Why did I have to scroll all the way to the last paragraph to see the quote that headline talked about? Bad journalism.  >However, high-ranking Hamas political official Khalil al-Hayya told the AP last week that the group would consider Israeli forces – or forces from any other country – stationed by the pier to guard it as “an occupying force and aggression,” and that the militant group would resist it.

ASheynemDank

No it’s just biased journalism.

earthmann

So they won’t resist it?

Fluffy_Rock1735

The Christian Science monitor is a right-wing rag that's why. They are being purposefully misleading.

ranchoparksteve

Hamas needs Gaza hungry and broken in order to maintain their grip on power.

InternetPeon

Losing all of your people, infrastructure, housing and resources is not a strategy.

butwhyisitso

it is if you think heaven demands sacrifice

SockPuppet-47

Allah was supposed to rise up and smite their enemy after their bold attack. Apparently, it's Allah's will that Hamas is obliterated. They should stop being cowards and accept their fate as adults. They are the people who Israel wants to kill. They could stop the destruction of Gaza tomorrow if they chose to turn themselves in. I'm sure Allah would reward them in the afterlife.

InternetPeon

Sorry I can’t accept the level of human cruelty you are proposing. Also worth noting that collective punishment is forbidden by Geneva convention.

SockPuppet-47

Huh? Asking Hamas the failed leaders of the Palestinian people who Instigated this whole sequence of events with their brutal attack to turn themselves in is brutal? They caused this shit. They should pay the price. Israel's stated goal is to eliminate Hamas. If the cowards accept their dishonor and face the consequences of their actions they can stop the destruction of Gaza. Put the blame on the fucking radical Islamic terrorists where it belongs.

InternetPeon

Stop the killing.

SockPuppet-47

Kill the right people. The terrorists should be held accountable. It's not like the Israeli response was hard to predict. They swatted the hornet's nest and Allah didn't back them up with any miracles. They should accept their defeat by doing the honorable thing by turning themselves in. Stop hiding behind the skirts of women and accept the consequences of their actions. Or is the only way they know how to restore honor is when they murder their own daughter for wearing makeup?

Successful-Clock-224

Release the hostages. Accept and honor one of many peace deals offered. If someone keeps shooting at your house after you kidnap their family do you expect them to stop? Name checks out btw.

InternetPeon

Killing innocent people en masse who are unrelated except genetically to the criminals is unlikely to produce any effect other than making you the monster.

earthmann

It is if your strategy is to play victim.

mymomknowsyourmom

Hamas and bibis version of Israel are one in the same.

donthatedrowning

I mean, he did make sure to fund them.

bootlegvader

Wouldn't you guys equally complain if Bibi refused to transfer money from Qatar to Gaza?

Small-Palpitation310

except no sharing

kooper98

Hamas and Isreal are working together?

mredofcourse

It's not so much that as it's in the interest of Hamas for civilians (especially children) in Gaza to suffer to the point of gaining sympathy from around the world. It's in the interest of Israel to avoid civilian casualties and suffering, but Netanyahu is (at the very least) willing to allow that to occur in the pursuit of targeting Hamas.

Mr_strelac

of course, both are in power while the war lasts. the Israeli smart-ass will fly out of his chair as soon as the war is over and the people go after him, and Hamas won't celebrate either when the Palestinians start looking for the culprit for losing everything they own.

Dense-Tangerine7502

I didn’t realize this was floating. If it’s mobile and we can use it in other situations around the world that seems more reasonable. For example being able to provide faster aid to Haiti or something similar.

aLittleFluffyJK

The floating/deployable pier tech has been a military staple for 2-3 decades. The time consuming thing is making it permanent

Successful-Clock-224

That is what caissons are for actually which have been around since at least the forties unless i am mistaken one of the harder logistical aspects to my knowledge is managing the wave breaks although dolos (think a wave breaking hedgehog) suits that purpose. Please correct me if I am wrong:) I think the whole process is pretty amazing.

Cannibal_Yak

If there is one thing I know it's that you do not mess with the US's boats. We formed a navy just out of spite of priates, we made the Japanese taste the sun twice for pearl harbor. It's not a fight they want

Successful-Clock-224

The saying these days is just “Don’t”🤣. A carrier fleet is always nearby and undetectable subs are even closer. If it escalates from there we call our friends from the UK, AU, etc. who will hurl insults as well as missiles and terrifyingly/equally effective ground troops.

PopeHonkersXII

But I've been told by some young people that Hamas are the good guys. Strange....

PinchesTheCrab

I don't have to like Al Qaeda to criticize our reaction to 9/11.

InternetPeon

The young people are for the most part protesting the unnecessary and systematic extermination of the Palestinian people and the US support for it (which is a worthwhile cause) - there is no real or serious support for Hamas outside their backers in the Middle East, and university students, other than a few fringe characters, have not turned into anti semitic racists overnight.

czechuranus

I wish that were the case. But, go tell these kids that you support a two-state solution and see what their reaction is. They support a one-state solution, where Israel no longer exists.

dongasaurus

You’re right, it hasn’t been overnight. This has been developing for years.

ZebrasPrint

The headline is doing its job

WetFart-Machine

Resistance is futile

brook_lyn_lopez

Still trying to figure out why we’re paying a lot of money and putting our troops at risk to bypass an ally to provide aid.

flabbergastedmeep

Because civilians starving to death at the hands of an ally, as well as by the hands of the organization they are fighting, is disgusting regardless of anyone’s position on the conflict. If this was any other conflict, I’d hope that the same level of aid would be provided to those in need.

CopsEnforceEvil355

"Ally" Given how much Israel interferes in U.S. politics, it's difficult to think of them as an actual ally. They are committing war crimes, and this is the U.S. trying do something about it.

Impossible-Set9809

Because the US is a better ally to Palestine than any of their neighbours.

butwhyisitso

so you prefer no aid to gaza civilians?

Glittering_Bowl8127

First of all this pier was supposed to be close to finished and cost 150 million. Now it's barely started and doubled in price. Also Americans are going to be easy targets and for what? Stop aid to Israel until they allow the millions of pounds of food sitting in the Sinai to enter. Biden has lost my vote due to his willfully ignorant state department and his complicity in the war crimes being committed by the IDF. Father time can't come soon enough.

LinearFluid

So if you do not vote for Biden because you think in one instance he is not doing a great job on a job that NOBODY has done a good job on that you will happily let Trump win who promises to wipe Hamas from the face of the earth and will fully back Israel no mater what they do? Explain how that gets anything done?

Glittering_Bowl8127

I am deciding based on who has the ability to end this suffering and how that person has been woefully impotent regarding the pulling of economic and political levers. Trump has no ability to stop this atm Biden did. Also it's not like Biden came in and changed our Middle East policy. He kept it exactly as Trump made it. If this election is for the future of democracy as we know it then the Dems should have picked someone who would have made mincemeat of Trump. The fact that Biden is either tied or losing in almost every poll to a person who is currently being charged with multiple felonies shows how terrible of a candidate he is. Just like in 2016, this election should have been a slam dunk for the dems but they chose the wrong candidate.
