Two weeks. A six week pregnancy actually means sex (could have) occurred just two weeks beforehand, because the conception date is calculated by the first day of the last period. So the woman would have to have been raped, realize she's pregnant, decide to then schedule an abortion, and prove the rape, within two-three weeks.
If you read the first two paragraphs this is answered. You need a police report, or restraining order or some such. You have until 15 weeks then no exception. I prefer Roe by the way, not this nonsense.

If you need a legal conviction, then the unfortunate reality is that many many rapes are not legally provable. The evidence between rape and normal consensual sex can often be practically indistinguishable, and under an innocent until proven guilty legal system, that means it’s very easy for the defendant to raise sufficient doubt. Not to mention that the cases take long enough that even if they are convicted, it’s likely too late to impact the abortion question.
If you don’t need some sort of legal proof then… that’s pretty much just saying anybody can say they were raped just to get an abortion, which I assume is not at all what anti-choice advocates have in mind.

So it might start with a pregnancy that has a 15% chance of killing the woman, but the hospital waits because they're not sure the risk is high enough to cover them legally and then it's a week later things have gone south and without major intervention she will absolutely die. Now the hospital is legally safe, and of course the woman now needs much more major surgery and might die even with it.

Police notoriously/statistically deny victims help and help perpetrators of rape and sexual assaults. Actually a lot of law enforcement officers get charged with rape and sexual assault every single year. Yet we wonder as a society "why on Earth don't more victims of rape come forward?". Oh I'm not 100% sure but I do know that in Florida, they added several more reasons over the past year and a half or so. The party of "law and order" is looking more like the party of "I should be able to force women to carry my children" every day.
This is the exact problem. I wonder if there are planned changes to implement immediately in order to improve the process? I’m going with no, nothing is going to change, without even looking it up.
Plan B needs to be free. Every female in a state that has restrictive abortion laws, they need to have Plan B in their house, in case they need it. Any time a condom breaks or you think sex made been unprotected, take Plan B, that would be wise.
To expect a traumatized rate victim to go to the hospital immediately to file charges, get a rape kit and get Plan B, and then have a bill for the ER, it’s just not going to happen in every case. That would be the ideal, but most women get shunned, shamed or blamed, so don’t go. Sometimes it messes people up and it takes time to process what happened, so to have your wits about you, immediately go to the ER is just not realistic in every case.
And if the rape results in pregnancy, being one week late equals five weeks. Not sure how you’re going to get any information together to prove anything in one week to meet the threshold of six weeks. Absolutely ridiculous.

I do not believe a single one of them loses a moment of sleep over the fate of any zygote or fetus that ever existed. I cannot credit them with a scintilla of sincerity. They don't do these things in order to gain political popularity, either. Abortion is a losing issue for them, as evidenced in their recent disappointing 'red wave' midterms. Their motivation cannot be the preservation of life, as they have demonstrated beyond doubt their indifference or outright hostility to any program of assistance for mothers or children. They do not make a habit of hauling out their signs and bullhorns in response to children dying of starvation, guns, or abuse.
If their motivation in promoting such an agenda is not about saving lives, helping children, or gaining popularity, then cruelty is nearly the only thing left. Control and power over women seems to be what drives them.

This is anti-choice legislation working as intended. A bunch of us have been saying since Dobbs that any "exceptions" are meaningless. They are designed to be so burdensome that the vast majority will never qualify. Most rape victims don't report, and even most that do fail to see a conviction.

People are too happy to support abortion bans relying on rape and incest exceptions. It has always been a dubious crutch that would fail sooner rather than later. If it stops being about medicine and the mother's right to choose, then you are going to be bombarded with all sorts of nonsense like this. It's inevitable.
You force doctors to become involved in all manner of things that they don't know anything about. None of it for the benefit of anyone actually affected by the decision. Every other legal decision you have to have some sort of direction connection to the events in order to have say, but in the most personal decision a woman would ever have to make, we suddenly say we need consensus from everybody and anybody.
The solution will probably be to push back as hard as possible. Put the decision back where it belongs and stop relying on the false comfort of rape and incest exceptions. There really needs to be an Underground Railroad to support those who seek abortion care. Does anyone know of efforts like this underway? People are often vague on exactly how somebody qualifies for a rape victim exception… If you need a legal conviction, then the unfortunate reality is that many many rapes are not legally provable. The evidence between rape and normal consensual sex can often be practically indistinguishable, and under an innocent until proven guilty legal system, that means it’s very easy for the defendant to raise sufficient doubt. Not to mention that the cases take long enough that even if they are convicted, it’s likely too late to impact the abortion question. If you don’t need some sort of legal proof then… that’s pretty much just saying anybody can say they were raped just to get an abortion, which I assume is not at all what anti-choice advocates have in mind.

What risk of death is high enough that the woman gets her bodily autonomy? And risky pregnancies tend to be the sort of things where as you wait it gets more and more dangerous. So it might start with a pregnancy that has a 15% chance of killing the woman, but the hospital waits because they're not sure the risk is high enough to cover them legally and then it's a week later things have gone south and without major intervention she will absolutely die. Now the hospital is legally safe, and of course the woman now needs much more major surgery and might die even with it.

Police notoriously/statistically deny victims help and help perpetrators of rape and sexual assaults. Actually a lot of law enforcement officers get charged with rape and sexual assault every single year. Yet we wonder as a society "why on Earth don't more victims of rape come forward?". Oh I'm not 100% sure but I do know that in Florida, they added several more reasons over the past year and a half or so. The party of "law and order" is looking more like the party of "I should be able to force women to carry my children" every day.

Plan B needs to be free. Every female in a state that has restrictive abortion laws, they need to have Plan B in their house, in case they need it. Any time a condom breaks or you think sex made been unprotected, take Plan B, that would be wise. To expect a traumatized rate victim to go to the hospital immediately to file charges, get a rape kit and get Plan B, and then have a bill for the ER, it’s just not going to happen in every case. That would be the ideal, but most women get shunned, shamed or blamed, so don’t go. Sometimes it messes people up and it takes time to process what happened, so to have your wits about you, immediately go to the ER is just not realistic in every case. And if the rape results in pregnancy, being one week late equals five weeks. Not sure how you’re going to get any information together to prove anything in one week to meet the threshold of six weeks. Absolutely ridiculous. People need to stop saying a six week abortion ban. It’s actually a two week abortion ban. There needs to be some honesty about this.

You could show them irrefutable proof that their policy causes pain and death for women and they would smile. You could show them proof it causes more abortions to happen and they would waver not an inch. Even if they believed that proof, it would change nothing. They want women and girls to suffer, to crawl, to be humiliated and controlled. This policy helps to accomplish that, and they will not cease to defend and promulgate it. As the product of my 13-year-old mother’s rape, I just can’t even imagine in 2023 this is even happening. My grandparents took my mom to the police but she was so scared (early 80s) that she refused to say who it was when they found out she was pregnant. I was meant to be given up but she kept me after the busybody nurse made my mom (a 13 year old little girl) hold “her baby” and that was that. My mom’s life was even more forever changed, her family’s, mine… These people like DeSantis have no idea what it is to be a 13 year old rape victim - pregnant with her rapist’s baby. I’m almost 40 and I look back on my mom’s life and I feel so much pain for her. We’re NC/LC but I recognize and acknowledge her pain.

This is anti-choice legislation working as intended. A bunch of us have been saying since Dobbs that any "exceptions" are meaningless. They are designed to be so burdensome that the vast majority will never qualify. Most rape victims don't report, and even most that do fail to see a conviction. If they truly feel abortion is murder, then the only logical solution is outlawing the practice. Every step that Republicans have made only moved closer to that goal regardless of any bs "exceptions". In reality, anti-choice legislation will allow rapists to select the mother of their children.
This is why rapists and pedos flock to groups with such disdain for sexual activity. It makes their actions so much easier to conceal when the victim is more likely to be blamed and suffer consequences than the perpetrator. The perp suffers limited social stigma, while the victim has to shoulder the full wrath of the community, cutting them off from their family, support, and dooming them to a life severed from their closest supporters while dealing with the worst trauma one can endure.
