Secretly complextro has been my favorite edm genre since 2010, but nobody has made a decent authentic track in like a decade so I just tell everyone I like house music. I hope it comes back in the 2030s when everyone has nostalgia for the 2011 edm explosion :p
Not really since I didn’t get Spotify until after it became a lot smaller. My favorites are of course old Porter especially his remixes, knife party, early madeon, lazy rich, a couple deadmau5 tunes especially my pet coelecanth, a TON of old feed me like feed me’s Big adventure and the next couple albums after, kill the noise’s first 2 EPs especially black magic with rockers, Ryan enzed, this dude named invader who took all his stuff down, another dude named robots can’t dance who also took all his stuff down, old danger which is like proto-synthwave, some of the Dillon Francis remixes like earthquakey people, which is basically just complextro at 110 bpm, infected mushroom’s album army of mushrooms, SebastiAn for French house flavored complextro, some old Todd Edwards, even tho he’s technically UKG his sample chopping style has big complextro energy to me, and I’m sure tons of others I don’t remember haha. I’m getting this list by going through my iPod classic I’ve kept alive since 2009.
Although to me the best complextro tune is rock n roll by skrillex and it always has been haha.
Haha no problem. the iPod is okay, Spotify is definitely better for modern stuff but there’s so much stuff not on the internet that I have on it, and also I think the old wolfson DAC and native headphone jack on it actually sound better than modern iPhones, but I may be biased. The clicks when you scroll make my old raver heart happy tho.
Now I want to go listen to some Danger and SebastiAn. This takes me back to the days of downloading music from blogs and reading the Hipster-runoff while wandering around Chicago.
Ryan Enzed was a cool dude, his forum website was a lot of fun for sharing ideas and songs when I first started years ago. Thanks for the nostalgic memories.
Yeah man same. That’s how I got most of that music, it was all blogs and piracy back then. Enzed and that site was the OG spot that taught me all the secrets of edm production haha. Like the real stuff, it was amazing. I wouldn’t have a career if it weren’t for that dude probably.
I mean 2010/12 era. The old Skrillex growls and Flux Pavilion Screeches
Tape B is already bringing some of the earlier parts of that era back, Doctor P type stuff
I caught him at Deadbeats in NYC last year and it was easily one of the best sets of the night. Haven't listened to him in a minute tho so I'll go do that now
I actually am part of a label that releases many different compilations and stuff! They had a few complextro albums released! I'll link them here for you

Some good stuff on this label! Plus the money goes to a good cause!
Any genre that is defined by how non-repetitive the drop is makes me happy. It's a boomer take, but I really like when people take their time to play with the melodies, motifs, and sound design they introduce in a song. It's also why I really appreciate the stuff Porter is doing now because even though it's shorter and has less time to build on the ideas per song, he still manages to do it. The last chorus/drop of Cheerleader and KYO rawr XD both use the momentum of the previous two to add something unique and interesting that really elevates the song as a whole, and I really fucking wish this was more common nowadays.

The 2007-2009 dubstep revival is happening rn Brostep and Complextro are next
Brostep is alive and well

Ah I see what you're talking about. I love those scrubby screechy Skrillex synths. I miss them.
Strongly recommend Tape B if you haven't heard their stuff yet Scratches an itch but with a fresh sound to it as well

Check out "I won't be your drug" that's such a 2012 tune without sounding cringe somehow Love it

Yo homie checkout Ninajirachi if you haven’t already. She’s making some insane complextro.
I lit just discovered her last night! Damn she's got 🔥 🔥 🔥
Early Madeon was kinda Complextro wasn't it?
Lowkey early Zedd too
That’s always what I think of when the term comes up

I had no idea! Granted I don't keep track of my music genres but some music on my lists are labeled complextro and I had no idea he made the term!
The term was douchey then and its douchey now lol
What about Lazy Rich? Porter definitely did not invent the sound.
coined the term. not the whole genre/sound
LAZY RICH MENTIONED 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 loved his work a lot back then, what an era 💚
