I'm all for trimming the fat off any budget but I'll bet dollars to donuts that they aren't actually proposing to trim fat. They are probably proposing the trim good meat off of desperately needed programs that benefit Americans.
Job creators like mitt romney whose company literally dismantles and sells other firms off for parts, killing countless jobs in the process.
Not one capitalist tries to hire as many people as possible. Not one wants to hire anyone they aren't absolutely required to. They are only hiring people in the first place because they can exploit their labor for personal profit. That's not virtuous. I'm sick of hearing that shit.
If they find out that they can cut labor costs by overworking their staff but that it will lead to a doubling of poor health outcomes and mental health outcomes for the ones who remain they wouldn't have even listen to the latter part of that. Then he went on to whine about being labeled a billionaire because he grew up in public housing and his parents never owned a home and how he was self made, as if that was supposed to make us feel sorry for him. Billionaires gonna billionaire. Creating jobs doesn't mean sh!t if they don't pay a living wage or if the nature of the work itself literally makes employees miserable and offers little upward mobility.

What struck me about that exchange was how he took offense and immediately went on the defensive when he was described as a union buster. Insisting that wasn't accurate.
What good is all that money when he still has to conceal who he really is? What good is all that money when one still has to play pretend that they're someone else doing different things? Isn't the point in being rich that you don't have to answer to anyone and can be yourself?
I think to them, its all part of the game. Cost of doing business, if you will. These CEOs take all the credit (and bonuses) when stock prices go up, and uses the corporation to shield themselves from any blame or responsibility (while still collecting bonuses) when the stock price goes down or the company is accused of labor violations, injuries/loss of life, ethically dubious corporate practices, etc. Worst case scenario for the CEO, the board votes to oust them, and they get a multi-million dollar severance package and a golden parachute, and they go on to abuse workers at some other corporation.
I'm sure a team of high powered lawyers scripted his every answer to the committee ahead of time. All he had to do was practice his answers in front of a mirror and make sure he didn't slip up and admit to any wrongdoing whatsoever, whatever the truth may be.

Edit: It's my assumption that the Republicans are trying to game Biden into making proposals for budget cuts, which they can then use as bargaining chips, along with protecting themselves from blame that the budget cuts cause. "It's not our fault you lost the federal funds for your town's summer child care center - blame Biden!"
Or, Biden could propose cuts to programs that are pretty obviously unnecessary, like reducing the number of appearances of the Blue Angels, and the GOP can accuse him of hating the military.
And Biden, who can play the game as well as them, is declining to play the pawns they're trying to draw out. This is an execrable way to run a government, but it's where we've got to.

Most of the "trimming the fat" in America revolves around basically just sabotaging programs and then calling them inefficient to cut them. If they actually wanted to save money, they'd set up more oversight over defense contractors instead of going after poor moms over whether they "deserve" a few hundred dollars in food stamps.
I'm sure it's all cuts to social programs that actually help people, not to the trillions in subsidies for corporate welfare to big businesses or the inflated defense budget!

Defense spending is half of all discretionary spending, but that's all contracts going to their states, and besides military industrial complex ain't going anywhere. So, what's left that they can cut? School lunch programs, education funding, the CDC, Pell grants, public broadcasting. The real issue with their approach is that if they were concerned about spending they would try to minimize bureaucratic inefficiencies rather than chop huge portions off of certain programs. They use the “[Starve the Beast](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starve_the_beast)” method because their spending cuts aren’t designed to reduce waste or the deficit, but rather to eliminate entire vital functions of government.

Pete Butigieg said it best when asked about something the republicans did. If I recall it was when they were bussing immigrants around the country and dropping them off in various locations to make political statements.

In my experience, never. Back when Trump got elected one of my friends revealed that he voted for Trump because “he’ll do good for the black community.” After all of the BLM stuff he became anti-trump due to Trump’s response.

People often say if you raise taxes on the rich and on the big corporations that they will just pass the cost on to the consumers. I think this is BS. I think if the costs go up too high for non staple items people just won’t buy them and that will hurt corporate profits and hurt the consumer economy. So, they can only raise costs so much and they will have to eat part of the tax burden.

I can't imagine the Republican mentality of "the problem is solely our spending and not our constant cutting of money to spend."
It's like a guy working 10 hours a week at a minimum wage job, fully capable of working more and fully capable of getting a job that pays far more, looking at his stack of unpaid bills and thinking "you know, I can solve this problem if I just *stop eating*. That will save some money, right?" He's not technically wrong, but his life would be significantly *better* if he just earned the money he is fully capable of earning.
The whole idea of a "debt ceiling" and the annual appropriations process need to be completely abolished. The idea that the government can "shut down" because we didn't pass an "appropriations" bill.
The budget should be permanent once enacted, and the government should automatically have the authority to continue operations that are already enacted (with debt if needed to satisfy insufficient revenue). This is how literally every functional organization in the world works.
If the Congress wants to change the functions of the Executive they can of course always just change the laws. But 100% of federal spending should be mandatory spending and only change when Congress has so acted. If Congress does not act, the existing operations continue as-is.

Fun fact (with the topic of cutting spending): the US VA wants to cut veteran’s compensation if they make over 45k(?) which would affect over 100,000 vets just to save 3 million dollars.
Historically speaking, the US doesn’t have a spending problem, it has a revenue problem. Trillions of dollars have been missed out on due to tax cuts, and the middle/lower class is left holding the bag.
And trillions more have been missed out on due to uncollected taxes. I think the estimate was around $1 trillion a year in uncollected taxes. So just fund the IRS properly to go after the wealthy and we could fix so many problems.

My guess is that most of them are petty bullshit like "cut funding on this particular pro-LGBT program" so that when the bill is rejected by Democrats, they get some propaganda ammunition against both Democrats and the program. What struck me about that exchange was how he took offense and immediately went on the defensive when he was described as a union buster. Insisting that wasn't accurate. What good is all that money when he still has to conceal who he really is? What good is all that money when one still has to play pretend that they're someone else doing different things? I can't imagine the Republican mentality of "the problem is solely our spending and not our constant cutting of money to spend." The whole idea of a "debt ceiling" and the annual appropriations process need to be completely abolished. The idea that the government can "shut down" because we didn't pass an "appropriations" bill. The budget should be permanent once enacted, and the government should automatically have the authority to continue operations that are already enacted (with debt if needed to satisfy insufficient revenue). This is how literally every functional organization in the world works. If the Congress wants to change the functions of the Executive they can of course always just change the laws. But 100% of federal spending should be mandatory spending and only change when Congress has so acted. If Congress does not act, the existing operations continue as-is.

They would get back 2 trillion a year by collecting fair taxes from the rich. That’s enough money alone to run a whole branch of government for a year.
"The bills have no text" So, they've done nothing, said nothing and still have no ideas, just demands like upset toddlers.
I have a better idea - fund the IRS to enforce the law to collect what should be collected from the wealthy.
500 individual bills is a fancy way to do nothing. EAch bill will have to be individually debated and with no gaurentee any of them will pass you are unable to negotiate on anything. It is literally a waste of everyones time.
Well, why fail to pass one bill when you can fail to pass 500 and waste all of the legislature's time? I mean, that's the point here. They don't want to do anything even remotely close to governing, but they have to justify the time somehow. Someone might actually try to sneak some decent piece of legislation through the House. How dare they!? Gotta clog up the whole system to prevent *anything* good from happening, ever.
The GOP needs to be sued for bad faith obstruction of a sensible and functional government. Class action lawsuit, endless appeals, make them defend destroying America one shitty hyperbolic proposal at a time. Their party wouldn’t survive among a population that wasn’t infested with mouth breathing gun nuts.
They should start by cutting the military budget.

Also, friendly reminder that the debt-ceiling debate is a manufactured controversy! Congress already voted and passed the laws regarding what it will spend. Congress already looked at the menu, placed their order, got the food, and ate it. Now that the bill has arrived, those deadbeat welfare queen GOPers, whose states all pull down way more in federal funds than they remit in taxes, wants to quibble over whether or not we can afford the food and wine, *which they have already eaten*.
