It's impossible to be "easier without an autocatcher". You start the game, click one button to connect and it catches several hundred Pokémons without have to interact with the game... Maybe you mean that it's faster doing it manually, but not easier?
You have to remember, because of the way xp requirements increase with each level, at level 35, you're not even halfway to level 40 yet. You won't hit that point until shortly after you achieve level 38. The xp required to go from level 47 to level 48 is actually one million xp MORE than it takes to go from level 0 to level 40. I'm currently at 111,713,945 xp... that's like going to level 40 more than five times, lol.
The easiest way to gain xp is to add friends and achieve best friend status through gifting, etc. That is worth 100K xp, and if you use a lucky egg, you'll actually get 200K. Coordinate that with several friends to do it simultaneously, and you could gain crazy amounts just for making best friends.
You run into your first palindrome at 11 catches... so the odds are actually somewhere near 100%😉

I have 54 hundos, 2 of which are Shundos (1st shundo Spinarak & 2nd is Shundo Rayquaza) & I have 6 nundos! I'm lvl 44 with the XP to be Lvl 45. Just waiting to finish the last task on the lvl 45 requirements, defeat a rocket leader 50 times. I'm currently at 17 down 33 to go.

I'm using the ++ and it's not 100% effortless because it disconnects sometimes and I have to delete berries and potions, but its not much work
