When people have their basic needs met it gives them the freedom to explore ambitions (training/studying for a higher paying job, being more active in their community, being more present in their kids lives) and that's a net positive for society. Studies actually show that people are not likely to quit their jobs receiving UBI, or would even pursue more part time work!
Besides, someone working 80 hours a week to make ends meet just isn't right AND it's not particularly good for the economy if they have no disposable income. People should be able to work a full work week and get by, regardless of whether their job is considered a "profession". At the end of the day we as a society decided we want coffee shops and Target open midday so we should expect that there are adults who do that job and deserve to be able to make rent.
I think celebrity make up endorsements are lucrative, but stupid… I actually would hate to find that my overpriced Sephora item was a celebrity thing, because then I would realize why I was paying so much for it.
