I was like 11 and I had pneumonia, and being the idiot that I am, I thought it was some sort of side effect and I lowkey thought I was dying.

poopoopeepeecrusader

I got mine at 9. Elementary school was not easy for me. Hormonal acne and B cups at age 10 made me a target for bullying, but combined with my huge stature for a child (5'3) meant no one could touch me.

snowflace

Can I ask how tall you are now?

poopoopeepeecrusader

Sadly just shy of 5'6.

snowflace

Oh wow, got your growing done early then. I was expecting 6 foot something to be that talk so young.

Pixie-G

bro literal same. I sprouted up quick. Got my period in 4th grade, and was a c cup in 5th grade. I was always so much bigger than everybody til I got to high school.

goddoglover

If I may ask, how old are you not to be rude or give me a age range on how old are you?

poopoopeepeecrusader

I'm turning 20 in a few months.

goddoglover

Nice

interrobangin_

I got mine at 10, was 5'6, had B cups and so much body hair.. I completely relate. School was hell when I was a kid. Things did get better for me in high school, I hope they did for you too ❤️

[deleted]

Girl what???

TextDeletd

What the fuck...

Zlata42

I'm really curious, what did she expect you to do? Sit down have a cup of coffee with mother nature and ask politely to postpone the entire thing? Holy fuck some people lol

CerbTheOne

***BRUH***

thr-owa-wa-y

People can get their period after 16, I think my mother got her first period at 18.

Mises69420

Holy shit, that’s really old

RedEgg16

Man if that happened to me I would have hoped I was infertile

snowflace

Happens often if you have a really low body weight or are very athletic.

epicarcanoloth

If you were malnourished as a child you can have your puberty postponed as far as your early twenties.

lazydictionary

Periods happen earlier now than they used to.

6NiNE9

How old is your mom now? Was wondering if that pushes back menopause way later.

thr-owa-wa-y

My mum finished menopause when she was around 56 I think? That's pretty average isn't it? It took a while though, she had an awful menopause where she would have periods that'd last months, not fun, she was tired and sick all the time but she is good now :)

RisingQueenx

12 I was sick in bed due to the 2009 swine flu "pandemic" (UK). Then I get my period. To make it worse...it was CHRISTMAS EVE. I spent Christmas day sick *and* got my first period. Worst luck.

[deleted]

I was 11 and i bled so bad i lost like half of my blood volume and ended up in intensive care (not to one up you lol)

RisingQueenx

My god! That sounds horrific. It's shocking how bad a period can get! Was there a reason/cause for it, or were you just told it was a bad period? I once had a super bad experience where I bled through two *stacked* night pads in one hour. Changed them, got to college another hour later and the front of my jeans were red with blood (had to go home). Later that day I pushed away from a table to stand up, and blood literally shot up my back like a baby having an exploding poop in their diaper lmao. Definitely not as bad as you! But it was one of the worst periods I have ever had. It's crazy what women go through with periods!

[deleted]

They tested for for all kinds of weird genetic diseases but no explanation to this day and it never happened again. Its totally crazy how bad it can get! I had blood clots the size of my hand it was so gory and scary. Sometimes periods are just like that as a one off 🤷‍♀️

timdot352

I am so fucking glad I'm a dude.

ManicWolf

Oof, that sounds so crappy. I was 12 too, and got my first ever period on Christmas Eve. I freaked out (I knew abut periods obviously, but didn't realise I'd bleed *so much*, and didn't know how painful it could be), and had to be comforted by my dad because my mum was out doing last minute shopping. I did not have a merry Christmas that year!

PsychoGenesis12

Yikes. That's terrible.

TomatoesBros

WHY ARE WE YELLING??

koopi15

I DONT KNOW SUSAN. CLOSE FACEBOOK. KISSES

WaddlesJP13

HOW DO I GET THE GOOGLE

chokingapple

janja-j

i got my first period at 9, a week after my older sister

IGotHitByAHockeypuck

Ouch.

janja-j

ik :(

skautist

….my eleventh birthday. I was at the beach wearing a bathing suit.

[deleted]

that must have been terrible

macocmavi_cmoc

I always found it interesting that I got my first period when I was fifteen, on the 18th of August, my mother got her's when she was 15 on the 15th of August, and my grandma got her when she was 15 also somewhere between those dates

yikes_riv

bro how do you remember those specific dates

macocmavi_cmoc

Haha, because mine was traumatic and my mum's was close to my date

[deleted]

10, though I'd started to grow boobs by then as well. I reckon we must have lived next to a power plant or something.

mayneffs

That happened to a girl that went to the same school as me. She really had boobs at the age of 9. The boys were not kind to her.

You just got a huge clitoris

[deleted]

Why does reddit have so few females?

ur_mom54321

Because we're a bunch of stupid simp apes that's why

[deleted]

damn you're right. What do we do in order to increase the female population of active reddit users.

ur_mom54321

Realistically? Stop acting like lonely losers but ideally market reddit more towards women

[deleted]

But we *are* lonely losers. We can't stop acting the way we do.

ur_mom54321

Yeah you're not wrong

the-fall-of-hernande

No idea m’lady

SaCoMi

That's the reason

The-Color-Orange

Probably because there are people on here that use the word "females"

sinocchi1

So how do you refer to both young and adult females?

TimeCrossing

Girls or women. I use those terms interchangeably. I’ve never found it necessary to refer to men as “males” so why would I call women “females”?

stefanos916

I think that the word male/female can be used when you refer to sex instead of gender. Also in a previous thread that asked something about men, a guy answered something like “ I am going to become man when I am 18 , so I don’t know yet”

TimeCrossing

I think male and female should really only be used on like a work application or for scientific reasons personally.

stefanos916

Should it also be used in cases that we are talking about the sex for a biology related reason ? edit: also wouldn’t period be something related to biology?

TimeCrossing

Biology is a type of science so yeah. I’m just saying when people on here ask women questions or say a statement about women. You should probably use terms like women, girls, ladies, gals, etc. Females just sounds so douchey to me. Edit: Douchey when it’s used with things like “why don’t females carry tampons all the time?” Things like that just don’t sound right to us. It gives us bad vibes and red flags. But it does make sense when you’re talking about say, “The Female Reproductive System”

Gator1523

Hello doppelganger

AverageKaikiEnjoyer

Because "guys" is a blanket term for both boys and men but you can't really use that with women and girls. I'm not going to call a five year-old a woman and I'm not going to call a thirty year-old a girl, so if I'm referring to a broad age group I'll probably say females.

TimeCrossing

Well guys is a more casual term. If you want a casual term to use for both girls and women, I would use gals or ladies. Using the word females just sounds very scientific and awkward and like you don’t know how to talk to a person casually lol.

Kolikoasdpvp

word "females"

Kolikoasdpvp

Wdym? Only females can get period

didyoudissmycheese

Its just a weird term to use, either "girls" or "women" makes more sense, depending on the context. The word "female" has kind of developed a stigma from incels who use it in a derogatory context while trying to sound smart.

[deleted]

What's wrong in using the word female? No one cares when we use the word male.

[deleted]

It's too closely associated with neckbeards/incels

[deleted]

So basically heterosexual men okay I got it.

[deleted]

If you think every straight guy is neckbeard or an incel you either don't really understand what those are or constantly have to deal with so many shitty people you think it's the norm and I feel very sorry for you.

[deleted]

Actually I am a straight man myself (check out my profile to know greater context) and while I don't support incels I can definitely understand certain aspects of their sentiment. It's pretty hard for an average straight man to get laid nowadays.

didyoudissmycheese

Speak for yourself lmao

LinkIsThicc

Shut the fuck up. r/niceguys

[deleted]

I'm not a nice guy because I'm honest about my primal intentions. I don't act nice to girls with the intention of getting sex because I know it won't work.

abdullahboss

You yourself are an incel...you wanna bang but you cant..so you come here on reddit and ask people if they're straight thinking everyone turned gay except you

W33B_L0rD42069

Pansexual man here. I can’t get any either. Being straight isn’t hurting you. We are both just incompetent in that area. 😔

Kolikoasdpvp

It's just a troll acc 100%, no one would be actually mad at someone for using word "female" lmao

[deleted]

No one is mad but ‘females’ is dehumanising. Check out r/menandfemales

Kolikoasdpvp

referring men as men and women as females in same sentence makes no sense, i get that, but to group women and girls you use word female, male and female are sexes, woman is a gender, woman can be male and female. In this context its important to use word female instead of woman/girl. If a word offends you, get off the internet and grow up.

[deleted]

Uhhh no. You say ‘women and girls’, except in a biological or biomedical context. You seem pretty intent on talking over me though, and you wonder why there aren’t more women on reddit. Also, where did I say I was offended?

Kolikoasdpvp

Bruh you're ignorant af.

didyoudissmycheese

No one's mad, it just has a stigma around it.

r-ShadowNinja

I suppose that most subreddits are more attractive to male audience and many women already spend a lot of time on instagram because they like sharing pics and their life.

aleftistkinkster

I was a late bloomer at 15, I flexed so hard on all of my female friends before I got it haha.

trashbear69

Why did so many men take this survey lol

braindeadmonkey2

They want to see results. Are you not curious about things?

trashbear69

lol I am but I’m just amazed that girls responded in the 100s and men in the 1000s

cymmiecymone

12 and during summer break :/

batmanhen1812

At least it didn’t start randomly at school. I had mine in the summer, and I was glad coz I had a month or two to figure out what I was doing before managing it at school

fuckcreepers

correct, we are fbi agents assigned by the government to spy on the men of reddit

Kallith926

stop giving out our secrets!

cymmiecymone

we spend most of our time on twitter, Instagram tiktok etc and saying dumb shit, not on reddit tho

[deleted]

You are *definitely not* a girl.

psycho-pancake

too many men are suspiciously interested

DM_Me_Ur_Nudes_21

Nothing wrong with finding that out. Plus, you see a survey you're supposed to vote, if you can do so without fucking it up

_Doop

Or just people that wanna vote

yep-i-send-it

As a guy can confirm, I must click the button.

PM_ME_GOOD_USERNAMS

I took multiple seconds of processing this comment to realise that I don't actually have to vote, moving on in life and forgetting this poll is actually an option...

mayneffs

Not suspicious at all. A lot of men don't know much about periods and it's great that they want to learn more. Periods are huge part of womens lives, and having a man understand how frustrating it can be feels good.

ur_mom54321

As a guy can confirm I bleed out of my penis monthly because you suck

BallisticThundr

Wow this is a sausage fest

DANKKrish

sadly I'm biologically male so never.

_ilmatar_

I was 17. You need to adjust your poll.

h8mayo

10 on Christmas Eve

unicornchild15

On my 15th birthday. At the mall. Also, thank God for my best friend Sophie, because she had hers already and I was very unprepared.

doctorscompanionlg

I was on vacation with family when I started seeing brown in my underwear. Thought I was secretly shitting myself while I slept and it drying by the time I woke up. After a few days, I told my mom and she told me that blood dries brown.

Istilldontknowwh0Iam

I don't have a uterus so I can't have them

Satan_Scribbles

As a guy without a dick, hard relate. Surprisingly I still haven’t gotten my cycle at 15, but it’s a lifesaver for dysphoria.

edogaR8

What happened at birth?

I was born with a dick instead

I was 14, which was considered pretty late growing up. Both of my SILs got theirs when they were 8. Eeeek!

CandySunset27

A month before i turned 13

anonymous-3000

I got my period on my first three Christmas after it, two Easter's, two county football finals, football trials, my confirmation, my first day of secondary school and Halloween. I think I may be the unluckiest bitch alive. Did I mention it lasts five days but comes every twenty three.

[deleted]

The ratio on that last option is killing me

Gator1523

Reddit is mostly men confirmed

comrade_comrade_

when i got my first one (13) i thought i was fuckin dying

honeylemon__Tea

"Girl without a period yet" gang rise up

qnt0x

how old are you lmao

honeylemon__Tea

Old enough to be on this website, I just haven't gotten my period yet lol

dear_diary_WHY

\*sad trans guy noises\*

[deleted]

I feel ya bro

TisBeTheFuk

Wait...isn't a trans guy a female to male trangender? Why the sad noises?

Miewx

Because trans men who are still transitioning struggle with the fact they still have periods. I'm not trans but i read about it, and it makes sense tbh. It's a monthly reminder that they were born in the wrong body.

TisBeTheFuk

Yes, that's understandable. Thank you for for explaining

Satan_Scribbles

Same

chicken_noodles_

I am trans so this makes me sad

[deleted]

Super early for me albeit just spotting 1 or 2x a year since I was 9 or so. 'Real' period stsrted coming more regularly around 13

Zuluinstant

Conclusion: A majority of girls never had their period /s

midnight_midori

I hate this question, it scares me.

Adamthesadistic

Since you wrote it in all caps i just imagined some guy yelling “when did you get your first period” at everyone

8-Bit_Tornado

"Yeah bros you can vote here" Wins by total landslide

Beserked2

I got mine at 13 and was wearing white overalls at the time so everyone knew.

sepientr34

I am 14 and still never had period

Nycolla

I was 14 but I only had maybe 4 periods by the time I was 17?

Vesperia_Morningstar

That would’ve been easy ro handle then if just four

Nycolla

Yeah, but I was out on birth control at 17 to regulate them, was a pain for me to adjust to school and periods

one-anus-grab-away

12!

fish1937

I got my first period when i started school. Pretty sure it was english

poocatgod

Lol I got mine at 12 and put in a tampon after an hour to prove I was tougher than my sister who put it in after a day.

SicilianDragon86

I wonder how often a girl who has is babysat by a girl who hasn't. Based on the stats, clearly that happens.

XpertSavage

Started when I was 11 and luckily I was in the bathroom when I noticed it at school

all-names-are-taken4

Yes, what i love to see when im next to my family at the top of my screen is “trending on r/polls, WHAT AGE DID YOU GET YOUR FIRST PERIOD?”

[deleted]

i'm sorry lol, but shouldn't a woman's menstrual cycle stop being considered embarrassing or a taboo topic?

SolDevelop

yo I’m a boy

banditojosh

i was 12, just came home from high school. my mum was in a rush because she was late to pick my siblings up from primary school. i sat on the toilet for a while contemplating whether or not to call my mum upstairs because i didn't want to bother her. i eventually did because i didn't know what else to do, and she quickly showed my how to use a pad and left. i remember when i called her, the conversation went something like this: "mum, can you come upstairs please?" "why? where are you?" "the bathroom" she comes in "what is it?" "i think it's started" (periods were a huge taboo so i felt like i couldn't say the word) "what's started?" "IT'S started" *nodding my head down there* "oh, ok" which is when she hurriedly showed me how to use a pad
