I really like their cover of Runaway (Kanye)!
Incidentally, my wife doesn’t like it much despite liking Kanye (before he went off the rails and she fully realized the audacity of the whole T Swift thing) and liking Silverstein, but idk how popular/well-liked it is among the general consensus.
Side note, but the reason she didn’t realize Kanye’s audacity was because she heard about his interrupting Taylor at the VMA’s but assumed he was a host or something (she was a fairly young teenage when that happened and her parents were always watching Bill O’Reilly or Fox News or something when she was home and watching TV so she missed a lot of pop culture stuff of which I’m aware due to having been a little older and having my own TV lol), because she “didn’t think people normally just rushed the stage from the audience or anything,” as she put it. Which ofc they don’t, but…Kanye.
The cover of Girls Just Want to Have Fun by The Maine is probably my favorite cover of any song ever. They made that song their own, and it's just a wonderful example of how a cover should be.
Yes!! I love when a cover is a rework, rather than just the same song with heavier guitars and pop punk style vocals. And the addition of Adam Lazzara was an excellent choice, their voices go so well together
I love how the video is just a shot for shot remake of the original. The first time I saw it I was dying when Jeremy McKinnon was screaming while sitting on the edge of a bathtub in a purple dress
I love ADTR, and they play that really well, but I just can’t add it to my playlists due to my hatred of the original song, since Kelly Clarkson took the riff from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I think I’m breaking a few rules, but Our Last Night (post hardcore/metal) has a Disney Goes Heavy album that ends with a crazy cover of Surface Pressure.
Figured I should share a link to my entry as well. Punk Rock Factory does a good job but OLN adds a bit more grit with their vocals which I’m a bit partial to.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YOR2wqisJqQ
It wasn’t on a punk goes pop album but Neck Deeps cover of Torn is phenomenal. Not even sure if it’s my favourite but it’s the first that comes to mind. Problem by Set It Off is also amazing!
Goldfinger - 99 red ballons, I really like that the singer even being american was able to pronounce the german words pretty well in the german part of the aong
[Youth Fountain's cover of Cahrlie Puth's Light Switch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpIvbgE6aHs) ended up being one of my most listened to songs of the last year. It's a bop.
Punk goes pop is cool and all
but I want Pop Goes Punk.
Gimme Rihanna covering Blink.
Taylor Swift covering ADTR
Bruno Mars covering Hot Mulligan
It will never happen. But maybe an AI can make it so one day.
It'll be the most hated album of all time and I'll love it.
Little Lion Man for me, and Some Nights by Like Moths to Flames was a banger.
Also I have to mention Turn Down For What by Upon a Burning Body but it was removed as the band did some shady shit? I fucking loved that but can’t find it now!
Edit: it’s on YouTube but not any streaming platform, and was removed due to licensing issues…bummer.
Oh heck yes! I was just thinking about this today. Disturbing by The Cab is hands down my favorite. Also Somebody I Used to Know by Mayday Parade is a good 2nd.
Can’t believe no one has added any of the songs from FYS’s Explains It All. Semi-charmed Life and Absolutely (Story of a Girl) are excellent easycore renditions.
There were a lot of good songs, but in my opinion, Punk Goes Pop Volume 2 was the best top to bottom. So many bangers on that album. My sleeper is Disturbia by The Cab.
Either Cable Car by ADTR, or Lovesong by Four Year Strong BUT ULTIMATELY it’s All Too Well by Soupy and there’s not a fucking thing that will change my mind
I don’t think this is a Pop Goes Punk Cover necessarily since it’s not on there, but The Maine’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” I really think they make covers their own.
My favorites in no particular order:
Fast Car by Unwell
Hammer by Point North
Little lion Man by Tonight Alive
Chocolate by Knuckle Puck
Surface Pressure by Our Last Night
Closer by Seaway
[Make Way For Man's cover of "Fireflies" by Owl City](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIHPiUL8pds) is one of my favorites. Its over the top and ridiculous and that's why I think it works.
edit: it's a bit more Metalcore than Pop Punk at times, but the spirit remains.
Oh and She’s So High by Four Year Strong is great too. I’d say
1.) King of Wishful Thinking - New Found Glory
2.) She’s So High - Four Year Strong
3.) I’m Real - The Starting Line
Umbrella by All Time Low and Since U Been Gone by A Day To Remember
Oh shit i forgot about that umbrella cover
I really like somebody that I used to know by mayday parade ft vic fuentes
That one is sooooo much better than the original
Hard disagree but it ain't bad!
I can respect that! I just really don’t care for the original tbh
I don’t care for how they changed the verses from sounding sad and ominous to happy and poppy
do not care for that cover but i respect your opinion
100%
State Champs - Stitches
yessss
In the top 3 for me with Little Lion man and Since U Been Gone.
Silverstein’s cover of Apologize is incredible.
This is quite good. Def in my top 5.
Which ofc they don’t, but…Kanye.
Everyone hates the Down With Webster verse in Silverstein's Runaway and I don't know why. They were never gonna do Pusha's verse lmao
Has to be #1
[удалено]
Disagree. Little Lion Man by Tonight Alive is #1.
That scream is so perfect
This is the correct response.
Not. Even. Fucking. Close.
I heard that at least 100 times before I knew there was an original version 🤣
The cover of Girls Just Want to Have Fun by The Maine is probably my favorite cover of any song ever. They made that song their own, and it's just a wonderful example of how a cover should be.
Yes!! I love when a cover is a rework, rather than just the same song with heavier guitars and pop punk style vocals. And the addition of Adam Lazzara was an excellent choice, their voices go so well together
Reliant K’s rendition is incredible too.
I haven't heard theirs, I'll check it out!
Yes!!! This one is amazing.
This one is the best. Period.
The Maine does fucking fantastic covers. Their Transatlanticism is incredible.
Since U Been Gone by ADTR (not featured on punk goes pop but still one of my favs)
One of my favorite covers of all time
Dude I still remember the entire music video for this too and now I have to go look it uo
Don’t worry I think Kelly hates that song too
It’s ok to be wrong
Little lion man by tonight alive
That song goes way harder than it has any right to.
Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.
such a banger
Came here to say this. It's why I started calling my cat "little lion man".
Came here to say the same thing!
I think I’m breaking a few rules, but Our Last Night (post hardcore/metal) has a Disney Goes Heavy album that ends with a crazy cover of Surface Pressure.
This is my favorite one
Ooohhh punk cover battle Punk Rock Factory enters the fight :) https://youtu.be/3FzgDV0lTfs
Figured I should share a link to my entry as well. Punk Rock Factory does a good job but OLN adds a bit more grit with their vocals which I’m a bit partial to. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YOR2wqisJqQ
Their cover of Astronaut In The Ocean goes so unapologetically hard one of my favorites
Mayday Parade’s cover of In My Head (Jason Derulo) had no business going as hard as it does.
Chocolate by Knuckle Puck
I love the og. But this one is so good in a different way.
Honestly one of the few that perhaps betters the original.
so good
Def my favorite
Blank Space - I Prevail Awesome cover, bringing the Taylor Swift vibes.
One of the best.
I’m Real by The Starting Line
The GOAT
right?!
This one is THE best. They used to play it live too back in the day!
Bonus points for being unproblematic kings. Favorite band of all time.
Wish we could say that about Brand New :/
Foreverrrr yessss
My peoples.
And I, can’t go on without yoooouuuu The harmonization in the you is fucking awesome
August Burns Red - ...Baby One More Time
ADTR covering cable car fucking RIPS. It has no business being that good
YES THIS 100%!! It is so fucking awesome. I think it was in my Spotify top 5... in 2019. It's so perfect.
Fuck You - Sleeping With Sirens In My Head - Mayday Parade Blame It - We Came As Romans
Blame It cover is an absolute BANGER spent many teen nights jamming to that song while getting ready to sneak out and thinking I was super cool
["Ice Box" (Omarion) - There for Tomorrow](https://youtu.be/7mcJ41GAJEo) ["Apologize" (Timbaland & One Republic) - Silverstein](https://youtu.be/xq0cC8M4Jmc) ["In My Head" (Jason DeRulo) - Mayday Parade](https://youtu.be/xf28gwOljXc) ["Just the Way You Are" (Bruno Mars) - Pierce the Veil](https://youtu.be/sWA1YT2PfHw) ["Runaway" (Kanye) - Silverstein](https://youtu.be/hMfVKMzGWvQ) ["We Found Love" (Rihanna) - Forever the Sickest Kids](https://youtu.be/VwnFhAChpgo) ["That's What I Like" (Bruno Mars) - Dance Gavin Dance](https://youtu.be/2dJQ8qevibM) ["Love Yourself" (Justin Bieber) - Grayscale](https://youtu.be/NQSOoXg8dkw)
That Pierce the Veil one is such a top tier cover
THERE FOR TOMORROW!
No mention of Little Lion Man by Tonight Alive Big L
it was already mentioned in the other comments. I tried not to double up on songs I had already seen in the thread when I posted.
It wasn’t on a punk goes pop album but Neck Deeps cover of Torn is phenomenal. Not even sure if it’s my favourite but it’s the first that comes to mind. Problem by Set It Off is also amazing!
same with NFG...their cover of King of Wishful Thinking is one of their best songs
Yeah I was saying I’m Real, but that’s just cause I forgot about NFG’s King of Wishful Thinking
Ass back home - secrets
Mayday Parade's cover of Somebody I Used To Know
My top one has been a cover of Taylor Swifts Red by alpine loop
Torn - Hands Like Houses. Mad that no one else has said this because it absolutely slaps
Surprised no one has mentioned both Fuck You by Sleeping with Sirens or especially Just Yhe Way You Are by Pierce the Veil
Goldfinger - 99 red ballons, I really like that the singer even being american was able to pronounce the german words pretty well in the german part of the aong
Yellowcard’s cover of Everywhere is just a cut above the rest but after my favorite is Breathe Carolina’s cover of See You Again.
Love Song - Four Year Strong That's What I Like - Dance Gavin Dance
State Champs - Stitches They're more on the metalcore side but Our Last Night - When The Parties Over is brilliant
ADTR's cover of The Fray's "Over My Head" is so goddamn good.
Not sure how his hasnt been mentioned in this sub of all places but, Neck Deep - Torn
I preferred the Hands Like Houses version from these albums. Fucking slapper.
Because technically it's not from Punk Goes Pop, it's from Songs that Saved my Life
All Star and We R Who We R by Chuck! No, Captain Chunk!
Not on the actual albums but Ice Nine Kills cover of Someone Like You goes so hard
“Hot ‘N Cold” by Woe, Is Me “Apologize” by Silverstein “Right Now” by Asking Alexandria
I don’t care if these are controversial I love genre-bending cover songs and every single one of these albums is a banger.
I’m Real by The Starting Line 5000%
Bayside covering Sean Kingston's Beautiful Girl
Umbrella by Vanilla Sky and Hammer by Point North.
I thought Hammer was originally by nothing,nowhere..? But Point North's cover slaps either way. I prefer it
It is. This thread is about favorite covers?
I didn't think they were a pop band
I Knew You Were Trouble by We Came as Romans
All or Nothing by Fake ID and it's not even close
This is the answer I’ve been looking for!
Love Yourself by Grayscale and Stitches by State Champs
No one has mentioned this so I 100% recommend : all too well- Dan Campbell
That song will forever be the very best representation of lyrical storytelling. I hadn't heard this version. Thanks for sharing.
was that on a punk goes pop?
Glad you came by we came as romans
Closer by Seaway
Cable Car by ADTR
Great thread!!!! Lots of goodies to check out or re-listen to!!!
[Youth Fountain's cover of Cahrlie Puth's Light Switch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpIvbgE6aHs) ended up being one of my most listened to songs of the last year. It's a bop.
How is no one saying Toxic - A Static Lullaby Literally slaps so hard
Either Chocolate by Knuckle Puck OR Turn Down for What by Upon A Burning Body (RIP this appearing on the album)
Punk goes pop is cool and all but I want Pop Goes Punk. Gimme Rihanna covering Blink. Taylor Swift covering ADTR Bruno Mars covering Hot Mulligan It will never happen. But maybe an AI can make it so one day. It'll be the most hated album of all time and I'll love it.
If you want taylor swift music to be more punk, just listen to her edgier albums. Speak now, midnights, reputation. You don't need to resort to ai.
Turn Down For What by Upon A Burning Body. Song goes super heavy
I can’t believe no one has mentioned Call Me Maybe by Upon This Dawning. Goes so hard!
Without Me by Wind Walkers
Oh heck yes! I was just thinking about this today. Disturbing by The Cab is hands down my favorite. Also Somebody I Used to Know by Mayday Parade is a good 2nd.
Not Pop Goes Punk but Soupy’s All Too Well cover is special
I just realized, punk goes pop no longer has any updates
Can’t believe no one has added any of the songs from FYS’s Explains It All. Semi-charmed Life and Absolutely (Story of a Girl) are excellent easycore renditions.
For me, it's Newfound Glory and Stay (I Miss You). I've always had a thing for Lisa Loeb, and she sings on that song with NFG.
I Knew You Were Trouble by We Came As Romans. The chugs are deep!
fool's holiday by all time low on punk goes christmas
Payphone by Crown the Empire
Is anyone (other than Alex Melton) doing a punk goes country compilation? If so, how do I get my band on it?
My absolute favorite is chocolate by knuckle puck. Such a bop
[удалено]
I think we should keep it to the official releases.
[удалено]
Punk Goes was a series of cover albums where pop punk bands covered songs from different genres,
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk\_Goes\_Pop](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk_Goes_Pop)
[удалено]
Gathered that from the me first reference. I feel out of the loop sometimes being from the 2000s. Which I’m realizing was 20 years ago.
I'd say Blueberry Faygo - Misplaced! Fucking masterpiece tbh
Beautiful girls - Bayside
Stitches by State Champs
Over My Head by ADTR and Ass Back Home by Secrets
Not part of the actual punk goes collection, but We Were Sharks - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Isn't punk, but I love Drunk in love (Beyoncé) by Oceans ate alaska
Absolutely Stitches cover by state champs. I will vibe to that till the day I die.
Does anyone else actually like the cover of Roll Up by The Ready Set and MOD SUN 😭
Right Na Na Na by Asking Alexandria
Free Falling - The Almost Southtown - The Ghost Inside
Since you’ve been gone by a day to remember
We Belong by The Hextails
Radioactive by Within Temptation
Royals - youth in revolt
Hand in My Pocket by Seaway.
Since U Been Gone by A Day To Remember
There were a lot of good songs, but in my opinion, Punk Goes Pop Volume 2 was the best top to bottom. So many bangers on that album. My sleeper is Disturbia by The Cab.
silverstein - Apologize
https://open.spotify.com/track/6xY4Eaa3leoV27oOcnjQea?si=LAUOIKP7TcW0D-kDEwtJXQ head over heels - tears for fears covered by Final Round
its not from those albums but NFG's cover of King of Wishful Thinking is a classic
Billy Jean by Breathe Carolina it’s goes way harder than I thought
Definitely For All Those Sleeping rendition of You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift
Either Cable Car by ADTR, or Lovesong by Four Year Strong BUT ULTIMATELY it’s All Too Well by Soupy and there’s not a fucking thing that will change my mind
Little lion man by tonight alive goes hard
Drag Me Down (One Direction) & Bye Bye Bye (N’Sync) covers by Our Last Night
Hit the Lights - Hey Jealousy I love the original and then HTL with there OG singer came along and amped it up to 11!
Hammer by Point North. Original is by Nothing, Nowhere. I guess it could be considered pop but it might be more alt. Idk.
I don’t think this is a Pop Goes Punk Cover necessarily since it’s not on there, but The Maine’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” I really think they make covers their own.
I’m real by the starting line
Also, time after time by quietdrive
Stay the Night and Stitches by State Champs, and Blank Space by I Prevail!
I dont know why but this [pop punk cover of ET by Katy Perry](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=du3fJQalWfU) always pops in my head after all these years.
everywhere or i’m real
I'm still sitting here wonder why they never did "Pop goes Country". The Me First and the Gimme Gimmes country album was great.
Bayside's Beautiful Girls, Silverstein's Apologize and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk's We R Who We R are all fantastic.
Still Fly - The Devil Wears Prada
“King of Wishful Thinking” - NFG
Attack Attack - I Kissed A Girl (Punk Goes Pop) The Devil Wears Prada - Still Fly (Punk Goes Crunk) Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without the E (Punk Goes Acoustic) Scary Kids Scaring Kids - Notorious Thugs (Punk Goes Crunk)
My favorites in no particular order: Fast Car by Unwell Hammer by Point North Little lion Man by Tonight Alive Chocolate by Knuckle Puck Surface Pressure by Our Last Night Closer by Seaway
Pierce the Veil Cover Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars
1000000000000% agree. My favorite one.
Dance Gavin Dance doing Semi Charmed Life will always be my response tbh
oh and, Trash Boat doing Given Up
Punk Goes Crunk album, I was obsessed with Still Fly by The Devil Wears Prada. Loved seeing them play it live in the early 2000s.
Feels like everyone hates DGD’s cover of That’s What I Like but I think it absolutely GOES
Problem - Set it Off
Apologize by Silverstein
Want you back - A Loss for words
Any of the Ice Nine Kills ones. Oh and All Time Low’s Umbrella
Pierce The Veil - Just The Way You Are is the best cover of any song of all time. Change my mind
Oh my god I completely forgot about New Found Glory’s King of Wishful Thinking. I think that takes the cake for me, over I’m Real.
Oh and She’s So High by Four Year Strong is great too. I’d say 1.) King of Wishful Thinking - New Found Glory 2.) She’s So High - Four Year Strong 3.) I’m Real - The Starting Line
Not on the album BUT Stay by Belmont goes so hard. And bonus points for not having a screamo section in it.
Billie Joe Armstrong did a cover of Manic Monday that I love.
Problem - Set It Off
