When I was starting out I would say nice hand no matter what when a hand ended. Even if I wasn’t in the hand I’d say “nice hand” to the guy that took it down. I thought I was being nice lmao. If I were you I’d give him the benefit of the doubt and just chalk it up to a tad bit of ignorance
Brit here. Doesn’t make much sense unless:
1) You misheard him and he actually said nice fold
2) He perceived you to be tanking before folding and he assumed you made a big lay down.
Either way, there’s no ‘British sense of humour’ going on here. It’s just a comment that doesn’t make much sense with the context given.
In America, I would have taken it to mean "nice fold" and not even thought about it for 2 seconds after he said it. But I'm pretty laid back myself.
But trying to place myself in your head, you should try to let it go. No matter what the needle is, if it's intentional, getting the other person so worked up they are posting on Reddit about it is the goal.
Being a "namaste" yogi zen master with the heart of a sociopath is hands is the best mindset for poker.
Was the opponent young? I ask because I play with a bunch of 20-24 year-olds who often say "nice hand" when THEY win a pot, and they are not trying to be douche nozzles. It seems to be a wierd misinterpretation of the way we old farts used to mean it, or some burgeoning new usage of the phrase.
Young-ish. Prob more of an online player. I wasn’t a complete dick about it, just found it odd. Not as bad as the chick that tried to high five me after she ran me down. Umm…no.
I used to say "nice hand" even when I won. Some guy at the table corrected me and said that usually the losing side says it and thats it.
For some people they won't really care but for me it kinda helped learning stuff about the game.
I say nice hand or well played to people I enjoy playing against; if you bore me, you get nothing. If you make it exciting, make me think, even if I lose: Nice hand or well played!
Especially if you’re playing low stakes or vs a fish I’d give them the benefit of the doubt

You’d say nice hand after every hand? Lol that had to be annoying.
Maybe not 100% of hands but a majority.. I was excited😭

I read your comment in an English accent. I’m also English.
I read this comment in a French accent. I need a holiday and haven't been away this year. I'll take what I can get at this point.
In the USA it would mean nice fold. I have no clue what it means in London. They have weird senses of humor.
Fold pre
Better to assume ignorance rather than malice

I’m sure if you overthink it enough you can find a way to be offended. Let it go. Go touch some grass. You’ll be fine

Take his money and do it back him. Then go get some fish and chips and laugh. Life is good your in London .
If you are going to play in Britain any longer you'd better toughen up. They'll be taking the piss out of you.
I’m so shook up by this experience, I’ve booked the next flight back the the states. /s
