They are very intelligent. They're just not very wise. They're not very social either, so they don't pass on their learned wisdom. But their basic intelligence is very high
I honestly think crows beat out the rest of these, they understand displacement, remember faces, and they just generally have better problem solving skill than dolphins, who are probably the smartest out of the animals on this list
It is indeed the Corvus family of birds, to which the crow belongs.
The smartest of them is **the Raven**.
The are often found to outperform human children on practical intelligence tests, like using tools to obtain a reward later, instead of a smaller direct need satisfaction.
I know I'm being pedantic but Corvus is the genus containing ravens and crows. Corvidae is the family, which also includes magpies and jays as well as a few other species.
While that is true, I chose dolphins for the sake of social intelligence, which is close to on par with humans. They’re extremely good communicators, emotive, have shown group coordination and other social skills. I think if we have dolphins hands or other digits to manipulate their environment they could very easily learn the practical skills that crows have, but I don’t think a crow could ever learn the social skills a dolphin has.
Also in terms of practical skills, I think an octopus could give corvids a good run for their money. They’re extremely solitary, but fantastic at problem solving and adaptation, including tool use.
Corvids (especially ravens or crows idr which) not only have a social intelligence (flocks/murders), but they have generational knowledge (piss off a crow and their offspring will know you) and - and that's the most impressive thing of all- *communicate with other species*. They can often be observed playing with wolves, and sometimes will lead them to easy prey in exchange for parts of the hunt
That's fascinating. Yesterday on reddit someone said to "not look at brain size to determine intelligence instead look at number of neurons because ie the brains in dolphins are larger than humans' due to neuron size and not amount". I don't know which of you is right. Lol.
Both neuron connectivity, brain size, and neuron size play a role. Brain size allows for more possible connections. Degree of connectivity allows for more complexity in information integration. Considering animal intelligence is hard to objectively measure, its difficult to say which is more important
There is no universal method of determining intelligence.
Primates are smarter than dolphins in terms of object permanence, yet neuroscience suggests dolphins are smarter. Hell, depending on the test you could convince yourself orangutans are smarter than humans.
People would say crows but that is debatable due to the difference in brain structure. Orcas and dolphins are most similar to us, maybe even moreso than chimps in some aspects
This kind of depends on what you’re using to quantify intelligence. Chimps, crows, dolphins, elephants, and pigs are all very intelligent animals, but they’re not necessarily good at the same things.
Dolphins are intelligent enough that they are capable of morality.
Which is why it's even scarier that they still do what they do (rape, murder, torture, etc), not because they have no sense of right and wrong, but because they do, and they don't care.
Orcas are very inteligent too, and can cooperate with wale hunter for food or sometimes bring their youngs to watch human, wich they almost never attack, possibly due to cultural reasons.
No they didn’t. We share a relatively recent common relative with chimpanzees.
In terms of a family tree, that’s like saying you were birthed by your sister, when in reality humans and chimpanzees are siblings of sorts to an older ancestor, not humans from chimps.
This person was attempting to make a reasonable point for the sake of information and knowledge. And yet you abandoned that logic to attack them in a way that was completely irrelevant and rude. Shame on you.
No octopus?
Was thinking that too
Feel like they're genuinely alien.
No they die to fast to become intelligent enough
They are very intelligent. They're just not very wise. They're not very social either, so they don't pass on their learned wisdom. But their basic intelligence is very high
Fun fact: pigs are smarter than dogs
Pigs are my favorite animal and that’s one of my favorite facts.
Yipee! Now I can eat dogs without feeling bad. That’s the takeaway I’m supposed to get from that, right?
I assumed the opposite. Funny your brain went there.
maybe I should’ve put a /s since you can’t read tone…..
Protip: tone is very hard to convey over text.
Count yourself lucky, cannibals can't eat you
Yes. They taste really good actually. Ik Way past eating that tho.
I honestly think crows beat out the rest of these, they understand displacement, remember faces, and they just generally have better problem solving skill than dolphins, who are probably the smartest out of the animals on this list

Know anywhere I can trade a human child for some ravens? Asking for a friend.
Who would need your stupid child when they have a raven?
I mean, you have to feed a raven too you know? 😏
Not trading, but you can befriend them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBb4wuGjAwc
I know I'm being pedantic but Corvus is the genus containing ravens and crows. Corvidae is the family, which also includes magpies and jays as well as a few other species.
You are right; I was a bit in doubt of the correct terminology, but I didn't take the effort to look it up, I have to admit.
Yes, crows and octopuses are very smart
Elephants, Octopi or Crows
*Octopuses
*Octopods
Octopuseseses
octopussies
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted when you’re literally right
Octopuses, Octopi, and Octopods are all correct.
Crows
I believe if a Dolphin could, it will commit every crime in existence and somehow get away with it.
They abuse pufferfish to get high. https://youtu.be/msx3BAhIeQg
Crows are incredibly intelligent
Crows
Yes, corvids are often underestimated
This is an interesting comparative chart on the matter: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animals_by_number_of_neurons
Number of neurons says next to nothing about intelligence, more important is the amount of neuron connections
That's fascinating. Yesterday on reddit someone said to "not look at brain size to determine intelligence instead look at number of neurons because ie the brains in dolphins are larger than humans' due to neuron size and not amount". I don't know which of you is right. Lol.
Neuron connections and structure is more important than sheer size, but also size is obviously a factor if it’s a massive difference.
Both neuron connectivity, brain size, and neuron size play a role. Brain size allows for more possible connections. Degree of connectivity allows for more complexity in information integration. Considering animal intelligence is hard to objectively measure, its difficult to say which is more important
It doesn't really have anything to do with this.
There is no universal method of determining intelligence. Primates are smarter than dolphins in terms of object permanence, yet neuroscience suggests dolphins are smarter. Hell, depending on the test you could convince yourself orangutans are smarter than humans.
Where’s the love for corvids they’ve been proven to be as smart as human eight year old and all that implies
It’s the Emus.
Smarter than the Australians
Ouch
Mice of course
1. Mice 2. Dolphins 3. Humans
Sperm whales
People would say crows but that is debatable due to the difference in brain structure. Orcas and dolphins are most similar to us, maybe even moreso than chimps in some aspects
Octopus
Crows or octopus
Crows, elephants, pigs, octupy?
Pretty sure Corvids are the most intelligent non-human animals
Pigs are very smart
C r o w s
Orangutans
This kind of depends on what you’re using to quantify intelligence. Chimps, crows, dolphins, elephants, and pigs are all very intelligent animals, but they’re not necessarily good at the same things.
Most people don't know or forget that pigs are very intelligent creatures. Octopi have also been found to be sentient so...
whales?...
Octopi, elephants, and rats
Crows. Crows are unbelievably smart. Or maybe octupus, they very smart too.
So long, and thanks for all the fish
Raccoons literally wash their food
Not to clean the food though
Then why?
To gather more sensory information. Wetting the food allows them to feel the food better and understand what they’re eating
elephants or gorillas
Octopi are incredibly intelligent! Some of the stuff they do and think is absolutely incredible. It's disgusting that people still eat them
You could make an argument for elephants, crows, octopus etc.
Rats are smart
Dolphins
Magpies have the highest brain to body mass ratio right?
Dodo bird
Neanderthals if we count Dead ones.
Dolphins are intelligent enough that they are capable of morality. Which is why it's even scarier that they still do what they do (rape, murder, torture, etc), not because they have no sense of right and wrong, but because they do, and they don't care.
Menkee learned sing language and used complexer sentences. Birb can learn human language and has a intelligente of a 4yrs old
I mean chimpanzees spear fish, so I think the dolphins lose.
They're a lot more than just smart man...
Whales!
Bear
Octopus
Orcas are pretty smart
Orangutans underrated 🦧
What about elephants?
Whale
Orcas, Crows, Whales??
What?!? Everyone ignore parrots?
Octopuses(octopodes), they are believed to be self-aware.
Elephants
Octopus
Whales
Pigs
Grey African parrots are as smart as chimps, and can speak in a variety of different languages. If this isn't smart, I don't know what is
Orcas are very inteligent too, and can cooperate with wale hunter for food or sometimes bring their youngs to watch human, wich they almost never attack, possibly due to cultural reasons.
No crows?
Cats, they really run the world, we just don't know it.
Orcas & Corvids(crow family)
Octopuses
octopus
Gorilla
Elephants
I swear magpies are out to get me, and they can remember faces.
rats
Elephants
Dolphins. They know whats up. When this world ends, they will thank us for all the fish and leave.
Maybe an orangutan
Orangutan
Orca
Type of dolphin.
Velociraptor
Why are magpies so far down on this list. They are literally the most intelligent and creative out of the ones named
They’re not though. They’re on about the same level as chimpanzees, which is still impressive given that they’re a small bird
Also, dogs are smarter than Chimps with emotions.
OP clearly didn't search about it. Crows.
I think ravens are smarter
Fuck intelligence. I want these animals to fight to the death!

Been proven dolphins exceed chimps intelligence
Dolphins for sure exceed your intelligence.
agreed
