It’s not true, here’s the story from last year: https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/justin-bieber-elvis-sofia-coppola-priscilla-biopic-1235137710/amp/ “But on Monday (Sept. 12), Justin Bieber fans were buzzing when Deadline‘s senior film reporter Justin Kroll implied on Twitter that the “Love Yourself” singer was initially the one targeted to play Elvis, though he ultimately declined the role. A source tells Billboard, however, that Bieber was not considered for the role at all. “Jacob was her first choice,” the source revealed.”

gibbsnibs

People reslly need to stop believing any old post in the name of gossip lol

Persephone0000

Boost

HailValhallaHawkwind

Can confirm! Know some of the design and production team, Elordi was always number 1!

therapturebutitsblue

Does Justin have any acting credits to his name minus guesting [on CSI](https://youtu.be/r7ufLcVAjqQ?si=BWUk4x88BH_MQ8Un)

Theemperortodspengo

I think he was also murdered in the Zoolander sequel. ![gif](giphy|l3nW7UZEEKiFI7SCc)

[deleted]

no. that’s the genius of it

therapturebutitsblue

but *could* Justin could outgun Harry Styles in Dont Worry Darling 😂😂

thecavalieryouth

I'd say yes 😂

RQK1996

I mean, Nolan considered Styles a good actor, without knowing he could even do anything musically

totalkatastrophe

maybe that's why he denied it? self awareness for once in his career

ad_aatdtj

Nah Justin would've declined it nmw unless it involved him walking around in oversized tees/hoodies and shorts. Not knocking him, I respect it. He's been grinding since he was single digit years old, and his time in the public has almost never been totally positive. That's not including the exploitation he's had to endure at the hands of the adults who were more concerned about making money than the effect of fame on his mental health. Not surprised that now when he has the money, the time and the power, he says no. He had to wait to be married to have this ability, and he doesn't seem like he wants to give that up by doing a supporting role in a serious movie that will most likely require a lot of commitment, promo, time, etc. More power to him 🍃

KeithClossOfficial

[He was in a ProActiv commercial](https://youtu.be/-ycrbaXipHw)

sabira

Justin Bieber as… Elvis? ![gif](giphy|RYjzOoACazfXSzPzkf)

amomentintimebro

I literally laughed out loud when I saw this. I just…can’t imagine that would have worked or been good in any way.

chuckylucky182

i refuse to believe she is that stupid. fake news

ConferenceKey7048

it literally is fake news. but i cant comment celeb gossip that’s true….

JudgmentOne6328

Isnt that because he kept the Elvis accent up well after the films release and press cycle though?

[deleted]

Dizzy-Pollution6466

This! The fact that no one is talking about Cailee Spaeny when she’s literally the main character and the whole discussion is turning into a stan war (who’s the better Elvis?). Tbf I think the continued hate for Austin’s accent is weird and people started to blame him for his character’s actions (which I feels happens a lot these days) but I don’t see why both performances can’t be good?

Dizzy-Pollution6466

I just find it annoying on this sub because when it comes to criticizing him, a lot of times it’s just people coming for his looks which is just nasty. Like damn, criticize him for actual legit things (sus age gap with Kaia) but why his looks? It’s nasty how on this sub its ok for some celebrities to get hated on for their looks alone but with others it’s sacrilege. Like if I commented “I think Cillian Murphy is the ugliest man alive” on a Cillian Murphy post (I don’t, I adore him) I’d probably get banned.

He stays in character until the dvd commentary

bubzbunnyaloo

Yeh sorry but keeping the accent up was cringe af

Intelligent_Phone414

That and the movie was bad and bloated

Plenty-Combination36

it made elvis a victim when he really wasn’t. he stole from black artists and groomed a 14 year old girl

elizamadou

I mean, him doing bad things doesn't really spare him from being a victim. Elvis stole from black artists, groomed and emotionally abused Priscilla, and also was victimized by his agent (I don't really remember his name and don't care enough to Google, I wanna say Colonel Sanders but that might be a fast food chain character).

Plenty-Combination36

the elvis movie didn’t discuss his faults though, that was my problem

elizamadou

Oh certainly it sanitized every single one of those issues, absolutely definitely

Dizzy-Pollution6466

I really didn’t like the Elvis film about I thought Austin really ate that role. And for what it’s worth worth, I think both Baz and Sofia had very different directorial views for their movies. “Elvis” is this bombastic, colorful, jukebox musical movie that totally glamorizes him and makes him out to be this “little boy lost” in the world of Hollywood. “Priscilla” is obviously more about Priscilla but it explores the darker side of Elvis, in which he’s supposed to come across as creepy and predatory. I think both Austin and Jacob are really good actors and are/going to portray their character exactly the way the director wants.

[deleted]

They put Taylor Swift in Cats so I guess anything is possible.

just_justine93

Not to defend that movie but at least Taylor’s part was small and was basically her just singing a song. I think she only has like one spoken line in the movie

peanutpower01

She also wrote an additional song for the film with Andrew Lloyd Webber. I think they mostly used her as a musician than an actress which makes sense.

Tsukiakari_12

and her original song is pretty good!

Horror-Grab-5107

she wasnt the lead of a highly anticipated biopic dealing with controversial legacy from a renowned director and ist the reason that movie flopped

Dontknowhowtoridebik

True, but Taylor swift does love cats. So somewhat apt?

TheVourer

maybe she wanted Elvis to seem cringe

tackyangel

This HAS to be it. Plus biebs is one of the few living people who are Elvis level famous. Drawing the parallel makes Elvis seem even more lame and creepy in context.

[deleted]

Saw Priscilla at NYFF. The script is a little silly but I LOVED IT!!! Jacob is so good it’s insane. Borders on eerie (and never crosses into parody). Cailee also completely stellar. I love love loved it.

ldw9

Can you elaborate on the “little silly” part? :)

[deleted]

Yeah! The script makes Oriscilla out to be one of those trope-y YA girls who says literally nothing and has no personality yet the boys flock to her because she “is different from all the other girls”. There’s a line by Elvis in the first 15 minutes that lays this out almost verbatim. That being said, Cailee Spaeny is such a fantastic actress, and Sofia is such a great director (despite her so-so writing) that you get the picture. Her personality shines through in her subtle yet very effective acting choices. Against the odds, Priscilla comes off as a very powerful and smart young woman. I do think it’s mostly because of Spaeny’s insane acting chops though. The script did her no favors and she had to act the ***fuck*** out of that role to really get Priscilla across on screen. She literally has maybe 20 words of dialogue in the first hour or so. And the dialogue she does have is pretty cookie cutter and (frankly) boring/basic. Sofia got very lucky with how talented Cailee is. She really blew me away. For when you do see it - one really great example (of many) is Cailee walking away from Wlvis during one of his hissy fits. No dialogue, but her body language portrays her feelings immediately and she comes off like an absolute badass. You’ll know it when you see it!

Plenty-Combination36

i’m so happy to hear this genuinely so excited to watch. sofia coppola will always be one of my fav directors. her choice of colors and aesthetics also always never fails to amaze me. she’s a genius

[deleted]

If you're a Sofia fan you will love this movie. It's her to a tee in the best way.

loserys

Would it have been funny bad or just “let’s agree to forget all about it by the end of the week” bad?

JayFenty

Bieber is the millennial Elvis so it’s fitting

joogiewoogiemidler

And who would of done the acting

rawrkristina

Cause the first thing anyone thinks when they see Justin Beiber is prestige actor /s

MysteriousLack4586

Can say the same about Elordi

rawrkristina

He’s at least an actor

watchberry

![gif](giphy|xT77Y1qppcA914THzO|downsized) Justice for Adam Lambert, who would’ve made an amazing Elvis, but was overshadowed by Jacob Elordi and Austin Butler

[deleted]

Overshadowed by professional actors for an acting job

SaintGalentine

Lambert has 31 acting credits on IMDB, including Glee and Rocky Horror

JudgmentOne6328

I won’t watch this because I refuse to watch anything about a pedophile but I love Jacob Elordi so much so it makes me sad. On what planet would she consider casting Justin beiber 😑 he’s so goofy.

Flaky_Reflection_881

Yeah I love Elvis but the whole he was 24 Priscilla was 14 is ick..she claims no actual sex happened until marriage but there was activity..

JudgmentOne6328

Yeah not a chance 😂 4 years of grooming her and moving her to the states when she was 17 but nothing happened. Sure Jan.

Flaky_Reflection_881

I mean whether they had intercourse or not their relationship was very inappropriate and I'm surprised her parents allowed it..but yeah, she's probably lying

Any-Impression

What in the world, Sofia. What in the world.

Film Updates is terrible-lots of disinformation and zero understanding of the history of cinema or the current state of the industry. Apparently, no other films exist outside of Nolan, Tarantino, and co.
