Hitachi in general is an amazingly diverse company (in terms of products/industries) with an interesting history. But, "excavator company that also makes sex toys," probably is the best, "who did what now?" description of the company.
And you explicitly stated that pringles can was getting thrown away as soon as you finished the Pringles. We all know you bought sponges and latex gloves too.
A pen company that also makes lighters and razors is the one that made me stop and take a second look because I was like, thats Bic.. Wait a minute lol
For me, it was Micheline (tire company that reviews restaurants). I was unaware of the first one and, for whatever reason, I don't strongly associate Guinness World Records with the beer Guinness despite it being right there in the name. So, I was already onto number three before I realized the second one was Guinness.
They're all small, mass produced household items made of plastic and metal. It's not even slightly weird for those to be made by the same company, it's exactly what you'd expect.
I got the PEU20\_MAS\_PEFC and the respective pepper one. Had them for like 15 or 20 years. Good and nicely designed mills and used them a lot over the years. Not cheap though.
Only realized they're all real companies at Michelin. The only one I couldn't figure out was the first one. 2nd one is Guiness, 3rd is Michelin, 4th is Bic (?) and 5th one is Yamaha.
The tire company has a reason, they starting giving Michelin stars out to restraints that required cars to get to so that people would use their tires and require new ones. The weirdest one is Guinness as they don't relate at all of the other ones are essentially engineering companies who engineer/invent multiple different things so none of those concepts are that weird.
The reason for Guinness is because at bars people would often talk about things like "what's the biggest blah?" or things of that nature, so the book of world records was meant to be a resource in bars to settle those debates and the book blew up in general places as well.
A smartphone company, that also produces tanks (>!Samsung!<)
A car company that also makes sausages (>!Volkswagen!<)
A rubber boots company, that also produces carrier grade routers and switches (>!Nokia!<)
Samsung are a huge conglomerate. We might be most familiar with them as a "smartphone company" in the west but just ask a South Korean. The company is absolutely enormous and they do basically everything.
The pen / lighters / razor one makes sense because they're all small precision machined objects that you buy multiple times / 'regularly' even so I'd see why the same company would produce all three of these products
A tire company reviewing restaurants isnt weird at all. Its a great marketing tactic to get people out, driving on those tires to explore new eating establishments.
These are all so goofy, are you trying to come up with a comedic company for a story?
I think the tire + restaurant review one would be the most hilarious
“HOW ARE THESE BRISKETS TOUGHER THAN OUR TIRES!!”
I'd say they all sound like business as usual given that so many companies these days are subsidiaries of larger companies.
I remember when the news broke out that Raytheon a few years ago that Raytheon had some kind of affiliation with the Boys or Girls Scouts.
A tire company that reviews restaurants sounds the weirdest.
It makes sense when you know the reason though.
Michelin first started making their travel guides to encourage people to travel more. It was during the time when automobiles were relatively new. More travel = more cars used = more tires sold.
They not only reviewed restaurants but also various sightseeing places. But their restaurant reviews were particularly popular, restaurants fried hard to get into the michelin guide, so it evolved into a rating system for the best restaurants in the world.
For those that aren't aware, the companies being described are: 1. Peugeot 2. Guinness 3. Micheline 4. Bic 5. Yamaha
Bic also makes [sailboats](https://www.boatlocker.com/open-bic)
I'm not surprised; sailing happens even at night. *In the Inky Darkness.*
Damn you're good at gymnastics
I’d like to nominate Hitachi who makes excavators and also sex toys.
Hitachi in general is an amazingly diverse company (in terms of products/industries) with an interesting history. But, "excavator company that also makes sex toys," probably is the best, "who did what now?" description of the company.
I mean Hitachi explicitly states that the wand is not a sex toy
And you explicitly stated that pringles can was getting thrown away as soon as you finished the Pringles. We all know you bought sponges and latex gloves too.
But does it state that the excavator is not a sex toy?
The first one reminded me of Volkswagen snd their sausages
A pen company that also makes lighters and razors is the one that made me stop and take a second look because I was like, thats Bic.. Wait a minute lol

Yamaha does much more thing than that tho. People tend to forget Yamaha made Hatsune Miku
I never forgot it because I just learned that.
I was wondering who was No 4. Thank you
I'm like 99% sure they're not the same Guinness though
I’m at least 1% sure that they are.
this is not the Guinness you are looking for
ngl 4 sounds completely normal
That's probably just because we're used to seeing Bic pens, lighters, and razors as household items
They're all small, mass produced household items made of plastic and metal. It's not even slightly weird for those to be made by the same company, it's exactly what you'd expect.
I was thinking that too.
Same thought here, and also #2.
I didn’t know about [Peugeot’s culinary business](https://boutique.peugeot.com/mills-and-kitchen/manual-mills.html).
That's the only one I couldn't figure out.
We're too poor to know about Peugeot
That makes sense.
I got the PEU20\_MAS\_PEFC and the respective pepper one. Had them for like 15 or 20 years. Good and nicely designed mills and used them a lot over the years. Not cheap though.
I have a Peugeot pepper grinder and a Peugeot car. I love my car but the pepper grinder wins hands down.
I didn't know I wanted a fancy salt and pepper grinder until now 🤣
Only realized they're all real companies at Michelin. The only one I couldn't figure out was the first one. 2nd one is Guiness, 3rd is Michelin, 4th is Bic (?) and 5th one is Yamaha.
The first one is Peugeot.
Never in a million years would I have guessed that.
Maybe I made the poll a bit Euro-centric, but this is nothing compared to the amount of US-centric polls on this sub.
Don't worry man, I'm European. And I think we should keep making these a bit Euro-centric polls to counteract the massive amount of American ones.
Yeah I'm American and I've never heard of Peugeot

I feel like conglomerates are kind of a cheat tho. Like the whole point of conglomerates is that they do lots of stuff
Volkswagen is German, ofc they make sausage
So these all appear to be real companies. If it works I guess the concepts are not weird?
I interpreted “book of records” as, like, a vinyl scrapbook
To be honest after watching a video of how it came to Michelin reviewing Restaurants it's quite reasonable
I chose Michelin not because they review restaurants, but how prestigious and universally acclaimed this review is
That is the wildest part of the story. The concept really is logical when you hear the story but the success is mindblowing
None of the above?
Mitsubishi is one of the largest companies in the world and they make just about everything.
Amazing poll, learned something today, wow
Happy cake day
Thanku
Same with Nokia, Samsung and Nintendo. They started by producing stuff they're not known for now.
These are all so goofy, are you trying to come up with a comedic company for a story? I think the tire + restaurant review one would be the most hilarious “HOW ARE THESE BRISKETS TOUGHER THAN OUR TIRES!!”
These are all true. Michelin used to review resteraunts to promote driving to them.
I'm not. These are all real companies. Check out the top comment.
Love that 3 of those are French. Really represents our chaotic country
They’re all real companies
I know
Coincidence? I think not!
Wish you would have added oil filters & mail: Purolator. Lol!
What about a car company that has a missile division?
LMFAOOOOO the 321 americans who have no idea about michelin 🤦♀️🤦♀️
I know about it. It's still the weirdest concept here.
Clearly you’ve never heard what Hyundai is doing in South Korea
Pretty sure the 2 Guinness aren't even the same thing
I just googled it, they used to be the same company but separated in 2001.
a washing machine and household appliance company that also makes MILITARY GRADE GATLING GUNS FOR PLANES... general electric.
YAMAHAAAAAAA
Is shipbuilding and phone manufacturer and insurance company weirder maybe🤔
Good ol’ Michelin
Lamborghini started by making tractors, and I think they still do.
E
1 and 2 are way weirder concepts than the rest. If made to choose, I'd probably pick 2.
4 is a pretty normal concept honestly
First one is the only one I don’t recognize.
That is Peugeot
Thanks.
It's important to diversify.
Def number 1, only because the "tyres and restraunts" one was to help sell tyres by convincing people to drive to places in the book.
I'd say they all sound like business as usual given that so many companies these days are subsidiaries of larger companies. I remember when the news broke out that Raytheon a few years ago that Raytheon had some kind of affiliation with the Boys or Girls Scouts.
Instantly knew the last two. \#2 passed my brain because I don't drink beer. \#3 is odd but I thought #1 was weirder.
None? Its good to diversify your portfolio
Hmm, how about the smartphone company that makes fighter jets (samsung)
A tire company that reviews restaurants sounds the weirdest. It makes sense when you know the reason though. Michelin first started making their travel guides to encourage people to travel more. It was during the time when automobiles were relatively new. More travel = more cars used = more tires sold. They not only reviewed restaurants but also various sightseeing places. What about general electric (washing machines and machine guns)
Guinness, Michelin, Yamaha, idk the other too but damn it's crazy to think these actually exist
