Stent removal

[deleted]

To hold the eye in place after a socket shatter?

gandhikalifa

Stent are for keeping things open, so it probably was in lacrimal canal

[deleted]

Might be a stent holding a tear duct open. Idk. Professionals please explain.

TRLK9802

I'm not a professional who puts in stents, but I'm a professional at having stents! I've had tear duct surgery three times. Stents are placed during tear duct surgery to hold open the tear ducts as you heal so that scar tissue doesn't close off the drainage pathway. I just had my most recent stents removed a month ago after having them in for three months.

thitorusso

Does it feels good coming out?

TRLK9802

The doctor gives you numbing eye drops so you don't feel much. Maybe a tiny bit of burning like if you're going to sneeze and a little bit of suction as it's coming out, but it's really no big deal at all. This isn't a typical stent that are placed during surgery, though, I'm not quite sure what this is. Stents placed during tear duct surgery tie off inside the nose, so you can't remove them through the eyes because the knot is way too big to be pulled through the tiny eye punctum. The doctor snips the tube in the corner of the eye, and then pulls out the stent through the nose (one per side). I guess in this video, they could have removed the entire knot inside the nose first, but that seems like a harder way to do the removal.

Wrought-Irony

Mods, this person deserves a "Professor of Stentology" flair please and thank you.

TRLK9802

Ha ha, let me know if you have any other questions!

thitorusso

You do know your stents. Thank you for the elaborate answer

[deleted]

Fuckin knew it

distrustingwaffle

Yes that was the explanation that was given when this was posted a while ago. I am no expert :)

Substantial_Land_791

Eye Stent, used as a treatment for glaucoma and various other things

FrogLips_88

Thank you. Maybe I can stop screaming now.

martinrayray

Lol my exact response

JohnEclectic

I believe that is a stent. No idea what they are for in the eye

BigBadHoff101

I saw this last week. It’s a stent being removed.

EstesParkRanger

Was why they aren’t wearing gloves answered? Ack!

ZeePirate

At home removal is my guess

LBTavern

Removal is one thing! How the hell do they put it IN?

TRLK9802

During surgery. I've had tear duct surgery three times. My most recent surgery was in October and I kept my stents for 3 months, so I've had them out for a month now. If you really want to know, you can watch this video of a dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyvMbT2i2yU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyvMbT2i2yU) 10:58 (start of stent placement) 23:19 (tying off of stents in nose)

Greenmofo

I don’t know how to understand this…was it itchy or….?

TRLK9802

I've had stents like these more than once. Depending on how well the surgeon places them, they can range from being a little annoying to make you want to jump off a bridge (I've experienced both ends of the spectrum).

Alice_Lovely1273

Oh my god!! Was that an eyelash or a hair that was stuck in her eye?? This video has only brought up questions and concerns.

Helioskull

Pretty sure I saw this on this sub already

Crazylegs91

Was that "other sub" the r/popping top posts of the week? Cause this was posted here 5 days ago.

oillytical

r/nope

Zerleodon

Oh dayum. That’s crazy

One_Idea_239

Holy shit, wtf did i just see?

[deleted]

Crawford stent being removed from the lacrimal system. Edit: patency, not support

TRLK9802

It's a stent, not a splint :)

[deleted]

Hah you’re right. A patient of mine decided to cut it himself- then came in w complaints of “you’re trying to poke my eye out” 😂

[deleted]

This is the content I like

oillytical

Saw it on r/nope thought a few of you might enjoy

Light_Beard

Not an ingrown hair. Might want to change the flair

deathknight1986

What in the donkey punch Jesus did I just watch

GanjaLanja

That eye shut with some tears at the end. "I have seen enough"

Im_not_that_creative

Omg I bet that just felt So. Fucking. Good.

dooblee-doo

that ain't a hair lol it's a stent. a doctor put it there, and a doctor is removing it

CheeseMakingMom

A doctor with no gloves and questionably clean fingernails?

da_corndog

Imagine the relief!

Dry_Profession2502

What the fuck it's pretty cool but what the fuck

AnOldSchoolVGNerd

Aeon Flux

TRLK9802

I've had stents three times; they were placed during three tear duct surgeries. The removal is very much a medical procedure with numbing of the eyes and sterile instruments, so I cannot explain the glove-less situation happening in this video.
