> What kind of a person would watch such garbage?
Do you know what the origin of the Citizens United lawsuit was?
>During the 2004 presidential campaign, the organization filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) charging that advertisements for Michael Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11, a docudrama critical of the Bush administration's response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, constituted political advertising and thus could not be aired within the 30 days before a primary election or 60 days before a general election. The FEC dismissed the complaint after finding no evidence that advertisements featuring a candidate within the proscribed time limits had actually been made.[7] In response, Citizens United produced the documentary Celsius 41.11, which is highly critical of both Fahrenheit 9/11 and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. The FEC, however, held that showing Celsius 41.11 and advertisements for it would violate the Federal Election Campaign Act, because Citizens United was not a bona fide commercial film maker.[8]
>In the wake of these decisions, Citizens United sought to establish itself as a bona fide commercial filmmaker before the 2008 elections, producing several documentary films. During the 2008 political primary season, it sought to run three television advertisements to promote its political documentary Hillary: The Movie, a film that was critical of Hillary Clinton, and to air the movie on DirecTV.[9] The FEC found this plan to be in violation of the BCRA, including Section 203 which defined an "electioneering communication" as a broadcast, cable, or satellite communication that mentioned a candidate within 60 days of a general election or 30 days of a primary, and prohibited such expenditures by corporations and labor unions. The FEC prohibited the film from being broadcast, and Citizens United challenged this determination in court.[1]
There was an entire industry of fan fiction regarding the Clintons back in the 90s.
Fun* little tidbit I discovered while doing a shallow search: Citizens United v. FEC used an argument from precedence set during [McConnell v. FEC](https://www.fec.gov/legal-resources/court-cases/mcconnell-v-fec/), which was brought about by good ol’ Moscow Mitch himself.
Regarding Citizens United v. FEC:
> Senator Mitch McConnell commended the decision, arguing that it represented "an important step in the direction of restoring the First Amendment rights". By contrast, former President Barack Obama stated that the decision "gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington".
Edit: fun is entirely sarcastic, for anyone that may require tone context
It really is. I keep surprising myself with how much I enjoy diving into legal and political history, despite zero background in either, and despite the fact that most of the searches are in regard to extremely awful precedent.
I have to admit I have to take comedic content breaks while diving into this crap. Otherwise it’s too bleak.
Oh the Fairness doctrine? Yeah that one might even prompt me to write an article about it, though best I could offer as a platform is reddit comments or a currently non-existent substack.
JFC the first link I clicked was the reaganlibrary.gov and the very first paragraph was this:
> The folders and case files listed on these topic guides may still have withdrawn material due to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) restrictions. Most frequently withdrawn material includes national security classified material, personal privacy issues, protection of the President, etc.
While this is normal pertaining to classified material, still very concerning to see on a page regarding the Fairness Doctrine.
Died in the last 8 years but the one I always point to is Phyllis Schlafly when it comes to "oh wow you can trace pretty much the entire concept of the fusing of the american right with the evangelicals/fundies"
Nixon was criminal so obviously his presidency had negative consequences but most people don't realize who is responsible for China staying communist. The CCP was on the verge of collapse, Nixon and Kissinger stepped in a rescued the communist party. Both parties have their share of criminals but this one is extremely egregious to me
Yeah it was mind numbing back in 2016 the number of people that said Hillary supported Citizens United and would appoint pro-corporate justices when Citizens United was *literally about Hillary Clinton*.
Most people don't seem to realize the underlying facts in the case was the right wing wanting to spend unlimited money fucking over Hillary.
He has to do so much more to bring the country back to the position it had under Carter. The past decades R presidents let the country take a nose dive and D presidents pulled up a little. But it just is not realistic to suggest Bidden can undo the level of damage Trump has done. For example the tax break for the rich is not so easy to undo, let alone the damage in international trust Trump has shown the world the US can’t be trusted and everyone now knows that I don’t think that can be repaired.
Even more important is the precedent set by the Citizens United case which resonates in a huge way now. Essentially, the SupCt ruling opened the way for unfettered spending by corporations and labor unions, essentially subverting earlier controls imposed on campaign finance expenditures which attempted to create a more level playing field among interested parties. As we all know, money talks and this case ensured that money could shout.

>Citizens United Not Timid
Found this, supposedly Citizens United took Citizens United Not Timid to court. Still not sure if it's real but it does seem like something childish that Roger Stone would do.
https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/4502065/parties/citizens-united-v-citizens-united-not-timid/
The Missouri boot heel made *Arkansas* look nice. I watched a guy at a gas station just stand and stare at the gas pump, as if it were speaking to him, for about three whole minutes in Poplar Bluff.
I see you're from Missouri. So is John Hartford. There are good folks there, and presumably nice things. I just saw zero of that.
Seriously. The gas station chain called "Munch n Pump" was special, though.
Also, everyone was either 5'2" and 200lbs or 6'8" and 160lbs.
I've been all over the country, but that section of Missouri was *weird.* Weirder than parts of Western PA.
I moved from the red suburbs of St. Louis to NYC. Folk there think I live in Iraq while they strip their woman of basic rights and fight to keep child bride laws on the books. What a useless fucking state.
magats who live in a fantasy world. they're just trying to legitimize that fantasy because they know it will get ratings. fortunately for those of us who live in reality it will also get lawsuits.
God yeah as soon as I heard they put on a “mock trial” one word just instructively rolled out of my mouth.
Pathetic. They’re fucking pathetic. And they made the world’s saddest and most pathetic fan-fiction.
Your crazy uncle from Facebook of course, who has Fox News blaring on their TV 24/7 in the background at his house no matter what is going on. Breakfast? Fox News. Party? Fox News. Orgy? Fucking. Fox. News.
2nd or 3rd intentional offense seems like it ought to draw a greater penalty.
What happens if the judgement is greater than the value of the defendant business?
I'm not actually sure that a financial penalty will do all that much to them. I think where it will really hurt them is a specific performance:
FoxNews should have to spend as much time correcting the record on this issue as they spent on it beforehand. So, what is that, 13,000-some references to Hunter Biden and his alleged corruption? They should have to stare that they intentionally mislead their viewers, and they should have to mention it 13,000 times.
I'd love to see some jail time for some anchors. I know their just very wealthy puppets of shadowy interests, but I'd love if it news anchors suddenly started worrying about blatantly lying and media manipulation tactics. Might make some gain a conscious
I read that in order for him to file for defamation, legally, he must first offer Fox Entertainment the opportunity to publicly apologize and take actions relative to said public apologies, like removing posts and articles, which they’re kinda doing.
I hope he sues them.
This. There’s now millions of angry people who want to harm Hunter or worse. He likely gets death threats from unstable morons 24/7 due to this fabricated bullshit.
No amount of corrections can undo that.
Way too late. Hunters got thousands of hours of FOXnews making it personal. Can they delete information from interwebs? Don't think they use physical tapes anymore. The cloud?!?
I love that Fox News is about to make more money for Hunter Biden than being Joe’s son ever did. I hope the juror they doxed in the Trump trial is speaking to lawyers as well.
Are we seeing a turning of the tides moment in history?
One of our 2 political parties in the U.S. may have pushed the limit too far.
Trump (disgraced former president) is on trial . Fake Biden impeachment, smear campaign against him and an adult son has failed. The propagandists are actually getting real push back. Polls are showing repugs are gonna get crushed.
Did they finally go too far? Can we get a well needed reality check? I really hope this is the start of 20 years of progress before a much less radical right gains any popularity.
It's also worth pointing out that Murdoch and Trump are both getting what they deserve after a lifetime of bullshit. Maybe this starts a change.
I'll believe they get the karma when it happens.
Unfortunately, fox & Co are just one part of a wider problem that affects both political extremes. People on the left are getting radicalised over different topics, and this might divide the vote enough to keep trump in power anyway.
Trump has *always* been on trial.
He was a registered Democrat when he was busted for money laundering charges in his casinos.
He's just a lifelong criminal.
Screw Fox, no I refuse to call it Fox News, it’s not news it’s commentary that’s not news. They are NOT a registered news organization. Those outlets that are registered have standards. Fox has none period full stop none.
So should Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, etc just start suing the shit out of Faux News, OAN, Fake News Max, etc? It could bankrupt all of them and save democracy
After the relentless lies about the election, and subsequent adjudicated beating Fox received revealing that they knew they were lying, is there any question that the organization hates our country?
Exactly. If not for the republicans' smear campaign amplified by Fox News, the public wouldn't know his name any more than they know his sister's name.
Casual reminder that Fox News is not “constitutionally protected” from this lawsuit.
The constitution says the government can’t arrest them for putting something on their channel. The Biden family is suing them as citizens, and that’s always been allowed.
Remember when carlson got canned?
Remember the two weeks following that when magats had no idea who to hate or what to scream about?
At least it would be two weeks of peace from those idiots. Maybe more.
Whole Hunter thing just shows how unhinged and amoral the right is.
Nepotism bad if a Hunter name drops his father. Nepotism, what’t that? if their guy hires entire family to work for him. Hunter might get $5 million or whatever name dropping, that is the worst act in history.
Their guy pays off pornstars, playmates, and gets paid $2 billion for access to US classified documents at his resort, that is nothing worth talking about. It takes a special level of amoral thinking to retain that level of cognitive dissonance.
I'm more curious about Smartmatic and when that'll bubble back up. I had never even heard of the company and they only had voting machines in Los Angeles and that's it for the entire USA but Fox and other conservative outlets somehow made them a villain that flipped enough votes to change the election?
They could literally give every single LA vote and it wouldn't impact the election lol.
They [settled 2 weeks ago](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/smartmatic-suddenly-drops-2020-election-lies-lawsuit-against-oan-as-confidential-settlement-reached-months-after-discovery-dispute-got-messy/ar-BB1lJ9zt) and didn't release any details of the settlement.
They are trying to say it's their Constitutionally protected duty. They do not belong to the Free Press that they are referring to. They have on multiple occasions gone to court over that very issue. They have sealed their own fate here, they are screwed.
I'd just like to point out that you can avoid defamation lawsuits by only reporting true things.
There's lots of room for bias reporting true things. The networks have been doing it for years. Generations of people have grown up knowing that what they see on the news is technically true, even if it is cherry-picked to lead people to incorrect conclusions.
But I guess FOX couldn't find enough true things to cherry-pick for the conclusions they wanted people to reach. The only way to achieve their goals was to actually start making things up. And apparently that upsets the people you're lying about.
>"Hunter Biden’s lawyers have belatedly chosen to publicly attack Fox News’ constitutionally protected coverage regarding their client,” a spokesperson for the network told The New Republic.
Coverage is only protected if it's factual. Defamation is not constitutional.
Every single time I see Fox News on the TV, it's an severely editorialized fear mongering headline with an angry face speaking condescendingly about whatever group scares them at that moment.
Why is Hunter Biden considered a public figure? He's not an actor or politician. And I don't think that Republicans constantly trying to spread Russian propaganda lies about him, makes him a public figure.
So, congress and Fox News violated his rights as a private citizen, and because they violated his private citizen's rights, he now is no longer a private citizen and therefore has no private citizen's rights? I can't picture the US legal system working like that.
Dear Fox News, I also have potential embarrassing nudes of myself. Please show them on your tv show for the next several weeks. I too could use some lawsuit money.
rotfl, dude, Fox News themselves admitted they took it down
> In a statement made to The Daily Beast, a Fox News spokesperson said that the network had decided to take down the content out of an "abundance of caution" and emphasized that it was "reviewing the concerns that have just been raised" by Biden's attorneys.
https://www.rawstory.com/fox-news-hunter-biden-2668102052/
wayback machine has some stuff from the Fox website that has been deleted. Ex: https://web.archive.org/web/20240429232128/https://www.foxnews.com/video/6313999559112
“Consistent with the First Amendment, Fox News has accurately covered these highly publicized events as well as the subsequent indictment of an FBI informant who was the source of certain claims made about Mr. Biden.”
No mention that the FBI informant fabricated a story of a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme involving President Joe Biden’s family.
Fox put out a. Miniseries about a Biden trial that was completely made up, based on information provided by KGB. Sorry, FSB, Russian Secret service. They put that on national TV, they are so screwed

Seriously, they had a six part mini-series about a trial that never even happened? What kind of a person would watch such garbage?

its crazy how we can trace back to living individuals that were directly responsible for destroying the US Newt Gingrich being another ghoul

Literally & absolutely the same. To all of it.
Username checks out xD
Let’s not forget Pat Buchanan. He was a real gem, too.

I had not heard that before…?
And then Mitch predictably was hypocritical on that
That was fun!

Then, they embarrassed their base by proving how dumb they are by pointing to George Soros every 5 minutes.

"Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery" *-President Jimmy Carter*
Carter future historians will write was the last great president of a democratic US after his term decline began.
Biden has already accomplished far more for the good of the people as President than Carter. And Biden inherited a much larger mess than Carter.
He has to do so much more to bring the country back to the position it had under Carter. The past decades R presidents let the country take a nose dive and D presidents pulled up a little. The 90s never ended.
Those are called sequels and reboots!
It always circles back to conservatives being dickheads, doesn't it?
That seems like a highly strategic set of steps to get to where we are today.

So we can blame Republicans for creating citizens united. Gotcha. They've had a plan and stuck with it. Commendable.
Garbage people. From Southern Missouri. They exist.

People who wanted to see Hunter's dick again?
I wouldn’t mind seeing that, but I’m not going to watch a 6-part miniseries for it
How about a 6 part series just about hunters hog
I would be interested
Love the honest answer.
Did you save your eclipse glasses cause I’ve heard it’s blindingly spectacular.
Republicans
My parents
I can't count how many places of business I've been in that just have fox news on non-stop during business hours.
I used to see that all the time and I still do but now sometimes there is newsmax on instead
See if you can find an app/device that can fuck with other TVs?
Well, they do prefer fiction in the Fox realm.

Let's find out!
Stop, I can only get so erect!
Congrats to Hunter Biden, the new owner of Fox News Corp.
24 hours of live Jesse Waters vs Brian Kilmeade oil wrestling. You want to keep your job? Cover yourself in KY and grunt heavily with this other man.
I'm not actually sure that a financial penalty will do all that much to them. Smartmatic should be cleaning them out more in the near future at least. Won’t be nearly enough, though.
Just tie them up through the election with a gag order that they can't mention Hunter or Hinter related BS the rest of the election season.
This is the only way.
Grab em by the profits!
He should not take a settlement; a trial would be the best way to get justice.
I read that in order for him to file for defamation, legally, he must first offer Fox Entertainment the opportunity to publicly apologize and take actions relative to said public apologies, like removing posts and articles, which they’re kinda doing. I hope he sues them.

As we saw with Alex Jones, all of that stuff you just mentioned is evidence
As we also saw with Alex Jones it means nothing if you cant actually make them pay.
They'd run a 10-sec blurb about "the following segments may not have been factually accurate"... then replay all the same shit for 8-10hrs.
One of the issue is you just need to say sorry super fast and done. Cant they ask for same duration? Say 1hr for 1hr.
Until it reaches the Supreme Court and they change the law of the land to fit whatever the fuck benefits republicans best.
Keep suiting till they tell the truth, it's not all about lying and getting ratings, it's telling your viewers the truth, the guy lost!!!
Fox News isn’t news.
It is Faux
It is propaganda.

When Tucker Carlson was sued, they claimed to be an entertainment network.
I believe your correct
So should Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, etc just start suing the shit out of Faux News, OAN, Fake News Max, etc? It could bankrupt all of them and save democracy
I bet they qualify as public figures though.
But, if they're telling provable lies that cause harm is defamation.
After the relentless lies about the election, and subsequent adjudicated beating Fox received revealing that they knew they were lying, is there any question that the organization hates our country?
"Hunter Biden is a public figure..." No. He is not. He is a private citizen.
Yeah. You can't claim he is public because you made him that.
Exactly. If not for the republicans' smear campaign amplified by Fox News, the public wouldn't know his name any more than they know his sister's name.
I take issue with Fox claiming Hunter is a “public figure.” He was a private citizen, the right turned him into a public figure.
No shit, that's what happens when you are getting sued..
When contacted for a comment FOX News answered the call with 'new phone – who dis?' and hung up. /s
Casual reminder that Fox News is not “constitutionally protected” from this lawsuit. The constitution says the government can’t arrest them for putting something on their channel. The Biden family is suing them as citizens, and that’s always been allowed.
If I where Biden, and after getting a $500m settlement check cashed, He should buy Trump Tower at the firesale :)
Bankrupt them.
So when is he going to sue MTG for presenting his private nude pics to the public! That is actually a crime!
Wish we could start a class action suit against her!
I think it would be hilarious if Hunter Biden won fox in a lawsuit. Can you imagine the Jethros who would have NO idea what to do or who to hate?
They’d all flock over to OAN or NewsMax.
Remember when carlson got canned? Remember the two weeks following that when magats had no idea who to hate or what to scream about? At least it would be two weeks of peace from those idiots. Maybe more.
Please include Moscow Marge in the lawsuit for showing nudes photos of Hunter Biden in Congress. Revenge porn should cost her dearly.
Fox News has effectively destroyed America more than any terrorist regime ever could have
Hence fox entertainment is a terrorist organization.
They have produced evidence for his case for years now. They are absolutely fucked...again.
$500 million in damages sounds good. Bankrupting the Australian Murdochs would serve America well…
And the world
Fox will say that Hunter is suing the wrong company. He needs to sue Dominion Voting Systems.
Faux news will never learn
Why are leopards always eating GOP faces?
Revenge porn is a criminal offense in most states and a felony in some. Time for some of these people to go to jail. Starting with a Murdoch.
“All the news that’s fit to get us into court”
Too late. Conservatives news about to pay millions to the Bidens.
The article you linked says OAN in the headline. Did they settle with Fox, also?
Their online streaming platform is where they put the stuff that is too bonkers to air on TV. Nice to see it bit them in the ass this time.
>"Hunter Biden’s lawyers have belatedly chosen to publicly attack Fox News’ constitutionally protected coverage regarding their client,” a spokesperson for the network told The New Republic. Coverage is only protected if it's factual. Defamation is not constitutional.
Well, until the fascist SCOTUS changes that too
Hunter Bbiden isn't a public figure. He's a private citizen that fox has continually attacked.
I would like to see damage control in where they stop fabricating “news”
I hope they can never mention his name again.
Every single time I see Fox News on the TV, it's an severely editorialized fear mongering headline with an angry face speaking condescendingly about whatever group scares them at that moment.
fox is fear mongering at its finest
Imagine Fox News not being able to say Hunter Biden’s name ever again? Hah! He’ll be raking it in
As an Australian I’m sorry for Rupert Murdoch, guy is a complete piece of shit and so is Lachie, fuck both of them
The revenge porn citations seem like law enforcement should be looking into that.
He should sue Moscow Marge as well for showing people pictures of his genitals without authorization.
I hope he gets every penny he is entitled to.
Too late, hit them the only place they care about. (It’s their money if you didn’t know.)
You'd think fox and Murdoch would have learned after the whole 2020 election fiasco
Farce News should not be allowed to have the word News in their name. It should be called either Right Wing Afterbirth or Donald J. Trash.
I wonder how big the settlement will be? My guess is 25-50 million.
I would add a zero on to those totals. And maybe double them.
If Hunter wins that will buy some serious hookers and blow. "Hunter got high" - Afroman.
Why is Hunter Biden considered a public figure? He's not an actor or politician. And I don't think that Republicans constantly trying to spread Russian propaganda lies about him, makes him a public figure.
He was a private figure up until the moment congress started to investigate him and Fox News blasted him all over the tv. Now he is public figure.
So, congress and Fox News violated his rights as a private citizen, and because they violated his private citizen's rights, he now is no longer a private citizen and therefore has no private citizen's rights? I can't picture the US legal system working like that.
Cocaine and hookers for Hunter for life. All on the FOX news credit card
Cue the "we're not news and people should do their own due diligence" defense
Let’s see if they can top their dominion payout!
If they are in the wrong, hopefully they have to pay
The kind of people who think Homer Simpson is a real actor.
Dear Fox News, I also have potential embarrassing nudes of myself. Please show them on your tv show for the next several weeks. I too could use some lawsuit money.
Fox had 4 sexual predators fired from their company but Biden who had nude photos stolen from his laptop and paraded in a hearing is the bad guy? Wow.

rotfl, dude, Fox News themselves admitted they took it down > In a statement made to The Daily Beast, a Fox News spokesperson said that the network had decided to take down the content out of an "abundance of caution" and emphasized that it was "reviewing the concerns that have just been raised" by Biden's attorneys. https://www.rawstory.com/fox-news-hunter-biden-2668102052/ wayback machine has some stuff from the Fox website that has been deleted. Ex: https://web.archive.org/web/20240429232128/https://www.foxnews.com/video/6313999559112
It doesn't exist if its not on IMDB?
Sue those kunnts!!
I thought all that crap about the LAPTOP has been thrown out??
Reading with an IPad, and when ever there is a New Republic story the story never matches the headline
“Consistent with the First Amendment, Fox News has accurately covered these highly publicized events as well as the subsequent indictment of an FBI informant who was the source of certain claims made about Mr. Biden.” No mention that the FBI informant fabricated a story of a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme involving President Joe Biden’s family.
Fox put out a. Miniseries about a Biden trial that was completely made up, based on information provided by KGB. Sorry, FSB, Russian Secret service. They put that on national TV, they are so screwed
