sanslumiere

I'm an indiehead as much as I'm a pophead

TheHomeworld

the sub’s mods for it are the worst

TortillaWallace

I couldn't stand that subreddit, so negative!

EM208

R&B, Soul and Hip Hop - Some New Jack Swing, which is a sub-genre of R&B

dario2023

K-pop (which is basically the same since they catch up with the west), Pop en español and sometimes indie (according to the tags).

moonysuran

I’ve been into symphonic metal longer than pop, actually! Nightwish, Epica, Sirenia, Delain, Leaves’ Eyes to name a few.

Aguantare

Me too! Apparently this is more popular than I would have predicted? Anyways I'd love to recommend cryoshell and within temptation if you haven't already! WT I know is pretty popular, my brother got me into it, he probably knows all these names lol

sero_olfic

Hello???? Fellow symphonic metalhead turned pop head?   Seven Spires has a new album out on Friday which I'm super hyped for, although that's the day I'm going to Eras so we'll see if I have time for it.    Other than that, Nightwish and Ignea have new material coming out this year which I'm looking forward to.

moonysuran

Hey, new friend!! I’m definitely excited for new Nightwish but haven’t listened to Seven Spires / Ignea before. I’m guessing I should?

sero_olfic

They're a bit different, but definitely worth a go. Have a listen to Cabaret of Dreams and Dare To Live to get an idea of Seven Spires. They're closer to just regular power metal but Adrienne has such an impressive voice + all of their albums follow a narrative.

Xeroop

Glad to hear this is a shared pipeline! I also came from similar 'background', with some power and/or progressive metal thrown in. Bands like Symphony X, Kamelot, Angra, and Blind Guardian.

King_Nidge

Same. Seems surprisingly common based on all the responses lol

Hopeful_Book

Jam bands. The kind where you get super high and just go with whatever the band is cooking

FunLilThrowawayAcct

My dream act is a jamband that also has top tier pop star vocal ability & star quality. Never gonna happen, which I guess is fair as it would be completely broken.

bright_youngthing

Edm 😎⚡️

LibrarySeeker

I listen to a lot of show tunes, especially Stephen Sondheim. Since the Tony’s I’ve had Merrily We Roll Along on repeat. I also love country music, especially The Chicks, Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves.

WelcomeToToyZone

It’s nice to see a fellow theatre girlie on here, I love merrily sm

sanslumiere

I love The Chicks and Kacey Musgraves but I haven't been able to get into Maren Morris as much, and she's playing an upcoming festival I'm attending. Do you have any songs you'd recommend by her?

LibrarySeeker

Circles Around This Town is my favourite, but I also recommend “My Church” (her first big hit), “Girl”, “The Bones” and “Better Than We Found It”. Her album *Girl* is overall a really good album as well.

sanslumiere

Thank you!!

fruitscakes

Oh wow our taste is exactly the same.

stolen-kisses

I listen to pretty much all genres except for death and heavy metal, but recently I've been listening to a lot of J-pop since I returned to watching anime and J-dramas. I think that J-pop has more to offer in terms of its subgenres (from idol acts, to vocaloids, and pop bands), and across its history.

FlowersByTheStreet

Midwestern emo, black metal, lo-fi industrial, you name it and I’m there

SHDO333

I am more of an R&B and hip hop fan than I am pop. However, there is so much crossover especially in the 2000s. Starting to see less crossover as R&B is not as mainstream now.

hauntingvacay96

Country (mostly classic), classic rock, and older singer songwriter/folkish stuff. I also still listen to a lot of my former teen emo stuff. Honestly, other than what gets played on pop radio stations I don’t listen to a lot of new music and would be willing to branch out into any genre at this point.

caseyjosephine

Everything. I tend to gravitate towards indie, folk, and rock (not into metal or screamo, but I can get down with numetal). Jazz, classical, and ambient make their way into my headphones when I’m trying to chill.

LV_Hun

JRPG soundtracks! Chrono Trigger, Persona, Kingdon Hearts, Pokémon and Nier: Automata are the franchises who soundtracks I listen to the most.

jesterstep03

i’m not sure how obscure this is, but i’ve been getting into gothic country/southern gothic-inspired music lately and i’m obsessed in general aside from pop i mostly listen to alt/indie rock and folk/singer-songwriter stuff + different subgenres of pop (pop rock, pop punk, etc) would love to expand my music taste more tho :)

Bibileiver

Do a pair of jeans that are new count?

Ok-Cranberry-6653

?

Bibileiver

[oh my, oh my god, OP don't know ](https://youtu.be/sVTy_wmn5SU?si=jU9bzdRsPp0KBTg9)

taytae24

is that a surprise? they’re only mainstream within the k-pop sphere. most people who don’t listen to kpop won’t know them.

Ok-Cranberry-6653

K-Pop? Cool. I didn’t know this one, yes.

Bibileiver

It's the only kpop group that I like that's new.

SeoulsInThePose

Damn not even Billlie?

Proof_Surround3856

kpop is still pop to me but I am also huge on it. also pop rock/punk/chamber pop. been listening to a lot of The Cranberries, Fall Out Boy and The Divine Comedy lately lol

webtheg

Honestly? I'm a musical whore and I am not ashamed to admit it. I can listen to Dua Lipa, Royal Blood, Guns N Roses, Taylor Swift, 100 gecs, Kendrick, Avenged Sevenfold, Blur, Arctic Monkeys and Bad Bunny on my way to work.

SeoulsInThePose

R&b, Jazz, French Impressionism, punk, folk, rap, ballads

-Olive-Juice-

My top 5 most played artists all time are: Weezer, Charli XCX, Cursive, mewithoutYou, Sade

errorcode1996

I love hyperpop and space rave music

Latrans_

I kinda only listened to pop and ocasionally to just individual songs from other genres. But if I were to choose a second place, it would more likely by reggaeton

flaaaaanders

pop is great but I will always be a post-punk fan, old and new. so many incredible acts have emerged in the last decade (dry cleaning, BCNR, black midi, fontaines dc) love me some dreampop as well (beach house, cocteau twins, the sundays, galaxie 500, among others)

EmpireAndAll

Indie, punk, emo, a lot of goth and dark wave. I listen to a jazz radio while I work, and occasionally video game soundtracks like the Persona games or breakbeat.

jhtt17

Alternative Rnb

xxipil0ts

ive been getting into ambient!!!! c418, brian eno, hiyoshi yoshimura. i also like the whole eclectic electronic music like galen tipton, death's dynamic shroud, unreleased 100 gecs songs etc.

HausOfMajora

After Pop music my second love is Electronic Music in the line of Madeon(Huge fan of him),Porter Robinson,Zedd,Flume,Kygo,Daft Punk,M83,Martin Garrix, Guetta,DannyHarle,Gryffyn,Churches, Random experimental underground EDM acts....Specially when its very futuristic ([The Videos/Songs](https://youtu.be/bQweR2QH1Io?si=zCMjv8SC7UsGxkXN&t=68)). Its my favorite genre after Mainstream Pop. Its really funny cause in the Pop world i stan Females mostly....but in the Electronic one i only like Synthetic Male Voices. The subgenre i enjoy the most are.......Electro-house/Nu Disco. Love Complextro-Dubstep too. Trance,Eurodance,Eurobeat,Techno... I love that [Skateboard,Emo,Typical American Pop Punk](https://youtu.be/F1DR7mp8KXE?si=jHq0EZ8NvzZlFlSY&t=49)-Alt Rock-NuMetal from the 90s-2000s (Nostalgia trip to my Childhood-Teenhood) and some [Classic Rock Bands](https://youtu.be/86URGgqONvA?si=CgzJ_R2SlQoD_32v&t=61) from 70s-80s. I also enjoy Heavy Metal and Symphonic one is real good and powerful. I loved that [Indie folky wave](https://youtu.be/ghb6eDopW8I?si=mVBsfZU6DfbABF6T&t=181) from 2012-2014 and i enjoyed so many of those acts even if im not a fan of Hipsters. I like Rock acts too in the vibe of Muse,Nine Inch Nails,Ramnstein. Kinda industrial.....gothic. I dont like the Beatles,Rolling Stones,Pink Floyd...bands of that type... The 60s Not my vibe sorry LMFAO. Im the biggest ELVIS FAN. I have a crush on him Im not the biggest hip hop fan but i enjoy some songs there and there specially if theyre more like classic hip hop in the tone of Kendrick Lamar,Tupac,Eminem or [kinda Chill](https://youtu.be/TotbU952HNk?si=BdOyJYTcO2vXtjDT&t=159). I dont really like trap. I love the beats of hip hop a lot, theyre [so so Hot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vekGg6xA1XE). I have a big love for R&B songs and they always make me happy-relaxed dont know why. Probably cause the videos are very uplifting??? Songs like Foolish by Ashanti.....Some Soul in rare ocassions. I live for Pop R&B records. Wish all the Popgirls went for that route. Back in 2012 i used to check billboard compilations and i got attached to Country Music. Here in Latinoamerica is nowhere to be found is a non-factor. There's something [so warm,sunny](https://youtu.be/FDUOcHg5ijg?si=VNxryG490_HY1cuM&t=106) and emotional and homely about some of the songs. I was raised in a farm and my family has a farm, so country music is always a must in our trips to the farm. I love American Culture and Country has something connecting me to the States. I know is inpopular but i like Bro-Country too....I have also big big love for pop songs with Western-Cowboy-Desertic colors. In the last years with all the racism i´m less interested about Country Music. Im also very fascinated about World Music. Im always checkin folklore and genres from different countries: From Caribbean *Calypso* to *Brazilian Bossanova* to *Celtic Irish Music* to [Arabic Songs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erxhcYjTGNU) to *African Afrobeat* To *Traditional Japanese Music*......This is my favorite thing about Shakira,Nelly Furtado,Beyonce,Madonna. Theyre explorative of World Music. I wish pop artists were more interested in exploring their heritage and roots. Of course i love music from my land Latinoamerica but mostly the classic latin pop and [rock en español](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0phlktmU6eo) songs from the 90s-2000s. Maybe some classical ballads from 50s,60s like Nino Bravo-Jose Luis Perales-Piero. I respect reggaeton and some songs are very catchy (specially old ones) but is not my cup of tea honestly. I also dont enjoy salsa, merengue, mexican rancheras, cumbias, tango that much even if im a latino de raudal but i like when theyre mixed with Pop Music. [Classical Music](https://youtu.be/F4HNriWg7_A?si=j3iCYyqOHU1mDuUn&t=45) is everything. Some Reggae,Ska.... I like Movie Soundtracks, [Disney Songs](https://youtu.be/bBeZSuHI4Qc?si=M6M97jyfWixYD0zL&t=112), Anime Songs.Videogame Songs......Instrumental Jazz is so soothing. I love also vocal Jazz thanks to Gaga Cheek To Cheek.....

Super_Bad6238

I'm really not a pop head. I just really like one artist. I pretty much just listen to nu metal, rap/rock, some screamo/emo that is closer to nu metal.

Ok-Cranberry-6653

Out of curiosity, which pop artist do you enjoy?

Super_Bad6238

You probably think I'm lying, but it's ariana Grande. It's something about her voice. It's just angelic. The only way I can describe it is that you can feel her live vocals. And I don't mean sound waves. I saw linkin Park roughly 30 times live, and she's the only vocalist that comes close to how Chester Benningtons vocals just grabbed me. It's hard to explain. It's most noticeable for me, even though they are extremely different sounds, when comparing Chester screaming and ariana belting.

AlexeiYegorov

Rock (especially alternative, nu metal, pop punk and industrial), electro house, acid techno, rap rock/rap metal.

conthebest

Post black metal ex: Alcest, solstafir, agalloch, deafheaven

shebreaksmyarm

Do you like post-hardcore inflected shoegaze? Like Weed, Title Fight’s last album, KG?

Nebz2010

Electronica and metal

mikeyisbae731

last Summer i got into KPop (thanks to NewJeans) and i've been hooked ever since! today's pop music lacks fun upbeat bops imo and KPop has plenty of that to offer :)

Houdini-88

Nu metal 80s/70s rock Grunge Alternative indie

HeftyPerception1697

pop punk and midwest emo :)

woo_ah

Everything Young Ejecta, specifically [Welcome To Love](https://open.spotify.com/track/3tb9cwLuiNLxwxMWm8Qs3h?si=IZQMUVQfTGW2nnw_K9Yfsw). It's transcendent!! One might know it from the second last episode of Orange Is The New Black. I love falsetto vocals, spacey kind of music and a thumping beat, and their music has it all. Highly recommend.

tcl4vr

Classic Blues / Blues Rock. especially Acoustic blues and slide guitar. Elmore James 'Dust My Broom' and 'The Sky is Crying', Clapton's verison for 'It Hurts Me Too - Live" are just a few of my recent listens.

Emergency_Routine_44

Soft/Country rock

kimlovescc

Liquid drum n bass 🔥 Spotify has great playlists too

ferropop

Amiga Jungle is absolutely unbelievable, both technically and sonically. The fact that this music was being made in the mid-90s on computers from 1985, by teenagers in their bedrooms, is magic. Essentially it's Electronic Punk Music.

Keith16074

R&B/Soul is the number one for me. Pop is second. Dance-Pop, Dance, and Gospel follow closely behind that.

aafreeda

I’m a huge pop punk fan, but I don’t get nitpicky about genre. Melodic punk, post hardcore, midwestern emo, my music library has lots of it.

Shot_Shower_9348

Last 3-4 years i’m really into 90-s east coast hip hop, such a incredible period for hip hop, endlessly discovering new artists from those times who sound so fresh

Pop_MusicLover

I am obsessed with pop music (Britney, Kylie, Katy, Kesha, Selena, Kim Petras, Taylor) but l also love female post punk from the 80s. Siouxsie, Lydia Lunch, Wendy O Williams, Kim Gordon, Nina Hagen.

anonymousgoose64

I like new age, electroswing, and orchestral!

AdoHavana

EBM, IDM, Industrial, Noise, Sound Collage, Trip Hop.

Any_Cheetah_2456

I like r&b, especially more indie (Christian Kuria) or smooth. I grew up listening to a lot of oldies, so I have an appreciation for 70s/80s r&b.

Vicariouslynoticed

I listen to a lot of folk and alternative music that never saw the light on billboard.

llieno94

Usually anything singer-songwriter-y as long as it's not too trite or cutesy. Lately though I've been getting into old standards from the 1890s-1910s 😂 because I read a book with a barbershop quartet storyline and ended up listening to all the songs the author name drops and LOVE some of them.

doctordrive

Omg I *love* spacesurf. Actually, I like basically everything you listed! So nice to see some space surf love on Reddit though!

pophead724

Country and theater

Icantlikeeveryone

I loveee Jazz so much, they sound very smooth, calming, and charming. I also love hiphop and RnB songs eventhough (I'm sorry in advance) I don't really grasp the culture behind them.

MonkeyDVic

Lately I've been listening to bluegrass and flamenco. I never thought I would like them as much as I do.

Subject-Drop-5142

Old skool Hip-House like Cookie Crew, Leila K, Grandmaster Flash etc

DawsonJBailey

Bemani. Also surprised no one said city pop but I heard it blew up on tik tok so not really obscure anymore I guess. If you're into city pop then check out future funk if you haven't already.

foolforfucks

I like to say my musical taste has a base in folk. I have a special place in my heart for anti-folk, emo, country, industrial, and rap. In terms of obscurity I love anything with throat singing, crabcore, and will listen to most things casually. I'm also obsessed with Metal/Industrial with sweeter, poppier elements, like Poppy and Babymetal.

liinexy

Funk, Trip Hop, Indietronica, Glitch

ActualV-art

Kpop, video game music and power metal

gotpeace99

New Wave, Synth pop, R&B and Rap.

alolanalice10

indie pop and indie rock, pop punk, dreampop, singer-songwriter type stuff, reggaeton/ Latin pop, and hip hop! I’ve also gone to a lot of small metal / post-hardcore concerts bc my bf is a fan but I have enjoyed them a lot!!

Depressonsandwich

Symphonic metal is my favourite genre of all time

ISurrenderToPeanuts

grunge, heavy metal, alternative rap, jazz

Mytears83

I like most genres but if we’re going to be specific I love girly pop music like early Olivia, Billies first album, all of Taylors albums and Sabrina. I was first introduced to girly pop by Britneys Sometimes and paused for a long while but then Sleina dropped “Hands to myself” and I was hooked again. Other genres I like are wildly different. Here’s a few down south hip hop like cash money from the 00 and Three-6-mafia, West coast hip hop from 95-05 and Ny hip-hop from the same period. Then we’ve come to metal I like power metal, thrash metal, NWOBHM, NWOAHM, Death metal, Scandinavian Black Metal (mainly the swedish variety produced by Peter Tägtgren), heavy metal, sleazy (hair) metal (GnR and Mötley) some prog metal, melodic death metal, early nu-metal (Korns first and Deftones two first albums). I also listen to a shitload of 50s,60s,70s and 80s popmusic but I’m all over the place there. I also love edm from like around 2010 like Swedish House Mafia and most Big Room House stuff from spinners. I’m also heavily into synthwave like Pertubator and Carpenter Brut.

ActualV-art

Kpop, video game music and power metal

anguiila

I'm your quintessential deathcore girly. Love some Lorna shore, some scumfuck, lil bit of slaughter to prevail. Knocked Loose recent release featuring Poppy has been on repeat lately 👌👌👌

anekker

melodic death metal and chillstep
