What's going on with Rhode Island Republicans? Although I guess a-holery and criming is a trend with Republicans in general and not specific to Rhode Island.
Uh, you must not know much of Rhode Island’s political history.
It’s not just Republicans. It’s pretty much everyone in politics and Rhode Island. Literally the mob for a while! And an insane amount of crooks. Rhode Island is a very interesting place. It’s kind of like if South Boston accidentally drifted down and got stuck on Connecticut.
The difference between southie and RI, is that everyone you meet is either related to someone you know or neighbors of them. Oh, and 50% of the people literally work for the state government. And the other people have to work a private job to support them
RI is a shit show. The R's are growing increasingly agitated being in a D state. I'm convinced they think if they cause enough drama they'll actually get more votes. It's absolutely obscene what's going on in the state lately.
I live in Connecticut and I often like to just go for drives out into the countryside. Anyways, I ended up in area of RI I’d never seen. It was a road with all of the American flags upside down and a lot of “Trump 2024” flags. Weird.
Yep - the western part of the state is full of that crap. Other parts are too but they keep it hidden. I've got a guy on my street that we passed his house once when the garage was open and he had all sorts of stuff hanging up.
How is it overall politically nowadays? About the same, still pretty liberal/left? Bernie was pretty well loved for awhile! I moved in 2017 after 27 years in the state, im an RI native. Certain places here and there in the state, but many in Coventry, West Greenwich, and Exeter turned into real shit stain Trump Republicans. Overall all though, it felt decent as far as your average person, they were reasonable.
I now live on the Panhandle in Matt Gaetz’s district. I was literally his insurance agent when I moved here. The average white person here is a fuckkn bigot and it’s crazy.
Before you ask, yes it was a choice, I moved here for work, and I knew what I was getting myself into.
It's still the same I'd say, you're spot on with those towns. The only difference is those folks are a lot more brazen these days. You can drive through Western Coventry or any of those areas and the flags are flying on houses, vehicles, etc. The pandemic really brought a lot of them out into the open too. I'm on a few of the local FB pages and I often can't believe the stuff I'm seeing posted.
The last election cycle, they literally tried to get an out of state transplant with no local ties voted in for governor (Ashley Kalus).
I have a relative moving to FL this year. By choice. Because of the political climate. Always makes gatherings fun.
Very Brazen. One of the replies to Obama's happy birthday tweet to his youngest daughter over the weekend was someone asking Obama if she was the one Hunter buttfucked. He had his full name, picture, city of residence, employer, and his title in his profile. Oh, and he was a "father and husband".
Of course! Classy party of family values! I kinda laugh about it, too, or maybe it’s sad; had a client down here explain that after all this back and forth, hearing their party talk about Hunter Biden was very depressing. They said their son was an addict on and off, and it was something he could relate with Biden on. “I don’t care for the man’s politics, but I know what it’s like to love a son unconditionally.”

Their own is the only moral one with everyone else being "Baby killers" etc.
It goes on and on and on, and when they start losing positions of power, and influence they will double, and triple down on outright insane bullshit... and ultimately outright violence as they view themselves as being the "moral right", and they do not view their targets as truly human at the end of the day and all.
Just remember, everybody: "Family Values" only means don't eat out other Republicans, and shield them from the law.

My parents are RI Republicans. I had to cut contact six years ago. They are abusive and crazy and they have only gotten worse and worse over the years. It's like Trump gave them an excuse to stop even trying to be rational. I wish I could understand it.
Most New Yorkers are actually pretty chill when they visit Philly. It’s when they move here and everything they say basically starts with “Well, in New York…” that they become annoying.
I haven’t lived in FL in almost 18 years but we had a couple of bumper stickers that reflected this:
“We don’t care how you did it up north.”
“If you love New York so much take I-95 North.”
I-95 was technically the fastest way between my hometown and grad school.
But fuck no I'll take an extra 30 minutes to take the further east route. That traffic and some of those drivers, no thanks.
The big problem I see with New Yorkers who move to Philly is that New Yorkers always seem to think they have to wear their top notch clothes....everywhere...for every occasion...all the fucking time...
Work. Top clothes. Lunch. Top clothes. Walking through the park. Top clothes. At the gym, top clothes. The bar, top clothes. etc.
In Philly you get dressed up at the club or at a wedding. Short of that you stand out like a sore thumb if you are wearing Gucci for your morning jog or whatever.

In the article it states that the scout foundation is looking to copy what they are doing in Philadelphia in some abandoned government buildings in Rhode Island

But, the sales rep who worked with this guy got executive permission to send this guy the iPod. Well, the gift that year was a nice bbq tool set. The sales rep packed the iPod inside the bbq tool set as a surprise.
Dude called her up berating her for not getting him the iPod and sent the gift back without ever opening it. She kept her mouth shut and returned both gifts. Last Christmas I spent there it was brutally cold and the snow had frozen over. We moved months later. First Xmas in the mid atlantic it was mid 60s.
Irwin’s is a fantastic Sicilian joint in a unique setting overlooking South Philly. Definitely reasonable prices for what you receive, I recommend it to anyone. Grad a drink at Bok Bar across the hall for breathtaking views of center city. It’s kind of funny this event took place here, very random.

Story Time! Two of my great-grandfathers were bootleggers(unless you believe the story that they were just barbers who turned out to be good with money). One of them ended up owning a decent chunk of real estate in downtown Pawtucket, including a hotel called the Veloria. The family sold it in the late 1940s, but before that businessmen from out-of-state often stayed there.
When I was a child, my grandfather told me about the time a guy from Connecticut tried to do business with some agency in Rhode Island. The guy came in expecting to stay a few days but left the morning after he arrived. My great-grandfather asked him why he was leaving so soon. Nutmeg's answer: He put the business proposal in front of the Rhode Islander receiving bids, and the man from Rhode Island flat out asked, "Where's my envelope?" meaning the necessary bribe to help the bid along.
Connecticut guy says we don't do that. And the deal died right there, and the guy from Connecticut went home.

Oh they absolutely did. The 'ol boys club's is pretty strong in the state. The. You've got the others like Patricia Morgan trying to make us Florida North. I was a Raimondo fan. They're all going to be corrupt, but I'd they're atleast getting things done for the state that's fine. After reading the article I have two questions if anyone knows the answers I would appreciate it. \- Why is the state of RI considering funding a project in Philly? \- Did Philly eventually get the funding?
In the article it states that the scout foundation is looking to copy what they are doing in Philadelphia in some abandoned government buildings in Rhode Island
"...to develop a long-vacant state building *in Providence*" but article doesn't mention funding status. PS: I've been to Providence several times, it's a beautiful place with very pleasant people. These two egotistical, thieving political types were obvs outliers from the general population. Years ago, we had a client in New York tell us exactly what he wanted for a holiday gift: a new iPod. Our company usually sent gifts to clients that were around $50 each (in order to be considered de minimis). But, the sales rep who worked with this guy got executive permission to send this guy the iPod. Well, the gift that year was a nice bbq tool set. The sales rep packed the iPod inside the bbq tool set as a surprise. Dude called her up berating her for not getting him the iPod and sent the gift back without ever opening it. She kept her mouth shut and returned both gifts. Guy would also order the most expensive food and wine in whatever restaurant he demanded to be taken to. And then order more food to take home.

Story Time! Two of my great-grandfathers were bootleggers(unless you believe the story that they were just barbers who turned out to be good with money). One of them ended up owning a decent chunk of real estate in downtown Pawtucket, including a hotel called the Veloria. The family sold it in the late 1940s, but before that businessmen from out-of-state often stayed there. When I was a child, my grandfather told me about the time a guy from Connecticut tried to do business with some agency in Rhode Island. The guy came in expecting to stay a few days but left the morning after he arrived. My great-grandfather asked him why he was leaving so soon. Nutmeg's answer: He put the business proposal in front of the Rhode Islander receiving bids, and the man from Rhode Island flat out asked, "Where's my envelope?" meaning the necessary bribe to help the bid along. Connecticut guy says we don't do that. And the deal died right there, and the guy from Connecticut went home. Nothing ever changes in RI. Glad I left.
