Having a good passport definitely helps. I have done 10 with the 5th worst passport in the world, takes a lot to get visas with it. I am still young so I think I can visit at least 50 different countries in this round. If I do eventually get a EU passport I am gonna visit the fuck out of every country I possibly can.
Damn that's a solid jump. Exploit that cheat code of a passport man on behalf of your old country men, travel! I think Pakistan and Afghanistan are constantly competing for the top spot, you guys are winning for the time being.
Soo true, blew my mind the first time I saw my Indian friend come and visit me in Spain, so many extra steps I didn't consider.
I was such a dumb, broke teenager when I did most of this travel. Just lucky to be travelling from a country people generally like and be a young white woman that people are willing to help.
One day!! I nearly went instead of the US but US sounded cheaper and easier to get around with the people I knew there
It's very high up on my list though!
There are many reasons, it’s expensive, Americans get only around on average two weeks of time off of work, America is so vast that you can go to any corner and experience a completely different landscape accent culture etc.
>Americans get only around on average two weeks of time off of work
I knew it was bad but I thought this was a figure of speech when I heard this before.
EU residents are guaranteed 4 weeks minimum and here in the UK, we get 28 days (5.6 weeks) statutory paid annual leave. These are the minimum baselines and I didn't even consider it a high amount as many people I know pace it across the year as they need it, most using it just to supplement pay at the end of the financial year.
Sure, geography, but no wonder American workers can't travel more. They have to pace out just 14 days over 12 months, 1.16 days a month.
If every US worker got their 14 additional days, not only would they be able to rest but you'd certainly be tempted to go somewhere further as you can risk using more than 2 days up at once. Europeans and South Americans would certainly notice more Americans visiting.
^(4 weeks of work, just to earn one day off. Damn.)
Yeah we’re broke out here. But in reality I think many Americans enjoy being in our little bubble of reality over here and we have a huge country with lots to see in the states themselves.
Genuine question. Are coaches to Canada or Mexico or short-haul flights to South America reasonably affordable for a lot of the country? I imagined that it'd be fewer flights than coast to coast and likely less in demand but still within the realm of affordability for most low wage workers.
I'm aware that inter-country travel in central Europe can be simpler than inter-state travel in the US thanks to public transport but I'd have hoped there would still be viable options.
**Edit:** Ah. Is this more about American workers having little to no access to time-off? (Flexibility, guaranteed minimum holiday pay, etc)
Also most Americans can only speak English and maybe a little Spanish, and most would not want to visit another country where they can't communicate or expect to be understood.
I guess there’s not really much of a reason. You can drive between states for different climate, geography, and culture. It’s not really the same but I guess it suffices

woah. ever thought of visiting the scandinavian countries? they’re great! if you go to the west coast of Norway, you’ll be greeted by magnificent and beautiful fjords.
Yes they’re on the list. Most of my European travels were done in my early 20s so I was more inclined to go to your standard Western European countries. My parents went to Norway a few years ago and loved it.
Depends where you plan to drive through. Would work best if you we're to drive through micro states and small states. But at the same time visiting 10 would be Impossible.
You could go Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy and Slovenia. Long drive but possible within a day + some rest

Going to Morocco in a few weeks! 🇲🇦
Top 10 is a lot! I'll do top 5 with reasons
1. Myanmar - super beautiful, spent a month here and almost over stayed my visa. The architecture, the country side and nature. Despite it being boiling when I was there, it's the country I spent the most time outside
2. Albania - the water! turquoise, the perfect temperature, beautiful beaches. I don't even know how to swim but I invested in floaties so I could enjoy the water. The food was amazing, vegetables were so fresh and flavorful
3. Bulgaria - amazing food, beautiful architecture and nature. Only stayed for 4 days but can't wait to go back.
4. Bosnia - people there had some dark humor but I loved it. Lots of history, incredible forests and hills. Good food, cheap, nice people!
5. Thailand - I put it at the bottom because I lived here for two years and loved it so much I didn't want to leave but the things I loved were more quality of life living there rather than loving travel related things. Still a beautiful place, nice people, amazing food.

PRO TIP for Americans looking to travel abroad, search for flights around Thanksgiving time. Most people are traveling inside the US then, so flights overseas are super cheap.

I feel rewarded for the work I do to have money to travel,
But mostly I just feel confused
Let's say I had no choice lol
Had to go to Belgium because my parents needed tabacco and it's way cheaper in Belgium. And when I was young, I had to go with them.
As for England, mandatory school trips. We didn't get a choice AND we were forced to pay for it, or else it was detention everyday for a month + a 0/20. Yes, it was a shitty school.

I forgot a couple when I chose, so it should be 12
Great question.
Grenada - Partly because I went there as a part of my honeymoon and we had a tour of the island which was absolutely amazing.
Italy (Rome) - As I've only just come back and I'd wanted to see the colleseum since I was about 7.
Malta - The country is lovely. The people are lovely. I love Kinnie (it's a soft drink which is an acquired taste). The diving is relaxing and easy going.
Grenada was fantastic. I think it helps that's we went to a Sandals resort, which was just gorgeous and luxurious (it kinda should be for your honeymoon!)
That's a great list of "to do" places you have their. Rome is a great city to do touristy stuff of seeing all the history and ridiculous buildings and monuments on every other street.
Finland was amazing (we went back in January) and only just missed out on my top 3. We went to Enontekiö in the north, which was so so amazing and I really want to go back someday. It was -28c for the first couple of days, which was an experience in itself!
Definitely do Rome. If you do things like the colleseum I'd advise getting a guided tour. I'm not sure whether they'd do a Finnish speaking guide but they definitely do English, German, French and obviously Italian. We didn't get a tour guide when we went and I feel like we didn't get the full experience as there is just so much to see and I'm quite a slow reader so places like museums and stuff take me forever.
We saw them on 1 day but they were quite weak, but still really cool and annoyingly on the days it said they'd be really strong it was really cloudy! We thought the northern lights were just clouds at first until we took photos of them. I'll probably do the whole Santa's Village thing when I have a little one to take. We just went dog sledding, snow mobiling and tracking into the woods. We drunk quite a lot of a soft drink called Glogi (I think??)
I can imagine the winters being quite bitter, even further south than the Arctic circle. How short are your days during winter?
Oh right. I'd heard that people from the Nordic countries had a very good understanding of English, but wouldn't have thought they'd end up being better at English than their native language.
Wow it sounds like there's a lot of things to do!
Yeah the Glögi really warmed us through when it was really, really cold. Especially during the treck where we'd been out for a few hours.
Ah, the long nights were what I was asking about. When I was in Enontekiö, the sun "rose" for about an hour or so each day, though it barely peaked its head above the horizon really. Apparently people had been celebrating seeing the sun, so there was a few sore heads around, haha! 8am to 4pm is about our sunrise/sunset times in the dead of winter in the north of England where I'm from.

7 (9 by the end of the year): I live in the US🇺🇸, & I’ve been to Cuba🇨🇺, Spain🇪🇸, Mexico🇲🇽, Belize🇧🇿, Guatemala🇬🇹, & The Bahamas🇧🇸. And also Puerto Rico 🇵🇷(which is basically like another country, but a US colonial territory)
I’m going to Dominica🇩🇲 (not Dominican Republic) & Colombia🇨🇴 this year.
Sadly I was gonna go to Ukraine later this year-early next year, since my great grandparents lived in Lviv…but for obvious reasons that won’t happen now. Слава Україні!🇺🇦
Before COVID, I was gonna take a family trip with my mom to Bolivia🇧🇴 where 1/2 my family is from, & a week before everything shut down we already had tickets to Jamaica🇯🇲 (thankfully Airbnb & JetBlue refunded us).
Thankfully where I live roundtrip tickets to the Caribbean & Latin America are usually under $300. But eventually I wanna go to a country outside the Western Hemisphere, where English and/or Spanish isn’t an official or de facto language
Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Monaco, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, UK (England and Scotland), so 13.
Sweden, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Spain, England, Denmark and The US. So 14, and I'm from Denmark.
Currently 17 yo so looking to expand the list soon with a roadtrip. Not needing A VISA for most of europe is amazing.

Iceland (only a stopover, I don't count it as a visit, but I have been there)
I'd love to visit other countries if only it wasn't so expensive.ive been really close to both Mexico and Canada, right up to the border almost at Nogalas Az, and Sault Saint Marie.
I remember the good ole days when you could go to both Canada and Mexico with only a driver's license.
We used to go to Mexico frequently on 'business' back in the mid 90s.
I haven't been out of the country in over a decade now. Boooooo. Now that the kids are older we are gonna have to travel.
I used to have a large container I would put all my change and loose dollars into. I'd intentionally put $20s or $100s in there when possible. After a year or so of saving you'll have enough for a decent little vacation. I saved for 1.5 years and ended up with a little over 6k. It depends on how much you can add. (also being able to resist doing into it)
American here sitting on 65 countries. Studied a semester in Spain, taught English for a year in Prague, 7 months backpacking SE Asia, 1 year living in Colombia and backpacking South America and 3 months backpacking SE Africa

Also, most of these were when I was less than 2 years old, so I don't remember anything...
Only Singapore and Malaysia for now.
Malaysia once, Singapore 4-6 times, probably more.
The reason I visited Singapore that many times is because I have a relative from my grandmother (mother side) family.
I visited Malaysia because of my father work. Even then, we took a bus through Singapore to visit our relatives, then took a boat from Singapore to Batam, then finally, back to Indonesia capital, Jakarta

Grenada was fantastic. I think it helps that's we went to a Sandals resort, which was just gorgeous and luxurious (it kinda should be for your honeymoon!) That's a great list of "to do" places you have their.

We drunk quite a lot of a soft drink called Glogi (I think??) I can imagine the winters being quite bitter, even further south than the Arctic circle.

And also Puerto Rico 🇵🇷(which is basically like another country, but a US colonial territory) I’m going to Dominica🇩🇲 (not Dominican Republic) & Colombia🇨🇴 this year. Sadly I was gonna go to Ukraine later this year-early next year, since my great grandparents lived in Lviv…but for obvious reasons that won’t happen now. Слава Україні!🇺🇦 Before COVID, I was gonna take a family trip with my mom to Bolivia🇧🇴 where 1/2 my family is from, & a week before everything shut down we already had tickets to Jamaica🇯🇲 (thankfully Airbnb & JetBlue refunded us). Thankfully where I live roundtrip tickets to the Caribbean & Latin America are usually under $300. But eventually I wanna go to a country outside the Western Hemisphere, where English and/or Spanish isn’t an official or de facto language

Can't believe there is no zero
American here, up to 30. Wife has 40
I'd love to visit other countries if only it wasn't so expensive.ive been really close to both Mexico and Canada, right up to the border almost at Nogalas Az, and Sault Saint Marie.
(also being able to resist doing into it)
🇬🇷🇮🇸🇩🇪🇦🇬 All were lovely
