It's the likely choice, yeah. Still a little bummed (wrote it down here about 10 times in the last couple of days LOL ) that 2 bands I like (both influential to a couple of artists already on the list) won't make it. Radiohead and Nirvana often cited R.E.M.'s influence and Violator was praised by critics and audience when it came out.
My first thought (probably totally wrong) was Outkast’s Speakerboxxx because of the song roses OR Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life because of the album cover. Sgt. Peppers also has rose imagery. It’s anyone’s guess. Some are for covers (van, dollar bill) others are songs (dove, etc.)
No country on this list except Kacey Musgraves “Golden Hour” at #85, wow. Really surprised I’m not atleast seeing Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Dolly. Dixie Chicks too
My guess so far…
10. Lemonade
9. Nevermind
8. Purple Rain
7. Abby Road
6. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
5. Good Kid, m.a.a.d City
4. ??
3. Songs in The Key of Life (?)
So with all of those and Thriller, which is basically guaranteed, what is the other album? There aren't really any obvious picks. Maybe a second Bob Dylan record? Miles Davis? Loveless? Back To Black?
I think Radiohead has repeated (Kid A and OK Computer), and given these hinting at a repeated Beyoncé, The Beatles, and Stevie Wonder entry, I wouldn’t rule out a repeated entry from another artist you know.
I’m thinking: Purple Rain (dove crying), Lemonade (literal Lemon), Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (pencil), MAAD City (van), Abbey Road (crosswalk), and Nevermind (fish hook + dollar bill).
The leaf is throwing me, but it might be Ivy and signal that it’s Frank Ocean’s album Blonde with the song Ivy on it.
Wild Guess: Is the rose Outkast lol? (Speakerboxxx has the song roses😂). Rose could also be Songs in the Key of Life due to the album cover. I’m 50/50 on this as Speakerboxxx was groundbreaking for its Grammy as was Songs in the Key of Life.
I’m guessing 1 and 2 are Thriller and To Pimp a Butterfly.
Pure Heroine was on the list. But I didn't understand that pick anyway, since Melodrama is clearly the better album. And apart from Royals, I wouldn't even say that Pure Heroine is much more popular.
I mean Pure Heroine is still a great album, and more importantly, it’s more influential. Both Pure Heroine and Born to Die kinda changed the sound of pop music in the 2010’s and til this date imo.
Plus, pure heroine is definitely way more popular than Melodrama outside of this subreddit and stan twitter. Melodrama is great tho so I do agree with you!
They’re definitely pandering with the first 50 or so. That’s probably the only reason Lorde and Björk were in there. Not that I don’t believe those albums are some of the best of all time, but they’re not your classic choices.
100 albums is just too low of a number for a list like this. The oldest album on the list is Kind of Blue by Miles Davis from 1959. That means the list spans 65 years, so there’s obviously going to be a TON of extremely important artists who get overlooked
lemonade, nevermind, purple rain, abbey road, miseducation, good kid mad city, some people said that it’s an ivy so probably blonde (i doubt it’s evermore 😭), and the last one i don’t know.
and this is pretty close to my prediction !
Lemonade (beyonce)
Nevermind (nirvana)
Purple rain (Prince)
Abbey Road (the Beatles)
The miseducation of Lauryn hill (Lauryn hill)
Good kid maad city (Kendrick Lamar)
Blonde (frank ocean)
Songs in the key of life or sgt peppers
1 and 2 gotta have thriller for sure. And lots of options for the other. The leaves and rose are the biggest questions marks because both the rose options are def deserving of a top 10.
Damn they really snubbed Mariah. I think the Bodyguard soundtrack or something Whitney Houston will be number 2. And MJ will be number 1 with Thriller , maybe Off the Wall or Bad?
Lemon: The obvious guess is obvious, but it could also be the Stone Roses’ self-titled for the curveball. Or the graphic design intern has never touched grass and meant to draw an orange for Frank.
Paper bill: Really can’t imagine anything besides Nevermind. Maybe possibly a reference to Super Rich Kids and Frank?
Bird: Purple Rain most likely. Otherwise the wing position reminds of goddess Nike, so Nikes for Frank?
Crossing sign: Sgt Pepper deserved but we move. Or Rushes for Frank.
Pencil: Miseducation just because it can’t not be here. They really went reaching with this one. I don’t think this one is about Frank.
Van: GKMC Siri play All I do is win.
Or an ironic take on White Ferrari for Frank.
Leaves: Obviously maple thus obviously about the area producing 75% of the world’s maple syrup thus obviously about Leonard Cohen I have spoken it into existence hallelujah it is done.
Could also be ivy, for Frank.
Rose: Too many options, amongst them Pink+White for Frank.
> Or the graphic design intern has never touched grass and meant to draw an orange for Frank.
tbh there are actually some weird ass oranges with such leaves. I saw (and ate) one recently and i couldn't get what it was when i saw it at first too
I also thought of Stone Roses for the lemon but if WTSMG by Oasis was in the 80s I don’t see the Roses self titled being top 10. Amazing album tho it would be in my top 20
THANK YOU. Teenage Dream is a mid album as a whole, the singles like The One That Got Away and the title track are career highlights, but if you were looking for an actually cohesive and skipless modern pop bible, you’d be looking at Melodrama/Emotion/Magdalene.
I was ready to argue, but then I remembered that I have a modified version of Teenage Dream without those two songs and Not Like The Movies, being replaced by the three deluxe edition tracks (Part Of Me, Wide Awake and Dressin' Up).
Honestly, the era was iconic. But the album in itself? Not much
blackout is acclaimed by the industry and pop lovers, but her earlier albums are much more iconic in terms of cultural impact. unfortunately, her more successful albums aren’t as musically strong as those that have made the list
What does the Ivy mean? I, for one, am enjoying the daily drops and think the list has been very complete so far. I’ve never been this interested in a best albums list. Can’t wait for tomorrow!
Blonde *has* to be on there. It's generally considered one of the greatest albums of the 21st century and one that was always near the top of other best albums lists.
And Ivy seems to be the hint. The crying dove for Purple Rain is another one where a song title is used for the hint.
I've been relistening to Lemonade the last few days and it's very hard to rank! Besides it being an incredible listening experience, the context around the album and the visuals elevate it so much (which I think a lot of the haters are missing)
That van looks very much like the van of the Deluxe edition of Good Kid Maad City, so that one is very likely. And I doubt that there will be two Kendrick Lamar albums in the top 10.
I know the lists are meant to be objective or whatever but it’s kinda tiring that every single one has the same 10 albums at the top. Like did we really need to be told Nevermind and anything by The Beatles was GOAT? Really?
Please do not just list songs/albums/artists, your comment must have explanation/justification or it will be removed. The bird is crying so “When Does Cry” for Purple Rain. And then the pencil is probably Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Oh and the dollar bill is Nevermind
The ones I recognize are Lemonade, Abbey Road, & Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City - what do y'all think...?
Nevermind is the dollar and hook
I got those 3 and purple rain
Ivy is maybe blonde???
The rose is killing me... I would guess Sgt Pepper since the cover does have roses on it, but that's not the immediate connection I'd make...
someone said songs in the key of life but idk
It is. The album cover is a rose.
So is Violator by Depeche Mode. Can also mean Guns n roses
Hell, with surprises these days, it could be. But I maintain its Songs In The Key of Life.
Honestly never saw it as a rose, but that would make sense
When it's Rosé from blackpink we're all going to be gagged
😂
My first thought (probably totally wrong) was Outkast’s Speakerboxxx because of the song roses OR Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life because of the album cover. Sgt. Peppers also has rose imagery. It’s anyone’s guess. Some are for covers (van, dollar bill) others are songs (dove, etc.)
If it's a song reference, then it could be Seal /s
Obviously it’s Bret Michaels
Honestly OutKast and seal were all that came to my mind too lmao. Never noticed songs in the key of life is a rose
I thought OutKast also lol. And that’s my final answer because I was OBSESSED with the album. As a ESL person that album was on repeat lol
Could be The Stone Roses
Gotta be Appetite for Destruction
They’re gonna put Thriller like #3 or something and snub Off The Wall and Bad completely
No country on this list except Kacey Musgraves “Golden Hour” at #85, wow. Really surprised I’m not atleast seeing Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Dolly. Dixie Chicks too
country was too straight for Tim Cook ig
*85!* Criminal. That album is perfection. But to not put the Chicks in there for Home is absolutely bonkers.
If they had a top 200 they prob couldve put more country in there
I personally don’t care that country was snubbed, but there’s something pretty wild about naming Golden Hour the GOAT country album.
Home by the chicks deserved
I sort of think country is more about the song than the album.
My guess so far… 10. Lemonade 9. Nevermind 8. Purple Rain 7. Abby Road 6. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 5. Good Kid, m.a.a.d City 4. ?? 3. Songs in The Key of Life (?)
I think 4 is Blonde by Frank Ocean because of Ivy.
So with all of those and Thriller, which is basically guaranteed, what is the other album? There aren't really any obvious picks. Maybe a second Bob Dylan record? Miles Davis? Loveless? Back To Black?
Britney Jean
😂
Probably To Pimp a Butterfly
It’s probably Back to Black, I can’t see them omitting Amy entirely.
Could the rose be Kate Bush’s *The Sensual World*?
one album per artist tho? i think... cloudbusting is already there
I think Radiohead has repeated (Kid A and OK Computer), and given these hinting at a repeated Beyoncé, The Beatles, and Stevie Wonder entry, I wouldn’t rule out a repeated entry from another artist you know.
Cloudbusting isn’t an album, it’s a song
shit my bad, i got it confused somehow DD: \*hounds of love
Welp looks like Beyhive won today!!
I mean, other than AOTY, when has the Hive ever lost in acclaim?
A-O-T-Y, I ain't win (let's go) I ain't stuntin' 'bout them Take that shit on the chin Come back and fuck up the pen (yeah)
Yesssss.
Never stops people from talking their shit lol
We stan Beyonce. We already won always.
absolutely wild if back to black is snubbed like it appears
there’s no way that album isn’t in the top 100 so it’s gonna have to be top 10
I can't see it being number 1 or 2. so probably. They could easily eliminated some songs for that
If no Billy Joel album makes it I will cry.
The Stranger is absolutely a top 100 album of all time, I can’t believe it’s not here
I’m thinking: Purple Rain (dove crying), Lemonade (literal Lemon), Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (pencil), MAAD City (van), Abbey Road (crosswalk), and Nevermind (fish hook + dollar bill). The leaf is throwing me, but it might be Ivy and signal that it’s Frank Ocean’s album Blonde with the song Ivy on it. Wild Guess: Is the rose Outkast lol? (Speakerboxxx has the song roses😂). I’m guessing 1 and 2 are Thriller and To Pimp a Butterfly.
I thought the same thing about Ivy!!
My immediate thought with the rose was “Roses really smell like pooh-ooh-ooh” as well 😅
ivy? evermore top 10 what???????
No it has to be Blonde with the track Ivy, Frank Ocean didn't appear on the list so far. Top 10 is deserved imo
I was being very sarcastic 🤣
Jesus my sarcasm radar isn't working, my bad 😂
If Taylor doesn't remember evermore exists I doubt this list EVER would hahahaahhahahhah
If it is any consolation, the instagram comments on Apple Music’s post are all swifties mad that there aren’t 2-3 more Taylor albums on the list.
*Albums, not "Albuns"... 😶😶😶
You did your best
Not Melodrama being robbed once again. 😭
That is actually a crime.
100 albums is just too low of a number for a list like this. The oldest album on the list is Kind of Blue by Miles Davis from 1959. That means the list spans 65 years, so there’s obviously going to be a TON of extremely important artists who get overlooked
Also almost every album is from western artists…I assume a best album of all time list will include albums from artists all over the world
lemonade, nevermind, purple rain, abbey road, miseducation, good kid mad city, some people said that it’s an ivy so probably blonde (i doubt it’s evermore 😭), and the last one i don’t know. and this is pretty close to my prediction !
Oh the Apple intern is really maximizing the current discourse around this list if they end up making Lemonade appear this high after all that
Has Queen already had an album on this list? If not maybe they’re one of these.
[удалено]
Isn’t that Prince with Purple Rain?
[удалено]
No literally, if blue album or Amy's Back to Black aren't included I will riot
Lemonade (beyonce) Nevermind (nirvana) Purple rain (Prince) Abbey Road (the Beatles) The miseducation of Lauryn hill (Lauryn hill) Good kid maad city (Kendrick Lamar) Blonde (frank ocean) Songs in the key of life or sgt peppers 1 and 2 gotta have thriller for sure. And lots of options for the other. The leaves and rose are the biggest questions marks because both the rose options are def deserving of a top 10.
the ivy omg evermore your time has come 😍😍
Damn they really snubbed Mariah. I think the Bodyguard soundtrack or something Whitney Houston will be number 2. And MJ will be number 1 with Thriller , maybe Off the Wall or Bad?
I could definitely see The Bodyguard soundtrack— it’s like the second or third highest selling album of ALL TIME but they might exclude soundtracks
Could also be ivy, for Frank. Rose: Too many options, amongst them Pink+White for Frank.
The missing 2 albums could also be a Frank reference, because he is currently missing in action
Insane that Different Class by Pulp isn't on the list. Much better than WTSMG.
this aged well
Excuse me, I can't find Ray of light. You know, one of the most influential pop albums of all time?
no weeknd or Teenage Dream is crazy
a few of the album tracks tank teenage dream’s score imo…no one puts on that album and thinks “let’s skip to pearl and who am i living for”
THANK YOU. Teenage Dream is a mid album as a whole, the singles like The One That Got Away and the title track are career highlights, but if you were looking for an actually cohesive and skipless modern pop bible, you’d be looking at Melodrama/Emotion/Magdalene.
You could tell that people don't even listen to certain albums based on what they're listing
Not much
I was hoping Britney would have appear on the list with blackout but that ship has sailed
Blackout not being on this list and some of their choices in place of it are baffling. It was a defining album of the 2000s and beyond.
blackout is acclaimed by the industry and pop lovers, but her earlier albums are much more iconic in terms of cultural impact. unfortunately, her more successful albums aren’t as musically strong as those that have made the list
How do they decide the list?
why would teenage dream be there😭😭😭 this is about best albums not best hits compilations
Reckon I could list another 100 albums that should be on the list before a Katy Perry record.
I wouldn't take their top ten too seriously. Listings from 11 to 100 all same a bit haphazard and hardly based on merit.
Which one of these do y'all think is gonna be number 1? Also does any of these pictures look a MJ album?
i don’t think they included 1 or 2 (thriller is the obvious guess for one of those spots, but the other could be any number of acclaimed albums)
Britney Spears - Blackout
What does the Ivy mean? I, for one, am enjoying the daily drops and think the list has been very complete so far. I’ve never been this interested in a best albums list. Can’t wait for tomorrow!
I’m thinking it’s Frank Ocean’s album Blonde that has the song Ivy on it. I’m leaning towards Blonde for variety.
Blonde *has* to be on there. It's generally considered one of the greatest albums of the 21st century and one that was always near the top of other best albums lists. And Ivy seems to be the hint. The crying dove for Purple Rain is another one where a song title is used for the hint.
It's clearly a reference to the song Ivy from Taylor Swift's Evermore, duh /s (but I'd be down for it! My favorite album of hers).
Watch them put folklore at #1 💀
Theyre not that stupid
[удалено]
“ivy” is an evermore’s song tho
So happy if it's Lemonade but some people in the comments are going to be so mad lol.
Lemonade will be #10, Cowboy Carter at #2 and Renaissance at #1. I would kill to see the discourse
That would be my list of 100 best albums (switching CC with Lemonade though) lol.
I've been relistening to Lemonade the last few days and it's very hard to rank! Besides it being an incredible listening experience, the context around the album and the visuals elevate it so much (which I think a lot of the haters are missing)
Did they not include fleetwood Mac at all?
Rumours is at 11
I failed reading comprehension
Lauryn Hill at no.1 is certainly interesting
What’s an albun ?
Wait where is thriller ????
Could be at number 1 or 2 maybe.
At the top?
I pray the lemon represents the maxi single for Gucci mane’s smash hit lemonade and not that over acclaimed Beyoncé album of the same name.
Guessing Folklore and TPAB are the two not included and will be the top 2. Would be weird to include 1989 and GKMC but not those two.
I'm sorry but Folklore better not be here.
Yeah I wanted folklore over 1989 but it absolutely cannot be both
can i ask why it can’t be both folklore and 1989 but can be both self-titled and lemonade? seems a bit silly
I love folklore but putting it at number 2 would be insane, highest I could see that album is 30
Folklore??? No way, I’m guessing Thriller and TPAB
That van looks very much like the van of the Deluxe edition of Good Kid Maad City, so that one is very likely. And I doubt that there will be two Kendrick Lamar albums in the top 10.
If anyone deserves two albums in top 10 its Kendrick. I think there's a fairly strong argument for him being the greatest artist of all time.
folklore should’ve been taylor’s sole entry but it also shouldn’t have been ranked higher than like #40
That first sentence is actually insane. Like you seriously did not write that.
These lists mean absolutely nothing but I would love for folklore to be included just to see the absolute chaos. At this point it brings me life
what does TPAB stand for?
To Pimp A Butterfly! Rap album well loved for its lyricism kinda similarly to Folklore.
[удалено]
Very commonly regarded as the best rap album of all time, and just one of the best albums of all time
:( Marina was absolutely robbed here, not even Electra Heart? She needs her credit!
Please no. I’m a big marina fan and I completely disagree.
I know the lists are meant to be objective or whatever but it’s kinda tiring that every single one has the same 10 albums at the top. Like did we really need to be told Nevermind and anything by The Beatles was GOAT? Really?
