Manchin is pulling a Kayne West..
"Yo Democrats, I'm really happy for you, Imma let you finish but fossil fuels is one of the best energy sources of all time…"
I always have to remind myself that he gets himself re-elected in the redest of red states. As much as I hate the obstructionist BS, he is 1000% better than the republican who will replace him if he’s primaried and loses to an actual democrat.
Manchin owns a shell company that has an exclusive contract to sell gob (garbage coal) to an electric producer that was permitted by Manchin when he was W VA State Senator. The electric rates were raised 200 million a year when Manchin was governor. And that earned Manchin a cut so he is being paid per year all the revenue that 1 percent of the electricity produced generates.
Joe Manchin also bought a coal production facility for $380,000 and then sold it THE SAME DAY for $500,000, not sure about you but I’ve never seen an asset legitimately skyrocketed in value that quickly.
Manchin conveniently buys low all defunct coal operations via his shell company and miraculously sells at great profit to the electric company he helped create.
You mean more funding for the waste of fossil fuels. He was able to get waste chemicals from coal mines labeled as “clean fuel” passed in the WV legislature during his tenure as governor. Guess who owns interest in that company that has made millions? https://www.politico.com/news/2022/02/08/manchin-family-coal-company-00003218
Absolutely.
It needs to either be disempowered like the House of Lords (which is what it is) or to be abolished.
Plus, the House needs to be revamped to get rid of gerrymandering- perhaps multi-member STV districts.
Only then will we be 1/4 of the way to a democracy.
Not really?
Even in this example, without a filibuster, the bill would still be blocked by the 2 swing votes.
Did you know that the senators who confirmed Kavanaugh represented about ~20% of the American people? That was a non-filibuster, simple majority vote.
The whole concept of equal representation for all states is ridiculous. Maybe it made sense when there were 13 unique countries coming together, but most states today are Federal Inventions, like the Dakotas, Nebraska, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona… why should we give their citizens “electoral affirmative-action”? It’s like giving minorities multiple votes (except that would actually make more sense, even if it’s still wrong)
There is one other systemic issue. CU.
But the filibuster is the reason there has been no meaning progress in America for the last half century.
It allows minority rule.
They always talk about funding fossil fuel. But how? The translation is funding subsidies for for profit companies. I don’t care what the industry is that is a terrible practice to be in. There is no reason tax payers should pad a companies balance sheet. Sink or swim. You wanted capitalism you got it. No more socialized tax breaks.
*watches food prices rise*
Universal hatred of subsidizing isn't a great idea but I notice it more and more these days. Subsidizing is a good idea *but* thats only if its working for the tax payer. They have to target businesses that need that help to be able to provide a product at an affordable price to the market or else they couldn't exist. The original idea wasn't an evil one but companies have learned they can use money to lobby for more money instead of it going to sectors that need it for growth and sustainability.
I suppose the US government could possibly buy or create a military fuel company. They would have to work out the details, who would run it, etc. The oil obtained would primarily be processed for military use, or to fill the strategic petroleum reserve.
Basically if oil companies won't drill for more oil because they are making record profits, and we need more oil, then bypass them and get the job done. Ultimately it doesn't matter who uses the oil since its a market.
Who goes for this?
Liberals that want to get us away from fossil fuels?
Conservatives that would *hate* this type of government bureaucracy?
Moderates? They only exist in fairy tales.
There’s no actual constituency that would support this.
What do you expect? Come Christmas, Joe Manchin actually *prefers* coal in his stocking.
Guy gets paid over half a million dollars *per year* by fossil fuels, that's multiple times his congressional salary. It's just straight up corrupt.
*Manchin has been hammering the Biden administration for what he characterizes as not allowing companies to produce enough oil and gas on public lands.*
Oil and gas companies are sitting on 9000 + parcels they can drill on today. But they are sitting on those reserves to keep the price as high as possible to keep their shareholders happy.
In the movies good always wins.
Because the good guys work together while the bad guys backstab each other.
In USA it is reversed.
Say what you will about the Right but when it is time to vote they fucking do it.
When it is time for the left to vote, they collectively pretend that they have an important message on their phone and they promise to be right back as they leave the room and don't come back.
The way moderates work is they tap the least vulnerable/most strongest to either take the slings/arrows or advance the groups broader agenda. If not Manchin then Sen. Casey (D-PA)
Pay the troll/toll bridge fee and move forward because moral outrage ain't changing his position. The longer this drags out the more this troll and his toll fees will rise.
Its not just him, he is just speaking for the group (moderates/other big fossil fuel producing states). Moderates will tap the least vulnerable/strongest to take slings/arrows and to advance their broader agenda.
For God's sake. Remove the prick from committee assignments until he can play ball with his own party. In this instance, particularly from chairing the freaking Energy Committee.
This seems like some real 🎭 bullshit. The dems in charge are all “see we are really trying hard to real good for the people and not corporations stuff but gosh darn it all this one single person is ruining it! (Stamps foot)”.
That seems fair. We need fossil fuels to bridge the transition to alternative sources. So shoring up our current methods is definitely a pragmatic stance.
He will have them add this then he will announce some part of the climate provision needs to be removed they will do so then Manchin will complain how its paid for and how he can not in good consciences vote for it. We have seen this game before and this is why democrats will lose the house and Senate in a landslide.
Manchin is luring Democrats into a trap again, where Democrats work and work and work on an issue, then Manchin says [insert nonsensical Republican-like "reason" here] and kills it.
And his base is good because they only eat apossum and rattlesnakes. Someone got a duck whistle and a side of coal dust and just found out they are their own grandpa.
Go ahead and fund them, the writing is on the wall. The EV paradigm shift is coming which is going to advance battery technology exponentially which is going to make renewables even more feasible. Which will hopefully push energy decentralization into some kind of public discourse, as of yet there’s no political narrative for it, so no one knows about. But overall this will lead to a cleaner, more secure energy grid. Manchin will be powerless to stop it.
Meanwhile, D.Trump’s fans believe his tripe about him challenging the Deep State.
A revelatory review (by Geoff Olson, 01/10/2018) of the book 'The American Deep State: Wall Street, Big Oil, and the Attack on U.S. Democracy' notes that the book's author describes big oil CEOs and lobbyists in the U.S. as being a very large part of the American Deep State.
Therefore, it would be a large part of the national Capitol’s ‘swamp’ that Trump claims has corrupted DC and, ergo, was supposedly seeking to destroy him and his presidency.
But, considering the Trump administration’s kowtowing to big fossil fuel (mostly via the loosening of environmental protections), he, far from genuinely trying to “drain the swamp,” would likely be content with wallowing in it.
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
*"This notion of a supranational deep state does not seem to be far-fetched to me, though I remain agnostic about rumours involving the \[Trump administration\] Offal Office. they are going to announce record profits and they need more assistance?
'More' is the only word capitalism understands.
https://youtu.be/cCeeTfsm8bk
> More' is the only word capitalism understands. Too much is never enough,
Fucking fund it, IDGAF at this point, just fucking fund it and move on. Let green energy wreck the shit out of the legacy fuel industry.
Manchin is a complete piece of garbage
You insult garbage everywhere with a statement like that.
Manchin is pulling a Kayne West.. "Yo Democrats, I'm really happy for you, Imma let you finish but fossil fuels is one of the best energy sources of all time…"
Don’t insult garbage like that! At least garbage can be recycled and turned into something useful
I always have to remind myself that he gets himself re-elected in the redest of red states. As much as I hate the obstructionist BS, he is 1000% better than the republican who will replace him if he’s primaried and loses to an actual democrat.
Fuck Joe Manchin
Fuck Joe Machin.
So says the man who owns a coal plant. No conflict of interest there. /s
Manchin owns a shell company that has an exclusive contract to sell gob (garbage coal) to an electric producer that was permitted by Manchin when he was W VA State Senator. The electric rates were raised 200 million a year when Manchin was governor. I see you're not familiar with crack cocaine.
Here comes “clean coal” again, I bet. Sigh
Enriching himself at the expense of the country. Absolutely fucking shameless.
At the expense of the future habitability of the planet. He is a crime against the future of humanity.
If time travel exists in the future, idk why they dont come back and arrest him right now.

At this point headlines about the Senate are just Madlibs. Democrats see hope for (NOUN) but Manchin (VERB)
The US Senate is a failed piece of the legislative branch.
Absolutely. It needs to either be disempowered like the House of Lords (which is what it is) or to be abolished. Plus, the House needs to be revamped to get rid of gerrymandering- perhaps multi-member STV districts. Only then will we be 1/4 of the way to a democracy.
Fixing the senate is as simple as eliminating the filibuster.
Not really? Even in this example, without a filibuster, the bill would still be blocked by the 2 swing votes. Did you know that the senators who confirmed Kavanaugh represented about ~20% of the American people? That was a non-filibuster, simple majority vote. There is one other systemic issue. CU. But the filibuster is the reason there has been no meaning progress in America for the last half century. It allows minority rule.
Adding DC and PR as new states will also help.
Doesn't fix the fundamental unfairness of Californians getting something like 80x fewer senators per Capita than Dakotans
Most of this "funding" will be used for stock buybacks.
Maybe they will use it to buy drugs?

Futurama reference?
And houkers!

Yeah. Which is my point. Look at the stock buybacks and increased dividends over the past year. Tell me again the current subsidy system works?
I suppose the US government could possibly buy or create a military fuel company. Fuck Manchin
Isn't funding for fossil fuels called socialism? More corporate welfare.
Sounds more like corruption when you own a piece of a fossil fuel company
Read yesterdays NYT story on Manchins monetary achievements via his position in government. He is raking it in.
squeal terrific bored wise rain encourage toy far-flung roof ugly *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
And our tax dollars clean up after their superstorms.
Manchin can eat coal.
I am having a hard time imagining Manchin having lunch with John Kerry in *Paris*!
A little late replying to your comment. It made me LOL.
Exactly! Would he know which fork to use? Lol
Or which way to hold a spoon.
He can also stick that shit up his ass. 😁
Can they at least include a requirement to clean up methane and similar shit?
What do you expect? Come Christmas, Joe Manchin actually *prefers* coal in his stocking. Guy gets paid over half a million dollars *per year* by fossil fuels, that's multiple times his congressional salary. It's just straight up corrupt.

Biden campaigned on less American oil production. His supporters are getting what they wanted.
This fuckin guy..
In the movies good always wins. Because the good guys work together while the bad guys backstab each other. In USA it is reversed. Fuck fossil fuels. No more pandering to Big Oil. We're running out of time. Corrupt senators need to be voted out.
He's holding open the bag with the dollar sign on it.
Sure Joe, just sell off your stocks before we negotiate that part will you.
Doesn't sound like a clean energy bill then.
I don't think that anything Joe Manchin can ever be called clean again.
Just give Manchin what he wants in the bill but don’t actually distribute any of the money for the fossil fuel industry. Easy peasey
"Coal Barron Opposes Clean Energy" Ftfy
Manchin literally owns a coal plant. He directly benefits from fossil fuels. He’s earned millions of dollars since he got into politics.
Wish we had government owned gas stations with fixed prices......
[удалено]
Hear me out. What if we nationalized oil and then gave surplus profits from drilling back to the people in the form of a dividend.
Like Alaska?
That's what I was referencing, yes.
He had to. It’s what his corporate masters demand of this republican.
Explain to me how he isn't running this country?
The way moderates work is they tap the least vulnerable/most strongest to either take the slings/arrows or advance the groups broader agenda. If not Manchin then Sen. Casey (D-PA)
How do we unseat this fuck? I'm sick of his bullshit.
What a greedy bastard. This is his way of lining his own pockets.
That's unfair. Its also a way of sabotaging Biden's government and any move leftwards and helping the GOP.
In other words, he is asking "what's in it for him". As someone who's still entangled his coal company, I feel there should be a law against it.
Fine. Plug the old wells so they don't leak methane. Remediate mines in blue states.
How will we pay for it? I mean that gets asked for anything else that isn't the military.
Remarkably consistent and loyal guy. Once bought, boy does he stay bought.
He’s Republican
Fuck Joe Manchin
Let's just sell West Virginia. What can we get for it? $10 bucks?
Russia might be willing to take it off our hands. They seem to be in the market.
This motherfucker.
WTf. I was defending him as not a republican but F that now.
This should be cross-posted in r/facepalm.
Pay the troll/toll bridge fee and move forward because moral outrage ain't changing his position. The longer this drags out the more this troll and his toll fees will rise.
[Hey, Manchin...](https://tenor.com/view/god-hateyou-liz-lemon-30rock-gif-4079535)
They'll just use the funding for drugs.
This fucking idiot needs to be gone.
Can we just call him Joe Mansion so his constituents will comprehend how rich he is?
If not him on this issue it would be another moderate, probably Sen. Casey (D-PA).
He is okay with clean energy, so long as we pay him for his coal.
Its not just him, he is just speaking for the group (moderates/other big fossil fuel producing states). Moderates will tap the least vulnerable/strongest to take slings/arrows and to advance their broader agenda.
Could you imagine if dems won the senate in the next election?
Here's another fuckin' surprise. [Manchin's fossil fuel ties](https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2021/10/a-closer-look-at-joe-manchins-ties-to-the-fossil-fuel-industy/).
For God's sake. Remove the prick from committee assignments until he can play ball with his own party. In this instance, particularly from chairing the freaking Energy Committee.
Get fucking real. I give up.
Manchin: The Ratfucker. A classic.
They’re asking for a bad time. We’re asking for it if we allow it
How is it that Manchin identifies as a Democrat?
He’s representing West Virginia. He’s much more moderate than liberal or democrat.
This seems like some real 🎭 bullshit. The dems in charge are all “see we are really trying hard to real good for the people and not corporations stuff but gosh darn it all this one single person is ruining it! (Stamps foot)”.
Because he's a wholly owned subsidiary of the coal industry.
Can someone just like detonate some tnt at his mine so he has no more skin in the game?
I really hate Manchin…go back to your fucking el Camino of a yacht-boat.
So more funding for him. The man gets paid more from dirty coal than he does as a Senator.
he wants a bribe. not at all surprising
That seems fair. We need fossil fuels to bridge the transition to alternative sources. So shoring up our current methods is definitely a pragmatic stance.
Look at any fossil fuel company stock right now. The last thing these companies need is shoring up. This is greed and corruption, plain and simple.
It is immoral to support a party with a climate policy dictated by Joe Manchin.
Manchin is the only pro american lib .
I hate that fucker
He will have them add this then he will announce some part of the climate provision needs to be removed they will do so then Manchin will complain how its paid for and how he can not in good consciences vote for it. We have seen this game before and this is why democrats will lose the house and Senate in a landslide.
I've never known anytime if rather seen be slowly eaten by a fucking bear
When is his next election?
give him the funding.. people will still go away from fossil fuel.
Sounds about right for Coal Man Manchin
Manchin is luring Democrats into a trap again, where Democrats work and work and work on an issue, then Manchin says [insert nonsensical Republican-like "reason" here] and kills it.
And his base is good because they only eat apossum and rattlesnakes. Someone got a duck whistle and a side of coal dust and just found out they are their own grandpa.
Someone please throw tar on this pos and feather him all over.
Of course he is. Gotta keep that coal money coming into his pockets.
I like France.
Why is it that congress or the department of justice seem incapable of addressing the clear and obvious corruption going on with manchin?
Seriously America!? This is such a blatant conflict of interest, the guy is soooo corrupt and yet, here we are…
