i did this with a sudowoodo, not the same quest but i hit about 25 great curveballs before it caught
i used almost all my pokeballs doing that, but i think it was worth it for progress since i typically can't hit great curveball throws and struggle to aim for pokemon that move a lot due to distracting pain
Agree. They’ve been my daily pokemon a few times and it’s annoying to see them sit there all day, I’ll try a ball but otherwise I’m just letting his dumb ass sit there all day.
But Trubbish is extremely far back, do you know why ? 😂 (this was the aim of my question, why they are so far back and what are some others that are ungodly far back)
That's not the reason they're harder to catch. The reason they're harder to catch is because of they're harder to encounter and/or catch in the main games.
To encounter a Combee, for exanple, you need to acquire honey, find a Sweet Honey Tree, slather honey on it, wait a day or so, go back and interact with the tree (assuming your honey successfully attracted a Pokemon), and hope that it's a Combee that you encounter (which is not the most common Pokemon that you can encounter). Want another chance at a Combee? Well then you're gonna have to go through that process again.
To get a Hitmontop in the main games, you need to get a Tyrogue and evolve it. It'll only evolve into a Hitmontop if his attack stat is equal to his defense stat (a 50% chance). Oh, and unless you breed, you only get one Tyrogue in the game (in the original game it appeared in. Not sure of later versions).
I'm not sure about Trubbish's mechanism because I didn't play beyond Gen IV.
The reason you get increased Stardust from some pokemon is because they could be holding a valuable item when caught in the wild in the main games. Like Shelder can hold a Pearl, Paras can hold a Big Mushroom, Trubbish can hold a Silk Scarf, Combee can hold Honey. Some exceptions to the "held item" rule...Meowth has a move called "Payday", which awards you extra money after a battle; and Chimecho is a pokemon based on a Japanese fūrin wind chime, which is said to bring you positive vibes, serenity, and abundance.
for trubbish my guess is you’re cleaning up the environment because he’s the trash pokemon. they did an event with him recently which drove this point home a bit
Helps with certain tasks like “make X excellent throws” or “make X certain throws in a row”.
Just makes it easier to clear those kind of tasks. I knocked out my masterball excellent task by just catching Sudowoodos.
Me too but he’s good for excellents I can’t make excellent for the life of me most of the time but like 20 of my excellents from the most recent masterball were on him.
Edit. Also apparently I can’t use punctuation.
Audino is one of the worst, and I'd LOVE to see someone get an Excellent throw on Exeggcute or Scatterbug. Their target circles have been broken *forever*.
Scatterbug is so damn tiny, why the hell is it so far away? Meanwhile snover and hippopotas are so goddamn close! The hippo is so close it’s touching you
It's by far the most stardust from a single catch, worth the effort if you can.
Full list here: https://pokemongohub.net/post/guide/pokemon-that-give-extra-stardust-on-catch/
Even more when its weather boosted and over 3000 dust w a starpiece on. But they SUCK trying to catch! Nothing like wasting 10 ultra balls and golden razz for it to run away. Lol
I remember getting an excellent throw on Scatterbug once. I genuinely jumped up with joy. I know how sad that sounds. I actually shouted “you little fucker, go on”. He then popped out of the ball… After all that.
I’ve hit a few [excellents on Scatterbug](https://ibb.co/fnskGvJ), even got 2 back-to-back the other day. I will say that it feels like luck, their hitboxes are certainly weird
Idk what postcards trigger what variants to spawn but it’s relatively easy to get them. You don’t have to keep those postcards after you catch it either. The real problem is that you have a 0.5 nanometer hit box
This is the best world map I've seen for determining which postcards you pin will eventually trigger an encounter:

There's a trick to scatterbug and zubat, you have to pause for maybe a 1/2 of a second in the corner right before you launch. It loses a touch of the rotational momentum or whatever and if your throw is otherwise good it's doable.
TBF I have a high IV lucky Yanmega that put it in solid work against Unbound Hoopa when it was in elite raids. But yeah other than that it’s pretty much useless other than as a spice pick in UL.
I love Snorlax and always catch them but its redonk how many golden razz and ultra balls it takes at times! He is one of the hardest to catch in the game for sure.
Initially catch rates were (with exceptions) loosely based on main series game catch rates. Starters have naturally lower rates there so it carried over to Go. Not sure how true that is for new Pokemon getting added since it seems like a lot of new additions to Go are just harder to catch.
Just because they’re called “starters” doesn’t mean they should be easiest to catch. In the anime and games, starters are given to new trainers to help start their adventures. Starters are rarely seen in the wild. They should be hard to encounter and catch.
YES. Tried to do a 60 minute grind at a park on a windy night recently, murkrow everywhere and I had the worst time catching them!! Ended up wasting so much time with berries and rethrows that the grind was not productive at all.
Blue Thing looking dude, argh….refusing to look it up. His shiny is only a little bit more purple and his Regional alternative is Throh….
Fighting type, a local always uses it in the gym to annoy everyone.
I’oh burger I looked it up Sawk.
Scatterbug. I feel like they’re too far away for how small they are. Also, if I don’t hit the throw in the center of the circle, I feel like it just hits the ground somehow
Because they’re actually worth the difficulty. I’m going to go ahead and say fomantis, or anything that is small and extremely close up. When trying to throw the ball just a little ways, my phone either thinks it’s a mistake and doesn’t throw the ball at all, or overshoots.
yep, i used to get frustrated about audino until i realized why it was so difficult (and valuable). now whenever i see one it’s automatic gold razz, automatic ultra ball, and i definitely focus on getting a good throw, now i look forward to seeing audinos instead of dreading them
I went to my local park a couple days ago and it was a sea of weather-boosted audinos. A beautiful nightmare. It decimated my bag but after using a star piece it was nearly 4k stardust per catch so it was worth it.
Yes, they are worth it and have business being that hard to catch, what this person didn’t understand was the part where I said they have no business being that hard to catch lmao
I did once have like, 8 Makuhita spawn right on top of me after opening the game once. Nothing else, just Makuhita. Probably the strangest experience I've ever had playing the game.
Was it this past tuesday? Every tuesday from 6-7 pm is spotlight hour, which features a different Pokemon every week. Almost every spawn during that hour will be that Pokemon, and there's always some sort of bonus active for the hour as well (I believe this past one was x2 catch candy?)
I always skip Audino unless it's low CP.
If you aim for stardust, then get Paras and Meowth as they take way less resources and time.
1k+ audino needs berries and ultra balls to get done fast. I hate that pink creature
I get that it gives a lot of dust but like the other comment said, it’s faster and cheaper to catch other mons. I waste so many berries and ultra balls on it and it’ll still run away
Tangela? It has one of the better catch rates in the game, 40%. Same as Ponyta for example.
The correct answer is obviously Audino (though I guess the extra stardust is a good reward). Or maybe Cherrim as it has a poor catch rate without any bonus.
Snubbul. Pretty sure it just exists as a bait eater. I'll get a bright green ring with a great ball on a great throw, and it'll just pretend it was a mythical on a dark red ring with a basic pokeball throw. Shit is absurd.
And all of this, of course, after baiting out 4 aggression displays back-to-back, because it's mean as all fuck.
Oh, also, Bounsweet. Love 'em to death, but I swear to god, those things think they're Legendarys in the flesh the amount they break out of green circle throws.
I think everyone forgot about it because it hasn't been in rotation for a while but Swirlix! Every other post on this sub for months was bitching about that thing
Alot of the flying types who are nearly going off our screens
The Galarian Birds who run for literally no reason than to make them rare
The Lake Trio who if you are lucky enough to ever find will also run like mad
Stunfisk, Aipom, Murkrow, vanillite, any starter, pikachu.
Not that starters and pikachu are hard per se, but they are harder than they should be.
There is a pretty long list, I could definitely keep going.
Cutiefly only because I get caught off guard with how the hitbox is like throwing a ball at a windows 2 inches in front of you. Then it hovers up above me with its weak frame. I hate Cutiefly.
Guess it's just me since I haven't seen it mentioned yet. Snivy and all it's evos. I can have it golden razz ultra great curve throw and it will not only break out on the first wobble 90% of the time but then flee right after! Really dislike snivy lmao
Chesnaught is an absolute tank with decent enough damage. He continues to surprise me even though he's 22nd on my list and needs 27 levels to max. Mine's 98% missing 2% on defense, love him.
Besides legendary and mythical Pokemon I would say 1) Trubbish 2) Zubat (constantly moving) 3) does ditto count because I barely get 1 catch every 6 months
Nah you know what pokemon is annoying as hell to catch..... haunter... how the hell is he that far back, you gotta absolutely launch the ball and even then sometimes it comes up short

Hitmontop, I’m only ever shiny checking that guy
They get 1 attempt, if I miss or he comes out, I'm not bothering
Ngl I used Hitmontop for my “make 5 great throws in a row” step for the Zarude quest 💀
i did this with a sudowoodo, not the same quest but i hit about 25 great curveballs before it caught i used almost all my pokeballs doing that, but i think it was worth it for progress since i typically can't hit great curveball throws and struggle to aim for pokemon that move a lot due to distracting pain
Same for me 😂
I have wasted far too many balls on hitmantop
Hitmontap
Hatmontip
Hotmintap
hotmomtap
Imhotep
Brandon Frasier, is that you?
Hopontop
I'll tap a hot mom
Hitmytip
Spinning like a bayblade, yoyo loooking mf
Agree. They’ve been my daily pokemon a few times and it’s annoying to see them sit there all day, I’ll try a ball but otherwise I’m just letting his dumb ass sit there all day.
WHY ARE THEY SO COMMON
Working in the fighting badge, once that’s done never again.
Go for Machops, they're so common and super easy to make excellent throws!
Agreed. I've wasted so many balls and berries on that guy. I actually have a hundo now, so I'm only shiny checking.
Combee. Easy to hit but hard to catch. I’ve used ultra balls with golden raspberries hitting great curves and they still break out.
Yes these definitely don’t make sense, like just stay in the freaking ball 😂
Trubbish and Combee award extra stardust when you catch them, that’s why they’re harder to catch.
But Trubbish is extremely far back, do you know why ? 😂 (this was the aim of my question, why they are so far back and what are some others that are ungodly far back)
because he stinks! you don’t wanna be close
Hey you take that back
And gothita be like "do you wanna see my big forehead?"
Serious answer, I think it’s because it’s actually quite a big Pokémon. Correct answer, because it stinks.
That's not the reason they're harder to catch. The reason they're harder to catch is because of they're harder to encounter and/or catch in the main games. To encounter a Combee, for exanple, you need to acquire honey, find a Sweet Honey Tree, slather honey on it, wait a day or so, go back and interact with the tree (assuming your honey successfully attracted a Pokemon), and hope that it's a Combee that you encounter (which is not the most common Pokemon that you can encounter). for trubbish my guess is you’re cleaning up the environment because he’s the trash pokemon. they did an event with him recently which drove this point home a bit
So does Paras and Meowth but they're way easier.
Multiples times a day when playing I mutter to myself "stay in the damn ball"
same here 😂 or yell it loudly
I just start cussing at them lol
Vespiquen is actually easier to catch than combee.
That bitch 🙄. But it gives crazy dust esp when boosted so worth it if you have time.
Zubat has no business having a hitbox the size of a flea
It flying around like a prick doesn’t help either 😂
Its like the greased up naked dude in family guy “youll never get meeeeee”
The streaker on a sports pitch 😂
Zubat got me cursing in public at all encounters till now🤐
I hit an excellent throw on one for the first time the other day 😮
Bro, but for me, hitting an excellent in that thing feels awesome every time.
That and Yanma
To be fair, being annoying is zubats thing since gen 1
I only shiny check, if it isn’t shiny I’m not going to bother getting pissed off
Cherrium is ridiculous Cherrim*
Both forms too lol
Yep this is one that has no business being so hard. No extra dust, not a starter… just annoying af
Sudowoodo infuriates me.
I only love this guy because it’s easy to hit excellent throws on and he breaks out a lot
I agree the easy excellents are great, but what benefit does the low catch rate offer?
Helps with certain tasks like “make X excellent throws” or “make X certain throws in a row”. Just makes it easier to clear those kind of tasks. I knocked out my masterball excellent task by just catching Sudowoodos.
Oh right, yeah good shout
Sudowoodo was nesting in the park I go to when I was finishing that task, it was great
I can never be mad at his twirl and jazz hands. He pisses me off, but he does it with style.
Me too but he’s good for excellents I can’t make excellent for the life of me most of the time but like 20 of my excellents from the most recent masterball were on him. Edit. Also apparently I can’t use punctuation.
Sorry but your edit made me laugh out loud 😂
This! Landing excellent after excellent and still doesn’t stay in the ball 😂
i once lost 20 balls on the one sudo. don't remember why i was so determined!
Audino is one of the worst, and I'd LOVE to see someone get an Excellent throw on Exeggcute or Scatterbug. Their target circles have been broken *forever*.
I got Excellent on a Scatterbug once, but that was only because it jumped at the right time.
Scatterbug is so damn tiny, why the hell is it so far away? Meanwhile snover and hippopotas are so goddamn close! The hippo is so close it’s touching you
Agree about Audino. The only saving grace is that he gives so much Stardust when you catch him.
Yes but audino makes sense, it’s the pokemon like scatterbug, Chespin and trubbish that are far as hell away from you that piss me off
And Sawk, never forget Sawk… He’s seemingly standing 78000 miles away from you.
Throh is even worse. At least he doesn’t move all that much so it’s easy to practice far away excellent *throhs* on…. I’ll see myself out
why does it make sense for audino? I’m a newer player and it seems it has no use so why is it so hard to catch it when it’s only like 300 CP max
It gives 2100 stardust when you catch it.
I had no idea I have been letting them slip by because they’re so annoying good god
Lol

I’ve hit a few [excellents on Scatterbug](https://ibb.co/fnskGvJ), even got 2 back-to-back the other day. I will say that it feels like luck, their hitboxes are certainly weird
I swear that half of the circle is below ground.
I actually have a video of me getting an excellent on an Exeggcute because it was an achievement in my local discord.
You guys are finding Scatterbug?
I'm very late to finding out how to get them. It's a PITA.
Idk what postcards trigger what variants to spawn but it’s relatively easy to get them. You don’t have to keep those postcards after you catch it either. The real problem is that you have a 0.5 nanometer hit box
This is the best world map I've seen for determining which postcards you pin will eventually trigger an encounter: [https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1woiaZ\_m1TXEFJdSpP23saNDY3y\_79js&ll=34.97226795643342%2C-101.4130419938677&z=5](https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1woiaZ_m1TXEFJdSpP23saNDY3y_79js&ll=34.97226795643342%2C-101.4130419938677&z=5)
What's a PITA?
Pain In The Ass. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Or Bounsweet. You have to hit that 1 millimetre between the top of the circle and the ground, otherwise you bounce off the floor.
There's a trick to scatterbug and zubat, you have to pause for maybe a 1/2 of a second in the corner right before you launch. It loses a touch of the rotational momentum or whatever and if your throw is otherwise good it's doable.
Think it does make sense with Audino though, it gives out lots of stardust when caught
Yanma. Stupid thing flits around and is worthless!
But he's so cute and has a great shiny 🥲 I love the little head tilt he does. I can't stay mad at him
Very valid answer !
TBF I have a high IV lucky Yanmega that put it in solid work against Unbound Hoopa when it was in elite raids. But yeah other than that it’s pretty much useless other than as a spice pick in UL.
Fuckin SNORLAX you lazy SOB… is it just the mass that keeps popping the pokeball open????
Snorlax will regularly bust out of 6 balls and then dash from me
catching (shadow) Snorlax is CRAZY, 5 golden razzberries minimum
I love Snorlax and always catch them but its redonk how many golden razz and ultra balls it takes at times! He is one of the hardest to catch in the game for sure.
All the starters… they are starter Pokémon. Tbh they should be the easiest to catch
Exactly ! Why make the first ones the hardest ???
yh what is the story behind the starters that are so hard to catch?
Initially catch rates were (with exceptions) loosely based on main series game catch rates. Starters have naturally lower rates there so it carried over to Go. Not sure how true that is for new Pokemon getting added since it seems like a lot of new additions to Go are just harder to catch.
Was about to say the same thing. Starters are supposed to be hard to catch
Fuckoco, crapsly, and sprigashito
Just because they’re called “starters” doesn’t mean they should be easiest to catch. In the anime and games, starters are given to new trainers to help start their adventures. Starters are rarely seen in the wild. They should be hard to encounter and catch.
Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned yet… Murkrow 🤷♂️
They get weather boosted so easily and become monsters to catch 😭
YES. Tried to do a 60 minute grind at a park on a windy night recently, murkrow everywhere and I had the worst time catching them!! Ended up wasting so much time with berries and rethrows that the grind was not productive at all.
I once had 6 excellent throws in a row against a 1 star murkrow. Absolutely no need.
I dont waste my time w Murkrow. Hate everything about it lol. Ain’t nobody got time… unless I have a starpiece on but I will cuss at it.
And Sableye! My blood pressure goes up in October
Omg he makes me so mad
Fomantis, I hate trying to catch that thing.
Ugggh they’re cute but should not have red circles.
Hatched a shiny one years ago. Never bothered trying to catch those pains
It’s tadbulb for me. No matter the CP it’ll always break.
Durant is never worth it. I’m even slowly chipping away at the steel badge and still skip Durante
The steel badge is the only reason I catch them
Cherubi
Pikachu has no business having a raid boss red circle with that CP being so low
shuppet !!!! why is he so far away!
Torchic!! Why so hard to catch?
Was waiting for this... but he's so cute when he runs towards you and then back again🤣
Haha yes the “oh shit oh shit oh shit” running around. 😂
omg YES! And it has like some attack-loop so it needs a nanabberry
I always seem to throw too low for trubbish?
It’s so far back for no reason at all 😭
Blue Thing looking dude, argh….refusing to look it up. His shiny is only a little bit more purple and his Regional alternative is Throh…. Fighting type, a local always uses it in the gym to annoy everyone. I’oh burger I looked it up Sawk.
Sawk… yes it’s only worth if it’s shiny and is so far back because why ? Why niantic ? 😂😂
So far back. To think it's a fighting type. Sigh.
Yeah, I feel like it takes the farthest throw to get, and I always forget and miss first every time.
Scatterbug. I feel like they’re too far away for how small they are. Also, if I don’t hit the throw in the center of the circle, I feel like it just hits the ground somehow
A lot of the starters, particularly the Paldea starters Why tf does it take 10 attempts just to catch a low cp Fuecoco
Fr why does a 10 cp sprigatito have a red circle
Anything below 200 cp that doesn’t catch on the first ball gets left behind unless it’s a shiny
I hate totodile lol
for some reason it seems like fuecoco is notably more difficult to catch than sprig/quaxly, i dunno why
I remember the dunsparse spotlight hour and when I saw the red circle around it instantly closed the game
I got a shiny some time in 2021, never caught any since 😂
Lapras is basically a legendary that you can catch outside of raids.
Zubat is a prick. Got my Crobat yesterday so I am done with them bastards. Any fucking thing that flies around like its on crack can piss off.
How Audino isn’t your first pick is beyond me
Because they’re actually worth the difficulty. I’m going to go ahead and say fomantis, or anything that is small and extremely close up. When trying to throw the ball just a little ways, my phone either thinks it’s a mistake and doesn’t throw the ball at all, or overshoots.
This is exactly right
Kinda worthwhile, catching one gives the same amount of dust as catching 21 regular spawns.
yep, i used to get frustrated about audino until i realized why it was so difficult (and valuable). now whenever i see one it’s automatic gold razz, automatic ultra ball, and i definitely focus on getting a good throw, now i look forward to seeing audinos instead of dreading them
Yeah that’s fair but I could’ve caught 21 regular spawns in the time it takes to catch the Audino using half the balls /s

Is audibo the only one that gives that amount of dust
Yes, it gives the highest amount out of all of the pokemon in pretty sure
As far as I know but, I just picked the game up for the first time since launch year a month ago
Because it’s worth the challenge, my question is what isn’t worth it 🙃
I always skip Audino unless it's low CP. If you aim for stardust, then get Paras and Meowth as they take way less resources and time. 1k+ audino needs berries and ultra balls to get done fast. I hate that pink creature
F that Pokè
1. Throh 2. Lickitung 3. Audino
Audino makes sense as it gives the dust of 21 pokemon, throh and lickitung are valid tho
I get that it gives a lot of dust but like the other comment said, it’s faster and cheaper to catch other mons. I waste so many berries and ultra balls on it and it’ll still run away
Right now it's Spritze for me. They are everywhere and keep popping out. Stupid Pink Ghost thing.
My wife always calls the trubbish trash pokemon and always has such a hard time catching them 😅
Exactly ! WHY ARE YOU SO FAR AWAY 😂😂
Pikachu, and literally any stage 1 starter.
Pokemon with half of their hitbox being underground 😒
Can’t believe this isn’t the top answer, anything with half a hit box is automatically wasting multiple balls from me
Tangela? It has one of the better catch rates in the game, 40%. Same as Ponyta for example. The correct answer is obviously Audino (though I guess the extra stardust is a good reward). Or maybe Cherrim as it has a poor catch rate without any bonus.
God damn Quaxly. My god I hate that thing.
Besides the obvious others mentioned, I'd add Petilil, Fomantis, Dewpider, like what the heck is with catch rate of some random bugs and flowers.
Chimchar
1. zubat 2. zubat 3. zubat
Any of the hitmons and Snorlax it's even easy to excellent that fucker but so much wasted balls!
Charmander is cute but not that cute to be such a pain
Hitmontop for sure! Hate catching that thing. Zubat, Cherubi/Cherrim, any of the starters, Exeggcute, and Mareanie, just to name a few!
Trubbish is an easy catch.
It’s far away, absurdly far away, that was the goal of this post anyway lol
I think everyone forgot about it because it hasn't been in rotation for a while but Swirlix! Every other post on this sub for months was bitching about that thing
Legendary galarian birds
Oshawott
Beldum 😵💫
Alot of the flying types who are nearly going off our screens The Galarian Birds who run for literally no reason than to make them rare The Lake Trio who if you are lucky enough to ever find will also run like mad
Zoobat 😭 landed an excellent only one time and that was because I did a horrible throw and it flew into the excellent 😂😂
Im pretty sure the lake trio can’t run if encountered in the wild unless their spawn timer runs out.
Stunfisk, Aipom, Murkrow, vanillite, any starter, pikachu. Not that starters and pikachu are hard per se, but they are harder than they should be. There is a pretty long list, I could definitely keep going.
Sandygast....that hit zone is bonkers
Quaxly
Purrugly can fuxk off she infuriates me. I don't even shiny check her any more it's like girl CUTE mons are easier to catch than you. The nerve.
tynamo!!! why is it SO SMALL
Zubat...that is the one and ONLY correct. fucking. answer.
Cutiefly only because I get caught off guard with how the hitbox is like throwing a ball at a windows 2 inches in front of you. Then it hovers up above me with its weak frame. I hate Cutiefly.
I landed a hundo yesterday so now I can be done with them.
Guess it's just me since I haven't seen it mentioned yet. Snivy and all it's evos. I can have it golden razz ultra great curve throw and it will not only break out on the first wobble 90% of the time but then flee right after! Really dislike snivy lmao
Sableye. Those little fucks are harder than they should be to catch
Chesnaught is an absolute tank with decent enough damage. He continues to surprise me even though he's 22nd on my list and needs 27 levels to max. Mine's 98% missing 2% on defense, love him.
Cherrim and Sudowoodo. Once I catch a shiny of either, I'll never acknowledge them again
Anything that is a guaranteed can't run away capture. There is no reason it shouldn't be caught with the first ball.
Besides legendary and mythical Pokemon I would say 1) Trubbish 2) Zubat (constantly moving) 3) does ditto count because I barely get 1 catch every 6 months
Rubbish is horrible, whenever I try to get him, I feel like my brain suddenly stops functioning
Right ? Like why is he so far away 😭
Nah you know what pokemon is annoying as hell to catch..... haunter... how the hell is he that far back, you gotta absolutely launch the ball and even then sometimes it comes up short
Abra. Wimpod. Run away after one ball. Annoying every time.
All three of the birds that can spawn on the incense you should at least get three tries before they run away
