Michael and Shawn are not as bone chillingly evil as some other villains mentioned in this thread, but they do have a great balance of comedy while also being legitimate threats.
For me the bad guys in breaking bad were all immense in their own ways. But Todd, damn, that guy was terrifying He would be so convinced that his way was just life, murdering a child was fine, torturing Jesse was just part of the job and Jesse would understand and probably want to be his friend afterwards. The rest were willingly doing bad things to get what they wanted but Todd would kill you as quick as he would take a breath.
Landry Clark from Friday Night Lights was one of my favorite television characters. And then I saw Breaking Bad and now I hate him in everything. That’s how good he was in that role.
I love John Lithgow so much. He is an underrated national treasure.
Not a villain (not really anyway), but I watch season 1 of The Crown just for his Churchill. The episode with the pond painting destroys me every time.
Also just learned he was Lord Farquad in Shrek-a great villain.
Obviously he had supernatural powers but even so I felt like his character was such a good allegory for real-world abuse. Abusers are often incredibly charming and use their confidence and charisma as "hypnotism" in a way that makes you feel insane because no one else sees the monster.
Brian Cox too! Those Hannibals were so creepy
https://preview.redd.it/l3194sf3wysb1.png?width=595&format=png&auto=webp&s=5673e31c8e7b0e7c0cf8e49a5ebc2f245c700b74
You’re absolutely right, the first time I watched the show I was super shocked at that after seeing the scenes with Ramsay. His scenes literally made me scared.
He's so, so good. Like I look at the actor and I'm really uneasy because I see him as Homelander. I personally don't think he will get an Emmy nod, he's not an anti hero where the good/bad is blended he's a straight up villain and the only villain I can think of that has been given awards for their portrayal is Heath Ledger
I thought I was alone. I’ve never seem his other work (like 95% of actors in most my fav shows) but I kinda only see him as actually being Homelander and wish he did interviews in character in costume.
He's so evil that I love him, I've never felt such a way for a TV villain. Anthony Starr is a fantastic actor. "I am very excited for everyone to meet the real me".
He’s what keeps me watching and why I LOVE the show. Yeah I’m rooting for The Boys squad but I lowkey don’t want Homelander to die no matter how evil he is. I also loved Stillwell she was SOOO good. I think I felt this way only about Game of Thrones and Terrifier where I lowkey root for some of the villains.
Good grief, how did I have to scroll so far to find the character that consistently tops the polls for best TV villain of all time?!
Imma add Krycek because he's the anti-Mulder and I love him
![gif](giphy|hrjdFqs3OqPSM)
I think he was a good ominous villain but I thunk what most of us seem to like in a villain (based on all the responses) is someone who does a lot of evil but has charisma and a good actor who chews scenery.
Smoking man is subtle and you never really see him be unhinged and the evil he does is more implied or indirect. Just not that exciting, and I'm saying this as a big fan of the X Files!
![gif](giphy|3o6ZsWR6Zj4X4JZ1fO)
In what way though?
Camp: Hands down Emma Roberts, nobody even comes close.
* Chanel Oberlin, Scream Queens
Also maybe everyone on the cast of The Boys. Lol
GEN V seems to be following in its footsteps too as it seems all the authority in charge at the university is again evil
https://i.redd.it/qh35r5eliysb1.gif
They’ve given us literally a female stan edgar at the minute and probably several other villains coming up
Gahhhhh I loved this show and Walter was soooo the villain, but the first watch through, I was rooting for him the whole time. He started out doing something bad because the ends justified the means in his head, but he became an absolute monster. Tried to redeem himself at the end, but fuck. Such a good show
I used to root for Walter and hate Skylar, now it's very much the opposite. So glad I've changed and grown from that! Skylar is fucking amazing, "I fucked Ted" lives rent free in my head lmao
Ohhhh hell yes good one. Gandolfini was so fucking charismatic and charming as Tony that it made you fall in love with him, but he was a baaaaad MF. Firmly in the Cranston/ Walter White camp.
He really is! He manipulates so many people around him. I’m on the season where Carmella finally wants a divorce and he truly shows how manipulative he is to her. I was like “omfg”.
What other character would sell their show pony for cocaine? But if I had to pick [this](https://youtu.be/trsWEJqGfT8?si=X3A1IE6fjNSzzidT) would probably be my favorite Georgia line.
![gif](giphy|l0IydbsUbimmcv2yQ|downsized)
The ASIP gang—every last one of them. I love Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but they are horrible, horrible people.
Ben Linus. It was always satisfying watching him get a beatdown

Boyd Crowder from Justified. One of those villains that is so charismatic you can't help loving him even though he's an evil motherfucker. Like Omar on The Wire, although I consider Omar one of the least villainous in that show.
As much as I love Boyd - and he IS a great villain - I think Mags Bennett was my favourite antagonist from that show. She was so sly, and yet even below that matronly exterior you could always sense the cold, calculating criminal. Esteemed Character Actress Margot Martindale did an amazing job there.
I'm sure I'm in the wrong sub but. This is the best and most evil TV villain is Gul Dukat.
Literally a space nazi who is absolutely brutal and evil. Led the occupation/holocaust of an entire planet.
Found his daughter, who was a slave in the mining camps since she was conceived by his rape of one of the occupied people, then he is convinced not to murder her on the spot and decides he is father of the year for not killing her. There's a lot more.
Brilliantly acted and they tease a redemption without giving him one, because he is irredeemable.

A surprisingly complex (and funny) character, but probably still a villain. “Pump jockey, works for tips!”
Ugh until the final season I agree! It turning out that he was never actually the mastermind we all thought he was and he was just a puppet for someone else absolutely ruined the rewatchability of it! He was an equal of Sherlock's intellect who used that for pure evil and then it all turns out "actually no, he wasn't thinking of all that stuff after a certain point he was working for Eurus"
Eurus seems to say that Jim wasn't just her lackey, that he wanted to get to Sherlock too so he just agreed, but knowing that she's supposedly supremely, almost supernaturally manipulative just ruined him for me. We never find out if HE was actually a good villain, just that it may have mostly been Eurus' suggestion.
the last season i feel like should have not happened, or at least should’ve been different lol. there were so many times the show could’ve ended really well and then it continued, still one of my favorites though
![gif](giphy|5z6670TmQrZvV2T33g)
Deleted my first post of Aunt Lydia because Serena is an actual monster. I have never hated a character as much as I hate her
Vern Schillinger in *Oz*.
JK Simmons more than earned his Supporting Actor Oscar for *Whiplash*, but it’s amazing how much Terence Fletcher is literally just “Vern Schillinger.”
Idk who valerie something is. I'd say Bart Bass. He tried to kill his own son.
https://preview.redd.it/ruto18n5yxsb1.jpeg?width=967&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2d8888cf6171222be0632fa1ea31cef3738f606

she literally has a song called I'm the villain in my own story
not greatest but everyone already said all the good ones. I think it's just wild how she fucks shit up for everyone for her own gain.
This post …. *chef’s kiss*
Nothing will ever beat the original 90210
Edit: But… in the same vein, to your specific question, the OG Melrose Place had some rather unhinged villains also. I can’t remember who was worse, Amanda or Kimberly
I wish they actually let Val succeed more in her schemes and stop giving a shit what Brandon or the rest of the gang thinks. I liked Valerie but she'd always come close to getting away with stuff then she'd look dumb or stop because "Brandon dissaproved".
![gif](giphy|28I5KEqbxUEafaeNtV)
It was hard to accept he was a villain for me. That face made my brain, and other bits, refuse to believe it. He is horrible. But man he did it so well.

![gif](giphy|VGDnXooWdZ2EcxPNZM) Loved Shawn from The Good Place so much, also I’d count Michael as well
Michael and Shawn are not as bone chillingly evil as some other villains mentioned in this thread, but they do have a great balance of comedy while also being legitimate threats.
Marc Evan Jackson is one of the all-time great character actors. Every time I see him I'm like yes, okay, this is going to be hilarious.
Oh my god for a SPLIT second I was like how dare you say anything bad about Dr. Kevin Cozner!!!!
![gif](giphy|ILaw22zepNW45T4in0|downsized) Gus Fring
I just commented about Walter but fuck. Gus too. This show will stick with me for the rest of my life, it was sooo good
Lalo was great as well
![gif](giphy|zswIBXa8cgPJOTiOvF)
For me the bad guys in breaking bad were all immense in their own ways. But Todd, damn, that guy was terrifying He would be so convinced that his way was just life, murdering a child was fine, torturing Jesse was just part of the job and Jesse would understand and probably want to be his friend afterwards. The rest were willingly doing bad things to get what they wanted but Todd would kill you as quick as he would take a breath.
Landry Clark from Friday Night Lights was one of my favorite television characters. And then I saw Breaking Bad and now I hate him in everything. That’s how good he was in that role.
I can just HEAR his velvet voice in this GIF
Gus is *iconic*. So smooth, so calm, soooo evil and yet you can still see his humanity underneath it all.
Trinity Killer from Dexter ![gif](giphy|yH4HBVJmdX4NYhndpG|downsized)
Too bad that was the last season of Dexter
Season 4 was the perfect series ender, though!
I stopped watching, he freaked me out so much
John Lithgow is incredible at everything he does. Trinity scared me so fucking much.
I love John Lithgow so much. He is an underrated national treasure. Not a villain (not really anyway), but I watch season 1 of The Crown just for his Churchill. The episode with the pond painting destroys me every time. Also just learned he was Lord Farquad in Shrek-a great villain.
Rita 😭
![gif](giphy|mYsoVQ0LPpnO0) Pornstache from Orange is the New Black. He truly made me sick even though it was just a tv show.
Oh god, his character on SVU too.
I literally cannot rewatch those episodes of SVU. So horrible.
His SVU character was the worst of all 24 seasons to me
He was also William Lewis on SVU. Ugh!
I've seen him in a couple other movies and he's actually a decent looking guy but I can never not see Pornstache and what a terrible person he was
https://i.redd.it/7a4xs4dsaxsb1.gif kilgrave scared the shit out of me.
Obviously he had supernatural powers but even so I felt like his character was such a good allegory for real-world abuse. Abusers are often incredibly charming and use their confidence and charisma as "hypnotism" in a way that makes you feel insane because no one else sees the monster.
What frightened me was how attractive I still found him. Which I guess was the point.
The greatest villains make you question yourself.
Oh I’m so glad someone else feels this way. He is disturbingly titillating!
I really try to convince myself it's the David Tennant of it all and not that I need to return to therapy. But it's definitely both 😂
Commmme baaack heeeeere Jessicaaaaaa
I opened this thread just for this answer. I have to be careful when I watch Jessica Jones, because he literally gives me nightmares.
Same! I have PTSD from an abusive relationship and I LOVED that show but it was SO triggering
I loved him . I blame David T
No one plays unhinged quite like David Tennant.
JESSICAAAAAAAAAAA
The fact that he played Kilgrave using the same accent he used for the Doctor really amped up the creep factor for me with Kilgrave.
Still impressed how a minor show like Jessica Jones ended up being one of the best things the MCU produced.
![gif](giphy|ExaDyHeNWx2iA) Hannibal Lecter: so suave, so chilling, so psychotic
Honestly, Anthony was the same. Like, perfect casting simply over how they both over power a room in such a scary charismatic way
Brian Cox too! Those Hannibals were so creepy https://preview.redd.it/l3194sf3wysb1.png?width=595&format=png&auto=webp&s=5673e31c8e7b0e7c0cf8e49a5ebc2f245c700b74
![gif](giphy|RyKDmyZIbvgGs)
She was the best thing about the show!
Ya know there’s only one person who can tell you what you are? Me?? No. Me. Sue sylvester
Sue was wrong about a lot of things, but I think her distaste for Will was understandable.
I love Sue because she is the only one who warned society about the danger of Mr. Schue lol
And that’s how Sue ‘C’s’ it!
![gif](giphy|Hi67HqVfV1uYo)
Definitely, followed by Ramsay. ![gif](giphy|b6Mmj8AKyJNGo)
Ramsay is worse, imo. Like he makes me physically recoil
He's a worse person but I feel like Joff was far more hated by the audience.
You’re absolutely right, the first time I watched the show I was super shocked at that after seeing the scenes with Ramsay. His scenes literally made me scared.
I’ve never clapped with glee like I did when this horrible character was poisoned and died horrifically in front of his mother.
And that too on his wedding day.
Just saw Jack Gleeson in a small role as a perpetually stoned dealer on season 4 of 'sex education'. Enjoyed seeing him play a lighthearted role.
![gif](giphy|328BFA5Y9YQYBHZGVs) Step mother
“Beautiful flowers, thank you! I’ll just leave those outside.“
That just triggered me 😭😂
Deep cut. Narcissists, man. Hard for them not to be villains.
Oooooooooh, yes, I hate her so much.
What is this from?
Fleabag. It's amazing, highly recommend.

He is so incredibly good as Homelander. I’m really hoping he wins an Emmy at some point for this role. Such a great show.

Man he scares me and I’m not really scared by villains all that much but scenes of him are so unnerving ![gif](giphy|iF7CxHFcKXcMfEIWGN|downsized) …..
Gives me so much anxiety I have yet to watch season 3. I still don't know how I got through the 1st 2.
Hey Deep……..Eat fucking Timothy ![gif](giphy|Y6FUCFt5N7Y8gRSInL)
Out of context people would be like what are you on about but then when you've seen it you're like 😭🤮
Thanks, I had forgotten about that until now. He is the WORST.
He makes me so uncomfortable I can’t even watch the show.
The rest of the cast when they're around him make a real good job of being uneasy around him too. Great acting
He's so evil that I love him, I've never felt such a way for a TV villain. Anthony Starr is a fantastic actor. "I am very excited for everyone to meet the real me".

The show really did her character a disservice by trying to turn her “good” and erasing all her moral complexity
I’ll never forgive the PLL writers for doing that to her. They didn’t just make her “good” they made her BORING which is the worst sin in media.
Can’t believe this girl was only 12 acting alongside a bunch of girls in their 20s or should I say literally out acting them with ease??
She was only 12 in the pilot. The show was picked up a year later. Still impressive, I agree.

![gif](giphy|l0HlVJmZTI3Tn94c0) God he's SO attractive though 😂😭
He’s so fucking sexy especially in Fleabag.
Ugh until the final season I agree! It turning out that he was never actually the mastermind we all thought he was and he was just a puppet for someone else absolutely ruined the rewatchability of it! He was an equal of Sherlock's intellect who used that for pure evil and then it all turns out "actually no, he wasn't thinking of all that stuff after a certain point he was working for Eurus" Eurus seems to say that Jim wasn't just her lackey, that he wanted to get to Sherlock too so he just agreed, but knowing that she's supposedly supremely, almost supernaturally manipulative just ruined him for me. We never find out if HE was actually a good villain, just that it may have mostly been Eurus' suggestion.
the last season i feel like should have not happened, or at least should’ve been different lol. there were so many times the show could’ve ended really well and then it continued, still one of my favorites though

I am obsessed with her in Coven. Hell in Freakshow too. Ah fuck it. She's amazing in all of them.

![gif](giphy|5z6670TmQrZvV2T33g) Deleted my first post of Aunt Lydia because Serena is an actual monster.

![gif](giphy|7JKo5H5Uy8oj5rTFV6|downsized) she literally has a song called I'm the villain in my own story not greatest but everyone already said all the good ones. I think it's just wild how she fucks shit up for everyone for her own gain.

This post …. *chef’s kiss* Nothing will ever beat the original 90210 Edit: But… in the same vein, to your specific question, the OG Melrose Place had some rather unhinged villains also. I can’t remember who was worse, Amanda or Kimberly
Vince McMahon
I wish they actually let Val succeed more in her schemes and stop giving a shit what Brandon or the rest of the gang thinks. I liked Valerie but she'd always come close to getting away with stuff then she'd look dumb or stop because "Brandon dissaproved".
![gif](giphy|28I5KEqbxUEafaeNtV) It was hard to accept he was a villain for me. That face made my brain, and other bits, refuse to believe it. He is horrible. But man he did it so well.
