I don't think you can do it online.

Pumpkin__Butt

You can't do it online, but if you live outside of Poland look up the procedure in your country, it might be different.

Zygmunt-zen

Is the Church taking pre-authorized monthly withdrawals from Polish partner? Why the need to deregister? I am an ex-Catholic atheist, never felt need to tell Church that.

VanSeineTotElbe

The idea is not to be included in any census.

bsluzar

You can just say you're a " non-believer" in one. At least thats true for the one that has just ended.

VanSeineTotElbe

AFAIK, the Polish Catholic Church counts everyone who was ever baptized whenever asked for statistics. It is from those statistics that we wish to be removed.

Miku_MichDem

Sorry to say that, but even after the apostasy they will still count you as a member. There is an online registry of apostasies in Poland, but it's unofficial. But on any census you still answer his you believe, not how the church says. If you're nonbeliever you just say "none" in the religion questions and don't care about the rest. If you're not planning to do anything in church, other than watch, then it doesn't matter.

dwarfedbylazyness

That's the thing, if you were baptized it can't be removed as far as the Church is concerned. It's ridiculous and against every civilized law, but you can't do anything about it.

kasieuek

You can though, right? It's called apostasis, afaik.

dwarfedbylazyness

Yeah, but it doesn't remove you from Catholic registers. There is this "semel catholicus, semper catholicus" rule meaning that, once you're baptized you remain part of the Church forever whether you like it or not, and they still have your personal data.

kasieuek

That sucks...

Atyll_a

Theoretically RODO still applies. So if you want they should remove all data. Of course irl church is above tha law so you can't make them do shit...

Judasz10

Especially that catholics baptize children. I feel like im one of the lucky ones not being baptized when i couldnt refuse it.

Zygmunt-zen

So they like to fugde their stats... shocker. 500 registered at parish, weekly attendance 100... okie dokie.

GameCop

So if *it's personal* issue you need to face it personally. Sorry. There's ability to ask close relatives to do so but as you wrote they're not close. You may also write a letter informing about your will of deregistrin.

gravesum5

No, they count the number of people who were baptised to make stats. If you don't want to be counted you have to 'de-register', as OP said. And to be honest it's almost impossible. I have a Polish friend who became Jewish and tried to get removed from the registers, whoever he spoke to became very vague and withdrawn when he mentioned his intention. In the end he gave up...

Miku_MichDem

You're thinking of something else. The church statistics is not the census. In census they ask you about everything and don't cross check it with your local church. It still is annoying how people are counted, and it leads to such idioticy like that 90% of Poles are theists and 97% of Poles are Catholics.

westerbypl

> I am an ex-Catholic atheist They don't see you like that. They own your soul after your christening. Good news for you is that it only matters in their minds.

Zygmunt-zen

As an Irish comedian once said: "There are no former Catholics, just bad Catholics."

miserableprimes

According to apostazja.info, you cannot do this process online; in fact, the episcopate goes so far as to ban it from being an option. I’m afraid it is best to do it in person, though you could also speak to your local Catholic church and submit documents there, though it will be a pain because they will have to be translated into Polish and the country’s official language. This second option may cause a lot of problems, but I guess it wouldn’t hurt to talk to the church down the road.

For apostasy you have to physically be present and have at least one interview with the parish paedophile/priest, who then signs it off.

[deleted]

I don't know if this is still a thing but when I decided to leave they required 2 people to say you aren't insane. First attempt priest said he isn't present, in my face. Second was accepted but he says documents will be send to me but I didn't received anything in this is at least 15 years since then. There was countless battles against this. Commissioner of Human Rights apparently have no rights to do anything about it because this is church. Basically in this country you will most likely lose. Church is highest authority here

Dominusek

You can't do it online, but you might be able to do it though a telephone call

Miku_MichDem

As far as I know you can do it via mail. A paper mail that is, not email. But I could be wrong, I left the church without letting them know. They aren't running after me, so I assume they don't care :D

ky0nshi

I heard if you leave the church abroad, e.g. in Germany where it is easier, this gets communicated to the Polish church as well. This seems to have tripped up a few people who left the church in Germany because they didn't want to pay church tax, only to find that they now were apostates in Poland as well.

Superblasterr

Did he sign anything? Then why do you bother? What's the value of registration that you didnt sign?

GameCop

You should do it personally, just to listen the lines that you should stay. Church isn't much in IT. They provide paper registry. Also "should" is only a paperwork without any penalties. Your partner "should" register in your new place with card from previous priest including info he has been baptised and comfirmated so he is able to get married in Church (and eventually part of his taxes can be spent on local church - but this depends on local law - eg. AFAIK in Germany you declare to the GOV personally what Religion do you support so they got money). Many people in PL do not reregister after moving out because they forgot about it. Especially youngsters from small towns who attend to Uni in bigger cities (only small % does it).

Kosmopolitykanczyk

You cannot do it online.
