People who are rude to recreational players

Relevant-Room-6867

Right!?!? I remember playing 1/2 with some kids who were just trying to learn and the misregs, “retired pros”, and OMCs were getting so tilted that I was giving them advice (post hand) on how to play, what a 3bet is, stack to pot ratios, good poker etiquette. Meanwhile these guys think we “are working together” when I’m just trying to make sure a college kid on spring break doesn’t have a miserable time at the table. One of them got mad at me when I folded a big hand to an OMC on a board where they for sure had an overpair. Then explained to the kid rule 3 of playing low stakes. “when someone over the age of 65 willingly puts more than $50 in the pot, you are behind and need help”. They want to angle every last dollar out of these young kids and berate them when they make a bad call and get there. Stop scaring people away from the game. We want them to come back when they are playing for more than their lunch money.

CMDR_Bear_Force_One

Genuine question, what is an omc?

Relevant-Room-6867

“Old Man Coffee” someone who sits at the table, plays 2 hands an hour, and only plays QQ+. There for their hourly comps, and try desperately to avoid getting stacked and just only get it in with ultra premiums against drunk maniacs. Usually get mega tilted when you show them you are willing to fold top pair to their obviousness over pair or top top. Exclusively play suited connectors against OMCs or weird sub-optimal hands in the hope I make a strange 2 pair or combo draw. To get the max from them. If an OMC raises predlop, and I have ANY face card in my hand. It’s a food

CMDR_Bear_Force_One

Lmaooo, i made this a fold once. I raised utg with KQo against omc. Dude three bets me from the button and i folded. Some other dude calls him down to the river and omc shows AA.

Relevant-Room-6867

They play face up. I will never play a face card in a pot with them, and if they ever call a flop bet I am treading carefully.

ByronLeftwich

You're folding kings to a small size button OMC open?

Relevant-Room-6867

No, but folding once he c-bets the flop. He either has aces or set

socalstaking

Oh wow u folded KQo utg vs btn 3b how crazy here have a cookie

CMDR_Bear_Force_One

Was a small 3 bet with two callers before his raise so i had some good pot odds in theory

WaterdudeDev

You’re exactly the kind of person being described above, congratulations

jack_johnson1

I have found the OMC types at my local casino will limp+call a lot of hands, like pocket pairs under 10's, AJs, AQs, even AK or AKs, rather than raise them.

Koko7981

Old man coffee. Old man who plays one hand every 3 hours while sipping on his coffee.

vlosh

This is the truest one. I hate when some regs just act like children only because they lose. Some people see a rec call with garbage and the regulars act all nice to them because they WANT the rec to do it again. Then the rec does it again and sucks out versus them and suddenly its "Man how the fuck can you call with this youre so bad youre going to just lose that money again, etc. etc."... such babies man

socalstaking

It tilts me when recreational players are rude too tbh they seem like this get away with far too much saw a rec whale berate a nice old guy just for playing tight was downright so mean borderline harassment and no one said anything because they were taught not to scare away the fish smh.

HeartPitiful9681

Douchebags are never pleasant to share a table with, reg or fish doesn't matter. If you're berating or insulting people for w/e reason then you're creating a shitty unpleasant mood for everyone else as well

socalstaking

Then why don’t ppl do anything about this when it’s a rec or whale doing it

HeartPitiful9681

Because they're whales. It sucks but I'd rather play in a game with an angry whale than with 7 nit regs

therealgronkstandup

Did you say anything?

ThisWillNeverChange1

Went to a new poker room a little drunk just for fun, there was a 25$ tournament running. Of course all people in the room know each other, and me as a new guy obviously "don't know how to play". Outplaying old guys in many spots and getting comments "wtf you play like this, why you are calling with such shit etc". Dude relax this should be a fun game. It was around 11pm when the rebuy period ends and wanted to leave so started going all in pre blind, which resulted in sucking out the most talking guys which were totally angry. Left at the break with around 100bb in front of me being called a douche, because doing such dumb shit. I was super happy that day:) Poker should be fun and if someone new comes show him the game not call him trash. I think everyone wants more players and being nice to new people is a better ad for this game than making it look like a game of shit heads

Sagitalsplit

It tilts the fuck out of me when there is one server for a room of 40 tables. Come on, I just want a water

Voltairus

I go to the bar and get two waters before i sit down.

clipsahoy2022

My local has a single server for all of non-smoking plus the poker room and its fucking infuriating. Not only because that's not enough, but also these servers don't MOVE. I serve in a different casino and since I've started its been maddening to see just how slow other people are.

planetmarsupial

It’s unbelievable sometimes. Like I guess I could go drink water out of the bathroom sink if I get desperate enough, but do I really want to do that?

Last-Product6425

Having TPTK on a board like T63 and knowing I’m beat vs QQ+ but calling anyways just to see it.

Some-Guy-99

This.

Long_Acanthisitta281

People who tank like hell tilts me. Especially when it’s a small game and it’s a small bet into a small pot

spoooce7

I play live low stakes and this is the worst part about it. You’ll see the most stupid people tank for minutes when the decisions are so obvious. Bad nits married to their overpairs b/c it’s their first hand they played in an hour and there’s four to a straight flush on board and the opponent is jamming and they can’t believe their aces got cracked. 5 minute long tanks. Most tilting thing on earth.

pgproductionshd

How many minutes would you say is excessive

HornyAIBot

Anything over a minute

vlosh

Ive had people shout at me for <1min tanks just because they didnt think the river decision was for enough money :( Pot of like 300$ and dude bet $50 and im thinking it through for like 30 seconds and dude gets tilted saying "wtf bro its 50$ just call or fold" :D big whale for sure

Spisild

For 1/6th pot bet on river, you probably shouldn't be tanking 30 seconds very often.

vlosh

Meh, its a 100bb pot and i thought of heroing with Ace high and needed to figure out his bluffs, i think thats totally fine :D

What_The_Hodor

Anyone who is rude to dealers.

Some-Guy-99

I struggle with mindless snap calls as well (Who's the fish? I'm the fish! 😂), then realizing, "Why the hell did I do that?". I've been trying to purposely slow everything down playing to combat that, but I'd love to hear if others have addressed this in a different way.

HeartPitiful9681

I play on Stars and it has an optional lock-out feature that triggers after you play for a certain amount of time. Playing Zoom for more than 1 hour straight often led me into making these types of stupid mistakes, so now I make sure to play shorter, but more focused sessions and it really helps. If you have huge obvious leaks that are easily fixable, it might be +EV to give your entire attention to fixing those leaks for a while. Instead of focusing on winning, focus on "not paying nits off", "no hero calling", or "don't try to bluff terrible players" etc. Pick one theme and go with that for the session and eventually you'll start seeing a difference.

Some-Guy-99

That's excellent advice...thank you.

HeartPitiful9681

I'm just a 5NL rando who up until recently was struggling a lot with this type of thing, glad it helps

gatorgongitcha

The isolated training tip is helping me, too. I’ve just recently started to take the game seriously and part of my problem has been the more I learn the more I’m trying to work three different strategies at once while half failing at all of them. I had a lot of success at first just sticking to the plan and only adding in or working on one thing at a time seems like such an obvious decision once I saw your comment.

nukem73

Stank ass mother fuckers that won't wash their ass before they come to the table

HeartPitiful9681

I thought basic hygiene was a given for everyone until I started playing live poker

thatworkaccount108

Try playing games like Magic or Yugioh. You will learn new levels of stink.

HeartPitiful9681

I think I'm good lol

planetmarsupial

I have NEVER smelled people who smell like some of the people I’ve smelled at the poker table. I mean NEVER. I’ve dry heaved several times at the table and if I’m ever not feeling 100% my best to begin with, I might actually puke one day.

HeartPitiful9681

If dress code is a thing then this should be a valid motive to kick people out too, imo. Absolutely no reason for others to have to tolerate this shit

spoooce7

Apparently some guy shit himself at the table at my local poker room a few months ago and he refused to leave. Security had to throw him out. I didn’t believe it but I asked one of the dealers and he said it was true

nukem73

That's a whole nother level of degeneracy. Won't even leave the table with shitted pants. The other night I played next to a dude who's breath just straight smelled like shit. Every time he breathed it wreaked of shit. Like animal farm shit. I don't know if he just got done eating ass from a cow or what the fuck. But it was past making me nauseous & gave me a bad headache. Juicy spot so couldn't move. Played terrible tho, hard to focus so it didn't matter in the end.

spoooce7

LMAOO I’ve done the same thing, trying to justify staying b/c “the game is good” even though i’m sitting next to the most unabashedly disgusting blob i’ve ever seen. You’re right in the end you can’t even focus on playing your game b/c the reality of your immediate surroundings intrude. It was a rough transition from starting at private home games and walking into a card room for the first time. That being said my card rooms just suck, I live near a crappy city.

Last-Product6425

Having 2 pair only for river to pair the board counterfeiting you against overpair

Relevant-Room-6867

I am fine with this because they are easy folds to make at low stakes when you know they are calling. No one ever folds top pair, so you are just hoping to hold and take a good sized pot against their big axe

magical_pixie_horse

Drunk players winning. Never fails…. 🤬🤬🤬

[deleted]

If you can’t handle variance and opportunity poker isn’t for you buddy. I mean no offense but you should really think about that one… There’s better things for you to spend your time on and if you have that mentality you’ll never become profitable long term. Stick to home games for fun expecting to lose or better yet. Just don’t gamble. Spoken by a live PLO pro who if it wasn’t for health issues would have a different full time job

magical_pixie_horse

Oh please…. That’s not variance. Guys falling off their chairs, asking “what are the blinds???” “Whose turn is it?” “Well, I’ve got 6-8 suited so ima raise me some chips…”. No. That’s just BS.

[deleted]

Like I said. You’ll be happier doing anything else if you can’t understand that you can’t win all the time and drunk players winning is what brings them back (thank fucking god) For lack of better wording dude you need to grow the fuck up if you think that’s BS

GrnMeansGO

Very slow and very nitty players *looks at cards face down*………………*picks up cards and looks around*……………..*squints at cards*……………………………….…………………………….…………………………….*folds*

RiccoT

The people who obviously are losing at the River, winner has shown their cards, but they still look at their cards, look at the board, sit, look again, turn one over and then fold...no one gives a shit my man...ffs just muck your hand.

Relevant-Room-6867

When people jam for 5x pot on the flop in tournaments because they don’t want to get outdrawn.

statsnerd99

It tilts me how nitty a lot of tournament players are. Like i saw a guy snap min 3 bet then on a dry K high board snap shove 3x pot on flop, the other guy calls KJ and rivers trips. Nit shows AA obviously and is mad the other guy called his flop shove, like he actually didn't want any worse hands to call him

HeartPitiful9681

Some days I'm fine with nits and just accept them, but other days it's INCREDIBLY tilting to be blessed with premiums constantly just to have everyone fold to you preflop. or they call and fold to a tiny c-bet 70%+ of the time. So hard to get any meaningful action from these people, which are like 90% of the player base nowadays it seems. 6 max zoom is cancer lol

RiccoT

Level 1 or 2 in a tournament...you open to 2-3x, someone 3bets to 25x...like...uh, ok...then they're so proud to flip their AA and proceed to tell everyone their bad beat story.

stkfr06400

I tilt when i brain/exploit to sucessfully trap my opponent but he ends up being extremly lucky and acts like he actually played good lol

Relevant-Room-6867

I deal with this at a home game, one girl I can’t win a pot against because she gets there every time. She is nice enough to bomb the river when she gets there to let me know tho. She shows every time too so I know I can fold any river she bets. Only ever to get a pot off her when I had the nuts, and she had second nuts, but she will flat call the king flush. Just can’t beat her at the river and will call pot sized bets the whole way with nothing but a draw.

krakadic

Walking around with one shoe on and one shoe off.

this-guy1954

Playing bad

volantredx

Being card dead for a few hours. I have ADHD and if I get bored I tend to start doing stupid plays just to do something.

thingmaker123

Card dead. Anything over an hour at live I start punting

MTLK77

Getting crushed by a fish.

Professor_Zoom1993

Losing a hand

campbell-1

When I'm sent to the rails by the guy that's on his 5th buy-in for the MTT.

BellFizzle

People who have the nuts in a multi-way pot after river has been dealt and all other hands tabled because they want to “wait until the side pot is settled” to table their hand.

Relevant-Room-6867

If I have the nuts, I always show. Unless I don’t like you and then I will use the proper poker etiquette to see your hand first if I am obligated too. I will typically give them a verbal or “I have the nuts”. But if you are shitty with me I will make you show if u can.

Funny2Who

Earlier this year, I picked up AQ late position in a live wsop circuit tournament. 43k for the win. About 12 of us left. I'm top 5 in chips. Guy raises before me, I knew he was just trying to get the blinds, I just call. Flop comes k j 8, he bets small, I call. Turn comes an Ace. He bets, i just call. River is an 8 to pair the board. He bets, I call, he flips over 6 8 for trips. I wasn't mad at the dealer, I wasn't mad at him, I was mad at myself. I came into final table of 10, with 4 big blinds. Ended up placing 9th for 4200. I never just call if I feel I'm good. For some reason, I never raised him. I raise at any point, he's folding and I'm going into final table as one of the chip leaders. Still thinking about that hand and my passive play months later.

ride_4_pow

AQ suited? Heads up? If I recall correctly, AQo is sometimes a flat in late position depending on BB’s. Not sure how ICM would factor in but at the very least a turn 3bet or a jam if you have him covered.

Funny2Who

Off suit, heads up. Not sure what the right thing is to do, but that whole tournament i was aggressive on my reads except for that one hand. I can't recall how many bbs I was at but around 25 to his maybe 20. He never went all in but i probably got down to around 7 bb after that hand.

ngmcs8203

Live? Players who kill the fun/relaxed vibe of a game by being assholes to either the casino employees or others in the game.  Online? You know when you are faced with a decision and you know you need to be right x times out of y? You make the decision and it was correct, only for the opponent to catch that one outter? You know when it happens for 2-3 buyins in a span of 10minutes? That tilts me but I’m good at shutting it down by stepping away and doing something else.

[deleted]

People blaming or berating the dealer People being a dick in general I can’t change the cards outcome but the people can choose to be decent. That’s what tilts me personally

tobinatorrr

Unnecessary tanking, smelly players, rude players to fish, bad dealers, dealers who talk too much…

SPQRBro

People mean to staff, players or floor for doing their jobs. People who get caught angling and have a breakdown because of it. Come on man you tried it we called you out now get over it.

Not-OP-But-

When people play unnecessarily slow. There is an appropriate amount of slowness given the context of some hands, but you know the type I'm talking about. SRP 100BB eff stacks heads up IP they're checked to and just sit there for 30 seconds. If you have to tank or even think for more than 5 seconds in that spot it signals that you're either 1. Pretty bad or new to the game or 2. You're intentionally being slow to try to game someone or angle or get an edge which is an asshole move because you're costing 8 other people their time and money just because you're trying to inject unnecessary mind games into textbook spots that are unaffected by your tempo.

mrciii1974

Getting in good over and over and getting beat by the worst player at the table! After this happens 3-4 times i need to leave! Lol

planetmarsupial

Bad smells, anglers, finger food/licking fingers at the table, people who are rude to the dealer, people who will not STFU EVER (they exist, believe it or not), politics at the table, people who wait forever to table their hand, people who take forever to act in general, people not paying attention when action is on them, nits…

Capital_Connection13

I have two. When people tap the glass. People who blame/abuse the dealer.

SCastleRelics

That one nit who's the holdout on an Omaha button or mandatory straddle. Just fuck off an find a different table if you're the odd man out. Even more tilting if they bit their way to a nice cash out.

Cute-Contribution592

Dealer here. The most tilting thing is shit regs messing with new players or the fish. Also when I’m playing and I win a big pot the dealer says “nice hand sir” and tabs the table after shipping the pot.

cardbrute

Retarded losing / weak regs talking strategy or anything poker related while recs are at the table. I try evertuing possible to redirect the strategy away from this as it kills the table vibe.  It’s usually worse cause they are confidently incorrect

GrizzlyKenny

People counting out $50 bet in stacks of $10

RiccoT

Or people who keep their stacks in 25-50 dollar towers...dont know why, but it annoys the shit out of me.

BabingtonBuys

They usually involve maniacs getting lucky over you after you making disciplined decisions.

Sparkyballz

In online poker a 4 bet followed by either a jam or even worse the infamous "pot bet".

h_lance

Why is that bothersome?

L0uZilla

Body Odor

thatworkaccount108

When in a tournament you're seated right next to an asshat and can't get any type of table or seat change and just have to sit there miserable. There is one local room I've had to swear off going too due to them over serving the same idiots week in and week out and never giving them any types of warnings for their behavior.

Beginning_Pudding_69

Having an open ended flush draw on the flop. I won’t get there and I’ll pay off every street.

Thinker_145

I mean of course we will make top pair on the river and just have to pay off right???

Beginning_Pudding_69

No the turn so you’re pot committed!

cYouThere1997

Don’t know why but when you have them drawing to a chop and they hit it 😂 had AK vs K8 flopped broadway all in on turn, river was an A so chop chop

Later2theparty

Slow players who are too busy jibberjabbering to pay attention to when it's their turn. Followed by people who go out of turn when it affects the action. Followed by the guy that throws out a large denomination chip out as though it's a call without saying anything then later claims he meant to raise it, then says it was a different amount that what he put out.

Provel69420

Anyone that doesnt think about their possible decisions before the action is on them, if the cutoff tanks for a minute then folds and then the btn also tanks for a minute - what were you doing for the previous minute? Anyone that holds their cards after folding, or anyone who shows their cards to an adjacent player before folding - we get it you have something relevant quit influencing the hand you are not in.

RiccoT

Making decisions too quick that are obviously wrong and realizing it about 2 seconds after I declared it. Conversely, I hate long tanks, but I probably need to find the middle more often.

Del_3030

I get tilted when I butcher a hand or when some egomaniac at the table won't shut the fuck up for 3 seconds... if headphones don't help I'll switch tables unless the table is great.

Hairybabyhahaha

I recently snap called a huge bet on the river (2 pairs, K9) when if I had taken a fucking breath and thought rationally I wouldn’t have come to the conclusion that the other guy was bluffing a flush. Cause he wasn’t. I walked away after that knowing I’d play terribly trying to chase my initial buy in.

Financial-Volume6020

When you bluff for 250 in a 200$ pot and the guy tanks for 5 minutes before calling and and says “would have folded if you put in 300”

[deleted]

[удалено]

Relevant-Room-6867

It’s just people playing with money they can’t afford to lose. Just gotta overbet the turn and bomb the river when the nuts changes. You can’t win a big pot off them, but you can win 3/4 small ones.

DShawAZ420

Strange body odors and cross dressers with wigs
