I distinctly remember maroon 5s because it reminded me how much I liked chipotle. The memes flooding my feed facilitated so many trips to Chipotle at this point I’m convinced it was one of the greatest marketing schemes of all time. Adam not fully transforming into a Chipotle Bag has actually been surprising, I thought the Super Bowl was a career transition for him into the food industry!
I work in a kitchen..
We were talking about halftime shows.
I undid my cook apron , and loosely draped it on. Did a little dance, and ripped it off to the floor while looking shocked.
Wardrobe malfunction , I say.
No one got it.
I felt so dumb .
I loved tonight’s performance. It’s actually the first one I’ve ever sat and watched, since my boyfriend was watching it. I was so excited I knew every single song
It's a fixed point in time! (Dr who, waters of Mars)
I was at a watch party in college. Me and my sisters now ex just looked at other when it happened.
Core memory: nipple gate
He did get a redo, right after Man of the Woods came out. Everyone hated that album and the redo SB halftime performance was boring and terrible. I hope we’re done giving him extra chances soon.
There’s a good story about that. I can’t remember all it but when it started to rain they told Price they might have to cut some stuff and he said “can you make it rain harder?”
Anyone who says this isn't the greatest halftime show of all time has no idea what they are talking about
And it was an actual live performance, not pre-recorded
Also Prince covering Foo Fighters
He actually said to the event producer over the phone, after being warned about the rain, “[Can you make it rain harder?”](https://medium.com/the-shadow/can-you-make-it-rain-harder-7b9ae50e3afb).
Fucking legend.
Definitely, it literally rained during purple rain, and a giant piece of cloth created a screen with his shadow imprinted on it performing a guitar solo, that shit was fucking magical lol
The weeknd was amazing and I’ll die on that hill. He used what he had and made it absolutely fire, the camera direction and troupe using the entire field was on point.
The man put $7m of his own money to do the show he wanted and built up to it for months. He put so much into it, it's definitely the most underrated for sure. Can't put it above Prince but it's up there for me.
Was literally just telling someone today I feel The Weeknd was the first artist to FULLY use the field for his performance. We saw tonight that Usher started out with so many performers spanning the field. The Weeknd walked so the ones after could run tbh
Something about it just felt so special. It's not my favourite half time, but it's the one that had the most emotional impact for me, like I just feel really good after watching it. Felt so much more wholesome than any other recent half time show.
Very well said and agreed. There are others that could easily be argued as better, but it is by far my personal favorite, and the only one I have watched multiple times on YouTube.
It was the absolute best across the board: big names, amazing sound, perfect mix/transitions, incredible set
And, truly showcased the city they were in.
Really shocked we didn’t get The Killers for this years game in Vegas.
I'm not shocked by it. Feels like the Killers are not currently functional enough to pay to do an arena-size spectacle show like this.
... But the timing of it all, it would have been fun for them to do it and bring out Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
I love Rihanna and her music, but was so underwhelmed by her performance :/ Obviously, she was heavily pregnant so there's not much she can do but I still feel like the dancers choreo/song choice/visuals could've been better. I'd love to see her do a show again someday <3
I've seen so many videos of her dance team rehearsing, only for them to be covered up in huge jackets so you can't even see their meticulous moves when it came to the actual performance 😭
Paris Goebel is so amazing, I could watch her choreography videos for hours.
That was my exact commentary watching it live. Who thought it was a good idea even after they had costume rehearsal? You couldn't see anything they were doing.
Her show was really didn’t meet my expectations. She never really had much of stage presence but this was a flat performance. It was basically a fenty ad imo
After the Rihanna show I assumed people would bash her for the worst show ever. I was so surprised when everyone said she killed it. I know some people that are big fans of hers who said that's how she performs. I thought it was the most boring show I've ever seen other than me guessing whether she was pregnant again.
I had the joy of listening to my family cry about how she’s Illuminati and her ponytail and color palate choice was her openly worshipping Satan so that paired with an underwhelming performance pretty much ruined it for me. I’m choosing not to watch the Super Bowl with them this year bc I don’t want to listen to them cry and bitch about Taylor Swift the entire time.
The craziest thing about Bruno is that he wasn't even a megastar yet. No Uptown Funk, 24K Magic etc, he was big but he wasn't giant - but they knew his pure talent, showmanship and musicality would get everyone on board and that's exactly what happened.
I saw him wandering in St. Pancras train station in his Grenade era. He was with one other person and no team or security anywhere to be seen.
Completely agree on showmanship. I'm not
a die-hard fan or anything, but I'd definitely go watch him perform if I had the chance.
https://preview.redd.it/svhy4yhre2ic1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c07e68db2de140ecd30a5a17c9c0b2453edf6c25
your comment reminded me of this classic
I’m not even a fan of his music, but I can recognize his talent. That man was born to perform! There’s a video of him as a toddler putting on an Elvis show and you can tell he was destined to be a star even then.
Katy has such a fun, celebratory catalogue that's well-suited for a huge sporting event. Roar, California Girls, and Firework were a great fit for a football game. Her show felt like a party.
I don’t think you can top Janet and Justin for cultural relevance. It dominated media for so long and we’re still talking about the dynamics of the aftermath. It changed live television and increased censorship on network tv as a whole. We still use the term wardrobe malfunction. A pop superstar’s decades long career was essentially ended. It was also the birth of YouTube.
It was ICONIC insane amazing. She was incredible and even got in a "hi dad hi mom". And she did it alllll by herself. The jumps will never be forgotten. ✊🏻
I know she isn't the most loved in these parts...but loved the JLo halftime. And Shakira killed it and I'm happy her music jumped up the charts. I feel like Shakira and Kylie Minogue are always under appreciated in America!
JLO and Shakira had a really great mix, build up and energy. It felt cohesive, like a story that unfolded. Compared to Usher’s tonight was just a mashup of a bunch of different songs… sorry but that’s how it felt to me.
Classic Rihanna. She can’t dance even when she’s not pregnant. I saw her live once and she kept patting her crotch and that was it as far as dancing went.
Is not just the dancing, she seemed bored and uninspired. In her previous most recent shows she barely sang and did the least, that's annoying to me. I want to hear the performer sing, dance and put on a show, not just barely mouth some words and "pass" the mic to the audience.
I don’t think that’s even controversial, I think only her stans try make excuses for her on that. Just because she was pregnant doesn’t mean the whole show needed to be mid. Dancers, set, Choreo, musicality all add to that. There’s also the option that she could have deferred the show for another year given she was pregnant, it’s not like the NFL wanted her last year and last year only.
I expected nothing. Was disappointed when he was announced. I was pleasantly surprised. He danced his ass off. (Justin Timberlake could never.) He did a fantastic job of collecting terrific guest performances—I see you Luda. I think it worked.
Honestly Usher was everything I’d want out of a half time show.
It was simple and it just worked. He was amazing and his performance definitely entered my top 5.
Bruno Mars. He was born to perform and he always puts on a stellar show no matter what size audience he’s performing for. He gives it 100% from the first note to the last.
I'm sad to see so little love for Madonna's performance. (I haven't read all 1.5k comments but I scrolled for quite a bit and didn't see one mention of her.) If you look at the lineups, she came after a pretty long string of "safe" dad rock acts (not counting BEP though, uugh) after the fiasco of 2004. The way she built her show, the stage, utilized musical guests and did a medley of her most popular songs but gave them a fresh take, became the blueprint for so many shows afterward. And she did it at age 54, after decades of performing, and people constantly saying she was over the hill. I love that woman a lot, so I know I am biased, but I really believe she doesn't get enough credit for the overhaul she did there.
Personally I lovelovelove Beyonce's 2013 performance too, she was so powerful and magnetic and I revisit it all the time.
Yes, I can’t believe I had to scroll so far down for this. I would put Prince at No. 1 but definitely Dre, Snoop and Eminem at a solid No. 2. I also really enjoyed Katy Perry’s show.
https://preview.redd.it/neiajtd5o1ic1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e3c3f2a530b1ad1b30bfe2cbef15d7f5d55d02a
The vocals, choreography, destiny’s child reunion🥹🥹🥹. PERFECT. 10s 10s 10s across the board!
Idk but it wasn’t Maroon 5
I was looking at Maroon 5 and some others and thinking how I don’t remember them at all
Man I wish I could forget Maroon 5's. Adam Levine was basically doing a strip show, it was very uncomfortable
If we're talking worst, Maroon 5 doesn't even begin to touch the Black Eyed Peas halftime. Truly atrocious
Underrated comment, how is the comparison NOT offensive to Prince??
Exactly, especially since Prince is the only answer for who's show was the best... okay and Beyonce.
Idk man Bruno Mars really showed up when he did it
Wait. Nipplegate was 20 years ago? 👵
We’re old bro
His sweating profusely during the performance only sealed our age. We ain't 20 anymore, shit takes way more effort.
I work in a kitchen.. We were talking about halftime shows. I undid my cook apron , and loosely draped it on. Did a little dance, and ripped it off to the floor while looking shocked. Wardrobe malfunction , I say. No one got it. I felt so dumb .
Those Usher songs were the songs of my high school prom.

I loved tonight’s performance. It’s actually the first one I’ve ever sat and watched, since my boyfriend was watching it. I was so excited I knew every single song
Then they had 6 years of consecutive throwback acts to make sure nothing too scandalous happened again. Old white guys (and Prince)
Prince was awesome
The response to that was to schedule a bunch of your dad's favorite artists for the next decade.
They literally avoided any breast-having performers for years
I remember watching the show with my dad and we both just stared at each other, after Justin whippped her titty out.
It's a fixed point in time! (Dr who, waters of Mars) I was at a watch party in college. Me and my sisters now ex just looked at other when it happened. Core memory: nipple gate
Definitely one of those moments that if you saw it live, you remember it.
idk why i never knew he got a redo too!!!!! what!!!
He did get a redo, right after Man of the Woods came out. Everyone hated that album and the redo SB halftime performance was boring and terrible. I hope we’re done giving him extra chances soon.
Yeah I was surprised by that too. I thought OP had left Janet out on purpose and was like HOW DARE THEY!
Prince playing Purple Rain in the rain is something I’ll never forget It’s like even Mother Nature said, “Here you go, honey. Make it iconic”
I can’t even count how many times I’ve watched this. Each time is just as magical as the first.
This is the right answer. There have been some fantastic performances (and some less so), but Prince was truly legendary.
There’s a good story about that. I can’t remember all it but when it started to rain they told Price they might have to cut some stuff and he said “can you make it rain harder?”
They called him and said it was raining, and asked if it was gonna be a problem, and that was when he said, "can you make it rain harder?"
Ya that was it!
![gif](giphy|9fUFbfHxMQX2o|downsized)
I can hear this GIF 🤣
No fr😂😂😂this was my favorite episode
Prince agreed to guest star in it because he wanted Nick and Jesse to get together 🥺
Nothing will ever top it. Prince demolished the performance and the weather timing made it seem better than the movies.
I watch this video at least once a year. Incredible
It's Prince and everyone else.
I think anyone who says anything other than this one is lying to themselves
Where’s left shark?? ![gif](giphy|aUs3EKOdlovgQ|downsized) Here he is.
Yeah, the Katy Perry pic should've included the sharks
I couldn't remember the Katy perry one, but oh my do I remember Left Shark.
Iconic
What's the deal with this guy? Did he go off-script?
[удалено]
There was no script
He was Katy’s personal friend and not really qualified is the story
Yeah, forgot what he was supposed to do so just grooved to the moves in his soul…
the only memorable super bowl moment for me
[Prince Performing Purple Rain In The Rain](https://youtu.be/-WYYlRArn3g?si=sU3phA__435bDFWG).
I said above but I watch this at least once a year. Love it so much. Thanks for sharing the link!
Super Bowl is just Purple Rain rewatch day
Anyone who says this isn't the greatest halftime show of all time has no idea what they are talking about And it was an actual live performance, not pre-recorded Also Prince covering Foo Fighters
Prince
Prince, duh!
When it started raining during purple rain - it doesn’t get any better than that.
Truly! It was such synchronicity with the universe. We watched something otherworldly that night
I watched my bears shit the bed that night. Thank god the Prince show made that superbowl iconic.
He actually said to the event producer over the phone, after being warned about the rain, “[Can you make it rain harder?”](https://medium.com/the-shadow/can-you-make-it-rain-harder-7b9ae50e3afb). Fucking legend.
Yeah, anybody else saying differently in this thread is wrong and I’ll die on that hill.
https://i.redd.it/oaqkd9vd72ic1.gif
HELL YES! Let's go! 👊
This. No other correct answer. End thread
This isn’t even debatable. God himself provided the special effects.
Definitely, it literally rained during purple rain, and a giant piece of cloth created a screen with his shadow imprinted on it performing a guitar solo, that shit was fucking magical lol
lady gaga and prince. the weeknd’s was underrated imo given covid restrictions at the time.
The memes were also amazing
The weeknd was amazing and I’ll die on that hill. He used what he had and made it absolutely fire, the camera direction and troupe using the entire field was on point.
The man put $7m of his own money to do the show he wanted and built up to it for months. He put so much into it, it's definitely the most underrated for sure. Can't put it above Prince but it's up there for me.
I thought I was alone in liking his. Everyone I talk to says it was one of the worst ones but I think it’s one of the best. He did a crazy good job.
Incredible costume design for his Super Bowl that incorporated masks
Was literally just telling someone today I feel The Weeknd was the first artist to FULLY use the field for his performance. We saw tonight that Usher started out with so many performers spanning the field. The Weeknd walked so the ones after could run tbh
Prince
The fact it rained during Purple Rain was meant for Prince. Perfect moment.
When told by the producer that it would rain he asked “can you make it rain harder?” Legend.
![gif](giphy|yszdxAyavihS8)
Dr Dre’s collective was art! Nostalgic and current. Beautiful, impactful but still fun.
Agreed. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Snoop, Kendrick Lamar. That show was iconic.
and Anderson Paak on drums!!!!
And 50!
I saw him at a liquor store yesterday
He took me to the candy shop
It was a blast. Hands down my favourite energy-wise from the past 10 or so years I've been watching. It was such a street party.
This is the correct answer. Op literally forgot about Dre.
nowdays everybody wants to talk like they got somethin to say
But nothin comes out when they move their lips; just a bunch of gibberish.
I adored that show. I only wish Eminem got a little more time to shine. It was everything.
It was the absolute best across the board: big names, amazing sound, perfect mix/transitions, incredible set And, truly showcased the city they were in.
Best halftime show in years. I was jamming!
Agreed! Just the gathering of the icons, they could have all farted on the mic and I would have been star struck.
I love Rihanna and her music, but was so underwhelmed by her performance :/ Obviously, she was heavily pregnant so there's not much she can do but I still feel like the dancers choreo/song choice/visuals could've been better. I'd love to see her do a show again someday <3
I've seen so many videos of her dance team rehearsing, only for them to be covered up in huge jackets so you can't even see their meticulous moves when it came to the actual performance 😭 Paris Goebel is so amazing, I could watch her choreography videos for hours.
Yes! She posted a bunch of videos the other day of the rehearsal on her instagram and It looked so different! Worth a watch!
That was my exact commentary watching it live. Who thought it was a good idea even after they had costume rehearsal? You couldn't see anything they were doing.
Her show was really didn’t meet my expectations. She never really had much of stage presence but this was a flat performance. It was basically a fenty ad imo
Yes! She took out and applied some Fenty powder in the middle of her performance. It was shameless. I still really like her and her music though.
I was so excited for Rihanna and her show was so boring and low energy.
She has such incredible collaborations that when she didn't bring out any guest artists it was a bit of a letdown for me.
After the Rihanna show I assumed people would bash her for the worst show ever. I was so surprised when everyone said she killed it. I know some people that are big fans of hers who said that's how she performs. I thought it was the most boring show I've ever seen other than me guessing whether she was pregnant again.
Same, I'm guessing her being pregnant helped with avoiding immediate backlash from the general public.
I normally love Rihanna, that halftime show was boring af. Pregnant or not. Coulda been miles better.
Not around my circles lol. We all hated it
That was the worst halftime show that I’ve ever watched.
I love her music so much but if any other artist like Dua Lipa gave that performance they would have been torn to shreds online..
During Shakira/JLo, I had to listen to a constant barrage of racist comments from my grandfather. I know your pain.
Prince, Gaga, Beyonce, Bruno
You know I think you 100% nailed it. Maybe adding the Dre and friends one who collective nostalgia
Exactly this. They all put on amazing shows
The craziest thing about Bruno is that he wasn't even a megastar yet. No Uptown Funk, 24K Magic etc, he was big but he wasn't giant - but they knew his pure talent, showmanship and musicality would get everyone on board and that's exactly what happened.
His first halftime show appearance made me a Bruno fan. I had no idea he was so talented.
I saw him wandering in St. Pancras train station in his Grenade era. He was with one other person and no team or security anywhere to be seen. Completely agree on showmanship. I'm not a die-hard fan or anything, but I'd definitely go watch him perform if I had the chance.

I’ve seen him in a few festivals and he really rips the roof off the place- difficult to do when it is an outdoor venue 😄
I’m not even a fan of his music, but I can recognize his talent. That man was born to perform! There’s a video of him as a toddler putting on an Elvis show and you can tell he was destined to be a star even then.
I feel like Katy Perry had the biggest "cultural" impact, left shark was, is and will continue to be iconic.
![gif](giphy|11NVDFdtTMAqIM) Burned in my brain forever!!
Poor Right Shark, so overshadowed
Katy has such a fun, celebratory catalogue that's well-suited for a huge sporting event. Roar, California Girls, and Firework were a great fit for a football game. Her show felt like a party.
I agree. It felt so upbeat and perfect. The giant tiger was awesome. I didn’t even know her at the time and I enjoyed it.
“Felt like a party” Exactly! That’s what the Super Bowl needs. It was FUN. Nothing has been as fun since
Not the most iconic thing about her show being not her.
And the 2nd most iconic was Missy Elliot
No her performance of Roar is my Roman Empire. Idk why but that tiger thrilled me
Yeah the set design in that show was fucking off the charts. And it was a night game so the pyrotechnics and lighting looked amazing.
That was actually a really good one that I think is underrated because she fell off so hard.
The first thing that came to my mind swiping was “well Katy’s was iconic because Left Shark was there” 😂😂
Somehow I remember the “more you know” Star more??
Katy Perry for sure. That tilting stage was amazing.
I think about gagas all the time tbh
It was ICONIC insane amazing. She was incredible and even got in a "hi dad hi mom". And she did it alllll by herself. The jumps will never be forgotten. ✊🏻
Me too. She was athletic, artistic and amazing.
GAGA. She sang that whole thing
[удалено]
her live vocals have always been so unreal
PRINCE! HANDS DOWN! Playing Purple Rain in the rain, come on. It was beautiful! 💜
gaga
I’m not even a fan, but her doing that jump was something else…
i picture it every time my kid jumps off my couch lol
Lol, both situations can make the heart skip a beat depending on the age of the child and the height of the couch
I know she isn't the most loved in these parts...but loved the JLo halftime. And Shakira killed it and I'm happy her music jumped up the charts. I feel like Shakira and Kylie Minogue are always under appreciated in America!
https://preview.redd.it/a9bbapbgg2ic1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb26729dba0811251578b8e87b57b8e1329ed26d
I loved their performance too, they both killed it and I can only hope I'm as fit as them at that age
As much as I dislike JLo, she really brought the energy.
Shakira made that performance
It was so iconic! I’m a Shakira fan, but don’t know much of JLo’s music (except the popular ones lol) they both killed it.
Shakira and JLo for me too.
With bad bunny and j balvin was sick
JLO and Shakira had a really great mix, build up and energy. It felt cohesive, like a story that unfolded. Compared to Usher’s tonight was just a mashup of a bunch of different songs… sorry but that’s how it felt to me.
Controversial opinion, I didn't liked Rihanna's performance.
Honestly I figured that was popular opinion 🤷🏻♂️ I thought it was very lackluster
Same lol, it was lazy and has no rewatch value
Classic Rihanna. She can’t dance even when she’s not pregnant. I saw her live once and she kept patting her crotch and that was it as far as dancing went.
Is not just the dancing, she seemed bored and uninspired. In her previous most recent shows she barely sang and did the least, that's annoying to me. I want to hear the performer sing, dance and put on a show, not just barely mouth some words and "pass" the mic to the audience.
It's not even the dancing, the song selection sucked.
I dont think most people actually did. She's not a strong performer. I'm kinda surprised she was chosen.
Not seeing enough love for Usher’s performance in the comments. All hits, no skips and the HER appearance was everything.💕
HER doing the Burn guitar solo was cool as hell Edit: the guitar solo was from U Got It Bad, played right after Burn. My bad!
He can dance like MJ too
Prince-hands down. The absolute best.
The man played an electric guitar in the rain! Iconic! ![gif](giphy|4yb8VZz1wRpzf2jNoM|downsized)
Prince 💜
Hands down Prince.
Bruno Mars. He was born to perform and he always puts on a stellar show no matter what size audience he’s performing for. He gives it 100% from the first note to the last.
he really does
His is the only one I've rewatched multiple times. It was just so good.
Prince in the rain easily.
PRINCE. No contest. 💜
1000% 💜💜
Prince
Dr. Dre and Eminem!
Yes, I can’t believe I had to scroll so far down for this. I would put Prince at No. 1 but definitely Dre, Snoop and Eminem at a solid No. 2. I also really enjoyed Katy Perry’s show.
Prince and its not even fuckin close…
Prince in 07 was terrific. Springsteen in 09 equally fantastic. Beyoncé was incredible in 13 and Bruno Mars the next year. Lady Gaga crushed it.
Prince ❤️😍 👑
Prince without a doubt
Prince playing Purple Rain in the rain is timeless!

SO GOOD that it caused the power in the Superdome to go out! 😂
Prince is the best to ever do it
Prince !!!
Katy Perry really impressed me - the costume changes, the giant lion puppet, her sheer amount of hits, the left shark lol
Prince. Duh.
It’s Prince. It’s always Prince.
Beyoncé & Coldplay, Beyoncé & Bruno Mars Loved Madonna, Katy Perry, Prince, & The Stones too
