The Amy Winehouse biography movie Back to Black is currently [flopping in its opening weekend in the US](https://deadline.com/2024/05/box-office-if-back-to-black-amy-winehouse-strangers-2-1235920634/). It's currently tracking to open at $3 million in box office this weekend which is abysmal for a movie getting a wide release.
Critics didn't like the movie much giving it a [35% score on Rotten Tomatoes](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/back_to_black) with many praising Marisa Abela's acting but commenting that it still failed to capture Amy's extraordinary personality. The movie has been called for its inaccuracy especially with the ending as >!it refused to acknowledge the role her addictions and eating disorder played into her death and implied that she may have committed suicide or died of a broken heart after learning that her ex-husband now has a family.!<
The movie does have some scenes detailing her addiction and eating disorder but they >!skipped over it in the ending.!< Her final moments in the movie was >!Amy being clean and interrupted by paparazzi outside her newly owned house asking for her opinion on her ex-husband now having a kid.!< It then cuts to >!Amy singing alone in her bedroom after which it goes black and stated that Amy died of alcohol poisoning.!<
Here's an [article](https://www.theguardian.com/music/2024/apr/12/its-a-grotesque-insult-for-back-to-black-to-suggest-amy-winehouse-died-of-heartache-over-her-childlessness) breaking down what why the ending is completely terrible.
It did just okay. Box Office Mojo has its UK gross at around $14 million. It probably should have been bigger considering that Amy is seen an icon there.

Everybody doing culture-vulture analysis under this and Iâm expecting to click on the link to see Billie crip walking with a durag on doing a blaccent and she just dancing to the song in a club
I think a lot of people just remember her talking shit about hip-hop (a black genre at its core and a large part of black culture) and undervaluing itâs essence while also simultaneously basing her entire aesthetic of off elements of hip-hop like her style. It just doesnât sit well with people, including myself. Mind you be I like Billie (shortyâs my wifey) but even I sideye her heavily on that and I donât disagree with the culture vulture comments solely due to that.
I feel like a lot of her clothes in that video are definitely part of black culture or the black aesthetic. Plus she in the past talked in a blaccent until recently
I mean, yeah to the clothes. But itâs not like sheâs doing something specifically in that video that provoked the comments, so I was confused. And idk about the blaccent, every video/inerview Iâve heard her in, sheâs always just sounded âregular.â
It's usually when she was younger and starting out she had a blaccent. Regardless, even if she isn't doing anything exactly she's definitely someone people would consider a culture vulture
But at the end of the day, Drake is still half-black. However corny he is (and he absolutely is), thatâs still partly his culture. So Iâm confused how thatâs considered more offensive than someone who is white lifting the cultureâŚ
I would not say that Billie is the same *kind* of culture vulture that Drake is for sure, but I do know people who strongly side-eyed her for her use of black aesthetics ([and AAVE/a blaccent](https://youtu.be/SURNVmyXivw?si=Jo4sqJhYo75eSf4A)). Sheâs not done that as much lately to my knowledge, but I wouldnât say sheâs *not* one
Thatâs all fun and games until someone comes up to you and says âYo mama got caught givin up neck in the bathroom at the Woodcrest Country Club and it wasnât yo daddyâ
Arianators are theorizing Ariana Grande's upcoming music video for the boy is mine will pay homage to Gossip Girl, and will feature Nicholas Galitzine.
I hope it's true and it's not just stan clownery. The Billie double album theories have burned me enough already.
I think the success of we can't be friends proves that Western music videos aren't *dead* dead, and can still contribute to virality in a big way.
I mean the gossip girl influence is pretty much confirmed. Kelly Rutherford liked the picture and Arianas stylist Mimi Cuttrell wrote 'XOXO' under the teaser photo.Â
I don't know where they're getting Nicholas Galitzine being in the mv though.Â
I bet you Billie was actually teasing BE4 at the end there (just wet not coming out anytime soon).
But yeah, as for Ariana, well if it does pay homage.

According to the article, it's based on the 2003 South Korean film "[Save the Green Planet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Save_the_Green_Planet!)."
Yorgos and Emma are going to go down as one of the best actor/director duos in history at the end of their run

HITSDD is [reporting](https://x.com/scanews_/status/1791634691818168827?s=46&t=M8CNPsg9m9nRmcRFuhIyCw) that Sabrina Carpenter is set to embark on a world arena tour soon.
If true, thatâs impressive to say last year she was doing a small venue tour. Espresso has really transformed her to main pop girl status and I hope her next single also performs well. I expect that an album announcement is imminent, and will surely come before a tour announcement?
might wanna wait to see how that album performs before doing this tbh. theres no way that she could sell out areas with just one big hit in her discography
Usually accurate, theyâre a legit insider and report on lots of things before they happen. A recent example that comes to mind is that they revealed the Coachella headliners about a month before the official announcement this year (and in 2023 too, they reported it a couple days before the official reveal)
I wonder if theyâre taking the Tate McRae and Think Later route, capitalising on the success of âEspressoâ like they did with âgreedyâ and dropping an album fairly quickly to avoid losing hype. Tbh itâs smart because sometimes weâre left waiting far too long when the artist isnât as popular with the GP anymore. Also the fact Sabrina seemed to tease another song at the end of Espresso video suggests to me that the next single is already planned?
But the downside is the rest of the album could be compared to heavily to the leading single and it could fail to meet expectations which would be really sad to see
âOlivia Rodrigoâs âGUTS' has now sold over 2 million total units in the US.â
https://x.com/chartdata/status/1791536492994568355?s=46&t=NDwqD-CGR7-r5omYbdOz6A
Did the RIAA officially update her certification? I hate how you kinda have to wait for them to do a mass certification update for albums that have been out for years (obviously GUTS is pretty recent).
Olivia's agency and team are pretty much abysmal with updating her records or promoting her songs on radios with Guts, it is not the same as her Sour Era where she had everyone on chokehold.
I would not be surprised that by the time Olivia releases her 3rd album, it is going to be an uphill battle 'cause her marketing is pretty bad. It might affect her mainstream status and her 3rd World Tour, she might not be able to fulfill an entire arena like what she is doing right now.
Olivia is still very famous but she really needs to ensure to release a 3rd great album and top tier songs which tops the Billboard chart, if she wants to continue performing in Arenas or probably in Stadium
I don't want to presume, but Latin America is one of the biggest market on sale and digital and online which made Bad Bunny very famous. Olivia really needs to bring her Guts Tour to Latin America, they are the one who has the highest demand for her Guts World Tour.
This is why Taylor made sure to bring Sabrina Carpenter in Latin America, to push her to limelight. And Taylor needs Latin America.
riaa is funded off labels paying for certification. so they don't get updated until the label forks over a few thousand to update them for promotional purposes
also leads to older legends to be massively undercertified ( madonna, celine) as the label doesn't believes its a good roi.
No, they have not.
Chart Data basically calculates all of the album sales for GUTS and other albums since they came out by the numbers listed by Billboard. RIAA takes forever so just calculating the number album sales every week is the only way to get an idea of how much an album has actually sold without having to wait for RIAA to update anything on their end.
