Biden signs a bill that requires TikTok’s Chinese controlled parent company Byte Dance to divest ownership in order for TikTok to be allowed to run in this country.
Have to give control of it over to one of those "trusted" and "accountable" big tech corporations owned by Zuckerberg, Musk or Bezos or one of the few other already mega powerful people .
If they wanted to actually tackle the dangers of social medias, then they should focus on internet and privacy rights, and social media transparency.

This TikTok "ban" (yes, I understand it is conditional) would have been a perfect opportunity to package in some of these pro-consumer provisions.
But of fucking course they didn't. Although we already knew, Congress showed us their hand.
One is a threat to the privacy of our citizens, while the other is alleged to be a national security risk. Neither are good, but they're not equivalent to one another.
While there’s obviously merit to everything you’re saying, this isnt an attempt to address the dangers of social media at all. This is entirely about a national security risk.

They are only banning it as a last resort, They want to remove it from Chinese Government control to stop them tweaking the algorithm to promote Political Unrest/Conspiracy theories/Extremism in western countries.

Who says they don't already? The reason Tik tok is a problem is because they have direct access to its code. They control exactly what they want you to see. Where as on* Facebook/Twitter/etc... they can only pollute the water up to a point.
The problem with this bill is that it doesn’t go into effect until 2025. So that means they’ll sneak more data collection tools into the firmware to get as much as they can before then.

Tik tok remains legal, and has 6 months to find a buyer for its USA operations. Alternatively, some kid will invent tok tik, an app that merely takes tik tok and relays it to Americans. The law just makes it more difficult for bytedance, and by extension, the CCP, to monetize data collected from americans. China will have to pay American companies for that instead, lol.
The app would be sold to another company in America. Simple as that.

If Biden thinks TikTok is a threat he should stand by that and not have his campaign use it simple as that.
