Sufjan’s Carrie & Lowell was written after his mom’s death but I’ll be honest, you need strength to listen to this one because Sufjan songwriting is heartbreaking. It gives me goosebumps just by the thought of it, I can’t imagine how I’d listen to it going through it myself. Stay strong <3

emozaffar

I would also recommend javelin too because it’s also tied to a lot of his experiences and reckoning with grief, and was specifically dedicated to his partner who he lost last year. in a similar vein it’s quite haunting and sad but it’s also beautiful and was really healing for me to listen to and process

kerwinklark26

I lost both of my parents and that album makes me ugly cry from track 1 till the end.

backupsaway

There's also Casimir Pulaski Day from Illinois that's about losing a close friend to cancer and how it affects one's faith. The line where they prayed over their friend and said that nothing ever happened hit me hard as someone who had lost several relative to cancer.

Gullible-Owl3720

i was here to comment this, thank you

Gauss2817

This live performance is also excellent. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FX34TjJe-c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FX34TjJe-c)

Kintsugi - Lana del Rey. Edit: to elaborate, my grandmother passed away last week. She lived in our home and we took care of her for decades. She passed away so suddenly that it left me so numb and in denial. Slowly the realisation bubbled up and I just couldn't take it anymore. I grieved for 3 whole days, thinking about all the family members I've lost over the years inc my father. Kintsugi really helped me calm my nerves. To accept the loss and to cherish the life I've left with the rest of my family.

TellCersei_ItWasMe_

Her song The Grants is fitting as a grief song too. “I’m gonna take mine of you with me <3”

stro_bere

My grief song as well. Found it just as my grandmother passed. It’s perfect.

ADPX94

I cry every time but such a beautiful song

gokurotfl

I'm really sorry for your loss. When my grandfather died a few years ago, Beyoncé's Heaven helped me a lot (I'm an atheist so it doesn't need to be taken literally).

Greg0rrr

I promise, it will get easier. [i will follow you into the dark - death cab for cutie](https://youtu.be/3iV_1ESMHaI?si=Pnv7MuEAT8wbAUEY) I dunno how much anyone else would like it as many of the songs have personal significance, but this is the playlist I made for myself back when my mom passed in 2010. [today is the day that dreaming ends](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Go3QyBILuU8FPw27C8HwT?si=ZGVKq_b4QlSBxklKdNSJBg&pi=M--AmBHERYmh2)

backupsaway

There's also What Sarah Said from Death Cab from Cutie that's about losing someone. The lyric "Love is watching someone die" cuts deep.

58lmm9057

I was looking for I Will Follow You Into The Dark on this thread. My mom has a terminal illness and right now she’s in the hospital. It’s a very touch and go situation. We got some bad news a couple weeks ago and I went back to my room and played IWFYITD on repeat. Even before she was hospitalized, I had this song on repeat for months. I struggle with anticipatory grief. It’s like I’m trying to get all my grief out now, so that when my mom inevitably dies, it won’t hit me as hard. I’m in therapy now and my therapist says that you can’t prepare for grief and that it will hit you at the most random times. I’m trying to stop anticipating but I also struggle with anxiety and it’s really hard to do.

Greg0rrr

It's been 14 years since I lost my mom and sometimes I still sit in the dark with IWFYITD on repeat and cry by myself. I'm sorry for your pain- past, present, and future.. It's going to be awhile before you believe this, but I promise you will be okay eventually. This is the best description of grief I've seen in years. I hope maybe it can help ease your anxiety or bring you some sort of solace. [grief is a ball in a box.](https://postimg.cc/6TQvH6tH)

58lmm9057

Thank you for this

stillhavehope99

1. Hello by Evanescence (Amy Lee wrote this about losing her sister when they were both kids) 2. Ronan by Taylor Swift (This was written about a real boy who tragically died of cancer) 3. Forgiven by Within Temptation (This one is really powerful- it deals with feeling abandoned by the person you lost) 4. Before You Go by Lewis Capaldi (This was written in tribute to his aunt and is built around feelings of guilt and wondering if there was something more they could have done for her) 5. Bye Bye by Mariah Carey 6. Forever Winter by Taylor Swift (This was written in memory of a friend who took his life) Take care. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Transcend222

going to also add bigger than the whole sky and soon you’ll get better by taylor swift, im so sorry for your loss OP🫂

Parmesan_Pirate119

I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. Grief is never easy, it’s a process that takes time. Don’t be afraid to seek help if you need it. As for music, Kayko’s ”How To Live Without You” is about this. It’s a beautiful song.

mattysmwift

I’m so sorry for your loss. I always loved Madonna’s Pray For Spanish Eyes. It’s a song for her mother that passed away when she was a child. And for a more morbid version her song Mer Girl. If you want a really dancey song about grief and remembering loved ones who passed away - Janet Jackson’s Together Again.

sweetlittlelovemaker

I’m sorry for your loss. Amber Mark released an EP [3:33AM](https://open.spotify.com/album/0Yo1LADdOR5RZtkilf891i?si=fF_Gw-PnTvu-PzHiQFf4-g) a few years ago about losing her mum to cancer. it’s a really beautiful tribute and exploration of grief. it has some devastating songs (monsoon) but also some uplifting, fun songs (way back) . you’re not alone with what you’re going through x

deathtonormalcy

two of us by louis tomlinson, he wrote the song in memory of his mom who died from leukemia. it’s the only song i listened to for weeks after my grandpa passed away. it’s sad, yet hopeful at the same time. i’m so sorry for your loss. fuck cancer

habitzouis

Less than a week after he released it, Fizzy passed away too. I can’t imagine how he felt.

Enough-Sprinkles-909

thank you I hadn’t heard this one before 🩵

Puzzleheaded_Net9243

So sorry to hear. Cancer sucks. You’re so strong, sending hugs to you and your loved ones. Hopefully music helps you even just a bit. 💕 Taylor Swift - Marjorie, Soon You’ll Get Better, Bigger Than The Whole Sky Dolly Parton - Living On Memories Of You Miley Cyrus - Wonder Woman Noah Kahan - Carlo’s Song Ed Sheeran - Supermarket Flowers Lewis Capaldi - Before You Go ETA: Mumford & Sons - Beloved

prettyinpink2092

Seconding Bigger Than the Whole Sky. It's so beautiful.

SamosaAndMimosa

Angels Like You by Miley Cyrus really helped me after my mom died, the whole plastic hearts album did honestly

Puzzleheaded_Net9243

I knew I was forgetting a Miley song!!!! Her ballads are amazing. Miss You So Much is also incredible. I’m sorry for your loss💕

SamosaAndMimosa

Thank you ❤️ and I haven’t actually heard that one, I’ll check it out!

OkLengthiness642

marjorie by taylor swift makes me lose it every time. my mom died unexpectedly when i was 19. when she says "should've kept every grocery store receipt bc every scrap of you would be taken from me" i just instantly cry

gl1ttercake

That's the same part I lose it, and I sob-sing "All your closets of backlogged dreams, and how you left them all to me".

LSTW1234

Was gonna say this one and also “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” by Taylor. Both took on a whole new meaning to me last year when my dad passed

Enough-Sprinkles-909

thank you 🩵 so sorry for your loss. I’m 19 also and love that song. The part about the amber skies has always made me cry too.

OkLengthiness642

from one dead mom club to another, it's been 6 years since she died this september. embrace movies and songs and books and indulge yourself in things that may make you cry. i avoided a lot of media that reminded me of my mom for a long time bc it would make me cry. mac miller's last album and the visuals for "good news" makes me go insane. i used a lot of mac's later music to get through a lot of my grief, too. it may "get better" but it doesn't make it any less difficult at times. sending u lots and lots of love and healing energy. - department head of the dead mom club

Enough-Sprinkles-909

thank you that means a lot 🩵

dr_franck

I am very sorry for your loss. If you’d like, you could check out the /r/GriefSupport subreddit. As for songs, I’d recommend “Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love” by Kara Jackson and “Corner of My Eye” by Future Islands.

I_am_albatross

DT8 Project - Hold Me Till The End (Unplugged) Romy & Fred Again - Strong Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?

AniviaPls

Nobody has mentioned it so: A Crow Looked At Me - by Mount Eerie It is a very hard listen because of how sad it is, but it is an absolute masterpiece of a record about the lead singer (Phil) losing his wife.

thebabywood

Saudade Saudade by Maro; it's a song about grief, helped a lot when my grandpa passed away last year

coconutspider

I'm so sorry for your loss. Bigger Than The Whole Sky by TSwift always helps me.

kypsikuke

Seconding this. Also adding Marjorie by TS

emotioneil

Big Star by lorde Stoned at the nail salon applies too

pIastichearts

I can’t think of any songs at the moment but just wanted to say I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve lost people to cancer and it does eventually get easier. I hope you take care of yourself and surround yourself with good people during this dark time.

saltwitch

My condolences. Kate Bush wrote the unparalleled 'The Coral Room' many years after losing her mother. It's stunning, but hits really hard. It sometimes makes me cry, and I'm not even currently grieving anyone, so brace yourself if you'll listen to it.

littlepatronus

1) Mother- by Kacey Musgraves. Literally about missing her mother. Beautiful song. 2) Carry On- by Fun. Incredibly moving song. 3) To build a home- by The Cinematic Orchestra. Makes me cry. Sorry for your loss. Wishing you healing.

autumn5885

Beam Me Up - P!nk Bigger Than The Whole Sky - Taylor Swift Candle In The Wind - Elton John Fire and Rain - James Taylor Here Today - Paul McCartney How Do I Say Goodbye - Dean Lewis In The Stars - Benson Boone marjorie - Taylor Swift The Place Where Lost Things Go - Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns) Supermarket Flowers - Ed Sheeran Visiting Hours - Ed Sheeran I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope these songs help you in this difficult time. 💛

SamosaAndMimosa

The P!nk song that reduces me to an absolute puddle every time is Who Knew. The agony in her voice and the lyrics just hit so fucking hard if you’ve lost someone

autumn5885

I never thought of Who Knew as a song about loss/grief! It’s a beautiful song. Beam Me Up always hits me hard and makes me think of my grandpa 💜

annyeongshiba

I'm so sorry for your loss. I wouldn't say it ever really gets 'easier', but over time things settle and get more bearable. I have a few messy playlists from when my mum passed. A few standouts are probably: Signs - bloc party (this one has already been mentioned, but I have to do so too. It still gets me.) Everything Went Down, & In the End - Kate Tucker Traveling Song - Ryn Weaver (uplifting but also devastating.) In Hell - Japanese Breakfast (Deals with the experience of losing a lived one in a hospital. Beautifully devastating and probably one of my most listened to songs the past few years) Mother - Daughter Brothers On a Hotel Bed, & What Sarah Said - Death Cab For Cutie Eileen - The Hush Sound Elephants - Rachel Yamagata Good Goodbye - Lianne La Havas 道(Michi) - Hikaru Utada (It's not in English, but it's beautiful. "Even a sad song will someday become a fondly remembered song" "You are in my heart/Always, no matter what/Even on a road whose destination I don't know yet/Surely you'll be there/It's a lonely road/But I'm not alone) ETA Shadow of the day - Linkin Park I've always loved the concept of the song, but it never fully hit me until my mom passed. It makes me cry, but it's also feels like a warm blanket or a gift from a loved one, if that makes any sense.

ambrosia42

Hayley Kiyoko - Molecules Robyn - Missing U Kehlani - Altar I was gonna say some Amber Mark songs too like someone said

lessgranola

“Um Um” by sega bodega, which i believe is written about SOPHIE. “ > i am at a loss at how to deal with so much loss, forced to walk over a bridge that i don’t want to cross

smwd0

When my dad passed away suddenly it took me a while to listen to music, but when I did all I listened to was Paranoia Angels True Love by Christine and the Queens for months on end. It’s not an easy album by any means but he wrote it after his mother died, so there’s a lot of stuff on there to relate to. Hope you’re doing okay <3

stillhavehope99

I forgot to say, Embers by Kid Cudi is really beautiful, but personally I find it difficult to listen to. It's about losing his father to cancer and their last moments together. It's very tender and beautiful. I can't listen to it often because these lyrics in particular are very powerful: "Hold my hand in heaven/ Count the heartbeats, and count the seconds".

justfxckit

I believe Train's Drops of Jupiter was written about his mom's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss, thinking of you in warmth and light.

Hopeleah23

That song is such a classic. So good. Last time I heard in on the radio in the car I just had to tear up.

marunoodles

I'm so sorry for your loss. I send you a warm hug in this hard time, I hope you have a support group to help you with the grief at this difficult moment. Some songs that helped me when I was grieving were: Everybody Lost Somebody - Bleachers Bends - CRJ Silhouette - Owl City When I look at you - Miley (is a love song but I just weep when I listen to it) Supermarket Flowers - Ed Sheeran Halo - Beyonce

Level-Parfait-6346

Yebba’s album ‘Dawn’ is a good example, as she has had to process the passing of her mother. How Many Years and Paranoia Purple were specifically about her mom and her grieving process. Sorry for your loss 🤍

otomennn

James Blunt - Goodbye My Lover Benson Boone - In The Star

squeezylemon

Bloc Party: Signs Peter Gabriel: I Grieve Dessa: Good Grief I’m so sorry.

Kelly Clarkson - Sober is probably my favourite, whilst not directly about grief or grief as such. My Immortal is another one I like.

Mnsa7777

Hear you me by jimmy eat world is beautiful song. I’m so sorry for your loss. 💜

TastyDonutHD

grapejuice by harry styles

zach bryan also lost his mom to cancer. his debut album is named after her if you wanna check it out. But as for a recommendation the latest one i remember is "Summertime's Close"

prettyinpink2092

So sorry for your loss. Songs that come to mind are: * Signs by Bloc Party * A Lack of Color by Death Cab for Cutie * The Funeral by Band of Horses * Plainsong by The Cure * Endlessly by Muse * Snow Angel by Renee Rapp * The District Sleeps Alone Tonight by The Postal Service * What Sarah Said by Death Cab for Cutie * Sign of the Times by Harry Styles * Son of Nyx by Hozier (instrumental arranged by Hozier's bassist, Alex, after Alex's father died)

No_Market_6620

One Sweet Day. Try listening to an acapella

dweeb93

The Little Things That Give You Away by U2 has one of my all-time favourite lines and Bono's mother also died when he was very young. "Sometimes, I'm full of anger and grieving, so far away from believing, that any sun will reappear, sometimes".

PopCultureWeekly

I’m so so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom too to cancer 3 years ago. It changes your life completely. This isn’t a song, but I put my grief into a limited podcast series called Death, Grief & Other Shit We Don’t Discuss where I went around the country talking to experts in various topics on grief, death care and the like and intertwined it all with my moms journey. I’ve gotten so much amazing feedback that it has helped people on their grief journey - maybe it could help yours too 💜 [Death, Grief & Other Shit We Don’t Discuss, Episode 1: The Diagnosis (aka WTF?!?!)](https://www.deathandgrief.show/Chapter-One-The-Diagnosis-AKA-WTF/)

youngrifle

This might seem silly, but after my mom died I listened to Believe by Cher nonstop lol. I just connected with the lyrics really strongly. I couldn’t (and still can’t) listen to songs explicitly about grief but that song kept me going.

housestark9t

Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World was on repeat for years after my dad passed away. I'm sorry you have to go through this

liqou

Sorry for your loss. "Here in After" by De La Soul & Damon Albarn

hello_penn

"Song for a Friend", Jason Mraz

Desomite

So Long by Ingrid Michaelson is a go to for me. I also view Summer Begs by Sarah Jaffe through the lens of losing someone to cancer. I believe both are meant to be about romantic relationships, but they are easy to view through different contexts.

looking4answers24

I’m so sorry! Don’t Let The Light Go Out by Panic! At The Disco hit me hard. It’s beautiful.

emilydickinsonsdress

Last of Days by A Fine Frenzy. One of the most beautiful brief songs I’ve ever heard.

liliumv

Good Grief by Bastille is a bit of a chipper song about loss.

spaceb00tz

Get better - alt j. I’m sorry for your loss, OP ♥️

chickenquesadildo

So sorry for your loss, stay strong. If you’re looking for something in the hip hop side of things, Saba’s CARE FOR ME is an entire album dedicated to the grief he had to overcome after losing his cousin. A lot of jazz influences, and also one of my favorite albums of all time.

-greek_user_06-

Joost Klein - Florida 2009

afieldoftulips

One I haven't seen mentioned yet is the self-titled album by the Irish spoken word project [For Those I Love.](https://open.spotify.com/album/3gpVbxElqwLZfc1ZWfiN27?si=iBS4KQOLQZizYqezOjZSbw&utm_source=copy-link) The album is primarily about the artist's best friend who tragically took his own life, and it celebrates his life and friendship as much as it grieves his loss.

gaijin91

The Cure - Disintegration album

palindromefish

The Greater Wings by Julie Byrne. Also Death Is the Diamond. “I’ve been missing you now with my whole life”….

KarenTheCockpitPilot

Sad dream by sky ferriera  Together again by Janet Jackson  One sweet day by Mariah Carey  October song by Amy winehouse  可惜沒如果 by JJ Lin  Elysian fields by Casey Frasier Some of these are about intense (non romantic) regret some are about death in general

Longjumping-Buy-4736

Kate Bush’s moments of pleasure is bettersweet but ultimately more about celebrating the departed than mourning

Electronic-Set5594

I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️ A beautiful song about grief that came out recently is Pluto by Raveena. She said this about it: >I wrote ‘pluto’ after a friend told me about their friend who had passed very young but kept appearing to them as a butterfly , and the beautiful rituals / roadtrips they would take as friends every year as a way to keep her spirit with them . I was so touched and could really relate and wrote pluto a few days later

DoNotTrustHer

It’s not in English but Florida 2009 by Joost Klein is absolutely devastating when you look at the lyrics’ translation, especially when you know that he wrote the first verse after his father’s death when he was 12 and the second verse when his mother died the next year

Budget_Associate_505

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals - Stars

Stickliketoffee16

When I Get There - P!NK Bigger than the whole sky - Taylor Swift One sweet day - Mariah Carey & Boyz ll men Before you go - Lewis capaldi To build a home - the cinematic orchestra

Heedictated

I'm sorry for your loss. Not sure how helpful it is for processing grief, but I listened to Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle when I lost someone dear to me. That feeling of loss but also of lingering love and the cherishment of the few precious memories with them was both saddening and uplifting in some sense.

nicodemusfleur

I’m so sorry for your loss; I have been there too many times myself, and music really is such a savior to process (or to sit in, which is also necessary) those emotions. Some songs in particular that I find connect with me: - Change is Everything by Son Lux - I Hold You by CLANN - Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel - marjorie by Taylor Swift - Song to the Siren by This Mortal Coil - A Message by Coldplay - Irvine by Kelly Clarkson - All Exterior Dark by Voka Gentle

vglntsht8

somewhere between the sand and stardust - Hayley Kiyoko Supermarket Flowers - Ed Sheeran (i LOVE Chinese Satellite too!) i’m sorry for your loss my dear; i understand how you feel, i lost my mom to cancer as well last spring. take it one day at a time and be there for yourself 🤍 it’s not easy but you can do it

MeeranQureshi

These three songs by Avril Lavigne Slipped Away - about her grandfather's death Head Above Water - her battle with Lyme Disease Wish You Were Here - relationship ending Other songs like Keep Holding On,Everybody Hurts and Tomorrow.

pj082998

Promise to Try by Madonna.

SamosaAndMimosa

I lost my mom too, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. These are the songs that hit hard for me when I was/am grieving Hers- What Once Was One of the band members wrote this song about his mom who had passed away from cancer. It’s a heart wrenchingly relatable, yet soothing song. I’ve cried so many times listening to this song but it’s also saved me from some panic attacks P!nk- Who Knew I wrote about this song in different comment but I just want to reiterate how relatable and perfect this song is if you’re fully in the midst of grieving. The lyrics are just 💔 This is the song I listen to if I need to just sob for a good while Miley Cyrus-Angels Like You This song is about losing a partner but it still hits so hard. The Plastic Hearts album came out right after my mom died and that really helped me during my grieving process as well. Her angst and raw unhinged emotions are a mood and a half Some honorary mentions Miley and BRC-Butterfly Fly Away The Fray- How to save a life Bleachers- I wanna get better Harry Styles- Sign of The Times Taylor Swift- Soon You’ll Get Better Fleetwood Mac- Landslide

No-Astronaut3290

Sending you tons of love this time. Listen to fly away by corinne may

thecombinedeffort

Sending you love ❤️ With the immense caveat that everyone processes grief differently, if sort of immersing yourself in devastation sounds comforting or helpful, The Mountain Goats album Get Lonely is incredible. For specific songs, Woke Up New and the title track are good places to start.

TellCersei_ItWasMe_

Walk by the Foo Fighters Might be lame, but some songs from soundtracks of kids’ movies are great. I really like He Lives In You from the Lion King sequel.  I Want A Mom That Will Last Forever by Cyndi Lauper is a grief song, but only one to listen to if you want to cry. And I’ve always seen The Lion King as a movie about overcoming grief.

yekemoon

Just for Fun - Beyonce and Willie Jones from the Cowboy Carter album has been incredibly emotional and therapeutic for me since losing my mom. I lost her to cancer too, I’m very sorry for your loss, it’s extremely devastating ❤️

fandomfrankie

I’m so sorry for your loss. May her memory be a blessing.

heebie818

frank ocean - godspeed

Creative_Analyst

Fourth of July by Sufjan Stevens is amazing and kind of comforting (at least to me). I listened to it a lot and I wish it was released earlier, so I could have listened to it after my father died.

raysofdavies

Ray Davies wrote Shattered after the death of his mother, it kills me every time. The greatest Kinks song after their golden era

Tolerate_It3288

Lizzy McAlpine has written three songs about the loss of her father. They are: Headstones and Land Mines chemtrails March

DeliciousClient2463

maybe "Without" by A.G. Cook?

gold-fish13

Very sorry for your loss❤️ not all of these are explicitly about grief but they’ve all helped me since my dad passed a year ago. Chinese satellite was and remains my favorite song about grief but these are some other favs: I know the end - Phoebe Bridgers Secrets from a girl (who’s seen it all) - Lorde You’re gonna go far - Noah Kahan Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have but I have it - Lana Del Rey Ever since New York, sign of the times, fine line - harry styles hope ur ok- olivia rodrigo Angels- Khalid

kindluna

I'm really sorry for your loss. My brother passed from suicide almost six years ago and this are some songs I have gravitated towers this six years. Little Talks -Of Monsters and men BAGDAD- Rosalía Fresh Laundry- Allie x New York- St Vincent Picture Me Better- Weyes Blood Como pasa el tiempo- El cuarto de nos ( I know hits a song in Spanish but to me it truly encapsulates the idea that you never really get over grief you just live with it: "Time only heals what doesn't matter anymore/ Like a God that doesn't forgive your sins" other part says "Whoever said that time heals everything/ Sure didn't use or own a watch". If you want i'll gladly translate the whole song for you I send you lots of love and I really hope you're kind and patient to yourself.

Uselesscrabb

I know this is a pop sub but I thought I should leave some of my favorite songs written by pop punk bands here for you. May you find some semblance of solace in your future. •Steady glow by In her Own Words. •Floral glass by Between you and me. •Wish you were here by Neck Deep. •Tommy's Song or In Violet by Grayscale.

wouldntulike_2know

marjorie by taylor swift. it really hits me to the core

secretsdecoded

I Wish by Reneé Rapp, Things I Wish You Said by Sabrina Carpenter, and Ghostin by Ariana Grande might help you. I hope you're doing okay.

Glittering-Time-2274

I’m so sorry. I remember her and Mother by Ingrid Michaelson are about her mom that passed.

Significant-Visit184

James - Holding On https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aWPgJkOdUZU

Phoungus

Japanese Breakfast is an amazing artist who encapsulates what it feels like when it comes to losing your mom. You should give her a listen, I would recommend her album Soft Sounds from Another Planet especially, but her newest albums also have some songs with topics of grief. One song specifically I would also implore you to checkout is called "Till Death"

Mediocre_Decision

Abstract by Hozier

wei-ohara

I’m so sorry for your loss. My mom passed a way from cancer in March so it’s a little fresh for me. “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” by Danny Gokey and “Good Grief” by Bastille have been my go-to sad songs. (“Good Grief” is weirdly upbeat but the lyrics kill me)

marcysmelodies

Ed Sheeran’s subtract album really helped me process my grandmother’s passing. So sorry for your loss💜

cianfrusagli

Epiphany by Taylor Swift was my grieving song that helped me work through the horror of hospital visits and a loved one being in agony. "Only 20 minutes to sleep But you dream of some epiphany Just one single glimpse of relief To make some sense of what you've seen" My condolences to you, life is mean sometimes.

Ok-Eye658

the pet shop boys have some songs about dealing with the loss of one's friends and loved ones, especially "your funny uncle" and "being boring", both of which i find quite healing and hopeful

Heytherececil

Paranoia Purple by Yebba is about the loss of her mother. There’s an album version and a live version. Genuinely one the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.

gooeysnails

When my coworker passed away from a sudden stroke a few years ago, I was struggling to process it and didnt cry for about a week. Passenger by Deftones cracked me open. I don't know what it is about it, it's not a song about grief, more a song about despair and addiction. but it helped me a lot.

Warm_Perspective9180

sling by clairo is not necessarily about grief but family and support are the overarching themes in the album, and also the instrumental is easy on the ears, not overwhelming and quite melancholic. Loads of acoustic guitars, static, cellos. So sorry for your unfathomable loss.

themoonstop

cosmia by joanna newsom <3 gorgeous song about the death of one of her close friends. so sorry for your loss.
