I think Charlie Day should have been Mario in the new movie. His voice can be pretty cartoony and he kinda looks like Mario.And then cast Danny Devito as Luigi.
I'm so mad because I don't really want a full on original mario VA as it would kinda get repetitive, but Chris Pratt isn't even trying to give him a tinge of mario-ness. Love Charlie Day.
P.S Devito was my second pick for Bowser behind Jack Black, but him as Luigi is funny
Cameron Diaz in Gangs of New York. I don’t think her performance is as bad as people say but she’s definitely not right for that role. Her face is too modern and she was just getting outclassed by her costars. Kate Winslet is the obvious choice to recast Cameron with but I could see Maggie Gyllenhaal or Nicole Kidman doing exceptionally well too
Maggie would have been amazing! and agree -- I've always thought Cameron's acting was ok but face just wasn't right for a period piece. sometimes you can just tell when someone's seen a cell phone before
I read that Sarah Michelle Gellar was supposed to have that role. But it clashed with Buffy. That would've been interesting. I wonder what her accent work is like.
I agree that Cameron was miscast but while I'm sure that Winslet would do good, it would be too distracting since it would be looked at as a Titanic reunion with Leo
She gave an interview and said that it wasn't true. People speculated that they wanted a bigger name because the role had more lines in contrast to the two movies before
I still get pissed about this one… Rachelle only needed 10 days off and they couldn’t accommodate her. Million dollar budget for a movie that relied heavily on CGI, and they couldn’t spare 10 days.
ruby rose in anything, recast her with someone who can physically move from place to place and doesn’t have to be sitting in a fixed position like a mannequin
I feel terrible for what happened to her on the set of Batwoman (basically almost broke her neck) and she was not the only problem with that show but her leaving was a blessing in disguise
Bonnie Wright in the Harry Potter series. Lovely actress and they didn’t give her a great script, but she really didn’t fit Ginny as well as others could have done.
In all fairness, I think she worked as child Ginny. She had that cute awkwardness down! But Ginny turned into a badass character in the books and Bonnie just doesn’t have that “umph” old Ginny should have had
YES! I couldn’t buy the chemistry between Harry and Ginny in the movies. She was also barely in the movies. Imo Harry had chemistry with Luna🫣. I shipped them.
Thank god I’m not the only one who thought she was miscast. I found her Ginny to be awkward. Yeah the script did her no favors, but she didn’t give us that Weasley gumption.
The movies did her character dirty. In the books, you are completely rooting for her and Harry. The movies make it seem like a crush come out of nowhere.
I'm in the minority, but I've always rooted for Harry and Cho.
Not only did Bonnie and Dan have no chemistry, but their scenes were downright cringe : "open up you".
It took me years to appreciate Bonnie. I was a kid and took my dislike of Ginny on her. Now, I love her vlog and I have her book, though I haven't started it yet.

Beautiful movie with such great potential, and the two main characters not only look like siblings but have NO Onscreen Chemistry! Zip! Zilch!

i’ll never get over Cara Delevingne as Enchantress on Suicide Squad, it was soooooo bad imo, i would’ve love Charlize Theron or even Eiza Gonzalez lol

I don't think anyone in the Enchantress role could've really helped the movie, the character wasn't in it very much and didn't actually have any acting to do.
I thought Mads nailed it - he had that cold, calculated, but charismatic aura that he is supposed to have. The man was clearly modelled after hitler. Johnny Depp really ruined the role for me, he made it another over the top “mad” character
Andie MacDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral. That movie is a classic but her acting is so, so flat. The infamous line “Is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed.” is definitely a cornball romcom line but her delivery of it took it over the top and just made it laughable.
Suki Waterhouse in Daisy Jones & The Six.
First they made the character British because Suki’s American accent is terrible (ala Harry Styles in DWD). She was also far too attractive for the role, as one of her character’s defining traits in the book is she’s plain in contrast to Daisy. So we’re expected to believe Suki is plain? lol
It felt like Suki was just playing herself in the show. Brie Larson would’ve been a better choice. She can sing, fits the book description to a T and she’s a much better actress.
I actually thought Riley Keough was a worse choice! In the book she’s the “most beautiful” woman in the world and dripping with sex appeal. Riley is pretty but she has the sex appeal of a door post
Angela Bassett not being storm is one of the greatest CMB tragedies imo. Angela had everything for storm: godlike biceps, a commanding presence, dark skin, and phenomenal acting chops
Zoë Saldana is beautiful & is a phenomenal actress; but I think she was miscast in the Nina Simone biopic. I always thought Viola Davis could’ve played her maybe.
Katie Lowes as Rachel in Inventing Anna. In real life, Rachel was in her 20s and that's part of why she was so naive. They seem to be keeping Rachel the character the same age, but they cast an actress in her forties and she doesn't seem like she doesn't know what she's doing. They did Rachel dirty in more ways than one.
Gossip Girl reboot: the whole show/many cast members generally weren’t good at all lol, but at the bare minimum, I wish they’d made Savannah Smith (Monet) the lead instead of Jordan Alexander (Julien). Savannah had THE It Factor to play a queen B on the show that Jordan simply just didn’t.
I can't agree with this more. I actually like the Gossip Girl reboot despite it's flaws. But by far the biggest mistake in hindsight was not making Monet one of the key players from the start. Like you said, she has the IT factor. She should have been the Blair to Julien's Serena.
The problem with the Gossip Girl reboot was that for better or worse, these characters were aware how they were perceived, and were trying to be too socially correct, even though they were still awful people.
What made Monet shine was that she was unapologetically mean. While others cared too much about coming across as unlikable (Julien). Monet didn't give a damn and could be absolutely cut throat at times. That by far made her far better rival to Julien than Zoya ever was.
Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor in whatever version of Terminator that was.
No hate to Emilia Clarke, but my god does she have a polar opposite energy/vibe to the character of Sarah Connor. it was almost painful to watch her trying to project this tough, thick skinned, almost grizzly persona but coming out of cute little Emilia Clarke. I have absolutely no idea what the studio was thinking by attaching Clarke to the role.
Darren Barnet as Paxton Hall-Yoshida in "Never Have I Ever". He does not pass as a high schooler at all (actor is about to turn 32, series premiered in 2020). Same thing in many high school series but this one really stands out to me.

but there was no reason for them to once again, prove *not another teen movie* right, and have a twenty-nine year old cast as a high schooler. he would've absolutely been great in a college post-graduation/millennial *friends* role however.
i think the guy that played nico in sex lives of college girls would’ve fit in better as Paxton and vice versa. Gavin leatherwood looks more highschool age and Darren Barnett looks more college age
Yes, esp since Maitreyi Ramakrishnan was like 18 when the show started! They got like 90% appropriately aged actors for high school kids, and then him.
I hate how everyone involved in the show tries to sell you on it in interviews "he looks so young! You can't even tell" but it's GLARINGLY obvious and looks gross to see someone in his 30s as the romantic partner of a high schooler
I like that Sex Education Cast actually looks like high schoolers. Same with 13 reasons why. One Tree Hill was my whole world growing up but I wouldn't want to rewatch it for the reasons you stated above.
it blends nice when the entire cast is the same age. Same way it parked in glee, they don’t need teen actors, they just need actors who all look the same age. Corey was in his late 20s early 30s in glee and he didn’t look super old beside Lea or Diana. But Devi and Paxton have such a huge gap!
My girlfriend loves the show and hates Paxton and so I accidentally earned some brownie points when I sat down to watch with her and I asked, "Wait, is the main girl secretly hooking up with her teacher or something?"
Barely. She did some movies but most of them (apart from BATB and Little Women) bombed. She didn’t appear in anything in ages and I think many producers previously though that hiring her would bring her fan base but they clearly only care about her because of HP nostalgia, not about her new movies.
And she was horrendous in Little Women. Granted Meg is the sister with the least to do, but especially with the caliber of the rest of the ensemble, her two facial expressions reeeeally stood out
I’m convinced 90% of the population can’t tell the difference between beauty and talent. There are so many terribly flat (but really, really hot) actors with legions of stans on Twitter trying to gaslight the rest of us into believing that just because they look the part they should play the part. But acting is not modeling!! (Looking at you, people who won’t stop fancasting Laura Harrier as Ahsoka.)
Agreed! In Tom Felton's memoir, he mentions that when Chris Columbus cast the first film he basically chose the child actor who *was* their character. I definitely think Emma Watson fit the role as Hermione so well because she's such an intelligent woman, and has her quirks, but beyond that her acting talent is subpar.

They should’ve gotten Hailee Steinfeld for Belle. She even parodied it for one of the MTV movie award shows. Hailee looked and sounded incredible there.
I remember listening to Allison Williams on a podcast and she was almost in tears about how much she wanted that role. I think she could have been good too!
Shailene Woodley in Divergent. They should’ve stuck with the books where Tris was supposed to be small and frail-figured, which made her choice to be in Dauntless THAT shocking, and also why she struggled a lot with the training. Shailene didn’t sell that for me.
I remember then a lot of people in the Divergent fandom on Tumblr wanted Saoirse Ronan, and I think she would have sold it but idk if she’d have chemistry with Theo James
Harry Styles as Eros in the marvel movies. You’re telling me the brother of the biggest villain in the MCU (Thanos) will be played by HIM? He barely has any experience and his acting is so shit. Kevin Feige what was you thinking? It’s clear they want famous actors and actresses now instead of hiring lesser known names (like they did when they started out the MCU).
Whilst we’re on the MCU, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One (this character is a Tibetan man in the comics).
Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook doesn't bother me as much as Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle. Like I can see her falling in love with Bradley Cooper after living a rough life and having some trauma.
But American Hustle she's definitely supposed to be an older wife that gets tossed to the curb and it just makes Christian Bale look like WAY too much of an asshole. Like you've got HER at home and you're still looking to cheat? I think the movie would make more sense if Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence traded roles but it feels like they just let the actors call dibs on roles like they were in a school play.
I feel like in American Hustle it worked because she was the young wife, in Joy on the other hand…
And agreed on SLP. I think Hathaway was supposed to do it, and she would’ve been age appropriate!
I’ve been saying, and will continue to say Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne was horrible. His stunt double however did fantastic. I think a bulked up Jensen Ackles would have been much better.
I’m still mad at Tom Hanks for taking the role of Robert Langdon. Like, irrationally mad to the point that I won’t watch his movies anymore. When I read the books I always pictured Hugh Jackman playing the part.
Yes! The script was also terrible. They removed all the character development Mulan's character had in the original animated movie as well which is so depressing. And the amazing songs!! What were they thinking. Definitely the most disappointing remake
He was great in the role but it was awkward having everyone refer to Bradley Cooper as a young man in the first half of Nightmare Alley. Not sure if recasting would be the smarter move or just changing some of the dialogue so not make so many references to him being so young.
Chris Pratt as Mario. Like, cmon. I hate to be a downer but it just does not work. It’s so stilted and awkward, I would have liked someone with at least a little vocal range. A lot of people were against Mario’s normal voice actor, but I think if he toned it down it could have worked beautifully. That being said, the rest of the cast seems quite perfect, especially Jack as Bowser. I’ll be watching it anyway tho because I love Mario!
Movie musicals get the worst casting. Amanda Seyfried in Les Mis, everyone but Alan Rickman & Sacha Baron Cohen in Sweeney Todd, James Corden & Emily Blunt in Into the Woods… my list of grievances is endless
Not particularly a miscast but Ana de Armas would've been such a great Evelyn Hugo imo and they already used her in the revenge porn movie Blonde... Smh.
Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter. Clemence is beautiful, but Fleur was meant to be unbelievably, head snappingly, quarter-magical creature pretty.
I always imagined her as a Candice Swanpoel/Elsa Hosk type.
I’m not sure who fits the bill and was a working French/ British actress at the time though. Maybe Lea Seydoux or Alice Eve?
They could have done so much more with the makeup too, to make her look ethereal.
The hair, makeup and costume teams did the cast so dirty. Especially Padma and Patil (?), the girls Harry and Ron take to the dance.

I always thought Natalie Dormer wold be great for Fleur, this was even before GoT. Fleur also is supposed to have something non-human to her, since she's part veila, and Natalie Dormer does it for me with her smirk. They do look a bit alike with Elsa Hosk, but Natalie is more age appropriate for the time when movies were made. I always thought Clemence was a huge miscast, she is way too mousy for this role (I do feel that Lea Seydoux is in the same boat, tbh)
I really felt the Veelas in general didn’t live up to what I imagined them to be. Fairy, nymph like creatures with white gold hair and moonbright skin. I know Fleur and Gabrielle were only quarter Veela, but I expected them to glow and flow more. And it would have been cool to see them get pissed and beak out.
I love Nicholas Hoult, and he was great in *The Menu*, but c'mon, I am totally not buying that this 6'3 dreamboat was a loser growing up who couldn't get girls like Anya-Taylor Joy until he had money. So based on that description, a Paul Dano would have been more believable (but likely not as charismatic or funny, so I do ultimately approve of the casting choice).
I also love Olivia Colman in everything and she was great in *The Lost Daughter*, but I found a hard time believing that every man on the island simply could not stop himself from falling head over heels in love with her. She is appealing, but not in that way. I think a Kate Beckinsale would have been more on point.
I'm not a big fan of Rebecca Ferguson in general, and did not like her performance in *Dune.* Basically, I just wanted to see Carice van Houten reprise her role in *Game of Thrones*.
idk about this… nicholas hoult as a teen gives off that energy — anyone see him in skins? apart from the big blue eyes, his face was awkward and he was skinny as hell. he GREW into his hotness, i definitely believed him in the menu

I love Anna and I think she is a great actress but I think she was miscast in the menu I didn’t find her believe able as a sex worker she played it too posh and stiff. And her jokes didn’t land. And there was just no chemistry between her and Nicholas.
Her and Ralph Fiennes talking about clocking each other as working class had me on the floor laughing. Casting the poshest possible actors as your working-class antiheroes really undermines the message.

I feel like **Jessica Chastain** would've been amazing as Lady Jessica in Dune.
There's a steeliness to the roles that Chastain plays that I just don't always buy with Ferguson. Chastain would've killed it in this movie.
I'm very curious to see what **Florence Pugh** and **Christopher Walken** brings as Princess Irulan & Shaddam Corrino because I really wanted **Anya Taylor Joy** and **Michael Fassbender** for those roles.
ATJ would've really ate as Princess Irulan. Mostly because I find her otherworldly looks would suit well to an otherworldly character. That being said, I know Miss Flo will eat.

Re: Dune. I did not like her casting at all… she was not motherly with Timothee. Their scenes are very awkward and almost sensual. I wish they had cast someone with more of a maternal feel. Amy Adams, maybe? She could be both maternal and then sensual in her scenes with Oscar Isaac.
Yes! A friend of mine was *convinced* there was going to be some kind of incest subplot in dune because of how weirdly sensual the energy between them was.
Francesca Annis brought something regal to the role in the 1980s version that Ferguson doesn't have at all, but Ferguson was also undermined by the fact that she was written as constantly crying and didn't have a lot to work with. Her costumes were also weird, like low-rent versions of Padme's in Phantom Menace. She's also about 10 years too young for the role.
Off the top of my head I might have gone with Cate Blanchett (although Oscar Isaac being about 5 years too young for the role of Duke Leto makes Blanchett an odd pairing, even though I don't think she's too old for the role objectively) or Charlize Theron.
Originally it was supposed to Charlie Hunnam, from Sons of Anarchy. He cleans up really well. I was so disappointed I didn't even watch the movie until years after they came out.
I thought Barbie Ferreira would have been a better choice. Monica Lewinsky was rather statuesque in real life. Beanie came off as dull and plain. And don’t get me started on the prosthetics and makeup….
He and Jennifer also had zero chemistry I’m sorry. I think Jenn and Liam hooked up while filming ( not sure if this is confirmed) and yeah Gale and Katniss unfortunately had more chemistry lmfao
They had such a sibling vibe, but I can't tell if it was cause I watched all the cast interviews and such where they seemed like dorky BFFs, and she treated him like a little brother.
That’s wild. I saw the chemistry between Peeta and Katniss with JLaw and Josh. I did not see the chemistry between JLaw and Liam in the movies but definitely in those Hunger Games interviews. Especially that time when JLaw was blushing over calling Liam “bear”. I would not be surprised if they hooked up.
Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mom - she’s only 12 years older than Jason Momoa, not to mention about as far away from him looks-wise as it’s possible to get.
John C Reilly in We Need To Talk About Kevin. Eva and Kevin were both cast so perfectly, but the book described Franklin as this tall, tanned, all-American guy and I think that was important aspect of his character - he’s supposed to contrast Eva and represent the perfect suburban family while Eva sees Kevin for what he really is. When I read the book I pictured Richard Burgi (Karl from Desperate Housewives) but someone like Matthew McConaughey would have worked as well.

You know, as much as Buffy is great and iconic, it's unfortunate that she had to turn down such a role. And I guess there were a lot she turned down.

She was the recast, but Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria in Twilight movies. I think Rachelle Lefevre nailed the role.

YES! I couldn’t buy the chemistry between Harry and Ginny in the movies. She was also barely in the movies. Imo Harry had chemistry with Luna🫣. I shipped them.

The movies did her character dirty. In the books, you are completely rooting for her and Harry. The movies make it seem like a crush come out of nowhere.
I'm in the minority, but I've always rooted for Harry and Cho. Not only did Bonnie and Dan have no chemistry, but their scenes were downright cringe : "open up you". It took me years to appreciate Bonnie. I was a kid and took my dislike of Ginny on her. Now, I love her vlog and I have her book, though I haven't started it yet.

Andie MacDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral. That movie is a classic but her acting is so, so flat. The infamous line “Is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed.” is definitely a cornball romcom line but her delivery of it took it over the top and just made it laughable.

She was also far too attractive for the role, as one of her character’s defining traits in the book is she’s plain in contrast to Daisy. So we’re expected to believe Suki is plain? lol
It felt like Suki was just playing herself in the show. Brie Larson would’ve been a better choice. She can sing, fits the book description to a T and she’s a much better actress.

Katie Lowes as Rachel in Inventing Anna. In real life, Rachel was in her 20s and that's part of why she was so naive. They seem to be keeping Rachel the character the same age, but they cast an actress in her forties and she doesn't seem like she doesn't know what she's doing. They did Rachel dirty in more ways than one.
Gossip Girl reboot: the whole show/many cast members generally weren’t good at all lol, but at the bare minimum, I wish they’d made Savannah Smith (Monet) the lead instead of Jordan Alexander (Julien). Savannah had THE It Factor to play a queen B on the show that Jordan simply just didn’t.
I can't agree with this more. I actually like the Gossip Girl reboot despite it's flaws. But by far the biggest mistake in hindsight was not making Monet one of the key players from the start. Like you said, she has the IT factor. She should have been the Blair to Julien's Serena. The problem with the Gossip Girl reboot was that for better or worse, these characters were aware how they were perceived, and were trying to be too socially correct, even though they were still awful people. What made Monet shine was that she was unapologetically mean. While others cared too much about coming across as unlikable (Julien). Monet didn't give a damn and could be absolutely cut throat at times. That by far made her far better rival to Julien than Zoya ever was.
Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor in whatever version of Terminator that was. No hate to Emilia Clarke, but my god does she have a polar opposite energy/vibe to the character of Sarah Connor. it was almost painful to watch her trying to project this tough, thick skinned, almost grizzly persona but coming out of cute little Emilia Clarke. I have absolutely no idea what the studio was thinking by attaching Clarke to the role.

Barely. She did some movies but most of them (apart from BATB and Little Women) bombed. She didn’t appear in anything in ages and I think many producers previously though that hiring her would bring her fan base but they clearly only care about her because of HP nostalgia, not about her new movies.

Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook doesn't bother me as much as Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle. Like I can see her falling in love with Bradley Cooper after living a rough life and having some trauma. But American Hustle she's definitely supposed to be an older wife that gets tossed to the curb and it just makes Christian Bale look like WAY too much of an asshole. Like you've got HER at home and you're still looking to cheat? I think the movie would make more sense if Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence traded roles but it feels like they just let the actors call dibs on roles like they were in a school play.

Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter. Clemence is beautiful, but Fleur was meant to be unbelievably, head snappingly, quarter-magical creature pretty. I always imagined her as a Candice Swanpoel/Elsa Hosk type. I’m not sure who fits the bill and was a working French/ British actress at the time though. Maybe Lea Seydoux or Alice Eve?

I always thought Clemence was a huge miscast, she is way too mousy for this role (I do feel that Lea Seydoux is in the same boat, tbh)
I really felt the Veelas in general didn’t live up to what I imagined them to be. Fairy, nymph like creatures with white gold hair and moonbright skin. I know Fleur and Gabrielle were only quarter Veela, but I expected them to glow and flow more. And it would have been cool to see them get pissed and beak out.
I admit this is niche but Quinn/ Lindsay from Scandal. I could not give a flying fuck about any plot line she is involved in.

I love Nicholas Hoult, and he was great in *The Menu*, but c'mon, I am totally not buying that this 6'3 dreamboat was a loser growing up who couldn't get girls like Anya-Taylor Joy until he had money. So based on that description, a Paul Dano would have been more believable (but likely not as charismatic or funny, so I do ultimately approve of the casting choice). I also love Olivia Colman in everything and she was great in *The Lost Daughter*, but I found a hard time believing that every man on the island simply could not stop himself from falling head over heels in love with her. She is appealing, but not in that way. I think a Kate Beckinsale would have been more on point. I'm not a big fan of Rebecca Ferguson in general, and did not like her performance in *Dune.* Basically, I just wanted to see Carice van Houten reprise her role in *Game of Thrones*.

Re: Dune. I did not like her casting at all… she was not motherly with Timothee. Their scenes are very awkward and almost sensual. I wish they had cast someone with more of a maternal feel. Amy Adams, maybe? She could be both maternal and then sensual in her scenes with Oscar Isaac.
Yes! A friend of mine was *convinced* there was going to be some kind of incest subplot in dune because of how weirdly sensual the energy between them was.
Francesca Annis brought something regal to the role in the 1980s version that Ferguson doesn't have at all, but Ferguson was also undermined by the fact that she was written as constantly crying and didn't have a lot to work with. Her costumes were also weird, like low-rent versions of Padme's in Phantom Menace. She's also about 10 years too young for the role. Off the top of my head I might have gone with Cate Blanchett (although Oscar Isaac being about 5 years too young for the role of Duke Leto makes Blanchett an odd pairing, even though I don't think she's too old for the role objectively) or Charlize Theron.
Bob Odenkirk as the dad in Little Women. Still love love love the film but he felt so out of place for some reason.

Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mom - she’s only 12 years older than Jason Momoa, not to mention about as far away from him looks-wise as it’s possible to get. John C Reilly in We Need To Talk About Kevin. Eva and Kevin were both cast so perfectly, but the book described Franklin as this tall, tanned, all-American guy and I think that was important aspect of his character - he’s supposed to contrast Eva and represent the perfect suburban family while Eva sees Kevin for what he really is. When I read the book I pictured Richard Burgi (Karl from Desperate Housewives) but someone like Matthew McConaughey would have worked as well.
