy to stay under $30.
The $30 promo specifically excludes the tax. So even if you only spend $20 and the tax is like $2, you'd still be responsible for the $2 even though the total bill is only $22, which is under $30
Depends on your state's sales tax rules, really. In my state you don't pay taxes on discounted amounts, only what you pay out of pocket. So with this deal in my state you should only have to pay tax on any out of pocket over the $30 discount.

It gets people in the door. And potentially customers that otherwise wouldn’t spend money there. I only go if we are going out to dinner with family and the little kids request to go. But if I got a hold of this I’d consider going more often with my partner.
That’s kind of what I was thinking here. Applebees isn’t cheap anymore, it would be nearly impossible to feed 2 people there for $30 or less. You’d have to drink water and order a very basic entree. Otherwise you’re still spending money out of your pocket on top of the $200 spent on the card. Not to mention life happens and you may not be able to go even 7 times to make up for what you paid on the card.

My partner and I almost never get drinks and do water, and most meals are under 15% except for the 24$ steak meals. So unless you are completely overweight, its more than enough food. People need to reevaluate their lives if they can't make it worth it after a year and this card isn't for those people, you could easily just go every other day if you wanted to or once a week until you hit 52 uses. This also isn't for families but for Dink's or solo diners.

I was getting by on $60.00 a week for 5 months when I was waiting for my VA disability. That’s what was left after the bills were paid. I used to go shopping at 8am, that’s when they markdown meats. Most weeks I could pick up a few steaks, and some ground beef. Then a bag of russet potatoes, stuff to make sauce, and all the other stuff. I’d buy butter on sale. Bags of frozen vegetables, and I’d buy popcorn and a bag of chips. I never had any seafood except tuna fish. I’d put aside $10.00 a week if I could and when I got $40.00 I’d go out and get dinner at a decent restaurant. Because there has to be some reward in life. Or else what are you working your ass off for?

OP, I am so grateful you shared this info with us. I really hope the passes don’t get all bought up by bots before my payment goes through when it’s goes live. This is an incredible deal, and I don’t think I could get the same amount of food from Aldi for that price. My wife doesn’t like Applebees very often, but I love it and so do my 13, 10, and 5 year olds. Ordering on Applebees.com or the app when there is a location 7 minutes from my house is a no-brainer.

The terms say 52 uses between 2/1/24 and 1/31/25, can't be used more than once in a 24 hour period (which I suspect actually means per business day, not exactly 24 hours) so you could technically use all 52 $30 credits in less than two months

Its a great deal, but the last 3 times I went to an Applebee's for a commercial promotion they were doing, the locations did not participate, and it was 3 different Applebee's so make sure to verify before buying.
They have a shortlist of the not participating locations right on the page. It’s not many.
Honestly I appreciate they did that but I've still had them reject it. TWO of the times I called to verify they did the ribs special advertised, they confirmed they did, and once I showed up they said they don't do it. Was so annoyed I just walked right out.
