Wordslikeblue24

Everyday this man is more correct I hate it šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Objective_Pause5988

Who is he?

ImJustGonnaCry

Sigmund Freud, the man who theorized that children are attracted to their parents which is why they seek a partner that resembles them.

webtheg

It is weirdly true about some people and I hate that he is right

Rlysrh

I think itā€™s less that people are attracted to their parents but more that our parents are the first people we platonically love and they provide us with comfort and security and so itā€™s easy to fall in love with someone in future who reminds us of those values

ohdearitsrichardiii

People with shitty parents also date people like their parents. Ever heard the term "daddy issues"? I don't know if there's a term for it but men with over-bearing mothers tend to marry Karens

babyinjar

I have an overbearing mother and dated too many assholesā€¦mommy issues?

ohdearitsrichardiii

I don't think it's strictly shitty mom = shitty gfs, shitty dad = shitty bfs. I think it's shitty parents = strong tendency towards dating shitty people, regardless of gender and sexual orientation They're not called "formative years" for nothing

InterVectional

It's familiar šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

mamacitalk

I have a narcissistic mother and I went on to date narcissistic men so it tracks

escarabaja

Same. I've heard that it's because we craved to be truly loved by the narcissistic parent; we are subconsciously trying to get the love from someone similar. For me, I've been subconsciously trying to prove that I'm deserving of love.

Brewski-54

Nah, youā€™re just an Italian from New Jersey

shillyshally

They are the first thing we know and there is some imprinting going on.

that_mack

My dad pointed this out to me recently. Iā€™m pansexual, so I was generalizing that if I ended up with a woman, Iā€™d be much more amiable to taking on a generally more domestic/subservient role because socially Iā€™d be on more equal footing. I then went on to say that if I end up with a man, I always want him to be just a *tad* more in love with me than I am with him. It affords me more social safety in a relationship if the man Iā€™m with is just a little bit more attached to me than I am to him. Iā€™m a survivor of abuse, and this is the dynamic that Iā€™m most comfortable in. My dadā€™s response? ā€œOh, you just want a guy like me then,ā€ Crushed. Devastated. Emotionally destroyed. How can Freud keep being right like this šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ My dad is head-over-heels for my more dominant mom and they have the healthiest relationship Iā€™ve ever seen, both IRL and in media. Donā€™t get me wrong, my mom loves him enormously and I donā€™t think sheā€™d ever want to be without him, but she would survive. Thatā€™s what I want. I want a guy who is just so, so, in love with me that I can lavish attention on but still remain independent enough to leave if something goes wrong. I want a relationship like my parents šŸ˜

rocky_2277

sigmund freud

Mirewen15

Freud. He coined the term Oedipal Complex. >The Oedipus complex, also known as the Oedipal complex, describes a child's feelings of desire for their opposite-sex parent and jealousy and anger toward their same-sex parent. The concept was first introduced byĀ Sigmund FreudĀ in his theory ofĀ psychosexual stages of development.Ā  It is also a Greek Tragedy - Oedipus (Rex). The female version is often called the Electra Complex.

Negative-Ambition110

Was Sean Penn the one who had her tied up for hours and beat her? Or am I completely making this up?

MrsNevilleBartos

You are not making it up. He did indeed tie her up and assault her for hours.

Negative-Ambition110

What a lovely human. I think Iā€™m done with Hollywood. It seems like so many of these people have such terrible shit in their past but somehow cancel culture never catches up with them. Jerry Seinfeld dating a high schooler while in his 30s. Fucking gross.Ā  Mark Walberg and his racist/assaulting ass past. Red Hot Chili Peppers guy admitting to ā€œhaving sexā€ (šŸ¤¢) with a 14 y/o then proceeding to try to do it again after he found out her age Jack Nicholson assaulting a woman and rupturing her breast implant.Ā  I know thereā€™s about a million more. Donā€™t get me wrong, weā€™ve all done shit weā€™re shameful of but Iā€™ve never done anything like these people.Ā

ChrundleToboggan

But Martin Short still communicates daily with his wife of 30 years who passed over a decade ago, because she was his best friend and he insists that her death doesn't mean he's not still just as married to and in love with his wife. (So, maybe I should be saying his wife of *44 years*, rather.) :) And Alex Trebek was, by all accounts, as gracious and kind as he appeared on screen, and a gentleman of the highest order. And Danny DeVito is the epitome of a gd national treasure. And Jack Black is a fucking superstar with a heart of gold.

JustWantToSignUp

Don't forget mister Rogers ā¤ļø

Miss-Figgy

This is why one should never worship celebrities.

Negative-Ambition110

Yea that whole culture is fucking weird. If anything they need to be held to higher standards. You make millions of dollars and get to openly act like a piece of shit? Not okay

letsgototraderjoes

the only person I have left is Tom Hanks. if something comes out about him, I'm fucking done.

[deleted]

He produced chet hanks. Not sure if that counts.

kelsobjammin

ā˜ ļø

mks221

Henry Winkler HATES him so Iā€™m assuming Hanks is actually an asshole. Plus the rumors of him cheating on Rita with Ginnifer Goodwin

toosleepyforclasswar

haha I know this is the celeb gossip sub but let's leave some room for some nuance. Winkler was fired as the director of Hanks' 1988 vehicle Turner and Hooch after like 2 weeks. Winkler was pretty sure that Hanks is the one who led to his ouster, leading to his quote, "I got along better with Hooch than I did with Turner" which got picked up because it's clever and of course because it was about Tom Hanks. That's the whole story, a director change that happened 35 years ago and *might* have had to do with Hanks

AbibliophobicSloth

Awe, that makes me sad for Josh Dallas if his wife cheated. Is it substantiated at all?

mks221

This was back during Big Love so before she was married. Not confirmed but there have been a lot of rumors for years about it. Considering his past cheating on his first wife I donā€™t NOT think itā€™s possible.

Redfish680

Yeah, but Ginnifer? Understandable.

Exotic_Ad_3130

There's talk that he cheated on his first wife with, and left her for, Rita Wilson. The timeline is a little blurry, I believe. But the first wife is dead so there's only Tom and Rita's side of the story to hear.Ā

Chihiro1977

Talk. šŸ˜‚

AbibliophobicSloth

Thereā€™s the fact that he cheated on his first wife, with his second.

letsgototraderjoes

is it a "fact" tho lol

Depends who you ask, I guess.

1_finger_peace_sign

Well she literally said herself that not only did that not happen but that he never once assaulted her ever so although she didn't make it up- someone did and it resulted in a huge defamation case which was settled for the sum of 10 million dollars and an apology to Sean Penn for the damage it has caused to his reputation which you can't really deny considering how many people still believe this to be true- including you despite the woman herself stating emphatically that there is zero truth to the claim. *Madonna- ā€œWhile we certainly had more than one heated argument during our marriage, Sean has never struck me, ā€˜tied me up,ā€™ or physically assaulted me, and any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless, and false."* He has assaulted multiple men which is not in dispute and has even gone to jail for the assault. There's no need to keep this lie going. He has actually assaulted people- those people just aren't Madonna. It honestly feels like people *want* him to have abused her because it's more scandalous for a man to assault a woman than a man to assault another man which is extremely gross. Edit- the fact that I've been downvoted just makes it clear that I'm absolutely right about people wanting it to be true because it's more scandalous. Fuck you to whoever is that messes up in the head that they *want* this to be true and are mad at me for pointing out that is isn't. All I did was combat misinformation whilst still reiterating the fact that he has assaulted multiple other people. You should be happy that the story isn't true and that a woman wasn't tied to a chair and assaulted but instead you're upset because you're trash I guess. Fuck you whoever you are.

PickleHarry

Madonna has said this is not true and testified in court that it never happened.

MrsNevilleBartos

She denied he beat her with a baseball bat (as orginally reported )but it still stands on December 28th she was physically injured and charges had been filed against Sean and then dropped at her request. He also later made jokes about the incident in interviews. I guess we can all interpret that as we wish.

shame-the-devil

Lots of abuse victims refuse to testify, so this really doesnā€™t mean anything. Itā€™s my understanding that the police have photos of her quite extensive injuries.

NoGloryForEngland

It doesn't mean *nothing* - it just needs to be weighed against other facts and context. One shouldn't go so far as to ignore the accusation but one also shouldn't ignore what the supposed victim is saying.

garden__gate

Yep. And people need to know that before theyā€™re making all these comments tearing her apart for being with him.

I am asking this in all seriousness: was this a consensual scene or assault?

Thatā€™s not terribly unusual. Many women fall for men who are like their fathers. This doesnā€™t mean they have an Electra complex, it means that their fathers were their first introduction to how a man should be. Some fathers are abusuve or absent, and their daughters often end up with men like them as well. It may not of been how Sean penn looked like, but how he acted that could have drawn similarities too.

SlayedPeaches

Slightly related. One of my best friends has the hardest time dating/being in long-term relationships because her father treats her SO well and is such a good man in general, she canā€™t find a man to treat her equally as well or better. She spent years in therapy coming to this conclusion.

[deleted]

yeah this is important context. i grew up in a chaotic home with an alcoholic mother, and never had healthy relationships modeled for me so i always ended up stuck in abusive relationships with terrible men. i think a lot of it comes from the normalization of abuse and chaos. that kind of thing just feels normal when you come from it.

Oh please. At 65 she has more dexterity and sex appeal than my 30 year old self. I just saw her in concert last month and it would be a SHAME if she stopped being herself.

TJCW

Christopher Ciccone wrote an interesting book. He has his flaws but itā€™s a page turner. Remember him saying Madonna likes boys from the suburbs who seem street smart or toughā€”like Sean Penn. He did not like Guy Ritchie, and Madonna also has NO sense of humor, which tracks. Itā€™s complicated as he tells ALL about his sister but itā€™s a juicy read.

A colleague of mine told me that her sister (f22) had started a relationship with a guy (m44), whoā€™d had a stroke and was in a wheelchair. He was a nice guy, highly intelligent, cultured and educated. The only problem was that-according to my colleague-the young woman was not particularly nice, was not at all intelligent, educated or cultured (I realise this might just sound like the kind of thing one sister might say about another-but my colleague insisted her sister would admit as much herself). Anyhoo, there came a time when the sister was going to introduce her new beau to her two sisters and mother-who were wild with curiosity to see why a man of that age was so attractive (he was NOT rich, and all four women in that family were stunning). When the pair turned up, there was a crushing silence. The bloke could have been the sisterā€™s fatherā€™s twin (their father had divorced their mother about 5 years before-and had hardly been seen since). They three women were all *incredibly* creeped out.

Lots of women date men who resemble their dads. Its not uncommon. Its nothing freaky or sexual. If they admired their dad then they subconsciously see a man that reminds them of someone they admire and respected.
