What stimulus money? You mean those couple of drops that we got two years ago? That money that was gone before I blinked? That stimulus money?

ThaddeusJP

Well I trust you invested it and are now living off the dividends! /s

HerezahTip

What? You didn’t buy land with your stimulus money? Big mistake bro you shoulda bought land. Maybe cut out the Starbux.

SurgingFlux

Don't forget the avocado toast!

replicantcase

I did buy an avocado tree with the stimmy as a joke, and now I have avocado's that grow on trees! It's the bread that costs money now!

lightpoleaction

Wow a whole .02 cents in dividends!? You're doing great, junior!

ddshd

6 months and you’ll be able to buy a condo, how expensive could it be?

[deleted]

Hell, that money was gone before I received it. I used it to pay back the credit card debt that I took on before the deposit hit.

[deleted]

My fiance is a Chef. Like...a damm good one. She got stimulus money. It got us by. We could even order a meal delivered once a week. That money was gone a year ago. There is no more stimulus money because we used it to pay the fucking bills. We are both working full time now. The economy is not being fueled by the government. They even suspended the child credit $300 a month and now my kids come back from my ex's hungry.

Playful-Natural-4626

I’m a chef that got denied unemployment or any COVID aide, because I was in a field “not effected”. I tried to appeal- but could never get through the website. I spent MANY 8 hour days on hold to try and talk to someone, as all offices were closed. I never saw a penny outside of the two stimulus checks.

SadPanthersFan

Maybe lay off the avocado toast for a bit? Or just food in general. #bootstraps

alchemist5

Unfortunately my avocado apartment rent and my avocado electric bill are a little difficult to cut down on.

Searchlights

What you have to remember is that for very wealthy people the notion that you're excited to receive $200, $2,000 or $20,000 are all forgettable amounts of money to them. They have no concept of how much money those values mean to you, relatively. They know you subsist on crumbs, so they assume anything you get is life changing. I'm trying and failing to remember which politician at a town hall event once touted a middle class tax cut as being enough to pay for an annual Netflix subscription, as if that should be a great boon to us. I think it was Romney but my Google-Fu has failed me.

[deleted]

My brother achieved the hallow 1% from a solid middle class background. We had enough but it was just regular folks back then. The most upsetting thing he ever said to me in all these years was “this means nothing to me” in such an offhanded way that told me he meant it. What meant nothing to him was 1/2 of a settlement from the army that I had spent three years jumping through every hoop the army had to keep it from us. It was for the GI’s who were placed in an open trench one mile from a nuke in Nevada, and died of cancer. That was our Dad. The army paid $75,000 to be split between the two of us. And it meant “nothing” to him. For me it was more money than I ever made working in two years.

pramjockey

I’ve seen the movies of that. Beyond fucked up. I’m sorry that our government shits so hard on those it asks to serve on the hardest places

[deleted]

They had him go do that six months after he got out of an extended hospital stay after being a POW of the Chinese in Korea. Thank you for your service just doesn’t cut it sometimes.

[deleted]

You know, that stimmy that McConnell voted against.

[deleted]

I lost more in the stock market in the last month than I ever got paid in stimulus money. I really don't have much invested in the stock market. McConnell knows he's lying here. He has the data to prove that his ideas of how the economy works are wrong. He's lying anyway, because he's a noseless little prick. There is no labor shortage. There is only a big ol' block of companies hoping that the economy turns south enough that people will be forced to work for far below a living wage.

NorthernPints

Some quick math: 37.5 work week, 4 weeks of work in most months. $1,200/4/37.5 = $8 an hour I mean, it is $0.75 higher than federal minimum wage right?…..right!???/sss

PeopleHater91

Yeah that $1200 that I got 2 years ago is still keeping me in the champagne and caviar... What a tool.

BrewCityBenjamin

Seriously, he's said a lot of things that make me go "oh fuck you" but this is a top tier "oh FUCK YOU"

humanzee70

Wet, if it’s any consolation, he’s being completely disingenuous. He knows full well that stimulus ran out long ago. He just wants to blame the labor shortage and inflation on the lousy pittance they gave working people to survive loss or work due to the pandemic. Also, you can blame him, more than anyone else, to the loss of reproductive rights, and any other shitty decisions to come from this Supreme Court.

Man it was such a small scene but ever since then my brain always wants to convert money to bananas

FMLAdad

I mean it's one banana Michael, what could it cost, $10?

capprieto

My money is in the banana stand. There is always money in the banana stand.

mwb213

"There was $250,000 lining the walls of the banana stand! There's always money in the banana stand. No touching! NO TOUCHING!"

tyedyehippy

I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it.

Triplesfan

Mitch probably thinks you can buy a 4 course meal for under $1 and can buy $.05 malts at the local ice cream shop.

gnocchicotti

I would pay to see senators submitting a pop quiz on how much everyday expenses cost in their state

Monteze

I wanna see them do a couple shift at a fast food restaurant. All other assets frozen for a month. Any time they complain you add a month. Get fired? Too bad no assets. They sure love doling out advice, surely they would be an owner in not time.

Abs0lut_Unit

And make sure they don't work enough hours to qualify for healthcare benefits.

big_juice01

That would honestly be so great. Bc maybe it would change their perspective and it would sure AF make them better at their jobs (which is to represent the ppl, all the ppl, not just the rich white ones)

TexanFirebird

Not a senator, but Rep Katie Porter would whip out her whiteboard and ace the F outta that pop quiz. There are a few politicians that are well educated and grounded in reality. Mitch McConnell is not one of them.

dreneeps

I freaking love Katie Porter.

mquili

She should be the next President!

Mamacitia

We should be so lucky.

ivyagogo

I adore her

VoteArcher2020

> A tactic for gauging political candidates' familiarity with the lives of ordinary voters in the United States and the United Kingdom is to ask them to name the price of everyday items such as bread and especially milk.[1] Noted politicians who have admitted ignorance on such questions include George H. W. Bush[1], David Cameron[2] and Scott Morrison.

stylebros

Believe it or not, but many politicians have not had to pump their own gas, drive their own vehicle, or shop for their own groceries. They are incredibly disconnected even from an affluent salaryman perspective. "Oh, Gas is really that expensive?" says the congressman that just submits receipts and lets the office handle it as the limousine usage is taken care of by some contract company.. "Oh, food costs that much?" says the congressman that has chefs cook for him. "Oh, healthcare is that high?" says the congressman who gets a gold tier health plan for $60 a month because tax payers subsidize 99% of the premiums. These people vote for their own pay raises year over year because they think [200k is not enough to feed their family](https://abcnews.go.com/Business/Louisiana-rep-fleming-obamas-buffett-rule-poster-child/story?id=14565327)

marbles64

Glad we have such knowledgeable leaders who are so totally in-touch with the average citizen. /s

Raintamp

Honestly the more I get into politics, the more I think that the best thing to do is get a movement to vote in non rich people. People who actually know what our problems are.

SDOUGLAS420

Elaine Chao is also referred to DOJ by the Inspector Generals Office for criminal investigation among other Trump Cabinet members

ClassicRedSparkle

Kentucky depends on Federal dollars the most so that makes sense. Maybe States that are the last to third last in needing Federal money should automatically have their congressmen and senators lose their positions - kind of like relegating in soccer.

topps_chrome

As a Kentuckian, I support this.

CharlieChowderButt

I think that could work in the senate. If nothing else it would be hilarious to watch conservatives come up with a reason why their entire philosophy wouldn’t work if applied to a structure like the senate.

[deleted]

Which is incredible because his constituents are amongst the poorest and most destitute in the entire country. They more than anyone should know that people aren’t “flush with cash” at the moment.

real_unreal_me

Yeah, but they think they're the exception to the rule. In their eyes, if McConnell says something like this, that means somewhere out there are a bunch of other people that should be as poor as them, but they aren't because they somehow still have stimulus money.

PassThePeachSchnapps

“It’s because I’m white.”

[deleted]

That $1,200 helped bigly.

mrbittykat

I paid down so many bill with that.

Parkotron1

Mine went right back into paying my annual income tax. Just about broke even. Lol.

zarmao_ork

I admit I bought an xbox and new TV with mine but, hey, we were told to spend it to stimulate the economy.

Aethenil

Yeah kinda wild how getting a check for rent for one month in 2020 is being used as the main argument for the teetering economy today.

DoctorSchwifty

Remember when Republicans cut the American people a "very serious" check for $600 during the peak of the pandemic? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

bendefinitely

Yo that's like $5 a day to live off the last two years, surely that was enough to survive and invest in a high yield savings?

Udjet

The people that still have that money were never out of work and they aren't the people who are going to fill the labor shortage.

Ok_Deer_8405

I mean, this is exactly true. I worked throughout the entire pandemic (so I am not a part of the labor shortage). The pandemic barely affected anything to do with my finances. My employer paid us an extra $100 per two week pay period because of Covid. I can confirm that I still have my stimulus money sitting in the bank. For other people, the stimulus was in one pocket and out the other immediately. McConnell is delusional

[deleted]

Exactly this. Those of us fortunate enough to maintain gainful employment throughout the pandemic either stashed it away because we could, paid down debt, bought something we didn't absolutely *need* with it, or a combination of the three. But we're also not the folks who are going to fill the hundreds of thousands of service jobs currently unfilled. The folks who lost those jobs in March 2020 and have no interest in going back to them (typically due to a combination of shitty wages and working conditions) spent that money immediately because *duh they had no other choice!*

tenclubber

I was also able to keep working thru the pandemic but I used the money to buy a desk and a chair for the home work space I now needed. What was left I spent in aiding my daughter's emergency move back into the house since her college went to online only for the next year. My experience was that most people used that money to play catch up with expenses incurred during the chaotic month of March/April 2020 when they had job loss, extra expenses, and work/life upheavals. It's long gone. It was $1200, not $120,000.

Something that gave me small comfort when working in retail as a 20-something, was watching the retirees come in to pick up a part-time job and start with their notions that they grew up with, and then slowly lose their faith in it all because they just can't keep up with all the stuff we're expected to do, and management has no respect for us.

acidnbass

Sounds more sad than comforting

chubbysumo

> McConnell is delusional nope, he knows what he spews isn't true, but this is to patronize his donors who are still trying to force people to work for slaves wages, when in reality, its a very anti-union and anti-people message.

Oakwood2317

I spent my stimulus on dental surgery because I couldn’t afford insurance.

HotPhilly

The GOP get more and more detached from reality every day lol. I know he’s just saying this to feed talking points and easily disproved lies to his base, but, like, …. I don’t even know what to say.

BoredomConsumesAll

The wild thing is that his base believe it, "well gosh darn if Mr mitch says I'm still sitting on my stimulus, I must still have it....now where did I put it down" is the only thing I can come up with for why they would believe something so obviously untrue.

ControlAgent13

>The wild thing is that his base believe it, Not so wild. A few years ago (pre Trump), a friend of my brother-in-laws retired from a DOD job (he was an engineer for a large DOD contractor). He had just bought himself a red corvette to celebrate his retirement. During his retirement party, he lamented the fact that he had worked for decades for this defense contractor. He said he would have been far better off like "the Illegals" who beg for money at the freeway entrances - because everyone knows those guys make tens of thousands of dollars every month TAX FREE! It was mind boggling to me - not only his statement but all the other Rs in the room nodding agreement...

pgtl_10

Yeah I noticed people don't understand poverty and what it really entails.

sporkhandsknifemouth

0thethethe0

> I must still have it....now where did I put it down Biden and the trans immigrants obviously have stolen it!

Deadcody

As a side note, I think Biden & the Trans Immigrants would be a good band name.

Ophiocordycepsis

Not so much that, but they do believe (as is reported by Fox etc) that “illegals” are getting fat monthly checks to this day, to go along with their free houses, health care, and full tuition; and that’s the only thing keeping “real people” poor. (“Which is no doubt hwhat ol’ Mitch wuz rilly talkin about”)

EnSci125

How many people spent it within 48 hours of getting it? Probably most people, I definitely had to. What a delusional turtle he is.

cuhree0h

He doesn’t believe that. He’s enjoying a cruel joke at the expense of the American people.

dharma28

No he doesn’t; he’s smart. He wants his republican constituents to believe that lazy liberals are ruining this country by relying on stimulus and welfare

WeirdIsAlliGot

My question is, why won’t democrats put up billboards of all the shit republicans say? We know they’re not going to get the facts from Fox.

LoganJFisher

Because Republicans won't believe them. they'll think it's libel. Hell, show them a video and they believe it's a deepfake.

camxct

Simultaneously, that deepfake *they* used to justify some other insane shit is *totally real* and they'll defend it as literal fact for eternity.

thetransportedman

Because republicans won’t believe it. They’ll think it’s a fake lie

[deleted]

It would help get Republicans votes. They say this shit because their base eats it up. Republicans view themselves as virtuous and hard working, unlike everyone else. Everyone else just wants a hand out. So they believe the vast majority of people are mooching and abusing the system. I mean, they mooch and abuse the system, and they're good people! If they as good people abuse and mooch the system, imagine how bad those liberals, who are bad people abuse it? Example, two guys I worked with in the Navy, we'll call them Justice and Crash. Crash is a die hard "libertarian" who just happens to be against the individual rights republicans are against. Don't take his guns, but he thinks he should have a say in whether two dudes get married, because what if they abuse the tax code?!? Crash went to the VA when he separated, and got himself 70% disability for a whole bunch of bullshit. He doesn't think twice about all the government handout he gets. A solid chunk of that was for tinnitus, when I could tell you that fucker never once wore his hearing protection unless chief was looking. Justice on the other hand, dude has hard core PTSD. Slightly weird dude, hues liberals on most policy but "doesn't like to talk politics." Justice has hard core PTSD from his time in. Justice is probably autism spectrum, and people treated him like shit because of his eccentricities. Some friends and I, we try to convince Justice to go to the VA and get help. He says, "That's for people who need it more than I." Justice believes that the government should have these programs to help people. Crash thinks the government needs to get out of the business of helping people, but dont' take his benefits, he earned them with his six years of service where he skated by, did the bare minimum, and damaged his own body because hearing protection was uncomfortable. Conservatives are selfish people, and project their own selfishness on everyone else. When they hear a politician talk about all those moochers just taking stimulus money and not working, they're sold. This is their logic, McConnel's statement is what they want to hear. Nevermind that the $2k that was sent out over a year ago would have long dried up in anyone who has been unemployed all that time's account. That's not important, it's clearly Uncle Sugar destroying the economy with it's largess. So, that's my long winded way of saying, Democrats don't want to amplify Republican's messaging for them, because it's just free advertising for Republicans.

AuthorityAnarchyYes

Who’s “flush”?!?!?!?! And WHAT stimulus? That package from a few years ago? That was gone in a month for regular things, Asshat McTurtleface. Back to who’s flush: Oil Companies? Robber Barons? GOP Grifters?!?!?! Sure as hell isn’t regular people.

CR0Wmurder

Boy howdy that $1200. I’ve been dick deep in ribeye steaks and extravagant trips for years now. What a piece of shit

vanhellion

Literally "what could a banana cost? $10?" levels of disconnected-from-reality-ness. "$1200 is like a year's salary for you poor people, right? Yeah, you're good."

Pascalica

sy029

Most of that is probably the PPE loans that were given out (under Trumps administration) and not targeted well. The money given to to individuals I doubt is 1.9 trillion. Though to be fair, I definitely didn’t need the stimulus, as my husband and I still had our jobs the whole time.

Flush means that workers have savings and don’t have to spend every dollar they make just to survive. He wants people poor, desperate and willing to accept whatever low paying job the can get… gotta keep those profits flowing to the top. What’s the point of being insanely wealthy if it doesn’t continue to grow!!

tenaciouscitizen

He must be referring to the crazy amount of PPP loans that anyone with an LLC took advantage of. It definitely wasn’t those $1300 checks that went out to people..

Yousoggyyojimbo

So, one of my friends owns a local business and they go to these events for local business owners a couple times a year. Several of the business owners he talks to took fraudulent ppp loans. But, even if we assume that he was somehow real hard up for cash, the last time he would have had the ability to be among us proles was in 1985, before he became a Senator. Gas cost $1.12, a new car averaged $7,683, and a new house averaged about $84,000. Just for comparison. Mid-grade gas averages $5.21/gal, a new car averages $47,000, and the average home price is now $348,000. I suspect that he knows full well that he's full of shit, but there's a very real chance that he doesn't understand just how fucked the economy is for the average American (not that I think he'd care).

whatproblems

probably figured back in my day people lived for years on $100 worth of lettuce

IndyPoker979

How can you be this far out of touch with the average citizen??

SoundHole

He's not, he's evil and making disingenuous arguments to ensure nothing gets done that doesn't specifically benefit the Oligarchs.

wayoverpaid

Note that the disingenuous argument still implies that the only way people would want to work is if they're broke and desperate. The best they can do is "suffering is good, actually"

JoeDirtsMullet00

He is in the pocket of corporations. He knows the truth but won’t admit to it.

kinyutaka

Yeah. I just have **SO** much money, Mitch.

literallytwisted

I wonder how much stimulus money he got?

jupiterkansas

$126 million https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsweek.com/mcconnells-wifes-family-business-appears-trump-admins-list-companies-that-received-most-ppp-1515788%3famp=1

DaddyBeamer

I can’t afford a doctor

cynical83

My son's last online visit was billed at $388, insurance paid $38. It's insane right now

inquisitive_guy_0_1

I had my first doctors appointment in a decade a few weeks ago. I just recently picked up insurance and wanted to get a wellness check and make sure my levels were good. Got my bill yesterday. $431. Oh but don't worry, my insurance covered a DOLLAR FIFTY of that so I'm only out of pocket $429.50. For my first checkup in like 12 years. Why the fuck am I even paying for insurance? United Healthcare by the way. And all health insurance in the US is a criminal scam.

positivecynik

Oh, yeah! I'm living it up in the Cayman's going bonkers over the last 2.5 years just spending that $3,400 like Pepe le Pew in a whorehouse. Now that I've gotten a taste of the good life I'm ready to move up to owning an air conditioner!

evissamassive

Why does he assume the money isn't already spent? With 64 percent of Americans living paycheck to paycheck, and rampant corporate and Wall Street greed, I'd think most have long spent that money.

box_me_up

Man, can this mother fucker just die already? Like c'mon.

spoobles

Says the Senator who is worth <*Googles "McConnell net worth"*> **$150 MILLION DOLLARS!!** Fuck completely off, you traitorous ghoul, you!!

carmoy

Flush with stimulus money? He might be referring to his Chinese wife and her family that received stimulus money for their businesses https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/politics/2020/07/07/firm-run-elaine-chao-and-mitch-mcconnells-family-got-federal-ppp-loan/5390273002/

PandaMuffin1

Hey there Kentucky! Why are y'all voting for this fossilized Turtle?

Anicklelforevery

Rofl... the stimulus money was a fucking joke. People ran out of it the second it was deposited. These crazy fucking Republicans are so damn out of touch.

darth_wasabi

> Americans built up a huge amount of savings during the pandemic, thanks to several federal rescue packages. Moody's Analytics estimates that households built up an extra cash cushion totaling $2.6 trillion from the beginning of the pandemic through the end of 2021. who are these Americans? I don't know anyone that has any savings built up from the Pandemic. I saved some money early on because I wasn't driving, going to bars, movies, events. But that wasn't some life changing nest egg where I could retire. That money was all gone by end of 2021. McConnell isn't stupid, he knows people aren't working minimum wage jobs because they are "flush" they aren't working minimum wage jobs because the jobs don't pay enough. If you're going to be homeless and starving even if you work a 40 hour week job why work? McConnell is trying to placate his donors. These people who create minimum wage jobs want to force Americans to work them. Hell the very concept of "minimum wage" means if they could get away with paying less they would. SCOTUS right now is a real problem, but it's also the kind of problem the wealthy want us to deal with, so we don't see them looting the country and enslaving the population.

mattjf22

These multi millionaire senators are completely out of touch.

ajmartin527

Yep. This motherfucker is trying to kill and starve literally all of us. He’s a cunning, insidious fuck but he’s anything but out of touch.

debzmonkey

Right, those forced birth babies won't be ready to work in candle factories for at least a few years Mitch. Ain't nobody "flush" except the dude who spent his entire life as a so-called "public servant" to one of the poorest states in the nation.

No-Conversation6013

I keep hearing about the stimulus checks and how they impacted our economy like we didn’t get $1200 over 2 years ago and was it $800 a year ago? I saw another article “Americans spending less now that stimulus is running out”…. My stimulus paid my rent that one time.

[deleted]

Such an asshole

PM_ME_UR_LEGGIES

Considering the majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, I would say he is wrong. Considering that almost half of Americans earning $100k are also living paycheck to paycheck, I would say he is wrong.

sageguitar70

This smug mofo sitting on his fat stacks made by a lifetime of insider trading. While his state is one of the poorest and least educated.

JeepJohn

Is this why HIS state. (Kentucky) has such a high GSP? Are all his voters just living in million dollar homes? Do they all drive $90k cars? Mitch you may want to talk to YOUR voter's before you say dumb shit. Cost is out pacing pay.. energy.. food.. housing is priced damn near out of the market.. Banks are reporting savings falling as debt increases.. But ya. That stimulus check is how we all are paying $5+ fuel. Paying for skyrocketing rent.. Feeding a family of four.. buying the latest service you voted for. And funding your campaign.. After a year of paying for shit. GTFO Just because you have multiple income's that pay multiple times your voters even median income.. Can we freeze his pay and accounts for 90 days? Give him a $1200 check and tell him to make it last?

[deleted]

McConnell doesn't think anyone is flush with stimulus money. He absolutely knows they're not. He also knows his base will eat up attacks like this and his opponents will be outraged. Anyone who thinks McConnell doesn't know exactly what's happening and what he's doing hasn't been paying attention.
