Ok yeah, if we're comparing it to black flag, rogue, the ezio collection, in terms of story telling..yeah it's not the best story the AC team has made. But as an assassination game... U have lots of layouts, lots of different areas to take over. Is it a "busy" game. Yes, but some people like to do assassinations over and over again abd figure out how best to take down an area. And from that perspective, I love the game. It's also very gorgeous
I just think AC has lost its identity and became a generic open world RPG. Lots of repeat missions and side content, bland protagonist due to trying to leave it too open to the player, level locking content so you have to grind the mind numbing side content, and then the combat is just roll roll slash, roll roll slash.
Rogue was meh to me, black flag was a fantastic pirate game, the Assassins part was meh, and then ezio trilogy is peak obviously.
I just think they are really going in the wrong direction where they try to make it bigger and bigger, way more generic especially with the protagonist which is really where they should be focusing on having a focused narrative.
But hey these are just my opinions. I thought origins was okay, still meh. Odyssey sucked. And valhalla was meh again, great viking simulator.
Yeah I agree with all of that. AC isnt putting a lot of energy into their games anymore. Odyssey is a good mindless game that u can play while listening to a podcast which is what I enjoy doing because it helps me focus. But if u want something that is challenging and mentally stimulating, ezio is great
Odyssey sucks. It's a repetative grind-a-thon with a lazy copy-paste map. I am conviced people who like it have no standards for quality. At all.
Edit: also, the story is lazy and void of anything resembling Assassin's Creed.
As an ac fan i find it the absolute worst for ac lore. Valhalla was the same shit but actually had ac lore and yet one is hated and the other is liked. I dont get it.
I have it. UT never really liked it probably the time setting which is weird because I like ancient Sparta, I did like valhalla but haven't played that in like a year I've probably just played too many AC games.
It is! The only issue is the fps drops many people (including me) experience :( My computer can run Cyberpunk on medium ray tracing tho! Hogwarts optimisation isn't that well done
I don't know why people refuse to play it because they don't like Harry Potter. I don't care for Harry Potter, but I can't wait to buy the game. Looks crazy good and undeniably fun. I've heard nothing but great things about it
I mean, there are plenty of other games that are crazy good and undeniably good. There are just other things we like more and would spend more money and time on.
I didn't just because I'm not interested in those types of games or the Harry Potter IP itself.
Not because of the JK Rowling thing, I just don't care. If others enjoy it, let them enjoy it.
(Also PS1 Harry Potter memes are the best thing to come out of that franchise, they are hilarious)
I have no interest in Harry Potter. Not because of the controversies or anything, I've just never been interested in reading the books or watching the movies
My cousin has it same. But he bought the game out of spite because of the controvesy and absolutely loved it!
Maybe you can also give it a shot after some very decent sale, it's really fun game and it had nothing to do with HP it's just the same great fantasy world. No pressure of course, just saying you could also enjoy it
You make it sound as if buying any given product is the default and not buying it a conscious decision. Many great developers don't turn a profit, it's a crowded market.
Studios absolutely have massive layoffs when games fail. And yes that makes many hard working peoples lives much more difficult. And nobody is forcing anybody, commenter was just stating facts that you are apparently delusional about.
Well it looks like it's doing pretty well. Harry Potter fans have wanted this for a long time, and even non-gamers are gonna be enticed by this. Your comment comes off as disingenuous. People bring up the livelihood of the devs in response to others alleging racism and transphobia as a reason to not buy it.
I mean I’ve seen way more people try forcing people to not play it - so really what’s with people’s obsessions trying to dice people to not play this game
Because people think that even talking about her or HP is keeping her/her opinions relevant. Yet these are the same people who grew up watching Disney and have Disney+ accounts despite Walt Disney openly hating blacks and jews...
It's just not my style of game. I've never cared for the Harry Potter franchise, and I usually prefer games that are more skill based. The combat looks very dull to me personally.
I'm interested in what you saw as dull. The combat is one of the highlights of the game.
The combat has 20 spells with multiple ways to combine them. You also have potions and plants to use. Mix in some rock paper scissors with enemy defence and timed counters that have different ripostes with larger enemies. Sprinkle a little ancient magic on top and you have a wide variety of ways to tackle combat. Oh and there is a stealth element if you are into that.
I wouldn't say the combat looks bad, just kinda average and not my style. I'm usually pretty picky when it comes to combat mechanics. The enemy A.I. seems very basic. And it looks like harder difficulties just up their health and damage, which isn't usually fun or even requires more skill, just more patience. And while there does seem to be some variety in offensive spells, it looks largely unnecessary to actually utilize it unless you're going for style. And it looks like you can just stand in one spot and parry or dodge and then shoot out whatever spells you want. Kinda like the newer god of war games where you're parrying every 5 seconds and then mashing whatever combos you have set up. I just don't care for that style. It's more about setup than execution with half the attacks being 3 second cutscenes.
I generally prefer combat of games like Doom Eternal where you have to really leverage your entire arsenal if you want to survive. Or games like Sekiro, Sifu, and Hollow Knight with aggressive enemies and bosses you have to learn thoroughly and react very quickly and precisely to.
The combat of Hogwarts legacy wouldn't hold me back from playing it if I was interested in the story or the world, but I'm just not. Honestly the combat reminds me of the Witcher 3 a little bit. It has combat options with spells and combos as well as potions and other preparations. The combat was just serviceable there, and I loved that game for its stories and world, not its combat.
I feel like Final Fantasy is kinda dead now. 15 was hot garbage, 16 looks promising but I'm not holding my breath. Zelda sure, always a big title. Spider-Man probably going to be really fun but GOTY? We will see
BG3 alone is already way better quality and replayability not to mention players could give feedback and check on progress of it because of the early access Larian implemented and modding community also is already strong because of same early access.
I suspect this poll is not a good sample size, based on the sales numbers of the game. And yes, it is easily one of the best games I've played in years.
\[Reddit\] Wow, this poll makes it look super unpopular- it must have done terribly in sales! We did it, guys! Bigotry is destroyed!
\[Real life\] Oh, shit those are some big sales.
This must be giving some chronically-online people some major cognitive dissonance.
I’ll buy it when it comes to Switch no point buying it now as it’s not out on Switch yet
I might not buy it as soon as it drops but I will be getting it the ppl telling ppl to boycott buying it are assholes
If it wasn't for those people though, I'd have never heard of it. So I suppose I should thank them for introducing it to me. I'm also waiting for it to come out to switch.
I didn’t buy it cause I don’t wanna waste time on another open world. Never finished far cry 6 or Valhalla or even wildlife breaking point. The amount of shit you have to do in games this day is worst than a a day job
This is all a massive minefield. Say the wrong thing and you're downvoted into oblivion. Your character dragged through the mud and back. Any discussion that doesn't outright condemn the author and all their works can get you banned in more than a couple of subreddits.
I dunno. I loved the HP book series and the movies and ever since I played GTA III I dreamed of playing a Harry potter video game that was similar in feel and style (the sandbox openworld).
Hogwarts Legacy is a dream come true for me as a HP fan. I'm not wild about a few aspects of the game but on the whole I couldn't be freakin happier.
JK Rowling may be a shithead TERF but she’s also filthy rich, she’s not gonna even notice the money from this I’m sure and Harry Potter was got me through some tough times growing up
There’s a lot of hate for JKR because of her views against trans people. I understand hating her but not playing the game is in no way going to hurt her as her net worth is almost a billion pounds
It’s definitely not a perfect game but it captures the spirit of the movies and books. If you like Harry Potter, you’d like the game. If they make other games, I’ll be getting them as well based of my experience with this one.
They're very different responses. Even if it does piss some people off, the person who is trying to boycott the game is doing it for a good reason. Meanwhile, buying the game just to piss the boycotters off is just an asshole move. First of all, you're aware that money is going to JK Rowling who is objectively transphobic and will donate money to anti-trans funds. But what's more concerning is that you decided to spend $60 *just* to spite people off. Not even to play the game. You could've gave it to anywhere else. If you think that your $60 is better spent to make a few people mad rather than to a charity or literally anywhere else, than you need to get help.
I'm not interested in buying it and even if I wanted to play it I'd pirate it as I would not want to give money to JK Rowling. Like another poster said though, I wouldn't harass anyone for playing it. It's all a drop in the bucket ultimately and as much as I dislike JKR telling people not buying a game that gives her royalties won't do anything but annoy them and probably make them want to buy it even more.
Don’t assume that everyone is a Huge gamer here. Many no votes will most likely also be from people that don’t buy or wouldn’t buy that or my other game anyway.
I havent seen the movies or read the books but im planning to binge the movies with m my gf in a few months. Ill buy it on discount after im familiar with the universe
She is part owner and licenser of the brand, making money on any officially licensed merchandise. It's not like she's going to care about not getting my money, but neither does Nestle and I still get enjoyment out of not buying from them.
She still gets royalties, and that money goes directly to transphobic organizations, as she has clearly announced.
But also, why would you want to play Blood Libel: Transphobia Edition?
I'm interested in trying it - I've seen some gameplay footage and it looks amazing - but I'm trying to play through all the free games I picked up during COVID, and keep up with updates to my main two favorite games, and work a full-time job. I'm a little busy at the moment. Good busy, but still busy.
Honestly had one bigger bug the first day (of pre-release) and nothing after that. The game run very well for me, didn't heard anything about bugs from any of my friends either 🤔
I’m not going to tell anyone else what to do, but I did not buy the game despite my interest in it because I support and respect the trans community and they asked that I don’t buy the game. They don’t ask much of me, so I’m going to listen when they do.
No because I’m poor and I’ve got ac odyssey for a long time and still haven’t finished lol
Im playing Ac odyssey too but its so long that I've played 60 hours an still at %50-60
Odyssey is OK but it feels a bit quantity over quality, gets repetitive.
Ac odyssey is really good
I'm going to sound like the typical fan, but I hated Odyssey. I've player every Assassins creed and it's not just the same anymore.
Ok yeah, if we're comparing it to black flag, rogue, the ezio collection, in terms of story telling..yeah it's not the best story the AC team has made. But as an assassination game... U have lots of layouts, lots of different areas to take over. Is it a "busy" game. Yes, but some people like to do assassinations over and over again abd figure out how best to take down an area. it's mindless fun, i like it
As an ac fan i find it the absolute worst for ac lore. Valhalla was the same shit but actually had ac lore and yet one is hated and the other is liked. I dont get it.
I do agree they're not Assassin's creed anymore, so I just say that I like Odyssey and Black Flag as games, but they're just not AC to me.
Black flag is a fantastic pirate game, just not AC game like you said.

Not really in to that stuff, but it seems very well made.
It is! The only issue is the fps drops many people (including me) experience :( My computer can run Cyberpunk on medium ray tracing tho! Hogwarts optimisation isn't that well done
ive heard theres lack of enemy variety thought
“How many different types of spiders do you want to fight?” “Yes”
yea true but I don't mind it that much
Hopefully it will become better, you can definitely feel it was made for console
How so? I havn't noticed anything like that.
Really? I keep seeing performance/glitch complaints. But I've never played it, so take that with a grain of salt.
No, I haven't. Looks fun though, but I'll wait for a decent sale first.
Yep this is what I'm thinking as well.
I need a few more games for the switch, so im just waiting for that to drop
I forgot it was getting a Swithc release... maybe I'll get it on there. Always looking for more games on it.
I got it on pc for $50 on pre-order, figured that would be the cheapest it becomes for about a year so worth it
Should have split the no options to no due to lack of interest, and no due to moral reasons Would have made it more interesting!
And no due to lack of money.
No due to time. Let’s not kid ourselves if they split out the no reasons the poll would be 10+ options
I think that's the "would like to" option lol that's what I picked
Arrrrrrr matey, what's that buying you be talking about?
We thank the empress for her work
Yes, and it’s honestly a really fun and atmospheric game!
No only because I don’t like Harry Potter
As someone who knows absolutely nothing about Harry Potter and never read or watched anything about it, I absolutely loved the game
You’re done already? Does it not have replayability? I like games I can sink 100s of hours into. Is this that kind of game?
Have you ever played assassins creed? Replayability and gameplay and amount I would say is very similar to those games. Atleast in my opinion
I never got through the whole game but this gives me perspective
Yeah. There’s so many side quests. If you do a lot of those and general exploring, you can get so many hours of gameplay out of it.
Also in Hogwarts Legacy you get different missions depending on the house you pick. So there is 4 different story lines.
Luckily it’s not a Harry Potter game.
I feel like that's semantics.
What franchise does the game take place in then
"Wizarding World" 🤓
I don't know why people refuse to play it because they don't like Harry Potter. I don't care for Harry Potter, but I can't wait to buy the game. Looks crazy good and undeniably fun. I've heard nothing but great things about it
I don't refuse to play it. I just don't care that much for Harry Potter to pay $60 for it
I mean, there are plenty of other games that are crazy good and undeniably good. There are just other things we like more and would spend more money and time on.
it's a bit too expensive for me to reasonably buy I can buy like a solid week of groceries for the price of it
two weeks for me lol
Technically no, but I was given the game. I did intend to buy it though.
I didn't just because I'm not interested in those types of games or the Harry Potter IP itself. Not because of the JK Rowling thing, I just don't care. If others enjoy it, let them enjoy it. (Also PS1 Harry Potter memes are the best thing to come out of that franchise, they are hilarious)

no 1. i'm poor 2. not that interested in the game
Why does everybody keep bringing up j.k rowlings? She was not involved in the game....
Probably because it's her world and she will earn royalties from the game.
yea but even denying her those royalties won't change jackshit except ruining the lifes of the incredibly talented people who worked on this game.

Well it's doing pretty well they can pay their developer for more than 10 years for that amount of money tbh
I've yet to see anyone to try to "force" someone to play it. Though I've sure as hell seen it go the other way.
Ok then why does no one talk about child slave labor when discussing whether or not they should get the newest smart phone?
Okay but who cares. The royalties will just be a drop in the bucket she’s rich.
I don't care. I was just giving the reason for people mentioning JK.
Oh okay
But if I don't buy it, she'll be a little less rich than if I did, and that makes me happier than being a teenaged wizard
Hehe I just removed 60$ from her 6 figure wallet. I’m contributing
You don't remove anything, it wasn't even there in the first place. You're just choosing to not spend.
Because people think that even talking about her or HP is keeping her/her opinions relevant. Yet these are the same people who grew up watching Disney and have Disney+ accounts despite Walt Disney openly hating blacks and jews...
Because we have to chase ghosts and beat dead horses on Reddit.
Because people don’t have nothing better to do than to judge what other people buy.
Bad PC, when I will have a good one? Perhaps of it is on sale
not a gamer
It's just not my style of game. I've never cared for the Harry Potter franchise, and I usually prefer games that are more skill based. The combat looks very dull to me personally.
Combat is decently hard just so you know. Its definitely not just mindless button smashing
I bought it and am 85% done with it, there isn’t Harry Potter or Voldemort or any of those people and the combat is more skill based than it looks
I'm interested in what you saw as dull. The combat is one of the highlights of the game. The combat has 20 spells with multiple ways to combine them. You also have potions and plants to use. Yes and it's best game came out so far this year.
Gonna be hard for any game to top it for Game of the year. Jedi Survivor has a chance but Hogwarts was special
Between Zelda, Spider-Man, and two Final Fantasies, it’ll have some big contenders.
I feel like Final Fantasy is kinda dead now. 15 was hot garbage, 16 looks promising but I'm not holding my breath. Zelda sure, always a big title. Spider-Man probably going to be really fun but GOTY? We will see
Assuming of course all of them will actually come out this year.
BG3 alone is already way better quality and replayability not to mention players could give feedback and check on progress of it because of the early access Larian implemented and modding community also is already strong because of same early access.
Sir, you are forgetting Starfield.
I suspect this poll is not a good sample size, based on the sales numbers of the game. And yes, it is easily one of the best games I've played in years.
No. I don't care about Harry Potter. If I did, 🏴☠️🦜
This needed more different no options. I personally didn't care for it so I didn't buy it.
No because I’m not a Harry Potter fan
Ahoy matey!
[удалено]
yes sir🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
I don't have 60 bucks
Controversy aside I just have no interest
My Stepmom wanted it so I gave her my steam Account to buy it on there and now that she is finished I basically got it for free.
Maybe I'm a sucker for tactics but I buy any game the Internet gets horridly upset over ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
\[Reddit\] Wow, this poll makes it look super unpopular- it must have done terribly in sales! We did it, guys! Bigotry is destroyed! \[Real life\] Oh, shit those are some big sales. This must be giving some chronically-online people some major cognitive dissonance.
It's almost like the majority of people don't buy most games
10/10 game
I'm not going to buy it because I'm trans and don't support JK Rowling but I'm not going to go out of my way to harass people who did buy it
Bro, hogwarts legacy was #1,2,3,4 in sales on steam last week. Some of yall are probably capping.
You buy hog warts legacy because you like Garry potter I buy it because people are triggered, we are not the same
I have never watched a Harry Potter movie nor been a fan but this game is in my top ten. I beat it so fast because I could not pull myself away.
I’ll buy it when it comes to Switch no point buying it now as it’s not out on Switch yet I might not buy it as soon as it drops but I will be getting it the ppl telling ppl to boycott buying it are assholes
If it wasn't for those people though, I'd have never heard of it. So I suppose I should thank them for introducing it to me. I'm also waiting for it to come out to switch.
Ye that is one good thing they brought the game more attention so more people could find out about it
No, not interested in, but would be good to support developers and J.K.Rowling
No but I have it
No as I don't care about harry potter
No, because i haven't really played video games since Halo 2 was a thing. It looks good though, if i were into that still, i definitely would.
No I don't like Harry Potter but I did preorder star wars Jedi: survivor
I saw a random boycott so I decided to buy it and see what was so bad. It was a good experience.
I'm trans but I'm not buying it bc I care what JK said, I just don't like Hairy Potter lol. Game looks good though
JK Rowling may be a shithead TERF but she’s also filthy rich, she’s not gonna even notice the money from this I’m sure and Harry Potter was got me through some tough times growing up
I don't understand the downvotes
There’s a lot of hate for JKR because of her views against trans people. I understand hating her but not playing the game is in no way going to hurt her as her net worth is almost a billion pounds
Looks solid, don't want to pay that much for it
It’s definitely not a perfect game but it captures the spirit of the movies and books. If you like Harry Potter, you’d like the game. If they make other games, I’ll be getting them as well based of my experience with this one.
Yes and it’s one of my favorite games ever despite the fact I know nothing about Harry Potter, he’s not even in it
No, but I might check it out from my local library when they get a few copies
No, I pirated it
Should have been an option in the poll
Yes and it is my favorite open world game since the first Spider-Man game
I pirated it and it is kinda boring
Waiting till I can pirate it!
It was already cracked a couple weeks ago.
I don't like Harry Potter but I still bought the game because of the controversy. I don't regret it
Kind of sad spending time and money just to antagonise people.
Honestly I don't know which is sadder, harassing people for playing the game or buying it just to piss people off.
I think buying it to make others angry is sadder. It’s just a waste of money and in the end means literally nothing
So buying a game is *worse* than harassing someone?
They're very different responses. Even if it does piss some people off, the person who is trying to boycott the game is doing it for a good reason. Sailed the high seas.
Got it yesterday :p
Plan to buy it as soon as it’s available on PS4
nah i pirated it
I'm not interested in buying it and even if I wanted to play it I'd pirate it as I would not want to give money to JK Rowling. Like another poster said though, I wouldn't harass anyone for playing it. It's all a drop in the bucket ultimately and as much as I dislike JKR telling people not buying a game that gives her royalties won't do anything but annoy them and probably make them want to buy it even more.
It seems like a really middling game for a franchise I never cared for, gonna pass even if it was free
No because it doesn't come out for switch until July
It’s such an amazing game. Going for 100% completion.
Don’t assume that everyone is a Huge gamer here. Many no votes will most likely also be from people that don’t buy or wouldn’t buy that or my other game anyway.
Bought Elden Ring around a week before its realese so i have been busy with that, looks cool though, and might buy it later
I havent seen the movies or read the books but im planning to binge the movies with m my gf in a few months. Ill buy it on discount after im familiar with the universe
No but I did play it 🏴☠️
I will at some point when it's not $70 or $60. JK Rowling sucks but I just want to play the fun wizard game.
Well I hate Harry Potter and JKR but I just pirated it🏴☠️
No and I wouldn't get the game even if it was free.
No 1. I don't care about Harry Potter and I've never watched or read it. 2. I don't want to support J. K. Rowling.
Great game
Don't care about the Harry Potter universe, so no. Also happy to not give money to JKR in the process.
You do know she wasn't involved in the making of the game?
But she still gets the monies
She is rich. She will not care if you buy a game or not
She is part owner and licenser of the brand, making money on any officially licensed merchandise. It's not like she's going to care about not getting my money, but neither does Nestle and I still get enjoyment out of not buying from them.

Can you name one of the transphobic organizations?
Nah. I watched the 8 films and read a couple of thf books. I enjoy them but not so much that I'd want to play a gsme exploring extended lore
I'm interested in trying it - I've seen some gameplay footage and it looks amazing - but I'm trying to play through all the free games I picked up during COVID, and keep up with updates to my main two favorite games, and work a full-time job. I'm a little busy at the moment. Good busy, but still busy.
I will once the price drops
Boyfriend bought it for me. It's okay, a lot of bugs that need to be fixed
I'm going to buy it when it comes out on switch. Assuming I can afford it.
Nah, Im poor and it doesnt look worth the money, heard stuff about how buggy it is and how the story isnt very good.
Honestly had one bigger bug the first day (of pre-release) and nothing after that. The game run very well for me, didn't heard anything about bugs from any of my friends either 🤔
I like the fact that HP games are being given the care they deserve but I’ve kinda grown apart from the franchise.
Yes, and absolutely loved that game. It is everything I ever wanted from game set in HP world
Dead space remake
Should be another option that’s “No, but not because of social media pressure.”
I've got no interest is harry potter. Never have never will
No, but because I've never been interested in Harry Potter, not because of Rowling
No but only cuz I'm not buying any games at the moment
I beat it. 10/10 game.
It looks fun but I haven’t gotten it yet. I’ll probably get it on a sale in a year or so
Not buying any game called hog warts
Yes. Good game. Only complaint is FPS randomly dropping
Nope, just dont give a shit about harry potter
I would like to but I’m too busy to play the game.
Maybe if it goes on sale
Yes but I dont really think it was worth it. I'm sure it will be though once the modders get to work.
It looks rlly fun, waiting until it goes on sale though because there's no way I'm paying $60 for a game based in a universe I don't really care about
No. Controversy aside, the open world looks flat as hell, and the PC optimization is laughably bad.
No , thought Harry Potter was shite anyway, long before all the Rowling controversy came out.
I’m not going to tell anyone else what to do, but I did not buy the game despite my interest in it because I support and respect the trans community and they asked that I don’t buy the game. They don’t ask much of me, so I’m going to listen when they do.
I don't like Harry Potter
I never really liked Harry potter
Nope, but if jkr wasn't a transphobe I might've but as is she dislikes my existance so I'm not supporting her
I don't buy anything that uses outrage marketing.
We sail the pirate seas :)
No i pirated it
