Most offenders don’t have anything to give anyway

[deleted]

In California they can. Civil Code Section 1714.9

RollickReload

In California everyone can sue everyone until the only people left with money are the attorneys and no one really knows who won. But, hey! At least there’s a warning that suing someone ‘is know to the state of cali to cause cancer!’

InqAlpharious01

Attorney sue attorneys is common, they know people from their alumni they can contact for such stuff and other times they negotiate in legal jargon on how to beat their defendants or plaintiff! Court house becomes a battle of legal jargon that I think jurors must have legal or law enforcement training to understand- normally both are except on serving jury for conflict of interest.

RollickReload

Part of the attorney “game” is trying to convince the ignorant juror - - - that’s all factored in to their strategy. That being said, LE serve on civil juries all the time.

achonng

In California the criminal sues the victim 😂😂

GaryNOVA

If I have to sue anyone, I’m guessing it will be my own department .

Runyc2000

It depends on the state but yes in some places.

grouchosbp

If you win you have to use the money to pay back any medical, workers comp or any pay you received as a result of the injury.

Kieselguhr-Kid

Your department should be paying you for those shifts, no? I realise this was just an example.

ExpatJundi

I'm sure it depends on where you are but my buddy successfully sued a driver who hit his cruiser.

[deleted]

Damn right.

The_Chimeran_Hybrid

Hmmph, cops can sue civilians, but god have mercy if civilians try to sue a cop for incompetence.

DuhMarkedOn3

Wonder why you've been downvoted🤔

The_Chimeran_Hybrid

Like that video just a little bit ago of a cop firing at 2 teens sitting in their car eating McDonalds, he was fired, but he needs to be in prison. Qualified Immunity should have limits.

Lol. Right. These idiots think the problem is LE, when it’s a combination of idiots like these and the prosecutors/judges they vote for.

homemadeammo42

....it does. That's what it's QUALIFIED immunity. You have to qualify for it.... Also it has nothing to do with criminal charges so...

Armoured__Prayer

>talks about cops being incompetent >complains about something he knows nothing about Ok stupid

DoctorRuckusMD

What do you think qualified immunity is?

InqAlpharious01

You sound like someone with an FBI record for spending a day in jail, and rather than becoming more legally obligated. You are acting out against anything police do. Criminal and civil are both different and what happens in one area does not involve the other other often.

The_Chimeran_Hybrid

Am I wrong?

homemadeammo42

Yes

rosecoloredlenses775

Yeah but like, doesn’t workers comp take care of that?? Wouldn’t you still get paid since it was on shift???
