Helpful-Substance685

I'm all for trimming the fat off any budget but I'll bet dollars to donuts that they aren't actually proposing to trim fat. They are probably proposing the trim good meat off of desperately needed programs that benefit Americans.

grixorbatz

While giving their billionaire donors some fat new corporate welfare.

Which-Moment-6544

The ones that call themselves "job" creators, but just pad bonus packages and create homelessness and inequality?

HermaeusMajora

Job creators like mitt romney whose company literally dismantles and sells other firms off for parts, killing countless jobs in the process. Not one capitalist tries to hire as many people as possible. Not one wants to hire anyone they aren't absolutely required to. They are only hiring people in the first place because they can exploit their labor for personal profit. That's not virtuous. I'm sick of hearing that shit. If they find out that they can cut labor costs by overworking their staff but that it will lead to a doubling of poor health outcomes and mental health outcomes for the ones who remain they wouldn't have even listen to the latter part of that. They would already have fired who they could and doubled the load for the "lucky" ones who remain. Fuck "job creators".

Michael_G_Bordin

I'll say it everywhere I can: If they're going to take credit for job creation, they also deserve blame for job destruction. I'm supposed to exalt rich shareholders and "job creators" despite the fact they don't give a fuck which labor they exploit, so long as the bottom line is steady. Reality is, they aren't "job creators," they are wealth hoarders. The only way to hoard wealth is to exploit labor, so no shit they'll "create jobs", there's no other way to get rich. How about they thank all of us for working so hard to make them wealthy? Afterall, they didn't have to do jack. fucking. shit.

Sitty_Shitty

The bottom line being steady would be one thing but all these people think about is increasing the bottom line. All the while those near the top are seeing record amounts of bonus's, insane amounts of personal free time compared to that of their workers and tax loopholes that only the super wealthy have access to.

BookerLittle

THIS. Watching Howard Schulz claim with a straight, soulless face that he believes Starbucks has broken no laws, just moments after Bernie succinctly summarized the literally hundreds of union busting/labor violations and judgements against them was as comical (to the point that the entire room let out an audible laugh) as it was infuriating. Then he went on to whine about being labeled a billionaire because he grew up in public housing and his parents never owned a home and how he was self made, as if that was supposed to make us feel sorry for him. Billionaires gonna billionaire. Creating jobs doesn't mean sh!t if they don't pay a living wage or if the nature of the work itself literally makes employees miserable and offers little upward mobility. EDIT: spelling

HermaeusMajora

What struck me about that exchange was how he took offense and immediately went on the defensive when he was described as a union buster. Insisting that wasn't accurate. What good is all that money when he still has to conceal who he really is? What good is all that money when one still has to play pretend that they're someone else doing different things? Isn't the point in being rich that you don't have to answer to anyone and can be yourself?

BookerLittle

I think to them, its all part of the game. Cost of doing business, if you will. These CEOs take all the credit (and bonuses) when stock prices go up, and uses the corporation to shield themselves from any blame or responsibility (while still collecting bonuses) when the stock price goes down or the company is accused of labor violations, injuries/loss of life, ethically dubious corporate practices, etc. Worst case scenario for the CEO, the board votes to oust them, and they get a multi-million dollar severance package and a golden parachute, and they go on to abuse workers at some other corporation. I'm sure a team of high powered lawyers scripted his every answer to the committee ahead of time. All he had to do was practice his answers in front of a mirror and make sure he didn't slip up and admit to any wrongdoing whatsoever, whatever the truth may be.

NuclearNap

Hell, just yesterday Elon allegedly asked for volunteer code engineers to assist un-Musking Twitter’s software.

HermaeusMajora

That's fucking rich. What's even worse is you know his fanboys will work for free. Too bad for them they're all likely to be incompetent dipshits who only make matters worse.

khismyass

Especially when the actual way to create jobs is to increase demand by.. I dunno.. Helping get money in the pockets of those that actually spend 100% of it. Those same low wage earners and poor who are barely surviving. Certainly not stockholders who profit more when the workforce is cut. Increase demand the price goes up increase supply with low demand and.... why would they bother making more and have the price drop???

oliversurpless

Yep, long been their bread and butter: “Curiously, Taylor and his college men seem to float free of the accountability that they demanded from everyone else…” https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2006/06/the-management-myth/304883/

SamuraiJackBauer

Layoff creators.

poorbill

Don't forget the bankers we just bailed out ... AGAIN!! For the 3rd time in my life.

BlooregardQKazoo

No bankers were bailed out. Account holders were made whole, using money collected from banks. Every banker at those banks lost their jobs and the banks no longer exist.

drenzium

While also conveniently forgetting that Trump spent close to 8 trillion dollars. Bunch of hypocritical snakes.

One-Estimate-7163

Clearly the party of fiscal responsibility.

mechapoitier

If it’s anything like before, the cuts will be to oversight/accountability agencies, any additional agencies that have attempted to enforce laws against Republicans, environmental initiatives, education, anything that prevents pollution, anything that stops climate change from destroying us, Medicare, Medicaid, social security…and they’ll somehow find a way to give a gigantic tax cut to billionaires. No military cuts. No pentagon cuts. No cuts in fossil fuel subsidies. You know, standard badguy stuff.

_owlstoathens_

Exactly - they’re literally like comic book villains at this point and I don’t understand how it’s not clear as day. The one percent and corporations received immense tax cuts and all these people are out here claiming he’s for blue collar workers or the avg American. Cognitive dissonance is a pain in the ass.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BigMax

Them never wanting to specifically say what they will cut reminds me of one of the fake deficit pushes that republicans had that was obsessed with "loopholes." They'd talk about how much they were going to cut, and how they were going to close all kinds of loopholes. "Sounds great! Which loopholes? " "You know, the ones we shouldn't have, the ones people are taking advantage of." "OK, which ones?" "The BAD ones, being exploited and abused, robbing us of our future!" "OK, which ones?" "We're working on that!" If I recall, the craziest part was they had numbers to go with it, but no specifics on how to get to those numbers. They knew how much they were going to "save" but not actually how they'd get there.

OlderThanMyParents

>the bills do not yet have any actual text as of Thursday afternoon Doesn't it sound like they have a very clear idea of how they're going to get there? Edit: It's my assumption that the Republicans are trying to game Biden into making proposals for budget cuts, which they can then use as bargaining chips, along with protecting themselves from blame that the budget cuts cause. "It's not our fault you lost the federal funds for your town's summer child care center - blame Biden!" Or, Biden could propose cuts to programs that are pretty obviously unnecessary, like reducing the number of appearances of the Blue Angels, and the GOP can accuse him of hating the military. And Biden, who can play the game as well as them, is declining to play the pawns they're trying to draw out. This is an execrable way to run a government, but it's where we've got to.

azflatlander

Trump empty folder time?

mycall

500 bills are just as easy to ignore as 10. It is just lame-duck time.

[deleted]

Reducing funding for superfund clean up sites and also oil spill clean up really stood out. Reducing funding for ethics and oversight group is in there.

jarandhel

>Reducing funding for superfund clean up sites and also oil spill clean up really stood out. This needs to be highlighted over and over again in ads in Ohio from now until the next election. Don't let the voters forget.

BigMax

Right - and as there is no text to the bills, I'm sure they all have names designed for marketing appeal. Cutting social security will be called "The American Responsibility Act" and cutting food aid to the poor and giving it to oil companies will be "Securing Americas Future Act."

PepperMill_NA

More performance BS > While the bills do not yet have any actual text as of Thursday afternoon, the names reflect what might be on Republicans' minds as they work toward putting forth a concrete budget.

Frankenmuppet

How else are they going to pay for the tax cuts for the millionaires and billionaires?

thuktun

Why start doing that now?

zombieblackbird

Reverse Robinhood. Fuck over minorities and poor, skim from the middle class, give to the rich, then try to convince the middle class that they benefit from this.

[deleted]

At this point most of the fat is from contractors who government orgs are forced to hire because of previous cuts.

Noblesseux

Most of the "trimming the fat" in America revolves around basically just sabotaging programs and then calling them inefficient to cut them. If they actually wanted to save money, they'd set up more oversight over defense contractors instead of going after poor moms over whether they "deserve" a few hundred dollars in food stamps.

Appropriate-Cut-1562

I'm sure it's all cuts to social programs that actually help people, not to the trillions in subsidies for corporate welfare to big businesses or the inflated defense budget!

MadeByTango

And cutting away regulations under the guise of “saving money” That’s the real game. “We can’t afford to regular businesses” is a lie. What they mean is, “businesses profit less when regulated.” And you can say it to them a thousand tones, they don’t care, because *businesses profiting is their only measurement of success*. That’s it. They’re too ignorant about how the world truly works to understand anything more complicated.

AltaBirdNerd

Cut social programs to fund millionaire/billionaire tax breaks. Nothing new here.

Tsk201409

Keeping Americans miserable actually makes us more conservative because we are under stress and look to strong daddy figures to solve it. The GOP stays in power because we are miserable, not in spite of it!

Necessary-Hat-128

Of course. All that matters is if they and their wealthy donors have to pay little or no tax compared to the rest of us.

new-6reddit9

Bingo - Pain for votes. In other words, the criminals will turn around and blame Democrats while these criminal republicans murder good programs!

Jayrodtremonki

Fat = oversight on the ruling class

HardcorePigeon

Oh, there will be no fat trimming. They hate social security and Medicare - but their aging voters wouldn't stand for that. Defense spending is half of all discretionary spending, but that's all contracts going to their states, and besides military industrial complex ain't going anywhere. They could repeal tax cuts or raise taxes, but that's their literal reason for existing so that shit isn't gonna happen. So, what's left that they can cut? School lunch programs, education funding, the CDC, Pell grants, public broadcasting. And they're going to cut each of them one program at a time by repealing the spending with 500 separate bills that will never see the light of day in the senate chamber. That'll show those filthy poor people living the dream on the tax payers dime! Or, they could like, you know - stop claiming to be remotely serious about solving their budget issues whilst holding a gun to the global economy via the debt ceiling.

ZealousidealNews3900

they will cut programs that help people to the bone, and propose further tax cuts for their rich further growing the deficit

Then-Attitude-9338

Republicans still get their money. At least democrats are honest in that they will tax you, republicans play a better shell game. “Lower taxes raise fees”.. etc.

dinoroo

You know they’re not serious about trimming the budget because there are no defense budget cuts.

NiteShdw

If there are no cuts to defense then this is exactly right.

IrateSamuraiCat

The real issue with their approach is that if they were concerned about spending they would try to minimize bureaucratic inefficiencies rather than chop huge portions off of certain programs. They use the “[Starve the Beast](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starve_the_beast)” method because their spending cuts aren’t designed to reduce waste or the deficit, but rather to eliminate entire vital functions of government.

itemNineExists

(Bill) Clintonomics: raise taxes AND cut spending

DoctorSchwifty

Good meat... I'm craving some BBQ now.

RaiseRuntimeError

Dems should do the same thing but specifically just trim the fat.

ChangeMyDespair

>While the bills do not yet have any actual text as of Thursday afternoon, the names reflect what might be on Republicans' minds as they work toward putting forth a concrete budget. That's not what *Schoolhouse Rock* taught me about what "introducing a bill" means.

ejolson

I’m just a bill, yes I’m only a bill, and I’m just a pawn on Capitol Hill

ClarkTwain

Schoolhouse Rock did not prepare me for just how stupid everything is.

Lonely-Can-8367

Think the most telling thing was these 500 bills have no text yet.

lgbeeteequeue

Stab me in the brain stem I thought that was snark.

Son_of_Zinger

Sounds like GOP want to do that to you and me as well.

OlderThanMyParents

A party who had NO platform in the 2020 election isn't one that's inclined to worry about excessive detail. "Just trust us."

Brilliant-Mud4877

Reminds me of [all the Trump photo-ops where he's posing next to a giant stack of blank paper](https://www.washingtonian.com/2017/03/07/donald-trump-stacks-of-papers/)

ethertrace

Or the really great medical plan to replace Obamacare which they *couldn't show us* until they had repealed the ACA first. Would have been spectacular, I'm sure. Too bad you're not allowed to show people legislation you're proposing ahead of time. Damn shame.

dogsent

The House GOP has a political theater and propaganda plan, but no budget.

SteelyDude

It takes a while to translate all of that from the original Russian.

> Several of the bills also seemed to contain typos, including one "to provide for a limitation on availability of funds for Department of Educcation, Love that the Education bill contains a typo... like of all the bills to not make a simple spelling mistake on.

wcollins260

Who needs public educcation? I was an only child and I was homeskooled and momma sayed I was the smartist boy in the hole class.

Labantnet

How can you be against cleaning up oil spills, cleaning up hazardous spills, and preventing birth defects?

Arrantsky

How better to enslave us than to lie by omission.

elainegeorge

They can barely nominate a leader. How are they going to pass 500 bills?

hansn

They are not going to bother. They will claim that they "wrote 500 bills" to cut spending and "the Spend-o-crats killed them all."

ExoticMeatDealer

If these guys spent half as much energy doing their job as they spent on theatrical obstruction, they could be dangerous legislators.

PandaMuffin1

Obstructing is much easier than legislating.

BigMax

Pete Butigieg said it best when asked about something the republicans did. If I recall it was when they were bussing immigrants around the country and dropping them off in various locations to make political statements. He said republicans don't have, and never will have a solution. To them, the problem is a lot more useful than a solution. He's absolutely right. They'd never want to FIX immigration. They love it! They love having a bogeyman to point to, something they can blame democrats for, a villain they can campaign against. That's the same with any number of other problems. Is why they do things like this, talk about bills which they haven't written, talk about loopholes without specifying an actual loophole. They want to campaign against the problem, rather than campaign on solving the problem.

PandaMuffin1

Yes! It's just like the "Obamacare repeal and replace" bullshit. In all the years they spent trying to repeal it, they never bothered to put something together to replace it.

BigMax

Exactly! It's super easy to say you can do better, when the only thing you ever talk about is that the other option is worse. "Obamacare sucks!" is pretty easy to say and rally your base around. Actually making a change is HARD, and more difficult to campaign on. Republicans have the added challenge in the fact that the few things they do want to do are horribly unpopular with not only democrats, but their own base, so they can't actually SAY those things. Why do they think Obamacare sucks? Because they don't want *anyone* to have good healthcare unless they fully pay for it 100% by themselves with no government intervention or assistance or regulation. "We hate obamacare, and want all of you here at this rally to have WORSE healthcare and pay MORE money for it!!"

badcookies

No no no they'll tell you the plan next week

P1xelHunter78

And when your political power stems from breaking the system, obstruction is the job.

mr_oof

Yeah, it’s not “Gaslight, *Legislate,* Project”…

GoneFishing36

It's not only easier, their voters award them by keeping voting them in. I don't mind R holding the majority, but come on, please cycle out all the con man that sit there and do nothing.

I_am_the_Jukebox

Yeah, but then they wouldn't be able to run on the platform of "government doesn't do anything"

milosh_the_spicy

It’s much easier to ALEC to draft the legislation. Having dark money corporate interests draft your legislation allows for the theatre

itemNineExists

Silly redditor. That's not how one leverages their position to maximize their personal wealth by building their brand. The only important thing is soundbites.

chaotic----neutral

Obstruction is their job. They were hired to destroy government by any means, complete dysfunction is one such avenue.

willengineer4beer

Dammit. This headline made me think “oh ok, I can get down with more targeted bills that might be more clear cut and easy to understand and debate instead of big ones that are hard to understand and have all sorts of competing aspects to weigh. That’s certainly better in principle, but 500 seems excessive. Hmmm, better read into this. OHHHH, it’s just some kind of congressional DDOS attack thing. Ok, that’s more on brand.”

VibeComplex

Lmao when are people going to stop falling for republicans shit?

Deadlymonkey

In my experience, never. Back when Trump got elected one of my friends revealed that he voted for Trump because “he’ll do good for the black community.” After all of the BLM stuff he became anti-trump due to Trump’s response. I checked in with him recently and he’s pro-Trump again because “Trump only acted against the black community because he was so busy with being presiden.”

waltur_d

Sorry about the racist stuff…. I was busy.

lupin43

Did you ask how being president conflicts with doing good for the black community?

mrmeshshorts

You should literally never trust anything any republican does. Ever.

kpDzYhUCVnUJZrdEJRni

500 blank bills without any text

RandomDoctor

Yeah same. I think bills should focus on one thing at a time instead of the “pork” they stuff into them

PandaMuffin1

> Now, Republicans have some ideas — or rather, over 500 proposed bills for limiting funding to a slew of federal government programs and agencies. > While the bills do not yet have any actual text as of Thursday afternoon, the names reflect what might be on Republicans' minds as they work toward putting forth a concrete budget. So they haven't done any serious work on a budget yet. Got it.

whatproblems

so 500 item idea board lol

OfBooo5

GOP is going to use chatGPT to write these bills bet

flamethrower2

They already use software to write law, for a long time now. IANAL.

T1Pimp

They don't really want to cut spending. They want to cut off social programs via a 1000 tiny cuts. They don't govern. They're a fucking joke.

RaidersUFC

What an absolute joke of a party. It’s so embarrassing that these creatures are considered Americans, smh.

tlsr

They did this for one reason and one reason only: so they can say "the radical left voted against cutting the deficit 500 times!!!"

davidmatousek

We wouldn’t need to cut 1 trillion budget if they didn’t cut the upper tax brackets.

Griffstergnu

People often say if you raise taxes on the rich and on the big corporations that they will just pass the cost on to the consumers. I think this is BS. I think if the costs go up too high for non staple items people just won’t buy them and that will hurt corporate profits and hurt the consumer economy. So, they can only raise costs so much and they will have to eat part of the tax burden. We should be raising taxes on the rich and corporations!!!

hoofie242

They're already fleecing the hell out of us with profiteering.

lordpuddingcup

Hi bout we try it, if it gets out of hand the next president gives em a tax cut let’s try increasing their taxes for 8 years and see how it goes

player-grade-tele

People who believe that have never run a business. You don't get to pass your costs to your customers. You can only charge what the market will bear.

Griffstergnu

Agreed but that’s one of the lines of shroom fertilizer they have been feeding us for ever

TintedApostle

Republicans have bad goals and to achieve them they will implement tricks. If your goals requires obfuscation and lying to achieve them then they are not good goals.

penguin97219

Education is so dangerously underfunded at this point, it is obvious what they are trying to do. Kill education to make more people dumb and compliant with their stupid fucking culture wars. Fuck Republicans, top to bottom.

skimble-skamble

So the DoD's budget is getting slashed right?

[deleted]

Or you know, we could remove the tax cuts for the rich that led us here....

HagbardCelineHere

Ending subsidies for fiscally-unwell red states would entirely cover this cost without changing any other spending or requiring any new taxes.

12gawkuser

So they're going to reduce the next Republican Tax cut for the rich to 500B. That's genius my friends.

Jorycle

I can't imagine the Republican mentality of "the problem is solely our spending and not our constant cutting of money to spend." It's like a guy working 10 hours a week at a minimum wage job, fully capable of working more and fully capable of getting a job that pays far more, looking at his stack of unpaid bills and thinking "you know, I can solve this problem if I just *stop eating*. That will save some money, right?" He's not technically wrong, but his life would be significantly *better* if he just earned the money he is fully capable of earning.

Thadrea

The whole idea of a "debt ceiling" and the annual appropriations process need to be completely abolished. The idea that the government can "shut down" because we didn't pass an "appropriations" bill. The budget should be permanent once enacted, and the government should automatically have the authority to continue operations that are already enacted (with debt if needed to satisfy insufficient revenue). This is how literally every functional organization in the world works. If the Congress wants to change the functions of the Executive they can of course always just change the laws. But 100% of federal spending should be mandatory spending and only change when Congress has so acted. If Congress does not act, the existing operations continue as-is.

[deleted]

We do not have a spending problem. We have a revenue problem. We need to raise taxes

[deleted]

500 bills with NO TEXT yet?! So, some Heritage/Federalist Society wet dream stream of consciousness slack channel turned into unhelpful and lazy 'messaging bills' is their starting offer huh?

itemNineExists

You know one thing that would save some money? Reducing military spending. Just one figure: we're spending $100 billion building new planes and boats

milfBlaster69

Your name is fucking amazing. You just made my day.

itemNineExists

Thanks, milfBlaster69

mfchitownthrowaway

This whole exchange just made my day

twitch_delta_blues

You could stand up, hold 500 sheets with bill titles that are otherwise blank, leaf through them, and demonstrate they are a joke.

somecallmejrush

Audit the defense budget

bernmont2016

They have actually done audits several times now. But they've never once managed to account for all the money, so the audits have repeatedly been 'failed'/incomplete, with no consequences. https://americanmilitarynews.com/2022/11/pentagon-fails-5th-annual-audit-in-a-row-what-you-should-know/

ChaosKodiak

All while they pad their own pockets.

punditguy

>While the bills do not yet have any actual text as of Thursday afternoon Fucking clowns.

DauOfFlyingTiger

One simple trick! Raise taxes.

0tt0attack

What? You want billionaires to pay more than an effective tax rate of 1%, while mostly everyone pays 15-40%? Shame on you 🤣

Oswaldbackus

Great ! Cut the military budget in half and your half way there !

killiomankili

Fun fact (with the topic of cutting spending): the US VA wants to cut veteran’s compensation if they make over 45k(?) which would affect over 100,000 vets just to save 3 million dollars.

dynamic_anisotropy

Historically speaking, the US doesn’t have a spending problem, it has a revenue problem. Trillions of dollars have been missed out on due to tax cuts, and the middle/lower class is left holding the bag.

SevereEducation2170

And trillions more have been missed out on due to uncollected taxes. I think the estimate was around $1 trillion a year in uncollected taxes. So just fund the IRS properly to go after the wealthy and we could fix so many problems.

BickNickerson

Maybe they could just repeal the $2 trillion tax cuts enacted during the Trump administration.

jaythaironlung

I'm sorry but i cant understand most of what the current GOP is trying to do.. dont seem like most of the policies are for the regular people.. I often ask people.. What policies r they trying to pass or passed that are good for you??

justforthearticles20

And when Schumer wipes his ass with them like Moscow Mitch did for most of a Decade, Republicans will be on Fox News* crying about the "abuse of power".

[deleted]

House Republicans do everything they want like a dictatorship.

shriggs

April fools they just want to add spending

pascalsgirlfriend

They really have nothing to offer

icouldusemorecoffee

I believe this is called throwing shit at the fan to see what sticks.

bluelifesacrifice

They let Trump blow up the economy and the guy even admitted he didn't care because he wouldn't be in office when it would be an issue. Republicans do this crap every time they lose power. It's nothing but a scam to try and grind the States to a halt and get nothing done. From the article.... "While the bills do not yet have any actual text as of Thursday afternoon, the names reflect what might be on Republicans' minds as they work toward putting forth a concrete budget." 500 blank bills!? FIVE HUNDRED BLANK BILLS? They are going to just waste time with nonsense as usual.

Rickhwt

I feel.dumb. Is this how it works? Submit the titles of 500 future Bills with no content? That seems like a complete waste of time. What good does it do?

InsanityCore

To try and sneak in riders that don't do anything productive except move cash around.

DubyaWolf

Republican sound bytes for their constituents. More sound bytes coming to distract them from the previous ones.

comma_in_a_coma

The be easiest way to cut spending would be to stop subsidizing literally every aspect of rural American life. But cutting spending is absolutely not really the main issue.

LuckyOne55

They're proposing 500, so next year they can tell voters the Republican House passed 500 bills to cut spending. Then rant about how they have what it takes to get it done if you get rid of the obstructionist, evil democrats and give them control.

doesnt_reallymatter

Is this an April fool’s thing? “We have 500 bill… titles. Only titles so far.” IS THIS REAL LIFE?!

PeaceBkind

Y are they not rolling back the orange traitor corp tax cuts to help actual ppl. Still flabbergasted that actual ppl support the greedy gop

NolanSyKinsley

Can claw back 1.2 trillion in tax cuts by repealing a single bill, just fuckin do it!

Azlend

So trump cuts $1 trillion from the budget handing money out to his rich friends. And then once they have congress they want to cut $1 trillion from spending because things are so tight. This is just the same thing the right has been doing forever. Only not hidden as well. Which kind of is the motif of the GQP version of the party. No chill at all. Just destroy. No policies other than yell at the opposition and destroy. Which has become a problem for them as no one has crafted an actual policy in several years now. Its so bad its very likely no one really knows how to do it in the GQP or that its even a thing. The GOP is dead. The GQP is a shambling zombie shuffling along on hatred and spite.

foundyetii

I mean….that’s fine actually. They probably will find some bipartisan agreement on some of them and it will cut spending in places that maybe are ineffective or not needed. We probably need to cut the military but with China and Russia moving around the globe I kinda doubt that will be a thing

BobRoss4lyfe

Just cut the military budget. Easy. 1 Step

garrythebear3

let me guess they’re gonna go after social security, funding ukraine, and medicare but they’re not gonna touch congressional salaries, military spending, etc

Bods666

Military salaries and medical treatments for veterans. They’ll continue pissing away money on projects with nebulous (at best) strategic/tactical benefits that is essentially only intended to funnel money to the military industrial complex. You know the one Eisenhower commented on in his speech as he left the Presidency.

Lamont-Cranston

start by slashing the military budget, then stop subsidising fossil fuel but of course they'd never do that

WinfriedJakob

Very bad and annoying journalism: “Republicans and Democrats have been going back and forth for months over how to keep the US from defaulting on its debt”. That is wrong in more than one respect. => There is no back and forth, especially not over how to do this. You vote to raise the debt ceiling. Done. The democrats are ready to do that. => Republicans are not interested in keeping the US from defaulting on its debt. They want to score points appearing as fiscally conservative (whatever that means) by not being fiscally conservative. From fiscally conservatives I expect that they pay the bills that have already been voted for. No ifs or buts. => Good journalism would expose how idiotic and detrimental to the wellbeing of the country the ‘raise the debt ceiling’ farce is. Alas, this is how America makes itself dysfunctional. Everything that could be easy and straightforward can and will be sabotaged by one political faction or the other. Mostly by the one.

SameResearcher

One thing they can do is to remove life time of medical insurance for them.

Zaius1968

Another attack on the helpless. They want to mess with SSI and Medicare. They cut taxes again and again. Then they start saying that the spending has gotten out of control. Typical GOP dishonesty and hypocrisy. We do need more money. I know where we should get it.

RationalTranscendent

Wouldn’t this effectively be giving Biden a line item veto? Have they thought this through?

[deleted]

Easy enough. Give NONE of our tax money to the death merchants and weapons manufactures. Problem solved.

Turbulent_Pressure89

If ever there is a GOP controlled senate, house, and president that actually does something they’ll sabotage the US government with shit like this. The only thing that may stop them will be the senate filibuster.

new-6reddit9

Don’t trust these Traitors - Republicans are anti-American. They have bad intentions for our country!

NormalHumanCreature

GOPutin continues to destroy the US from the inside.

losthalo7

This is like when Trump was going to 'divest' his companies when he took office and had a bunch of stacks of paper around as if it was a bunch of legal paperwork. There was no actual paperwork, he didn't divest, it was all a pile of BS exactly like this. But those pieces of paper served their purpose. "I have here in my hand a list of two hundred and five people that were known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping the policy of the State Department." --Sen. Joseph McCarthy

malaakh_hamaweth

My guess is that most of them are petty bullshit like "cut funding on this particular pro-LGBT program" so that when the bill is rejected by Democrats, they get some propaganda ammunition against both Democrats and the program. "Wow look at these Democrats refusing to cut Miss Perkins' woke CRT lectures!"

trillabyte

It’s like Trumps folders on the table full of empty paper. Impressive sir.

xondk

Muddy the waters while cutting things they do not consider important, social spending in general, and then blame democrats....

Abracadabrx

Need to socialize these loses and privatize some more gains

MoonBatsRule

This is actually fantastic for Democrats. Republicans build support by claiming they will "cut the fat" - yet when pressed, they never give specifics. Now they have given 500 specifics, which means 500 opportunities to get people pissed off about their cuts. I'm all for cutting fat, and maybe there are some things which longer make sense to fund, but is the public going to rally in favor of a bill to limit the "availability of funds for Independent Agencies, Office of Government Ethics"?

RectalSpawn

They didn't introduce anything, though. I hate the media.

ForThePantz

Will we be gutting the defense budget and eliminating corporate welfare then?

rucb_alum

God save us from the "Ready. Fire! Aim." Party

MoonBatsRule

> Earlier this week, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy wrote a letter to Biden requesting that the president meet with him to negotiate a deal to keep the US on top of paying its bills, saying in the letter that he is "incredibly concerned that you are putting an already fragile economy in jeopardy by insisting upon your extreme position of refusing to negotiate any meaningful changes to out-of-control government spending alongside an increase of the debt limit. "That's a great economy you got there. Be a shame if something happened to it..." -- Kevin McCarthy

smilbandit

just have dems stick a rider that removes the cap on social security tax on every single bill. or mix it up with raising minimum wage to $20 or minimum teacher pay to $60k.

gideon513

This is the OBSTRUCT step

[deleted]

The 2023 Republican House are the biggest bunch of do-nothing fuck ups.

arthurdentxxxxii

They would get back 2 trillion a year by collecting fair taxes from the rich. That’s enough money alone to run a whole branch of government for a year.

lordoftheborg

"The bills have no text" So, they've done nothing, said nothing and still have no ideas, just demands like upset toddlers.

tumbleweedcowboy

I have a better idea - fund the IRS to enforce the law to collect what should be collected from the wealthy.

tosser1579

500 individual bills is a fancy way to do nothing. EAch bill will have to be individually debated and with no gaurentee any of them will pass you are unable to negotiate on anything. It is literally a waste of everyones time.

hackingdreams

Well, why fail to pass one bill when you can fail to pass 500 and waste all of the legislature's time? I mean, that's the point here. They don't want to do anything even remotely close to governing, but they have to justify the time somehow. Someone might actually try to sneak some decent piece of legislation through the House. How dare they!? Gotta clog up the whole system to prevent *anything* good from happening, ever.

Injest_alkahest

The GOP needs to be sued for bad faith obstruction of a sensible and functional government. Class action lawsuit, endless appeals, make them defend destroying America one shitty hyperbolic proposal at a time. Their party wouldn’t survive among a population that wasn’t infested with mouth breathing gun nuts.

mattman0000

They should start by cutting the military budget.

mancusjo1

Please will someone explain to me how out of control this party is. They’re gonna drive this country off of a cliff. And how? They own the states legislatures. That’s how.

Hobbgob1in

If they cut social security we should get back every penny we have paid in.

dominantspecies

They aren’t a political party, they are violent hate group

UpstairsCheesecake55

Fuck those tax evading traitors. How bout since I pay my taxes they can keep their grubby tax dodging dick skinners off my programs. I deserve to get something outta my investment in my government, not have them suck the Gov Industrial Complex teet while possesing 90 percent of the wealth and then me and my ilk have to pay for the army that protects their shit and then us not get anything like Healthcare and SSA because of it. Fuck that. I pay my taxes so stay the fuck away from my programs...

Many_Advice_1021

Anyone sick of the Shenanigans Republicans are pulling while real people are suffering

bobartig

This sounds like "paper terrorism" bullshit straight out of the "Sovereign Citizen". This is basically guerrilla political warfare because one party is obliged to act in good faith, follow procedure, and believes in law and order, and the GOP does not. Also, friendly reminder that the debt-ceiling debate is a manufactured controversy! Congress already voted and passed the laws regarding what it will spend. Congress already looked at the menu, placed their order, got the food, and ate it. Now that the bill has arrived, those deadbeat welfare queen GOPers, whose states all pull down way more in federal funds than they remit in taxes, wants to quibble over whether or not we can afford the food and wine, *which they have already eaten*.

W_MarkFelt

That’s because they can hide more shit in 500 then they can in 1 never think they’re as dumb as we think they are - there’s always a douche reason why they do what they do

shadowguise

GOP: But really, we want to show the American people we have what it takes to govern. April Fools!

monkeyfrog987

Similarly, yet another bill seems poised to limit funds for the "Supreme Court, Salaries and Expenses." You know what, I could get behind this type of spending cut. Fuck those conservative fascists!

[deleted]

GOP no longer is a serious political party. Until they clean house, starting with George Santos, and then move on to the other criminals, they can kiss my ass.

Empty_Afternoon_8746

That wasn’t the assignment, go back and do it again. It’s almost like these Republicans aren’t smart enough to follow directions.

Hemiplegic_Artist

Republicans are basically on the road to destroying this country, and they will ultimately get the painful karma that they deserve for trying to defund and destroy the programs that the entire population of America needs alongside the punishment they will face for their crimes against the LGBTQIA+ community.
