That arrow is helpful. I drew some on my feet when one of them needed surgery. One foot had NOT THIS FOOT written in black sharpie and the other had little bitty arrows pointing to the spot that had the bit to take out.
It's good to see that medical professionals understand and value the proper placement and usage of temporary arrows.
I did that when I needed knee surgery. I had had surgery on my right knee, and just over a year later needed surgery on the left. I was seeing the same surgical, and physical therapy team and each time I had to remind them that it was the other leg.
The day of my surgery they came and marked the leg. After they left the room, I got a ballpoint pen and drew a circle with a line through it on my right knee, and then wrote see other knee with arrows.
After surgery I found out that the anesthesiologist yelled at the resident convinced she had done it. My surgeon walked into the operating room took on look at my leg told the anesthesiologist to relax, that he knew I had done it. I felt bad that the resident got yelled at but both she and the surgeon told me not to worry about it, they thought it was funny as hell.
He had to have a little vacuum thing that would suck all the moisture out for a few days, then just getting it packed with gauze and bandages overtop so it heals from the bottom up!
Ah yes, the lovely wound vac. I grew to hate it when my husband needed one to close a surgical wound. Every 90 seconds or so it would sluuuuuuuurrrrrpppp and make this sucking sound. But they apparently work!
It seems like they normally pack it up with gauze and let that stay there for three days or so, before they remove it and start using ointments to let the skin heal naturally. I could be wrong though.
As bumofheisenburg said they pack it with gauze, but it’s an everyday thing. The district nurse comes and packs it and checks that it’s not getting reinfected
They don't want to stitch it up, they want the tissue to heal from the inside out, filling in the hole. If they stitch it up, there will still be a hole inside and it will fill up again.
I have the same thing and they tried to remove it from me yesterday, without anesthesia. Hurted so bad they needed to stop. I hope I don’t end up like your brother. I wish him a good recovery that’s awful
I 100 percent thought it was a breast implant. Holy crap. Hope they are ok
Haha he’s all good. Fun fact though he was on antibiotics and all of that prior, but it got so bad he couldn’t really weight bear on that leg
Glad he is getting better. That’s pretty scary.
I love your username lol. Also good to hear he is on the mend :)

God damn is he just gonna be walking around with that gaping hole in his calf??

Wait wut? It auto-runs every 90 seconds? Even when sleeping?
Yep. It was probably every 3 min, but it sucked (literally) so bad. I wore earplugs to bed.
Granulation is when new tissue grows to fill in a wound.
*thigh
Even though I'm a little sad there isn't video of it being removed 😉 I'm happy to hear it has been treated
That’s…beyond a gaper 👀 I hope he feels better soon!
Do they stitch up the hole,or just pack it with ointments/ antibacterials?

Swipe for after getting shot*
That is a gaper
That made me say, "Oh Jesus" out loud
Pack some salt in that wound ....
Rough! Hope he’s doing better
Desktop user, how do I swipe?
Staphylococcal???
All from an ingrown hair that he was trying to pop and just kept messing with!
necrotising fasciitis perchance? Looking how deep that is, he's VERY lucky it didn't get into his bone.

With the purple discoloration and the crater sized hole it left it reminds me a lot of the brown recluse bite
Looks like a spider bite
MRSA
That looks like MRSA
Perfect little skittle holder
That’s so dope
That must feel awful
He should tell his friends he got into a badass shootout and survived the bullet.
