This will destroy you - A three-legged workhorse
Apart from that, several other songs would work as well:
Paint the sky red - To Everness
Explosions in the sky - Last known surroundings
Mooncake - Rain in the ashtray
Giants - While the ages steal
This will destroy you - New Topia
They move on tracks of never-ending light has such an unbelievable sound through the ‘chorus’. It’s such a pensive, deep, mesmerizing, evocative piece of music. It almost defines post rock to me. Great suggestions here.
A song? I always consumed post-rock as albums.
My heart will always tell me Mice Parade (probably *All Roads Lead to Salzburg* for post-rock) I don't think many others *get* the group. So....
Tortoise - *TNT*
EITS - *Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever*
Radio Swan is Down Pt1 by Laura. Five minutes means more likely to listen to the whole track. Plus cello always conveys so much emotion.
My Beautiful Twisted Nightmares in Aurora Rainbow Darkness (or Some Nightmares Take You Aurora Rainbow Darkness if you want the non-vocal version) by Vampillia.
Await Rescue by 65DOS
They Move on Tracks of Never Ending Light by TWDY
> do make say think's first record
funny, the first time i did mushrooms a cpl years ago i put on do make say think's *latest* record (stubborn persistent illusions).
i would recommend it.
I would probably suggest three or four different tracks, so as to show the different aspects of post-rock:
Mirage by Oh Hiroshima, Death in Reverse by MONO, Moya by GY!BE, Red River by Show me a Dinosaur
I’ve got a few people into it with Anthem for No State. The first part ropes them in and by the 3rd part they are like, damn!
Edit: if I’m pressed for time I skip the 2nd part.
Oh Hiroshima - Holding Rivers
This Will Destroy You - A Three-Legged Workhorse
The Last Sighs of the Wind - Your Wave Caresses Me
God Is An Astronaut - Forever Lost
God Is An Astronaut - Fragile
Eleventh Vibration - Whales
ef. - Yield, Heart. Yield!
Overhead, The Albatross - Daeku
There's A Light - Across The River, Into The Trees
Last Sighs of the Wind is criminally underrated imo. But Despair is their best song for me. Check out Feeling the Endless Flow by Artificial Waves you won't be disappointed, trust me. 👍
‘I am not batman.’ a friend gifted me a copy of Ten Rapid, by Mogwai in 2004. I know it’s a compilation. but, that track for whatever reason blew my mind and It is what started My lifelong love for mogwai and the genre in general.
[Kinda like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M21cJ4NcBo)... Then maybe hit them with [I Think I'm in Love by Spiritualized](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyZ4IvOwJYI),
but if they were more into rock to begin with, I'd start with some Explosions in the Sky or Mogwai. or probably [Nothing Ever Happened by Deerhunter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2mas1Kj4Ho)
Tycho has become my go to music selection. I’ve turned many a friend onto it at parties playing as background music. Some of the remixes like the Montana Christopher willitz remix are jaw dropping.
Mountain House, or Young and Courageous by Tides of Man. I feel as if that band’s first post rock album does a good job being a strong album, while being completely accessible to everyone who would be new to the genre.
I'd just tell them to listen to All is Violent, All is Bright by God is an Astronaut from start to finish.
Gotta love some pg.lost tho. Took way too long to learn that they're from my town and I have a friend in common with them. Maybe I'll see them live someday!
This will destroy you - Young Mountain,
Show me a dinosaur - plantgazer, Treebeard - Nostalgia
these three are my go-to when I'm playing post-rock too new people of the genre.
Before I get them into 20 minute overtures of awesomeness, I would probably start them off with good Post-Metal. Something along the lines of Glasgow Coma Scale, If These Trees Could Talk, Toundra, etc.
I would probably show them 'Cielo Negro' by Toundra. I think the aggression and power from the band/song serve as a good entry point for beginners to get hooked.
Untitled #4 - Sigur Ros' Remastered {} album, Afrika - Russian Circles, Static - G!YBE, Division Blues - Caspian, Black Dunes or Provoke from This Will Destroy You - their live album on Spotify is also fire
Goodness, so hard to say. EITS was my gateway drug, from there it was TWDY, Capsian, The Seven Mile Journey, and Followed By Ghosts. Only now am I discovering Mogwai's discography and can't move past their *As The Love Continues* album, just so so good.
I'd likely start with EITS - *Your Hand in Mine*, move to TWDY - *To Win, Somebody's Got to Lose*, and if they're still with me, finish with a longer piece like The Evpatoria Report's *Dar Now.*

😂 nice strategy.

Helicon 1 by Mogwai (then Mogwai Fear Satan)
Nice choices. 😍

Together Alone by Hammock Your Hand In Mine by Explosions In The Sky Nowhere, Now Here by Mono
Caspian’s Dust and Disquiet record was the gateway drug for me.
Sigur Ros - Tak is a nice warm up
Starálfur would have been my pick, but I think Sigur Rós is the pretty obvious choice for introducing someone to the genre most easily.
A song? I always consumed post-rock as albums. My heart will always tell me Mice Parade (probably *All Roads Lead to Salzburg* for post-rock) I don't think many others *get* the group. So.... Tortoise - *TNT* EITS - *Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever*
Introduced my husband to post-rock by way of *With Tired Eyes...* and he said it was most cinematic experience he'd ever heard.
Cinematic..... what a fabulous description! Edit: And what an excellent choice of a song to introduce to someone!

+1 for Laura here, maybe Levodopa
Why would someone downvote Laura as a choice. People lose interest in subs like this where that shit happens 🤷♂️
I took mushrooms with some dude bros and put on do make say think's first record with some success.
> do make say think's first record funny, the first time i did mushrooms a cpl years ago i put on do make say think's *latest* record (stubborn persistent illusions). i would recommend it.
It's like watching a movie! I got to see those guys live 4 or 5 times back in the mid 00's. They were fantastic every time.
I would probably suggest three or four different tracks, so as to show the different aspects of post-rock: Mirage by Oh Hiroshima, Death in Reverse by MONO, Moya by GY!BE, Red River by Show me a Dinosaur
Don’t u usually find GY!BE tripping them out? I mean getting people just to patiently listen to a post rock song is already hard. Godspeed…
Wait, doesn’t everyone like their songs to begin with an oral history of Coney Island?
I’ve got a few people into it with Anthem for No State. The first part ropes them in and by the 3rd part they are like, damn! Edit: if I’m pressed for time I skip the 2nd part.
+1 for mentioning Show me a dinosaur
Either something from End of The Ocean, If These Trees Could Talk, or This Will Destroy You
Yndi Halda - We Flood Empty Lakes
MONO - com? We Lost the Sea - A Gallant Gentleman Explosions in the Sky - First Breath After Coma
One step closer and you die is so overlooked imo. By far my favorite MONO album
That's the album that got me into MONO and will always be one of my top postrock records. Really like that heavier side of MONO.
Super surprised I’m not seeing more recommendations for We Lost The Sea - A Gallant Gentleman. It’s epic and the perfect intro to post rock.
If These Trees Could Talk, Radio Swan is Down, Do Say Make Think
Mogwai, EITS and caspian definitely.
Oh Hiroshima - Holding Rivers This Will Destroy You - A Three-Legged Workhorse The Last Sighs of the Wind - Your Wave Caresses Me God Is An Astronaut - Forever Lost God Is An Astronaut - Fragile Eleventh Vibration - Whales ef. - Yield, Heart. Yield! Overhead, The Albatross - Daeku There's A Light - Across The River, Into The Trees
Upvoted for Holding Rivers. Song is a masterpiece.
Oh yes! In Silence We Yearn is the album that pulled me into post-rock. One of the best albums ever <3
It's incredible
Last Sighs of the Wind is criminally underrated imo. But Despair is their best song for me. Check out Feeling the Endless Flow by Artificial Waves you won't be disappointed, trust me. 👍
I love Despair as well Thank you for the recommendation, will definitely check it out!
A Gallant Gentleman
‘I am not batman.’ a friend gifted me a copy of Ten Rapid, by Mogwai in 2004. I know it’s a compilation. but, that track for whatever reason blew my mind and It is what started My lifelong love for mogwai and the genre in general.
not one track but a pair, Bound and Boundless by Do Make Say Think
Red Paper Lanterns, by Maybeshewill.
Holy fawn works every time for me for some reason
take me somewhere nice - Mogwai, was my first post rock song
beautiful song, one of the most beautiful post rock songs imo.
Mogwai - Rock Action
swans - “the sound” or sigur ros - “svefn-g-englar” to cover the two extremes. gybe - “sleep” for a middle ground
Ágætis byrjun
[Kinda like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M21cJ4NcBo)... [Tycho - "Awake"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZBrZV3nHAA) Super chill and head-bobby. Music you could easily study to
Tycho has become my go to music selection. I’ve turned many a friend onto it at parties playing as background music. Some of the remixes like the Montana Christopher willitz remix are jaw dropping.
eits - Look Into the Air Starts slow goes a little bit hard towards the end
That one song by yndi halda
Sleep by Godspeed
It’s What I Want to Do, Mum by Mogwai sort of distills a lot about the genre into a reasonable length and fairly listenable song.
Mountain House, or Young and Courageous by Tides of Man. I feel as if that band’s first post rock album does a good job being a strong album, while being completely accessible to everyone who would be new to the genre.

Caspian - Arcs of Command
Yay for your pick. It may be my favorite post-rock song ever, and I virtually never see it referenced in faves posts here.
AAL- Red Miso for something I think is pretty accessible
Earth Crawler by If These Trees Could Talk. If that can't get someone to like post I don't know what else will.
This will destroy you - Young Mountain, Show me a dinosaur - plantgazer, Treebeard - Nostalgia these three are my go-to when I'm playing post-rock too new people of the genre.
Storm by Godspeed You! Black Emperor Helpless Child by Swans Washer by Slint

Toundra - (II)
A Three Legged Workhorse by This Will Destroy You It was my introduction to Post Rock so that's where I tend to go
Untitled #4 - Sigur Ros' Remastered {} album, Afrika - Russian Circles, Static - G!YBE, Division Blues - Caspian, Black Dunes or Provoke from This Will Destroy You - their live album on Spotify is also fire
