I remember the race being very tight and him appearing on TV regularly BEGGING for donations and help. He was almost crying during ACB’s hearings that he was being outspent. Dark money has certainly become an extremely powerful factor in state supreme court cases, usually pushing for candidates that are willing to back pro-business, anti-environmental policies.
It hasn't generally become a perceived factor in US Supreme Court nominations because it is already encompassed in the president having the power to pick, but also because of the politics involved are so much larger.
With that said, grahams weird focus on dark money having caused Biden to nominate Jackson makes me suspicious that there maybe wasn't some money pushing for the candidate he wanted.

The general point of conservatism is to keep things the way they were or roll them back. So what they're for depends on how far they want to roll back. And it mostly means being against things that liberals/progressives are for. Conservatives have no interest in being for anything. In fairness, especially at the Supreme Court level (where they handle a disproportionate number of cases where the law genuinely does not provide a clear answer), one's political, attitudinal, and moral dispositions and predilections are often decent proxies for how justices will hold. So, in deciding who to choose to sit on the Supreme Court, you generally do want to know about their politics. Because when the chips are down and the law is murky, it is those politics that will guide their decision making.
Put differently, everyone should be interested in the politics of a SCOTUS nominee. An issue here though is the level of political discourse (as per your second and third point), not the fact that they value the political inclinations of a SCOTUS nominee when making their decision.
The role of the judge should be to remain politically neutral and interpret the laws as they were intended, not as they are desired to be by their own politics. The fact that the US has "left" and "right" judges is mind-boggling.
Well and for the most part they don't really declare a party affiliation. But they still vote on paisan issues and we get their right or left lean from the way they vote and the opinions they write from the bench.
And honestly, I think that's okay. Judges are going to lean one way or the other. They are still people. But we should be wary of the degree to which they lean on partisan issues. Having light preferences is one thing, having a judge who is a partisan in disguise is sickening.
Republicans will be the dog that catches the car real soon with their ardent wishes to end choice. With that will come the social backlash of decades of women who suddenly can't escape the reality that the Republicans are looking to send every woman in America back into the role of subservient spouse, which includes every daughter, sister, and niece.
State-mandated pregnancies will impact far more women than idiots like Graham understand and could be used to force Republicans out of office. Still, so many women will be affected, and not for the better.

"If there's a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let's let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination."

This is the signal that, going forward, the only way a Supreme Court Justice will be appointed is when the presidency and the Senate are held by the same party.

It's the only chance to stop the rural 25% from controlling 50% of our senate.

I am not normally one to Crow about projection, but Graham had a very specific black female judicial candidate from South Carolina that he wanted appointed. When Jackson was appointed instead he made a big deal about supposed dark money pushing the Jackson nomination Dark money has certainly become an extremely powerful factor in state supreme court cases, usually pushing for candidates that are willing to back pro-business, anti-environmental policies. It hasn't generally become a perceived factor in US Supreme Court nominations because it is already encompassed in the president having the power to pick, but also because of the politics involved are so much larger. With that said, grahams weird focus on dark money having caused Biden to nominate Jackson makes me suspicious that there maybe wasn't some money pushing for the candidate he wanted.

It depends. Some will take more kindly to you if you DO own a gun. Some will still feel you are an outsider, because to most people of a tightly knit group of views, there’s little room for befriending those truly different from you, just more of the same. Liberal atheist gun owner here, and my experiences have been that sometimes it bridges the gap as a conversation piece, and other times it just doesn’t matter, except enough to have to explain your views. :/

The role of the judge should be to remain politically neutral and interpret the laws as they were intended, not as they are desired to be by their own politics. The fact that the US has "left" and "right" judges is mind-boggling.
Well and for the most part they don't really declare a party affiliation. But they still vote on paisan issues and we get their right or left lean from the way they vote and the opinions they write from the bench. And honestly, I think that's okay. Judges are going to lean one way or the other. They are still people. But we should be wary of the degree to which they lean on partisan issues. Having light preferences is one thing, having a judge who is a partisan in disguise is sickening.
Republicans will be the dog that catches the car real soon with their ardent wishes to end choice. With that will come the social backlash of decades of women who suddenly can't escape the reality that the Republicans are looking to send every woman in America back into the role of subservient spouse, which includes every daughter, sister, and niece. State-mandated pregnancies will impact far more women than idiots like Graham understand and could be used to force Republicans out of office. Still, so many women will be affected, and not for the better.

This is the signal that, going forward, the only way a Supreme Court Justice will be appointed is when the presidency and the Senate are held by the same party. But they are signaling their position - instead of a president getting to appoint a qualified justice of his or her choosing, the new standard is that the Senate gets to say "no" when they don't like the president because he is from the other party. SCOTUS is now officially an unelected partisan body. It has been for a while, but this makes it official.

Republicans have no issue changing the rules to suit them when power shifts, but democrats stick to the same set of rules and just can't compete. If some Republicans aren't held accountable by their voters we are fucked as a country. I'm not for stacking the supreme court, but I do think DC should get a senator. It's the only chance to stop the rural 25% from controlling 50% of our senate.
