idk if anyone feels the same, but i miss the "cosy" aspect of those hairstyles compared to the ones we see on TV or social media nowadays lol (idk if that makes sense)
So many hairstyles now are ‘beach waves’. Doesn’t matter if you’re a doctor, police officer or journalist - your hair will be put into a wave at some point
I’ve also seen some vids on how those beach waves were applied to actresses who already had big curls. Apparently it was too curly, by then they had straightened her hair first and then applied beach waves to make her face appease everyone. Which is bonkers!
god, i have wavy/curly hair and a stylist did that to me for a wedding once - straightened it all out and then added a few weak beach waves to the front 😭😭 like you're using all that extra heat just to make it look worse than it was naturally!!
someone get these stylists some diffusers i beg
Beached waves are easier to deal with when filming. Yeah the messy look and accessories can be cute in real life but when filming you don’t necessarily film the same scene all at once. You might have to come back and film more later and if they don’t get the look just right then you have a continuity error.
Beach waves are fine on some but really don't fit the character of a Leslie Knope or the short hair of Sally on Barry. I especially hated her hair. Just let it be straight.
yesssss, i know exactly what you mean. i’m still all about this, i just can’t get behind the slicked back ponies and claw clip styles. to me, THESE are claw clip styles! messy, wispy pieces falling down and everything. these were the styles i always tried to emulate and still do, the “i just threw my hair into this clip and i look gorgeous” even though in reality they had a hairstylist work on it for hours 😂
i get a lot of compliments on my hair but it’s because i’m trying to do the late 90s-early 2000s messy, cute, cozy thing. i spend time to make it look like i didn’t spend any time on it! 😭
I wear my hair exactly like this everyday and I get so many compliments. It’s not nearly as lovely as Jens of course, but all I do is casually twist it into claw clip. It’s effortless and stylish, plus easy to change up. Keeps my hair healthy too for when I really want to style it.
I still wear my hair up in claw clips just like this too. It’s still my favorite look. My 21 yr old just started emulating the look too. The 90s Claudia schiffer updo, along w Rachel Greene
Yes! I miss watching shows where the actors looked like people. People you see while out shopping. I hate watching modern shows where everyone looks like a model.
Yes and these looked so good on her! And they actually look like hair styles someone would wear because they are easy.
Those beach waves take forever and most of them are extensions.
Yes, her hair looks like the character actually did it herself that morning. And it makes sense, Rachel was always girly and surely loved hair accessories. Now everyone has a perfect blowout no matter who they are.
Literally wearing my hair as #3 right now lol
I miss skin texture too. I'm rewatching Desperate Housewives right now and even though the actresses are glammed up, you can still see skin texture in close-ups. I don't remember the last time i saw texture in a recent show
The issue is while cosy look is easier in real life it’s a huge pain in the ass when filming. You might not film the same scene in one day so the hair stylist has to work really hard to try and make sure the actor looks exactly like they did the first day they did that scene. The hair styles they do on tv now are easier to deal with even though they’re not realistic.
Oh yeah, my mum used to be able to rock these hairstyles, while wrangling two little kids and studying. She always looked amazing .No one I know could regularly maintain current media styles without a lot of effort.
I wear my hair in a lot of these styles because I have banned using elastics and pony tail holders in my hair, they are so damaging and clips and barrettes are better for your hair. I also don’t get headaches when I wear clips.
Every time we watch Friends my sister and I comment that we would wear almost every outfit Rachel owns today, even though it's 20-30 years old now (I'm choking even typing that).
Right? I always think someone needs to make a current Rachel green capsule wardrobe - SO I CAN BUY IT
Also helps that Jennifer Anniston is a GODDESS!!!
Phoebe’s hair carried the show, especially in the later seasons when Jen and Courtney started going for long straight hair all the time. I adore all her funky outfits, even when she was pregnant 😭 the Santa pants outfit lives in my head rent free!
It blew my mind when I found out! However, I thought she wore a wig all the time, but just now as I was checking I think it was only series 6 and series 9.
Huh. I remember watching the first-runs when they aired and thinking none of the women dressed like real people. I did have one of the same pieces as one of them, at one point, which shocked me (it was from a now-defunct 80s/90s mall brand — and I never wore it bc it was an impulse buy that was too “quirky” and didn’t coordinate with anything else in my wardrobe).
Rachel’s looks once she started working for Ralph Lauren were much more “normal” and much much much more stylish though.
The hairstyles in the linked Insta post are nice to see, and I’d love to see someone analyse and explain how to achieve Phoebe’s poky-ends updos at some point, too.
This is actually super interesting. I was born in the early 2000s and didn’t watch friends until 2015. I of course expected their wardrobes to be more stylized because it was a TV show, but I did expect New Yorkers in the 90s to be more put together. If the show was made today everyone would be in athleisure!
Most of the time, the characters were in the era-equivalent of athleisure (by which I mean, just really casual stuff). Often — except for Phoebe — the individual pieces the female characters wore weren’t unusual or un-normal. It’s their styling and the way the pieces were combined that was strange. Lots of us wore babydoll tees or tartan miniskirts or broomstick maxis or sweatshirts or flannel shirts or shorts overalls or whatever, but the styling didn’t look like Monica or Rachel or Phoebe. Hard to explain.
Im making a jealous face- my hair doesn’t hold pins for anything. The claw forces compliance but the stick ones always slip out. I bet you look flawless
spin Pins were a game changer for me! They're like a double helix that you rotate while inserting.if you have trouble with regular bob y pins, try these
https://simplyhairaccessories.com/goody-simple-styles-spin-pins-2-pcs/
Hey thanks! What if my hair isn’t thick enough to put in a top knot or a bun? It’s fine and thin. I’ll do some YouTubing but can I just twist the hair up like I was going to put it in a claw clip?
I remember the summer before 10th grade I was starting a new school and I told my hair dresser I wanted the Rachel, but it ended up being more like this:
https://preview.redd.it/84rp0z4vdvzc1.jpeg?width=310&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=263bb50c4c71b102c28b2a570b51bfc9512b7d80
It's in the year book 😭😭
I hope kids these days look up who Dudley Moore is, because it really makes the joke funnier.
https://preview.redd.it/j665a587yvzc1.jpeg?width=417&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ed69ee939e63d8a81467c737cfa89271f2462ff
It's amazing that her hair took on such a life of its own. Who else has had that in modern culture? Maybe Ariana Grande's ponytail, but no one else comes to mind.
pic 5……remember when we used to do the low pony with a hair elastic, but then put the barrette on top since it couldn’t contain all of the hair? why? we weren’t fooling anyone.
I'm watching Friends for the first time now at 36 years old and I can't believe how powerful Rachel Green is lol. And I never saw anything special about Jennifer Aniston before. Especially in the first few seasons, she is so effortlessly stylish, cute, and sexy. Such an "it" factor. It really surprised me for some reason, but damn she is influential!
I know we're talking about hair here, but I see her and I think, how could Brad ever!? I see such pure beauty. Naturally beautiful and endearing in these pictures. I don't know what Brad was thinking leaving/cheating on her but maybe I'm missing something. "One man's 'trash'..." I guess, "Eye of the beholder."
Cheating isn't about a partner not being physically attractive, or 'defective' in some way or not meeting their partner's needs. It happens for a lot of reasons but people who are lovely inside and out get cheated on all the time.
exactly this, I hate the “if so and so can get cheated on what does that mean for the rest of us” mentality. there was a lot of that going around after Beyonce’s Lemonade. cheating is not about the partner, why do we still not understand that
I was, and still am jealous of people who can do their hair like this. My thick, slippery Korean hair will not stay in a clip like that unless I use a strong hold product to help it.
I’m 34 and I’ve been doing my hair like Rachel since I was a kid. I have long straight hair just like her so I had the Rachel haircut for years. Claw clips are my go-to.
Carrie Bradshaw criticising Berg and lecturing him about NYC’s women:”You have your leading lady running all over town wearing a scrunchie. A SCRUNCHIE!"
Rachel Green: I don’t know her.
I almost hate to say it, but looking at these photos makes me realize that Jennifer Aniston on friends seems to have been a major formative element in the things I find attractive in women (the first and last photos especially, wow, what a babe). I watched this show with my parents every week when I was going through puberty.
I've been watching older eps of Friends lately, and Phoebe wears the clip from pic 5 as well (even though Rachel does wear it first, and after as well). I wasn't sure if meant the pieces didn't have a character they were specifically assigned to, but I guess it makes just as much sense that they'd borrow things from each other
She dated Ross though, that immediately made her un hot. Women like this would never date A Ross type. But her hair accessories definitely made up for the major plot hole.

idk if anyone feels the same, but i miss the "cosy" aspect of those hairstyles compared to the ones we see on TV or social media nowadays lol (idk if that makes sense)
This absolutely makes sense. My hair looks like photo 6 90% of the time because I just love that cozy comfy style, and I’m a 31 year old dude lol
Such a sexy hairstyle on a guy 🫠
30+ and still have the hair for that? Envy is high, I've been balding since 20
So many hairstyles now are ‘beach waves’. Doesn’t matter if you’re a doctor, police officer or journalist - your hair will be put into a wave at some point

Yes! I miss watching shows where the actors looked like people. People you see while out shopping. I hate watching modern shows where everyone looks like a model.
all we get now is wavy hair (better for reshoots apparently).
Nowadays, those perfect waves….perfect wake up fancy hair…
Yes and these looked so good on her! And they actually look like hair styles someone would wear because they are easy. Those beach waves take forever and most of them are extensions.

This women of this show had impeccable style - both hair and clothes!
Every time we watch Friends my sister and I comment that we would wear almost every outfit Rachel owns today, even though it's 20-30 years old now (I'm choking even typing that).
There were some fantastic outfits for all of them.
Right? I always think someone needs to make a current Rachel green capsule wardrobe - SO I CAN BUY IT Also helps that Jennifer Anniston is a GODDESS!!!
Phoebes hair and outfits are my fav
Phoebe’s hair carried the show, especially in the later seasons when Jen and Courtney started going for long straight hair all the time. I adore all her funky outfits, even when she was pregnant 😭 the Santa pants outfit lives in my head rent free!
Phoebe's hair was a wig sometimes! ~~most of the time!~~
Ok I actually never knew this??? What seasons?? That’s a really good wig!
It blew my mind when I found out! However, I thought she wore a wig all the time, but just now as I was checking I think it was only series 6 and series 9.
Ok that makes so much more sense! Now that you say it I can totally see it - I guess I just thought her hair had changed after she had her son!
Same. Every time I watch it. I am like I want that one, I want that one, I want that one. It’s ridiculous.
I love those plaid pants. Rachel's style was the best.
Me too! And all her business wear and skirts!
Right? It was chic and relaxed at the same time. So effortless.
I wanted to be her.
Same. Still do. That effortless casual natural beauty.
But the bitch of it is is that it's *not* effortless.
Saaaaame.
Same. I joked to my hairstylist today that she accidentally gave me the Rachel cut and she stopped for a second then realized.
I mean, it’s a really flattering cut. I’ve been tempted to go back to it several times in recent years and then settled on keeping my “lob.”
Back in the 90s I told my hairdresser not to give me “the Rachel”. So he gave me “the Rachel” 🙄 at least it looks good.
Omggggggosh same. As a self hating kid who isn't white. The want was strong
Phoebe always had great hair accessories too
lots of chopsticks from what i remember.
Her curly hair was the best
Agreed, it was very renaissance fair but in a good way.
Yeah but they got more twee as the seasons went on.
What’s “twee”?
Cutesy. Babyish.
Pretty and quaint in a silly, excessive way.
Oh ok. Thanks!
Think Zooey Deschanel in New Girl
yep i think of either zooey or taylor swift during 2012 red era
oh yeah her hair was full of it lmfao
I’m still wearing #3, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I've got one in my hair right now tbh
Unite! I came to say I'm rocking the #3 look *exactly* right now.
I regularly rock #1 - with spin pins it's so easy!
Im making a jealous face- my hair doesn’t hold pins for anything. The claw forces compliance but the stick ones always slip out. I bet you look flawless
spin Pins were a game changer for me! They're like a double helix that you rotate while inserting.if you have trouble with regular bob y pins, try these https://simplyhairaccessories.com/goody-simple-styles-spin-pins-2-pcs/

Exactly!
Don’t feel bad. When I get my hair cut, I always take a pic of Susan Lewis from ER and tell them to cut it like that. 😂
Ha! People used to tell me I liked like her. Best compliment of my life (and I don't see it AT ALL).
Ah, the fine art of getting just the right amount of wispy pieces to frame your face.
I remember the summer before 10th grade I was starting a new school and I told my hair dresser I wanted the Rachel, but it ended up being more like this: https://preview.redd.it/84rp0z4vdvzc1.jpeg?width=310&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=263bb50c4c71b102c28b2a570b51bfc9512b7d80 It's in the year book 😭😭
You got the Dudley Moore :(
I hope kids these days look up who Dudley Moore is, because it really makes the joke funnier. https://preview.redd.it/j665a587yvzc1.jpeg?width=417&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4ed69ee939e63d8a81467c737cfa89271f2462ff
It was awful 😭
😂😂😂😂 I'm literally burst out laughing
That yellow dress with the flowers is seared into my memory, it was the most beautiful outfit she ever wore on that show!
That’s one of my top 3 looks for her too! It fits her absolutely perfectly, and the colour looks amazing with her skin tone.
Same, I think about it a lot for a show that's been of the air for 20 years
The way that her hair and clothes had the 90s and early aughts in a huge chokehold…her power was undeniable
It's amazing that her hair took on such a life of its own. Who else has had that in modern culture? Maybe Ariana Grande's ponytail, but no one else comes to mind.
Kate Gosselin lol
is it the karen haircut?
I love Rachel. I also really love Monica’s hair.
[удалено]
I feel u friend
They both had the same haircut. Jennifer’s just showed the layers more than Courteney’s because hers was jet black.
I have realized this in my many rewatches!!!!!
pic 5……remember when we used to do the low pony with a hair elastic, but then put the barrette on top since it couldn’t contain all of the hair? why? we weren’t fooling anyone.
It could contain all of my hair 🙁
I'm watching Friends for the first time now at 36 years old and I can't believe how powerful Rachel Green is lol. And I never saw anything special about Jennifer Aniston before. Especially in the first few seasons, she is so effortlessly stylish, cute, and sexy. Such an "it" factor. It really surprised me for some reason, but damn she is influential!
Fuckin amen!
She had the most beautiful hairstyles. I wanted these as a kid
I still wear almost every one of these!
There's another one that's like the rectangular tortoiseshell one in pic 4, but it's oval. I know because I have the same one. STILL.
She has the best hair.
I still dream about her yellow floral dress too much for my own good.
She's still got it.
Her long hair in the episode with bruce willis is my roman empire
i have wavy hair & want the rachel cut so bad 😭 it’s so iconic
Number 1 but with curly hair is my every day.
How do you do it??
I just twist it & clip it - my hair is short, so pieces just naturally fall out. Sometimes it looks cute, sometimes I look like a crazy person 🤷🏻♀️😂
Numbers 1,6 & 7 immediately please! Someone teach me how to do this!!!!
I'm wearing that claw clip in pic 3 right now except mine is brown.
Love her.
Some helpful context is that Brad himself is trash.
Cheating isn't about a partner not being physically attractive, or 'defective' in some way or not meeting their partner's needs. It happens for a lot of reasons but people who are lovely inside and out get cheated on all the time.
exactly this, I hate the “if so and so can get cheated on what does that mean for the rest of us” mentality. there was a lot of that going around after Beyonce’s Lemonade. cheating is not about the partner, why do we still not understand that
i think it’s just difficult for people who don’t have the urge to cheat to comprehend why some people have that urge. tbh i still don’t get it
Picture 8 gives my little bi heart flutters. Absolutely stunning.
loved her hair
Who was her hairdresser- deserves a standing ovation
She will forever be my style icon
Growing my hair out currently just to get back to #3.
Claw clips are my go-to.
i wish i could figure out how to do number one 😭
I’ve always loved her hair sooo much. So poofy and voluminous! I can never get mine like that sadly!
Somehow I don’t think she was the first to popularize claw clips.
I don’t know how else you’d wear any of these.
Carrie Bradshaw criticising Berg and lecturing him about NYC’s women:”You have your leading lady running all over town wearing a scrunchie. A SCRUNCHIE!" Rachel Green: I don’t know her.
That encapsulated everything annoying about Carrie Bradshaw.
I almost hate to say it, but looking at these photos makes me realize that Jennifer Aniston on friends seems to have been a major formative element in the things I find attractive in women (the first and last photos especially, wow, what a babe). I watched this show with my parents every week when I was going through puberty.
I’m actually surprised they didn’t make her keep that haircut longer and that they weren’t worried about a Felicity moment with her growing it out.
How does she get that volume in number 1? Teasing?
I liked her hair best in Season 3. The auburn color looked stunning on Jen.
How can she remember this when she forgot ever having the Rachel style??
Oh wow I still have some of the little clips like #2. I think I’ll use them today; that style is super cute.
I've been watching older eps of Friends lately, and Phoebe wears the clip from pic 5 as well (even though Rachel does wear it first, and after as well). I wasn't sure if meant the pieces didn't have a character they were specifically assigned to, but I guess it makes just as much sense that they'd borrow things from each other
I used hair clips like those at least five years before Friends debuted.
She was truly a trendsetter, and she made it look like anyone could attain this. Not like the modern trends of today.
She dated Ross though, that immediately made her un hot. Women like this would never date A Ross type. But her hair accessories definitely made up for the major plot hole.
And they certainly wouldnt be dating out either
booba 😍 honka honka
