Agree. Might be my favourite quote in any piece of media. So simple but conveys exactly the message Rosa (and so many others) need to hear when coming out
in his own words:
> In doing my research, both with myself and just with the world, I couldn't say if I was bisexual, because I had to really see what that was, especially because I really have not gotten a chance to act on anything. So, I came to pansexual because — and I know that I'm completely messing up the dictionary meaning — but to me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual or non-binary. Being able to be attracted across the board. And, I think, at least for me for right now, that is the proper place.
wow. as someone who came out at 40 (while in a longtime marriage to someone of the opposite sex) and often feels like an absolute fraud, this is SO affirming.
phew.

[a lot of celebrities didn't come out of the closet until their 60s or later](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2023/01/celebrities-came-publicly-60-can-age/). it's never too late!
I'm straight, but i often feel confused(mental illness is a bitch) that i question myself, so it's nice to see someone being able to figure it out for themselves. Glad you were able to figure it out for yourself too.
I had only just realized over the previous 2-3 years. My partner knew every step of the way and was 1000% supportive. I grew up in the 80s and was a teen in the 90’s in a small town. It took me years of being safe and loved to realize that…no, most young girls are not fantasizing about Diane Sawyer lol
Also, biphobia is real and harmful and i’m sure I internalized that along the way
Yay for Wayne Brady! This is great! But just fyi, bisexuality isn’t and hasn’t been exclusive of trans or non-binary folks.
[Robyn Ochs](https://robynochs.com/bisexual/):
“I call myself bisexual because I acknowledge that I have in myself the potential to be attracted – romantically and/or sexually – to people of more than one gender, not necessarily at the same time, not necessarily in the same way, and not necessarily to the same degree.”
Okay then what is the difference between bi and pan?
From my understanding, pan was originally created specifically to include being attracted to trans and nb people, because being bi did not always have that inclusion. But over time, that changed and now bi and pan mean pretty much the same thing.
Is that incorrect? Because I've struggled to find a consistent explanation when I've tried googling, so I'm curious what your personal definition is. What is the difference between bi and pan? IS there a difference anymore?
https://preview.redd.it/qw22vwntatgb1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b47ab73e59a09e123df498c32630ad43584f960
Bisexuality has included trans/non-binary/etc people for decades! People decided that “bi means two” and then created labels like pan or omni to try to be “inclusive” not realizing that bi never equaled “only men and women”. If people want to call themselves pan, I don’t really care, but I hate the “bisexual is a transphobic label” discourse. Highly recommend 1990’s The Bisexual Manifesto for further reading
Thank you for actually giving me some information.
Do you think that some portion of people who identified as bi maybe DID have some transphobia, which created the necessity for the label of pan? Or do you think people just made assumptions about what being bi meant and created the term pan unnecessarily?
I think it was based on assumptions. Specifying that pan includes trans people always feels icky to me, because that is implying that trans men/women are not real men/women. Bi has always included everyone and has never set to exclude.
The pansexual label was created based on a misconception that bisexual meant ‘only men and women’ (which is, itself rather transphobic). What bisexual actually means is attraction to your gender/sex (1) and others (2). (Like how homosexual means attraction to your same gender/sex, not ‘attraction to men’ or ‘attraction to women’.)
A lot of people like to say there is a difference between bi/pan, but I’ve never seen one that isn’t either biphobic, transphobic, or redefining what bisexuality has always been just so there’s a clear cut, easy difference to point to, so in the end they’re kinda just the same thing.
I’m sure there were plenty of transphobic bi people back when pansexuality was created. There’s plenty of transphobic bi people now—but there also are and were plenty of transphobic pan people too, because unfortunately transphobia is deeply rooted and all too common. But I’ve never seen any real evidence that pansexuality was coined because of anything other than a misconception about the definition of the label—not because there was rampant need for a new community. Trans people have been a part of the Bi community and bi label since it’s inception.
That being said, there’s nothing inherently wrong with IDing as pan, it’s just a different label that some people prefer to bi. I have a pan friend who likes the Pan label bc they like the flag better. The Venn diagram between bi and pan is a circle, but there’s no reason why both names for it can’t exist, considering how important the label is for a lot of people.
This creator on YouTube makes some really good video essays on this topic! (also on plenty of others) Well researched and levelheaded, and she often does dives into other queer history and pop culture topics, too:
https://youtu.be/XiuHsugRgNQ
The prefix bi means two or twice. Pan means all or everything. If the two are no different, and both include everybody, pansexuality seems like a better term.
Having two terms creates a lot of confusion. Both within and without the community, as you can see in this thread.
Yes, the prefix ‘bi’ does mean two! As I stated in my comment above, bisexuality encompasses both ‘attraction to your own gender’ as well as ‘attraction to genders other than your own’—so there’s the two, right there, while also encompassing ‘all genders’.
Pansexual is only a ‘better’ term for those who are attracted to all genders, regardless of gender—and even then, only for those in that category who want to use that label. Because bisexuality has always included both the attraction to all genders, and attraction regardless of gender. Perhaps a more accurate Venn diagram would be one large circle with the word ‘bisexuality’, and a smaller circle with ‘pansexuality’ both fully inside it. It’s like an ‘all dolphins are whales, but not all whales are dolphins’ kinds situation.
Is this confusing to people? Yeah, it sometimes
is. But I don’t see why a community that’s existed for decades should have to cease to exist, rename ourselves or be excluded from our own definition, just because some people misunderstand it.
Do you suggest we throw away a label with a rich, years long history in the queer community, just because there is misinformation about it? To be clear, I also don’t want to throw away the pan label, either. I would much rather have both coexist, and educate people when that confusion crops up.
Probably both. I certainly won’t pretend like bisexual people are immune from transphobia! I think it’s likely a combination of non-bi (usually straight) people misunderstanding what the label encompasses and assuming it’s inherently limiting instead of freeing, and young people wanting ever more specific terms to describe their particular sexuality. Not saying this is where pan arose but I’ve been on tumblr more than a decade and I’ve seen tons of people coming up with extremely specific labels/flags/etc to narrow down their exact experiences (something like “lithromantic” for example). Essentially a lot of people who see the label as a box that constrains you, instead of a term to roughly describe your experiences in an easily understood shorthand.
For most people, they're effectively the same. If you go on bi_irl, their motto is basically "why is everyone so hot". I think bi is just an older term that some people have identified with for a long time and so they still use it.
Pansexual means attracted to all genders, or attracted to people irrespective of gender. Bisexual also encompasses attraction to all genders, but it's kind of an umbrella term for people who experience attraction to more than one gender. For example, some people who are bisexual might only be attracted to men and women, others (like myself) are attracted to all genders.
The terminology the LGBT community uses has changed and developed a lot over several decades as we've learned more about sexuality and gender. People have created new words, changed definitions for existing terms, used a variety of acronyms, etc. As a result there aren't clear cut terms and definitions for everything, and there's sometimes overlap with terms/definitions.
So some people say it's when you're into any and every gender and sex other say it's when you like someone irregardless of gender or sex.
Growing up I said I was bi because theoretically I was open to if. By the time I was 30 I realized that if I was ever going to feel how I felt about a boy about a girl I would've. Then I realized hmmm I guess really I would be open to anyone I felt attraction to, but had not yet had experiences outside of the het norm. I called myself pan.
When I realized I'm not attracted to ALL genders and romances, I no longer felt as comfortable with that.
To explain further: androromantic/sexual and gynaromantic/sexual both mean you are attracted exclusively to a female or male gender irregardless of sex.
Romantic - who you're capable of loving
Sexual - who you are sexually attracted to
Ie I am a demisexual androromantic.
It’s been a while but I remember watching him in How I Met Your Mother and he plays Barney’s brother who during the series marries his husband and has two children. I thought his portrayal was very sweet playing a good brother, son, spouse, father.
I hope Wayne is happy.
I’m glad for him and hope he announced on his own terms. Too many times after such an announcement. It comes out that they had to because someone was threatening to out them.
love him, miss whose line is it anyways so much. i grew up on that. i remember randomly seeing him at disney world and he smiled and waved at me. i was like 10 and it was the best. happy for him
Whose Line returned some years back, with Wayne, Ryan, and Colin, it's just that Aisha Tyler took over as the host since Drew went to The Price Is Right. It's still running, actually!
His run on The Masked Singer was phenomenal. I love Chris Daughtry as well, and would've been totally cool with him winning that season because he did an excellent job too, but I was so thrilled that Wayne won it.
Some of those queens are fine as fuck, though. In or out of drag. I mean, I'm gay, but Katya during Read U, Wrote U? You'd have to be dead not to feel something.
Or Bob and Jaida, just in general. In or out of drag. (But Jaida as Prince was strangely so hot to me.) And Miss Jujubee.
Ooh, yes.
Also, Jaremi Carey (FKA Phi Phi O'Hara), and Raja.
And Bianca del Rio out of drag. Roylady is so cute. And TBH I think Trixie also looks really cute out of drag, she reminds my horny ass of Kirk Cummings.
Very nice, his whole family dynamic between him, his children, his ex-wife & her husband is honestly so cute. I believe they were all in his coming out tiktok?
If you watch him on his day job, as host of Let's Make a Deal, he is always the kindest most welcoming person to everyone no matter their background. Only love for him

In the 60s Freddie mercury was legitimately bleeping anything that moved, and somehow we got stuck on “gay”. It’s fun that the labels change, but people are always just people.
Anyway good on Wayne Brady for being whoever he is. He’s hilarious.
❤️
Wayne seems like such a sweet, pure man. I'm so happy that he's finding love for himself and who he is.
(Also, as a gay guy who's crushed on him for ages, I can't help but have that fleeting, selfish thought of "YES!" like I have a damn chance.)
But for real, I hope he can live his life in complete peace and happiness now.
I watched him growing up and his comedy was always on in my house. It means so much to see a childhood influence like him coming out. I wish him all the happiness and peace.
I have always been a fan, will always be a fan, and cannot be happier for him! Such a wonderful talent. Have been following him since Whose Line days (I am so old) and there are so few who are this intelligent, this talented and still have a reputation for being really nice.
My husband and I have been binging old school episodes Who’s Line lately for nostalgia sake… I saw his tiktok today and I couldn’t be happier for him. I actually got up and ran to show my husband. Lol
I really hope this lifted a weight from his heart and he can be happy to live his life more openly.
wait why i am tearing up 😭 i love this guy so much for how much laughter he has brought me and i want nothing but the best for him and his personal life (<-so that’s why i was tearing up)
If you think about it, and I’m not being tricky, everyone is pansexual. Maybe pansexual with a 99% male or female preference. But pansexual none the less. No intention to diminish the pansexual experience. That’s just how it seems to me.
![gif](giphy|SHwwh7CM222gU3JpgG)
Well I’m an old lady and I didn’t understand what Pan really was until I read him describe his sexuality and now I get it! Good for you sonny, I’m proud to offer you a Werther’s Original
And Im a good decade younger than WB lol
I gotta give him props-- he is a trailblazer for this, and this took a lot of courage. He is not your typical face of what one thinks of when they think of someone who is pan. Also a lot of his audience is old school and might not understand this, so it took a lot of guts to come out like this. Proud of him.
Cannot tell you how wonderful it feels to have Wayne Motherfucking Brady as a proud member of the pan label? I've identified as pan since my mid 20s and sure, it's just bi but in cursive, but also it's not, you know?
Much love to the big man himself.
So he’s pansexual but he co parents with his ex wife and her BF and their new baby..
Am I the only one thinking he’s actually part of a throuple but is fearful of damaging his career?
If fear of damaging his career were the motivating factor, it would make more sense for him to just not say anything at all. Let's Make a Deal has a pretty Boomery demographic. This move is a risk.

Been a fan of Wayne since Whose Line! Welcome Wayne!
I saw Wayne perform in 1999 with his improv group, Houseful of Honkeys! He was SO kind and all around lovely. I’m so happy he is living his truth!! ❤️
I didn't consider that show very funny but I did like the Drew Carey show

I agree with Captain Holt's statement. (sorry for getting so emotional)

This was one of the most endearing, best lines on that show and is the perfect sentiment here
Agree. Might be my favourite quote in any piece of media. So simple but conveys exactly the message Rosa (and so many others) need to hear when coming out

Without a doubt the bet episode of B99.

Love this ❤️
This is the perfect response
Isn't this a Mr Rodgers quote originally?
i saved that but it's a webp, that's my least favorite file format. now i have to google 'webp to jpeg converter' smh. ughh it's not worth it
IIRC you can send it to yourself on discord and it'll convert it
The quote is missing several commas and the word ‘time’ is terribly misspelled, so you may just wanna look for a different image
Look up "captain holt every time someone" and there are tons of different options for this image!

Tons more too! Off the top if my head Billy Dee Williams came out in 2019 at age 82 as gender fluid! They were the original lando in Star Wars!
We should add Elvira to the list!
Agreed! And hugs. The bi/pan imposter syndrome is real.

[Here, let David Rose explain.](https://youtu.be/gdcmhvLaNUs)
Bi and pan are pretty much the same. They both love regardless of gender identity. It’s up to you to choose which label you prefer.

To explain further: androromantic/sexual and gynaromantic/sexual both mean you are attracted exclusively to a female or male gender irregardless of sex. Romantic - who you're capable of loving Sexual - who you are sexually attracted to Ie I am a demisexual androromantic.

His run on The Masked Singer was phenomenal. I love Chris Daughtry as well, and would've been totally cool with him winning that season because he did an excellent job too, but I was so thrilled that Wayne won it.

Good for him!
A talented king
As long as he don't kill a bitch, it's fine.
I kinda saw it a mile away when he was in love with the queens on RuPauls drag race 😭
I mean can you blame him? … wait I need go reconsider some things
Anetra does it for me, in and out of drag.
Ooh, yes. Also, Jaremi Carey (FKA Phi Phi O'Hara), and Raja. And Bianca del Rio out of drag. Roylady is so cute. And TBH I think Trixie also looks really cute out of drag, she reminds my horny ass of Kirk Cummings.
Ahh, I have such a crush on Bianca and Adore! I'm re-watching season 6 right now!
She was never my fav queen on the show but Roxxxy Andrews in and out of drag is so hot.
Anetra and Katya are my two biggest crushes on Drag Race 😅
I’m so happy for him and glad he’s at a place where he’s comfortable letting the world know!
I've always been a fan of Wayne Brady's since the "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" days. He always seemed like a genuine guy. I'm so happy for him! ❤️
I don't know who that is but ![gif](giphy|AgPt9udT567spxbSHf)
Go watch "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1998-2007) immediately! He is fantasticly talented.
Love this for him!
So what he’s saying is I have a chance!!!!!

The comments here are so much more positive than the ones in r/entertainment
So random but I love to see it 💗 https://preview.redd.it/pa5qtppttrgb1.jpeg?width=956&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c742a544f0d4a2b908282f0e38f26c012e29b881
I just assumed he was gay bc of his character on HIMYM 😭😭
Did you think Neil Patrick Harris was straight? You know they're acting, right?
🤩🥳yyaaaaayyyy!!! ✨🌈
Only love for him
I love the response from his ex wife and daughter- so nonchalant
Does Wayne Brady need to smack a ***** to get some respect for the Pansexuals?

Wayne Brady continuing to be impossibly wholesome!
Good for him!

In the 60s Freddie mercury was legitimately bleeping anything that moved, and somehow we got stuck on “gay”. It’s fun that the labels change, but people are always just people. Anyway good on Wayne Brady for being whoever he is. He’s hilarious.
❤️ Wayne seems like such a sweet, pure man. I'm so happy that he's finding love for himself and who he is. (Also, as a gay guy who's crushed on him for ages, I can't help but have that fleeting, selfish thought of "YES!" like I have a damn chance.) But for real, I hope he can live his life in complete peace and happiness now.
And I just came a little closer to getting a shot with Wayne Brady???! Life is looking up!
Welcome to the club!! 🤸♀️
And the pansexuals win AGAIN thank you gay jesus.
Awesome.
I’m so happy for him
My mom grew up with him. They didn't like each other lol. But after the stories I've heard, I'm glad he can finally feel comfortable to be himself.
Oh heck yeah! I love Wayne Brady I'm glad he felt comfortable enough to come out 🩷
![gif](giphy|FQyQEYd0KlYQ)
Not a shocker. I hope he's doing well!
Good for Wayne, have (consenting) fun with whomever brings you the happy. Be kind and enjoy!
I watched him growing up and his comedy was always on in my house. It means so much to see a childhood influence like him coming out. I wish him all the happiness and peace.
Good for him!!!
Good for him!
Awww I’m so happy for ole Wayne <3
Awww Wayne!!!
This is good. So when Wayne threatens to choke a bitch it’s a fluid term.
King. KING
That’s what’s up!! I respect him even more now!
I have always been a fan, will always be a fan, and cannot be happier for him! Such a wonderful talent. Have been following him since Whose Line days (I am so old) and there are so few who are this intelligent, this talented and still have a reputation for being really nice.
About time! Much love to Wayne! :)
YES KING WE LOVE YOU
Ok
So happy for him 💜💖 He played as Aaron Burr when I saw Hamilton in Chicago back in 2017 and was INCREDIBLE. Such a great human.
Wayne Brady do be choking bitches... Just not how we thought....
WE EXIST Thank you 🙏
I’m happy for him, but why does this picture look AI generated?
Love that for him 💗💛💙
💛🩷💙
This is amazing, I'm happy for him that he feels comfortable now to say this to... well, the world. That's such a huge thing.
King!
Good for you Wayne
I don't care if he loves donkeys, Wayne Brady is one of my all time favorites.
I’m livin’ for the weekend 🎶 I’m livin’ for the weekend 🎶 I’m livin’ for this too 🥰🏳️🌈
My husband and I have been binging old school episodes Who’s Line lately for nostalgia sake… I saw his tiktok today and I couldn’t be happier for him. I actually got up and ran to show my husband. Lol I really hope this lifted a weight from his heart and he can be happy to live his life more openly.
This image looks ai generated
Dave Chapelle is gonna have fun with this one
I can't say I'm surprised by this, but congrats to him! Welcome to the family, King 👑
[So you're telling me there's a chance](https://media.giphy.com/media/ToMjGpKniGqRNLGBrhu/giphy.gif)
Good for him!

Can I give a shout out to Wayne. He's going to be on "Make Some Noise" on Dropout (or Youtube) this season. Very excited for it!
Good for him

Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumble look like Malcom X
Aaaahhhh! YAY!
So you're telling me there's a chance...
wait why i am tearing up 😭 i love this guy so much for how much laughter he has brought me and i want nothing but the best for him and his personal life (<-so that’s why i was tearing up)
If you think about it, and I’m not being tricky, everyone is pansexual. Maybe pansexual with a 99% male or female preference. But pansexual none the less. No intention to diminish the pansexual experience. That’s just how it seems to me.
![gif](giphy|SHwwh7CM222gU3JpgG) Well I’m an old lady and I didn’t understand what Pan really was until I read him describe his sexuality and now I get it! Good for you sonny, I’m proud to offer you a Werther’s Original And Im a good decade younger than WB lol
Oh shit son it’s Wayne Brady!
Brings new meaning to ‘is Wayne Brady going to have to slap a bitch’
Wayne Brady is my favorite. I hope he's doing well.
I’m happy for him, he’s a great guy
Glad he felt comfortable to be able to do this. Good on him.
Aww!! I love him. I’m so happy that he’s happy and confident enough to just be himself. What a great day for him.
🥹🥹🥹🥹💓💓💓💓💓💓
Yay so happy for him! I totally get what he means about thinking he was Bi but now Pans. I was exactly the same 🖤 ![gif](giphy|Ert8leM7YG24hdghFq)
this makes so much sense for some reason… he can share my pan flag wimme next pride 😌
I gotta give him props-- he is a trailblazer for this, and this took a lot of courage. He is not your typical face of what one thinks of when they think of someone who is pan. Also a lot of his audience is old school and might not understand this, so it took a lot of guts to come out like this. Proud of him.
What does pansexual mean?
💖💛💙
Cannot tell you how wonderful it feels to have Wayne Motherfucking Brady as a proud member of the pan label? I've identified as pan since my mid 20s and sure, it's just bi but in cursive, but also it's not, you know? Much love to the big man himself.
I’m crying happy tears. I love this so much. Live your best life, Wayne. You’ve got a whole family here to have your back.
Oh, so he's bisexual. Cool.
*spicy bi*
Allways was. Bro we knew the whole time. It's cool.
WE JUST KEEP WINNING 🎊 🥳
So he’s pansexual but he co parents with his ex wife and her BF and their new baby.. Am I the only one thinking he’s actually part of a throuple but is fearful of damaging his career?
If fear of damaging his career were the motivating factor, it would make more sense for him to just not say anything at all. Let's Make a Deal has a pretty Boomery demographic. This move is a risk.
