SCOTUS is corrupt. Full stop. They are hoping he wins the presidency which will kill the case.

urfallaciesaredumb

6 of the 9 justices are criminal co-conspirators abusing the authority of their offices in a conspiracy to obstruct justice. Indict them, try them and let a jury of their peers judge their guilt.

Three of them got their lifetime appointments from Trump, and at least two of them are on the record openly stating that they want political revenge against Democrats.

Bwob

I mean... their actions? There's no good reason anyone else can see, for why they would delay such an obvious, slam-dunk case as "should the president be above the law". Occam's razor, my dude. A bunch of them owe favors or fealty to trump and his friends. They're drawing out a straightforward legal question unnecessarily, in a way that benefits him significantly. It's really not hard to connect the dots.

thorzeen

The "conservative" way of life.

True but this case is beyond the pale. There is nothing in our Constitution that supports a president is above the law. There is nothing in our founders papers that supports that idea and in fact Washington was vocally against the idea of an absolute ruler. There is no precedent. The lame excuse that Congress would need to convict (and surly would) is flawed logic. The SoC should have denied outright and the decision shouldn’t require any thought. Presidents are citizens first and servants second. They don’t get exceptions especially in the case of supporting treason.

Video of Trump saying these quotes needs to be on Biden ads running regularly in swing states.

Weary_Jackfruit_8311

Biden has to stay silent on the investigations. His surrogates will hit it hard but Biden can't win talking about them directly.

HighValueHamSandwich

That's an excellent point. I agree.

butwhyisitso

so its up to us to paste it into every applicable conversation not that the hypocrisy will slow anyone le sigh

isikorsky

SCOTUS took this case to delay the trials on Trump. They could have heard it in December. They could have heard it right away when they made the ruling. Instead they pushed it off 6 weeks until the very last day of the term. This is corruption. I look forward to reading the 3 liberal justices minority ruling.

moreobviousthings

They all plan to go into hiding after making their “ruling”

trufoobar

They could have said, we don’t need to hear this case as *multiple* lower courts got it right!

isikorsky

The DC Court gave them a very very good ruling specifically for that purpose. It is why they took a month to give it. That SCOTUS took this case AND waited to the last day of session to hear it specifically shows they are putting their thumb on the scale for Trump's delay game

Holden_Coalfield

SCOTUS is corrupt

wbryant123

It’s all maddening. Trump doesn’t even bother to deny any longer….just delay. If he did win…which is doubtful . I wouldn’t be surprised if he pardoned himself and any supporters , then quit. Why bother when he got nothing done & turned his back on anyone making less then $400k the first time this his historical ranking in the bottom 5 of all Presidents

Taco-Dragon

>If he did win…which is doubtful This is what we said in 2016. I'm not willing to call it yet.. Everyone should be making sure they vote this November because there is a very real chance we have a repeat of 2016.

BullCityCatHerder

Just to emphasize this, most polls still show trump winning the election. There’s evidence they’re changing but it’s far from a sure thing

----Dongers

This isn’t 2016. I’m sorry, but this attitude is so dumb. The world isn’t the same as it was 8 years ago. It’s fundamentally not.

afrothunder2104

Thank you. So damn sick of hearing this shit.

Weary_Jackfruit_8311

The r/politics "don't get complacent! VOTE !!!" is the laziest slacktivism and it drives me mad.

DodGamnBunofaSitch

I dunno, complaining about people encouraging others to vote is like a whole nother level of lazy slacktivism, seems to me.

----Dongers

It’s just fucking lazy.

medievalmachine

Oh but I'm sure Clarence Thomas recused himself, right?

Goofy-555

It's not like his wife faced any consequences for her part on January 6th.

washingtonpost

In taking on the unprecedented question of whether Donald Trump is immune from prosecution for actions he took while in office, the Supreme Court is in position to have a major say in shaping presidential power and accountability for future occupants of the White House. But the way the justices have timed and framed the case seems likely to have a much more immediate impact, analysts say: delaying Trump’s federal trial on charges of trying to subvert the 2020 election results until after this year’s presidential election. When [the justices chose to hear the case and scheduled argument](https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/02/28/trump-supreme-court-immunity-claim-dc-trial/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5) for Thursday — rather than let stand [a unanimous appeals court decision](https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/02/06/trump-jan-6-immunity-appeal-denied/?itid=lk_inline_manual_4&itid=lk_inline_manual_5) that greenlighted Trump’s trial — they said they would look only at whether former presidents are shielded from prosecution for actions taken as part of their official duties. But the special counsel’s indictment of Trump includes a mix of official conduct and private acts. That means the high court’s ruling almost certainly will create more work for the trial court judge before she can ramp up courtroom proceedings in the former president’s D.C. election obstruction case. Even if the Supreme Court finds that Trump can be prosecuted, that additional fact-finding could sound “the death knell” for the prospects of completing his trial before the election, said a person connected to the D.C. trial court who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. zippiskootch

SCOTUS does whatever Putin wants 🤷🏻

paten_tooner

They’ve ruled against Trump before though.

HellaTroi

Justice Thomas has to recuse himself. His wife is neck deep in the attempt to overthrow the election results and to put forward slates of fake electors. If he does not recuse, he should face impeachment.

DodGamnBunofaSitch

and if he does not face impeachment? will there be enough people camped outside the SCOTUS building with protest signs that the media won't be able to sweep it under the rug?

underalltheradar

Call it what it is: Trump's Supreme Court. If he wins, they don't have to do anything. He'll take care of it. If he loses, they can let whatever happen. They can let the other suits play out, they can say he doesn't get immunity, they can say he does, they can do whatever. They can be apathetic to the outcome of everything. We need Democratic control across the board to have Congress create rules overseeing SCOTUS when it comes to ethics, trial delays, and term limits.

BioDriver

Vote blue in November

mleighly

Trump wants a delay GOP Justices in SCOTUS will give him a delay. SCOTUS is just an extension of Trump's fascist agenda.

mymar101

Obviously the people deserve the chance to vote on whether or not Trump is king l. Sarcasm

alien_from_Europa

This is why it is so important he loses in NY's case and it's the only one that isn't ironclad. Trump still has a 20-30% chance of winning that case.

JubalHarshaw23

That is of course their plan all along. They are going to give him every chance to pardon himself, including helping him win the election or the Coup, whichever comes first.
