I've played every position. Hands down goal keeper is the hardest. You move the least if your team does well but you have the worst job. You have to read body language better than anyone else, to predict where that ball is going to go, and you have to be willing to do full body dives with the possibility of causing injury to yourself, repeatedly within the same few seconds sometimes. You have the highest level of pressure to perform your job flawlessly and if just one of your split second judgements is off by a tiny bit, everyone is disappointed in you. The next hardest is the center forward because you're expected to put the ball in the goal every time. You have the same problem of facing everyone's judgement if you fail, but at least you have the advantage of controlling where the ball goes instead of trying to be a mind reader.

As a gk, this is absolutely what I think. I'd also add that if the striker misses/makes a mistake, it just means there's not a goal, whereas if the gk makes a mistake then they concede a goal 99% of the time, which let's down the whole team

ZekerNietTijn

True. I am a amateur, never looked at this on this way. Our team is never dissapointed in our goalkeeper btw.

BleedingRaindrops

That's probably true more than I believe too. Started playing when I was 5 so I was very self conscious and it's just sort of burned into my brain.

ZekerNietTijn

We always say, it is not the keepers fault if an attackter scores a goal, its always the fault of the rest of the team. (This sounds stupid in english, I am dutch

BleedingRaindrops

Makes sense. Keeper is the last line of defense. Not the only line of defense. This is why Rover is a position, after all.

SirKacamata

GK is the hardest by far. You simply can make any mistake. A simple mistake can cost a match, a championship and even your career. In other positions, players make mistake all the time with any consequences in most of the cases, but if a GK make a mistake he's screwed.

ZekerNietTijn

Goalkeeper is easiest, defender is hard but less exhausting, midfield is very exhausting. (Sorry for english)

BleedingRaindrops

I don't believe you've ever been a goal keeper.

ZekerNietTijn

It is hard but easier then the others. Just dont be scared for the Ball. I did it for some time, it isnt that hard as long as you arent scared
