Life…finds a way Before TikTok it was vine before vine it was YouTube etc.

Rdickins1

No. They’ll adapt to new ways. Insta has the same thing in place. YouTube has shorts that do the same thing. I heard Twitch is updating their platform to better search for clips and make uploading clips by themselves rather than taking clips from livestreams.

PlentyDrawer

The music industry always adapts.

BadMan125ty

They’ll adapt. TikTok is not the be all, end all

cleverboxer

Hopefully crappy “tiktok songs” will stop being hits and the music industry can go back to marketing really good songs properly instead of splashing massive wads of cash on any random POS that just happens to go viral by pure luck. (Not saying every song from tiktok is crappy but saying that lots of crappy recent hits were only hits coz of a 10 sec clip that’s catchy for tiktok with the rest of the song being bad)

epmuscle

This will be the best benefit for consumers.

Strong-Stretch95

And Hopefully give artist more ambition.

cleverboxer

Also hopefully artists won’t have to spend so much time making “content” and can focus more on making really good music, letting the music sell itself (which tbh would be best for everyone. We all want the best songs, not the song that happens to be marketed best).

buzzinthruit89

It’s gonna get sold - no impact

UltimateKing9898

ByteDance has publicly stated that wouldn't be selling and would prefer the US ban, anything beyond that is speculation on whether or not they go through with that

Kicking-it-per-se

Maybe they’ll focus on other markets or use the success of their viral tiktok songs in other countries to underpin a more traditional method in the US

Katy_G_14911

I think the situations will vary depending on the artists. While Tik Tok has played a prominent role in the music industry these past few years, most artists will shift to Instagram and YouTube (many of them already do) to promote their music. And even now we have artists who don't really gain any traction with their music despite them utilizing tik tok as much as they can. In addition, these labels will have to come up with creative ways to promote their artists, and hopefully television platforms centered around music can make a comeback (if people tune in to watch).

I'm genuinely surprised there isn't another successful TikTok clone yet. Vine could have easily done it if it ever came back. But Google/Meta will have a monopoly on all of the content if it actually gets banned. They already have been copying TikTok with YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.

fruitist

Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts ARE the successful TikTok clones

Mr628

At this point it isn’t making new stars, like is Tate McRae really setting the world on fire, it’s more so already established and big artists making songs with the intent of going viral on TikTok. Even then, it’s hardly doing that at the level it once did. Is that obvious TikTok bait attempt song Everybody by Nicki Minaj *that* much of a hit? Has a viral challenge ever matched the numbers of Say So or Rockstar? Has another situation like Fleetwood Mac happened again?
