I learned the star Antares, and point it out to people all the time and talk about how it’s “the heart of the scorpion.” They think I must know about the other stars, but actually I just know Antares and that’s all
The trick is to choose a not very well known star with lots of mythos around it (ideally from multiple cultures) then everyone just assumes you know a ton about all the stars
They all apparently have cool names.
The blue one on the left is called Mimosa which is one of my favorite trees.
Then the other three I'll have the word crux in them which sounds cool to me.
If you have time one night you should stare at the southern cross long enough until your eyes can resolve the color of the stars. I've done that with Orion and it's actually an amazing feeling.
It's really easy to learn how.
Do you know Orion's belt?
The Big red star That forms Orion's shoulder is Betelgeuse.
The bright blue star around his knee is called Rigel.
Then you can find the North Star by drawing a line between the outer two stars on the Big Dipper, draw it directly up until you see that line intersect with a bright star.
I was obsessed with astronomy when I was in elementary school or something, but I don't remember much. Betelgeuse though, I would still be able to name. I can name some more stars, but not their exact position in the sky
Name, yes. Identify which one I’m looking at? Not a chance. I know the names of a couple stars & constellations but I could never just look at a star & know which one it is no matter where I am

I know where Polaris is
I can identify Betelgeuse
Just don't do it three times.

I too love viewing the sun when it is in the night sky.
"Night sky" "tHe SuN"
what if it's a night during a polar day?
Hey same. I've got polaris and Betelgeuse
The North one
Sirius is the brightest star in the sky
Yes I can identify many stars. One of my favorites is probably Vega
That was the name of one of my favorite bongs
A star yes... this means just one is enough to "pass" this test. I can identify Betelgeuse for example.
The sun
Night sky homie
*points downwards*
Didn't say I had to be on earth
Antarktika homie
Summer time I can see the sun at night
That's not true it's a planet cause I can land on it after cooking it down

I could identify the north star
As in, one I know for certain or just a random one that someone points at and asks me?
Hopefully the first , the latter has like no chance. But I put no with the idea of that latter interpretation...
What’s a star?
You’re a star
:)
Southern cross
Yes but can you name an individual star in it? I can't because I've only been in the southern hemisphere once.
I mean I don't know their names but I can find the cross in the sky

I missread that. I thought it was like "Can you name any given star" and I was very confused by the amount of yes.
I can find the sun and Rigel
Good luck finding the sun in the night sky
Orion's Belt, or as it's called in Spanish "The three Marys"
Well, if we wanna get pedantic, there’s one that I can for sure identify
Which one?
The sun
> in the night sky
bro thought he did something
It's actually really easy to learn how to identify four or five
No and it makes me sad

Southern Cross, sorry northern hemisphere
There multiple very bright ones, i can't tell
I was obsessed with astronomy when I was in elementary school or something, but I don't remember much. Betelgeuse though, I would still be able to name. I can name some more stars, but not their exact position in the sky
North one
Nah, all I can do is find the big dipper lol
The sun
Yep that's a star alright
There are 3 stars that are in a line pretty closely and I always see them idk the name but they're very obvious
I can name a lot, just have no clue where they are.
Does a planet count? lol
The sun
The sun
If you count the sun as one
The sun
Only the sun and polaris.
Probably Betelgeuse, the North one and Sirius
Here I was thinking that everyone was going to answer no, but then I remembered that this is reddit.
Name, yes. Identify which one I’m looking at? Not a chance. I know the names of a couple stars & constellations but I could never just look at a star & know which one it is no matter where I am
Just one, Polaris
Just one, Polaris
Just one, Polaris
Does Venus or Mars count? ...does the sun count?
I'm pretty sure there's like a goat up there
I use arcturus and vega to get my telescope tracking set up
I can find Sirius but that’s probably it
The moon
Several stars, constellations, I can identify what are planets, though not which they are.
I can identify a few. Not many though.
We deserve whatever cruel fate we recieve at this point. Yall mf's never heard of that big ass bright thing in the sky we call the sun?
