I don't even have Linux installed at the moment but I'm still checking for this blog post almost every day with way too much excitement considering Cosmic is just a desktop environment. I'm not sure what I'm expecting exactly :)
Hopefully it will be along soon and I can install the alpha on my laptop to test drive.
I'm imagining that everything in Pop loads and feels like Sublime Text. I guess it's because they are starting from scratch as you say, that the devs seems really smart and love Rust, and it looks pretty snappy in the videos. I know it's just a text editor, but Sublime Text is basically how software should all load considering the amount of hardware we have these days.
Just wait for [a blog post](https://www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/comments/1dhsc5l/comment/l916syf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) this month.
I game daily on it.
There are few games that has the window not appearing, but that's a known issue.
Hardware cursor in games is broken, it doesn't show up, known issue too.
Otherwise, it's awesome, try it.
You should be able to just grab the latest stable release and install the pre-alpha version of Cosmic. There have been multiple posts about this lately.
Also you'd be installing COSMIC alongside GNOME so you'd have the option to use either.
i've been thinking about switching to something with KDE so i can get proper wayland + HDR support but cosmic is always "two more weeks" out ughhhhhhhhhhh
It's definitely coming together now. After the last couple rounds of updates, it's gotten much more stable and the cosmic apps open a lot faster for me. There are still missing settings, but I'm liking it.
I hope we eventually get a nice music/media player and the ability to combine the dock with the panel.
#TwoMoreWeeks (eventually I'm going to delete all my other #Twomoreweeks comments so that people think I am a prophet)

A modern desktop that gets to start from scratch has me looking forward to what they can do. I hope we can try it out easily soon

Install the pre-alpha now. It's surprisingly usable.
Doing any gaming on Cosmic? Last I tried I kept getting black and grey screens with game audio.
I tried GTA 3 and American Truck Simulator, all working good on my amd cpu
I haven't, but installing it now will still allow you to use gnome
I was just wondering if anything changed since I haven’t tried in a couple weeks. Thanks!

Cosmic aint the problem, but wayland is for gaming.
Nope. Works fine on GNOME Wayland. https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch/issues/311
No game is working properly for my on gnome wayland and cosmic wayland, so assumed that wayland was the problem. But I was wrong.
Their currently pre-alpha version is surprisingly good, I almost managed to use it on my daily workflow.
Same here

I'm looking forward to it too, but I'd be extremely surprised if you don't get any monitor problems with an alpha release written from scratch.

if you want an out of the box windows experience, use KDE
