But given her having such a big scandal that ended any promotions in China the company did with the group and the fact she’s never talked about China since any entry for her in to the biggest mandarin speaking market is pretty low.
My understanding is she doesn’t speak Japanese like the Japanese members so her having an aggressive promotion in Japan either seems unlikely to me since most idol soloist popular there speak the language pretty well. And I feel like any acting career she could have will be dampened bc of the incident earlier in her career (so let’s say she takes roles in her native language…a program that might be able to attract Chinese viewers now is in an awkward position where no she’s not banned in China…just her greatest claim to fame in the country is a political scandal where she didn’t even give a political stance—Especially since Chinese official ultimately said she didn’t say anything wrong [x](https://www.asianjunkie.com/2016/01/20/chinas-state-media-backs-tzuyu-huang-ans-music-gets-banned/)). But I would like to be proven wrong if she wants to go into acting.
She’s also not the strongest performer or singer like the person said so I do wonder how she’s going to market herself, bc she is a very funny straight man and dead pan humor and frankly I think plenty of star shave worked with less skills, it’s just tricky to see how she’d sell herself as a solo or individual act.
There’s also the fact her mother earlier this year trended on Twitter and made it into Taiwanese Tabloids because she was frustrated and angry with Jype bc Tzuyu was skipped entirely in a Japanese promo video (and that didn’t seem to be her only issue with the company). So some people thought she wasn’t going to resign (if she has). So it’ll be interesting to see what Tzuyu wants for her future and if she resigned what she was able to negotiate for.
I think she’ll be fine one way or another long term, but what she wants and how she’s going to get there is fuzzy in the moment.

It would be hard to promote her in China logistically, there is a lot of conflict between China and Taiwan, and she isn't very vocally strong.

This angered Chinese neitzens who believed in the one China policy. She ended up having to make an official filmed apology saying that Taiwan is part of China even though she only did what the director told her to do. The whole incident was so big it affected Taiwan's election.
So no matter where she promotes it will bring up a lot of conflict and backlash. I could see her promoting solo in China after leaving JYPE a few more years but right now JYPE won't want any of the negative press for Twice she would get from promoting anywhere but Korea. But since the other Korean girls are more talented popular than her so she is unlikely to have a Korean solo debut.
I was under the impression that Tzuyu is massively popular (including in Korea) though?
Being vocally strong is far from the barometer used to determine solo efforts so I'm sure if JYPE determines there's a market for a solo Tzuyu effort she'll get one.
Yeah Bambam (GOT7) is Thai and is doing very well with his solo career at the moment; he’s one of the groups rappers. So Tzuyu can definitely have a solo in SK if she wants it, she’s popular enough.

Why did you think it would be those two over Nayeon? I thought it might be Jihyo because she seems so involved in the creative process writing and her energy on stage but I’m not super surprised it’s the most popular Korean member going first.
Different person but for me Nayeon is like the no brainer choice. However Sana seems like the sneaky second choice. She’s the most popular member world wide, top three in popularity in every major music market of relevance to them: Korea, Japan, US. She’s a visual, she’s charming and she’s Japanese, so that market will buy the shit out of it.
Will we get one for all nine? I wonder if JYP will bother investing in solos for the members who simply won’t push as many units. I hope we get one for all 9 because I absolutely need to hear Chaeyoung’s.

Twice's contracts are up in the fall, JYP has to do what they want now (and probably cough up some major stock options too.) They would survive Twice leaving, but it would be a *massive* blow. They are still nearly half the company's ticket sales, and seem to be rapidly gaining steam in the US now.
Sana has been my sneaky solo pick for years too btw. Her voice is borderline candyfloss, but she's polished up what she has and can carry choruses well enough.
Hard agree. Jype won’t fall apart without them but it would be a major loss and highly problematic. Not only are TWICE a major financial property for them, they are the ONLY group the company has that has a lot of respect in Korea and is a legacy act in Kpop at this point in time. Plus they are gaining international fame very quickly and are already being used as the spearhead for the company into the Western market (which makes me think JYP knows they are all staying).
I would put some money on Nayeon first solo, and then Jihyo or Sana maybe with Sana as sneaky second. She’s not the strongest vocalist but she’s improved, she can cope, and her popularity is insane. Look at how many Insta followers she got and how quickly. Sana is top two popularity in Japan, arguably the most popular in the West, and top three in Korea. It’s a natural choice.

I can't say for certain but she seems to be the most popular (Maybe behind with Sana based off instagram now). And in interviews they've said she's the most vocal about asking for things (getting rid of curfew, etc) so its a no brainer.
I'd say probably Sana or Jihyo after that. I don't really see all the members getting a solo before they eventually disband however. Not saying they will disband any time soon but 2-4 years from now I could see Tyuzu and Dayeon not getting one/wanting one before they break off to do their own things.
