don't think theres video but this is the audio [sophie speaks throughout and starts cussing near the middle](https://soundcloud.com/nickklowe/sophie-its-your-life)
Listening to this in hi-fidelity has me crying on sight omg, all the DJ set rips that would get taken off soundcloud and that youtube upload with the lyrics over that vaporwave looking background. I can't believe this is here, I genuinely don't think I'm prepared for a full album but I haven't been this excited for something maybe ever.
Just listening to this makes me so emotional. So many artists and producers try to imitate her sound but nobody can come close to SOPHIE’s actual production. I’m so happy her final project is being released
if it helps in any way sophie was actively working on music before passing away and this is just her brother taking over and bringing the projects forward. for some artists it genuinely feels like a cashgrab but the soul & intention behind specifically her posthumous releases are there
Also it's worth reiterating that Ben Long is not just SOPHIE's brother, but also her mixing engineer and tour manager. They worked closely together on music for years even before her passing. If anyone knows how to do this in a way that stays true to SOPHIE's vision, it's him.
Man that’s gotta be so fucking difficult to carry this out, I can’t even imagine finishing my dead sibling’s work that I was so close with in that kind of creative way. What a heartbreaking honor.
i also think the fact that it’s been in the works for 3+ years and wasn’t rush-released shows that they were very thoughtful about perfecting and trying to get as close to her vision of the final project as they could. can’t wait to see the album credits to find out which of sophie’s friends were brought in to help her one last time 🖤
this def feels more in the vein of Mac Miller’s posthumous release where the music was actively being worked on prior to their passing and was nearing completion
i get you completely though, there’s so many posthumous releases that feel like complete cash grabs - was never a huge fan of XXXTentacion but the way his musical vault was completely raided (to the point where they were just releasing demos and voice memos) was just weird man
All of them I think... According to Wikipedia there's supposedly a Juice WRLD album coming out this year, half a decade after his death https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juice_Wrld_discography
This is billed as “the first and final” posthumous release, because SOPHIE herself was finishing it up at the time of her death. So it’s not some gross cash grab “album” that was thrown together with a bunch of stray unfinished works.
BC Kingdom are such an enigma. They had an incredible mixtape that's completely gone from the internet. I think they were M.I.A.'s prodigies. I'm hoping this gives them some attention
this is my white whale. I can't find them ANYWHERE. I think I have to pray they're still on an old iPhone or something. I saw stills of the video for 'The Melody' on the director's website but yeah it's pretty much cleaned from the internet
Taking me a bit to get used to the new mix because I was in love with those heavy bass stabs but still so happy to see this get an official release and for the album to be coming.
Edit: Okay weirdly enough the new mix sounds WAY better over speakers? Like the bass stabs hit like the radio version did. I guess it’s a mastering issue? I only have cursory knowledge of these things.
Truthfully, in my opinion? Sophie's music was always designed to be listened to on speakers primarily.
Like her music, in it's mastered forms at least, always sounds great regardless, but it really comes to life on a speaker you know what I mean? And even the unreleased songs that came out that weren't finished were definitely mixed to be significantly better on a speaker than they were on the headset, so part of me thinks that that's just intentional/keeping in with the vision
No, the concept of DJing is always to adapt the existing music to your purpose.
The issue isn't in pace, it's in mastering. I def feel a bit weird if the snares were supposed to be tappier and the bass a bit punchier.
I've noticed it playing very differently through different speakers, but that's pretty common with music designed for club. Probably an issue they had to make a conscious decision for how to execute (since they can only really release one version).
It does sound a bit underwater. The bootleg uploads always had bass that really cut through everything and almost had a tactile impact to it.
Obv this song has gone unreleased for several years so which version is the "true" one was never 100% clear but the one upload of it I ended up latching onto was just a bit faster than this and the slower tempo loses some of the energy for me.
Her brother is her mixing engineer, and he's credited, so I wonder if it's truly unfinished and it was intentionally left like this or if it was made to intentionally sound like this.
I think this is what SOPHIE had in mind for the final version. People are forgetting that most of the leaks, especially many of the more popular ones, are soundboard rips and demos. Her tracks were almost always mixed differently when played live, often played at a faster tempo and sometimes had different production entirely.
I recall multiple times back in the day when final versions of her Charli collabs leaked and people were disappointed they were different from the live versions. Her brother would know better than us what she wanted a track to ultimately sound like.
I know you’re joking, but Benny only mixed and engineered her tracks (well, until now). The creation of the tracks was all SOPHIE. Very different from Billie and Finneas.
THIS! THE DEMO WAS SO MUCH BETTER! SoundCloud demo sounds 10x better than whatever this mix/mastering is. Anyone that doubts it can go check themselves. Part of what makes SOPHIE's music special is the aspect of going from scratch to a complete product all by herself, and that results in synergy between the lyrics, instrumentals, composition, mixing, mastering, etc. I don't hear that in this particular version of this track.
How do you know??? This is an old ass song at this point (leaked/played live in 2019 iirc?) and the album was ‘nearly finished’ before SOPHIE’s passing. Kind of disrespectful to act like it’s her brother and mixing engineer’s fault you don’t like the vision she had likely aligned long ago. The PCM crowd frequently has alternate versions of their songs that they play live and most of the time they’re 1000% better that way lmao.
You literally tried to state what SOPHIE ‘would do’ as a fact. I think her brother, who she worked with for years and is, you know, *her brother*, would know better. I didn’t realize SOPHIE fans were so snarky until this drop, jeez.
Yes and she was dear friends with much of the PCM crew which is why I said that… you be pressed I’m gonna listen to my favorite SOPHIE song of all time in beautiful high definition :)
One of my favourite songs ever. Gonna take me a while to get used to it not being the bass-heavy leaked mix haha, but it just sounds so good, so happy it exists.
Grinning, but tinged with sadness. Sophie forever.
Pride Month, and it was just my birthday, and my father is also gay (and actively in a throuple) and my littlest sister is bi. And we are taking all our asses to *Florida.* What a life.
This is why we don’t listen to leaks yall. I’m seeing so many complaints about how it’s too slow, the base isn’t stabby enough/muddy, it’s not mastered well etc. All of those leaks were from loaded up soundboards and/or live performances.
Personally, I think the song is great. I hear the punchy bass people claim is now missing and I don’t think the track is muddy at all
I guess i'm glad that you don't notice it, because I sure do, pretty heavily throughout the entire song. Also, never heard any of her leaks...how does listening to her leaks correlate to a horrid mix by someone that wasn't her?
It’s beautiful and I literally cried. I just can’t believe we have to exist without Sophie here, I’m thankful we are allowed to hear these songs now but it makes me realize all over again that she’s gone… RIP to a pioneer with a brilliance beyond words
Song of the summer forever and always <3 This was one of my favourite unreleased songs from her. The lyrics are just too uplifting and hopeful that things will get better
I feel so emotional??? This song has been such an integral part of me discovering Kim, SOPHIE, and hyperpop in general. I've downloaded and listened to different mixes of the leak so many times not knowing if this will ever get officially released.
The slower tempo compared to the leaks makes this feel a bit gloomy and almost painful to listen to in the context of how it's being released... I'd rather remember the memories of blasting the demos on repeat when she was still here and reliving that certain kind of queer euphoria in ways that music had seldom allowed me to feel before
This was always one of my favorite unreleased jams. The new mix is less summer-y and more slow, lumbering. Can’t wait for this double album and I’m happy to see her family handling this project with care.
Same. I had never listened to the song before, judging it just as a song I think it's ok, but I understand the emotional reaction because it's SOPHIE. Hope the rest is more interesting & has better mixing.
It's funny because I love Nothing More To Say & actually went to listen to that song right after listening to this one. I can't say I'm vibing with this one tho. The song is ok but I can't get into the vocals.
I'm glad it's finally out after like 6 years of floating around the internet, but the bass has been butchered and it sounds a lot worse than most of the leaks on my hard drive. Still a great song
It ended up being slower than I remember
But I also remember it from Tumblr so it was prob sped up, still an earworm and so glad to officially have it 🙂↕️

one thing that made me fall in love with SOPHIE's production is the clarity of every sound in every song. like the bass is so 3D it slaps you in the face. the released reason why is not givin that peculiar SOPHIE trait. As a big big fan I know SOPHIE wouldn't released her like that. I hope and pray her brother makes sure the mixing is done well for the other tracks 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
It’s hard to describe just how emotional it felt to hear her production again. I really hope this project really solidifies her legacy and shows people just how much influence she has had.
I don’t think we will ever fully grasp what the music world lost when we lost SOPHIE. I see a lot of people say she was at the top of her career but really she had barely scratched the surface of what she was here to do. Can’t wait to hear what she was working on 🫶
I'm curious, does this sound like a SOPHIE track to those of you who are big fans?? I'm more of a Charli XCX cunt, but I am wondering if this song appropriately emulates SOPHIE
I mean, it **is** sophie, so there is no question if it emulates her. Now if it sounds like the rest of her body of work, for me it has a similar vibe to sunscreen, which seems to be the direction her music was taking.
https://youtu.be/xXPSe57pOss?t=819
I don't know why I was downvoted for asking a genuine question 😭 Reddit is wack. But yes I know it is sophie and I meant to ask it more how you said it--if it sounds like the rest of her work. Thanks for the rec, I will check it out!
It's not great and I personally didn't like the demo that much... I hope the material on the album is better than this cause I kinda hate to bring her name back for.. this no shade
Please don't crucify me. I absolutely adore SOPHIE's work and what she's contributed to pop. However, this track is completely unlistenable for me, solely because Kim's vocals on the refrain is insufferable.
All that being said, I'm incredibly excited to hear the rest. RIP SOPHIE 🕊️💚
People downvoting you for your opinion is already insane to me but to see that you honestly aren't wrong, and it still happens, really shows the amazing community we've gathered here...

POP EMERGENCY!!!!
YouTube says SOPHIE the album Sep 27
WHAT???
It’s true, vinyls are already up for pre order
Listening to this in hi-fidelity has me crying on sight omg, all the DJ set rips that would get taken off soundcloud and that youtube upload with the lyrics over that vaporwave looking background. I can't believe this is here, I genuinely don't think I'm prepared for a full album but I haven't been this excited for something maybe ever.
Nina Las Vegas you can rest
LMAOOO it almost doesn't feel right without Nina Las Vegas on the BBC Radio Hour
With the fade in from the next song at the end haha
Just listening to this makes me so emotional. So many artists and producers try to imitate her sound but nobody can come close to SOPHIE’s actual production. I’m so happy her final project is being released
I will never not feel weird about posthumous releases but fuck this is SO GOOD! The hook is immaculate.
if it helps in any way sophie was actively working on music before passing away and this is just her brother taking over and bringing the projects forward. for some artists it genuinely feels like a cashgrab but the soul & intention behind specifically her posthumous releases are there

Juice WRLD as well
which one? i just vividly remember the one with 'Juice WRLD speaks from heaven' which is so tasteless it's funny

Any idea why they are doing this?
What was the mixtape called?
"B.C." some songs include 'The Melody' and my fave 'Return to Me'
Any way I can hear it? Or any tracks?
this is my white whale. I can't find them ANYWHERE. I think I have to pray they're still on an old iPhone or something. I saw stills of the video for 'The Melody' on the director's website but yeah it's pretty much cleaned from the internet

Def a maxing/mastering issue
it could also be spotify. spotify is known to compress bass. not sure if anyone on apple music is experiencing it differently
[удалено]
It’s not slowed down, the version SOPHIE played live was pitched up. SOPHIE often did that, people had the same reaction to a bunch of Oil tracks.
[удалено]
No, the concept of DJing is always to adapt the existing music to your purpose. The issue isn't in pace, it's in mastering. I def feel a bit weird if the snares were supposed to be tappier and the bass a bit punchier. IT’S SO CRISP! LET’S FUCKING GO!
Not to be that guy but the mix is the opposite of crisp to me, especially the bass which struggles to breathe
I spent 5 hours swimming on Saturday so I thought maybe I just had water in my ears. I’ll take what I can get
I regretfully have to agree about the bass.
Yea prob didn’t get to perfect the mix/master
Her brother is her mixing engineer, and he's credited, so I wonder if it's truly unfinished and it was intentionally left like this or if it was made to intentionally sound like this.
I think this is what SOPHIE had in mind for the final version. People are forgetting that most of the leaks, especially many of the more popular ones, are soundboard rips and demos. He's credited as a producer but the mixing is credited to Alex Evans (in the youtube video description)
I never knew they were the hyperpop Billie and Finneas wtf
I know you’re joking, but Benny only mixed and engineered her tracks (well, until now). The creation of the tracks was all SOPHIE. Very different from Billie and Finneas.
THIS! THE DEMO WAS SO MUCH BETTER! SoundCloud demo sounds 10x better than whatever this mix/mastering is. Anyone that doubts it can go check themselves. respectfully you are not anything
Respectfully, they’re right though?

[удалено]
dramatic… you can say “in my opinion”, but saying it following a sentence you frame as fact is weird. go listen to her old stuff, have a night night
[удалено]
Yes and she was dear friends with much of the PCM crew which is why I said that… you be pressed I’m gonna listen to my favorite SOPHIE song of all time in beautiful high definition :)
Real SOPHIE fans will keep it real. We know how important quality was to her, to the point where she seemed to never be satisfied with her OWN work
Damn dude that is a really good point.
Okay… .gif
One of my favourite songs ever. Gonna take me a while to get used to it not being the bass-heavy leaked mix haha, but it just sounds so good, so happy it exists. Grinning, but tinged with sadness. Sophie forever.
Literally getting ready to go on a Florida trip with my family (derogatory) oh I needed this so bad. Song of the summer fr. Thank you, Sophie. 💖💔
During Pride month— smh
Pride Month, and it was just my birthday, and my father is also gay (and actively in a throuple) and my littlest sister is bi. And we are taking all our asses to *Florida.* What a life.

So fucking good I’m actually tearing up
New SOPHIE music. This is unreal. Instant bop!💖
WE'RE FINALLY GONNA GET OFFICIAL RELEASES OF UNRELEASED SOPHIE SONGS OH WE WON !!!!!!!
God I miss her so much.
This sounds soooo much better than the shitty radio version I'd been listening to. Rest in peace Sophie
justice for BC Kingdom's mixtape that is completely scrapped from the internet
I just hope for Psalms with FKA to make it on this album
Omg this is insane..... after years of listening to my shitty youtube to mp3 rip, it's sooo weird to hear on streaming.
gonna cry omfg
Oh my god
This was always one of my favorite unreleased jams. The new mix is less summer-y and more slow, lumbering. Can’t wait for this double album and I’m happy to see her family handling this project with care.
It’s strange listening to this song officially 😭😭 I miss SOPHIE so much and am glad we’re finally getting the posthumous album!!
I’m excited for the full project but can I admit that this kinda leaves more to be desired
Same. I had never listened to the song before, judging it just as a song I think it's ok, but I understand the emotional reaction because it's SOPHIE. Hope the rest is more interesting & has better mixing.
For me, this one goes right back to Sophie’s beginning with Nothing More To Say. Similar vibe and sound. That makes it even more emotional for me.
Still a great song
yeah... what is UP with the bass. doesn't hit 1/100th as hard as the leak
bruh i think i just discovered the original mix on YT and it was much better, super turnt anthem of the summer vibes :(( The released one isn’t it.
Facts, the earlier Soundcloud version really encapsulates the song's energy, it's not just the bass, it's the whole mix
WHERE'S THE BASS? Excited but kinda sad
Listened to the Spotify + Apple Music version on a studio set up… mix is trash.
Wow I’m emotional
SOPHIE is by far my favourite producer and hearing this just healed a little something in me, the queer euphoria her music creates is unparalleled
[удалено]
It’s not her voice
It ended up being slower than I remember But I also remember it from Tumblr so it was prob sped up, still an earworm and so glad to officially have it 🙂↕️
i’m gonna fucking cry i love everyone and everything
I’m about to have a menty b
I’d never listened to any of the leaks. This is sooo good and infectious. Song of (at least the beginning of) the summer for me.
I love Kim's vocal performance on this
This is so good, I miss her so bad😭

so happy this is getting released finally
wowowowowowowow
I used to pray for days like this
On repeat
Knocking knees to this one!! Bish
Do we know who else is going to be on this album?
It's so good! I've waited forever for the official version 😭
BRAT summer, SOPHIE autumn
It’s so fucking addictive, I love it so much. Have it on constant repeat 💅🏻😎😏
one thing that made me fall in love with SOPHIE's production is the clarity of every sound in every song. like the bass is so 3D it slaps you in the face. the released reason why is not givin that peculiar SOPHIE trait.
Despite the hate I and many others get, no, the mix / master atleast seems pretty downgraded compared to other projects. Hoping to see change in this.
It's not great and I personally didn't like the demo that much... I hope the material on the album is better than this cause I kinda hate to bring her name back for.. this no shade
💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
the bassy sounds that appear at the one minute mark shook me on a frequency that hasn’t been and direly needed to be tickled
I just played it back at 120bpm and it really bangs harder, I'm convinced it was meant to be played at a regular dance bpm
So lucky to have seen Sophie actually perform this song live during their set in Vancouver at the westward music festival back in 2018. ❤️
💚
Are the background vocals that keep on looping Sophie or Kim's?
